Celebrated TV series composer Mark Snow has died aged 78.
Snow, who grew up in Brooklyn, New York, is best-known for composing the iconic The X-Files theme tune, which became the soundtrack to the conspiracy theory-obsessed Nineties. With its spooky whistle that played alongside a title sequence that contained a number of creepy images, such as a stretchy face series creator Chris Carter specifically requested, Snow’s The X-Files is among the most recognisable in TV theme history.
But Snow also composed the entire series’ initial nine-season run from 1993 to 2001, returning for the revival in 2015. Six of Snow's 15 Emmy nominations were for the The X-Files episodes he scored.
Away from The X-Files, Snow composed for the likes of Smallville, Blue Bloods, The Twilight Zone, and Carter’s The X-Files follow-up Millennium. Snow returned to The X-Files for the revival in 2015. He passed away on Friday, July 4, at his home in Connecticut, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Snow also worked on a number of video games, including 1998’s Urban Assault and The X-Files Game, and Sony Bend’s 2004 PlayStation 2 exclusive Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain. His final project was the 2020 X-Men film The New Mutants.
The instrumental The X Files was a hit single in the United Kingdom and peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart in 1996. According to Variety, this amused Snow, who said: "Nothing really big happens in the song. It stays in A-minor, there’s no singing, drums or guitars, and it was a smash hit. That’s pretty wild."
Fellow TV and video game composer Bear McCreary (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, God of War) said Snow’s legacy “will forever be connected to his iconic work on The X-Files, but he also crafted memorable music for many other series.
“I chatted with him at length several times about our approaches to work and life. He was always charming and friendly.”

Lance Henriksen, who starred in Millennium, took to social media to say: “I've lost an incredible friend. Rest well Mark and thank you.”
Composer Sean Callery said on Facebook: "Mark Snow, and one of the most wonderful and talented people I’ve ever known, has passed away. 33 years ago he began mentoring me as an artist. Who knew that I was also at the beginning of a deep friendship that would only grow and evolve over three decades along with our graying hair and tighter deadlines.
"I am so grateful to him for his sage counsel and his laugh-out-loud biting wit. My career got started by an act of generosity on his part 33 years ago – period, full stop. I love you my friend. There will never ever be another like you. I send love to Glynnis and all his children and grandchildren during this time."

CD Projekt has announced Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, a new Netflix anime series set in the world of its Cyberpunk 2077 video game.
The developer has reunited with studio Trigger, which created the first Edgerunners anime, for this follow-up, with Kai Ikarashi confirmed as director. Writer Bartosz Sztybor is showrunner, story writer, and producer.
There’s no trailer yet, but we do have a logo and poster art for Edgerunners 2, below. Expect a standalone 10-episode story described as “a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge.”
Here’s the official blurb: “when the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?”
“David’s story might be over, but there’s plenty more to discover in Night City,” Sztybor said. “And to again have the legendary animation studio Trigger along for the ride makes us at CD Projekt Red so excited to introduce a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge, something unlike what we’ve done before.”
Kanno Ichigo (Promare, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners) is lead character designer, and Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare) is handling the screenplay adaptation.
Confirmation of Edgerunners 2 comes as little surprise given the success of the first season and last year's announcement from Netflix Animation that it had signed another collaboration with CD Projekt in the Cyberpunk universe with the teaser, below.

Edgerunners debuted in September 2022 to acclaim from fans and critics alike. It even helped fuel more interest in Cyberpunk 2077, and fans called for a second season.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 as the title as opposed to Edgerunners Season 2 makes sense, too, given the original didn't exactly leave itself open for a story continuation. IGN’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners review returned a 9/10. We said: “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners delivers a satisfying return to Night City that does a better job exploring why Mike Pondsmith’s famous location became so iconic in the first place.”
It’s a busy time in the world of Cyberpunk, with Cyberpunk 2 officially in pre-production. 96 of CD Projekt’s 730 developers were working on the sequel as of May. The majority of the staff (422) is working on The Witcher 4, which is in full production.
We know next to nothing about Cyberpunk 2, but Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith has teased some previously unknown details.

Australian-born actor Julian McMahon – best known for his roles in Nip/Tuck and the 2000s Fantastic Four movies – died in Clearwater, Florida, on July 2nd at age 56 from cancer.
“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” McMahon’s wife, Kelly McMahon, informed Deadline.
“Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible. We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”
A Sydney native, McMahon was born on July 27, 1968 and was the son of former Australian Prime Minister Billy McMahon. (Ironically, McMahon’s final role was as the Australian Prime Minister on the Netflix series The Residence.)
Julian McMahon started his acting career in Aussie soap operas such as Home Away before moving to Hollywood where his early TV roles included Another World, Profiler, and a three-season stint on Charmed as the half-human/half-demon Cole Turner.
McMahon earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Television Drama Series for his role as Dr. Christian Troy on Ryan Murphy’s series Nip/Tuck, which ran for six seasons on FX. He later starred in the CBS procedural FBI: Most Wanted.
IGN readers will perhaps know Julian McMahon best for his role as Doctor Doom in director Tim Story’s Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. His other comic book projects include RED and Marvel’s Runaways.
Last year, McMahon starred opposite Nicolas Cage in the thriller The Surfer, which our reviewer Lex Briscuso praised for being “an exciting yet crushing look at how brutality, pride, and confidence can threaten to poison everything we work for.”

For an extra $250, you can upgrade to the Core Ultra 9 285K with 360mm liquid cooling. The Core Ultra 7 is already an excellent gaming CPU and you won't see any uplift in performance going with the Core Ultra 9. However, if you're a professional in need of the extra cores that the Core Ultra 9 offers (for example with AI generation), then the upgrade is worth it.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has emerged as the most powerful consumer GPU on the market. Although Nvidia has prioritized software updates, AI features, and DLSS 4 technology to improve gameplay performance, the 5090 still boasts an impressive 25%-30% uplift over the RTX 4090 in terms of pure hardware-based raster performance. The 5090 also has more (32GB vs. 24GB) and faster (GDDR7 vs. GDDR6) VRAM compared to the 4090. This GPU is extremely difficult to find at retail price and is currently selling for $3,500-$4,000 on eBay.

On July 9, Samsung will host its third and final Galaxy Unpacked Event of 2025. Samsung hasn't revealed much beforehand other than its tagline "Ultra Unfolds," however the company is widely expected to release new foldable variants in its Galaxy smartphone lineup. It's about 5%-10% faster than the previous generation RTX 4080 Super, which is discontinued and no longer available. In games that support the new DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation exclusive to Blackwell cards, the gap widens. This is an outstanding card for playing even the latest games at 4K resolution with high settings and ray tracing enabled.

What it compromises on is customization, with "only" two upholstery options, two sizes, and five colors, a non-adjustable lumbar system, simpler arm rests, and no included head rest. If none of these tradeoffs bother you, then you'll be saving quite a bit of money.
The prior model Titan 2020 gaming chair is still available for $474, although there aren't too many options available. The Titan 2020 is still an excellent chair and not much different than the current Evo model. In fact, outside of an upholstery change (the PU leather has been updated with Neo Hybrid Leatherette), the changes are mostly cosmetic. You are limited to fewer design options, so if you want to build out something that's truly unique, you might want to splurge a bit extra for the current generation Titan Evo model.
Although the Titan Evo Nanogen Edition isn't on sale, it deserves mention simply because this is our top pick for the best gaming chair. In our Titan Evo Nanogen Edition review, Chris Coke wrote that "the Secretlab Titan Evo Nanogen Edition deserves every bit of the overwhelming praise I’ve given. Granted, at $799 it’s significantly more expensive than the original and not far off from an entry-level Herman-Miller. Secretlab also announced a new recliner add-on to anyone who already owns the Titan Evo chair. It's so new that not only will this recliner ship out sometime next year, it's not even available for preorder yet. We have received a unit for testing, however, and it has turned out to be a very practical addition.
In our recliner add-on review, Chris Coke wrote that "while both comfort and value are subjective things, the recliner is able to take the Titan Evo and transform it from one of the best racing style gaming chairs to standing head and shoulders above the competition at its price point. The Area-51 laptop is also equipped with a very powerful CPU as well. The Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX boasts a max turbo frequency of 5.4GHz with a whopping 24 cores and 40MB total L2 cache. According to Passmark, this is the second most powerful Intel mobile CPU available right now and goes head to head with AMD's Ryzen 9 7945HX3D.
As expensive as these laptops are, you don't want to spend even more on trivial upgrades. The RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU boasts performance on par with the RTX 4080 but with the added benefit of faster GDDR7 RAM and DLSS 4.0. The RTX 5080 mobile GPU represents a healthy improvement over the RTX 5070 Ti for a nominal price bump; it's about 15%-20% more powerful than the RTX 5070 Ti and the RTX 4080 that it replaces. It also happens to be about 5% more powerful than the RTX 4090 and has the same amount of memory (16GB). Unfortunately, the RTX 5090 only appears to be just 5% more powerful than the RTX 5080, and its only real benefit is the 24GB of memory, which isn't that useful for gaming (but is an attraction option for professionals who work with AI applications).

The E7 Pro is the creme de la creme of Flexispot's standing desks. It's recent released so it isn't nearly as heavily discounted as the other models. Currently it costs $399.99 (normally $599.99) for the base only and desktop surfaces start at $80. The E7 Pro features the best build quality of the three listed here, and it certainly shows with a weight capacity of a whopping 440lbs. Flexispot claims the motor for the E7 Pro is superior to the standard dual motor setup you'll find in the E5 and E7 and other brands, offering smoother and faster movement. You also get more cable management options included than even the E7. The Flexispot E7 Pro comes with an extended 15-year warranty on all metal, mechanical, and electrical parts and components, including the motor.
The Flexispot E5 desk is, in my opinion, the best value electric standing desk while still offering all the premium features you'd want. Right now it costs $199.99 (normally $379.99) for the base only and desktop surfaces start at $80. The Flexispot E5 is the least expensive model featuring dual motors, which are preferred over a single motor because they can support more weight (in this case 287lbs max) and they last longer because the stress is evenly distributed. The desktop is supported by a double crossbeam structure so that your surface is evenly supported to prevent any sagging. Most standing desks in this price range only have legs with a two-stage column, but this one features a three-stage column, which supports a greater vertical range (in this case 23.6" to 49.2"). An anti-collision feature, a must-have in all desks, will stop the desk when it detects obstruction of the motor. Finally, the keypad controls offer three memory presets and a timer to remind you when to swap sit/stand positions. The E5 comes with a 10-year warranty.
The E7 currently costs $299.99 (normally $499.99) for the base only and desktop surfaces start at $80. For an extra $140, the Flexispot E7 offers better build quality, a higher weight threshold, more included accessories, and a longer warranty. The lifting capacity has been upgraded from 287lbs to 355lbs. Aesthetically, the legs look more professional, with laser-welded seams, powder-coated finish, and no visible holes. The advanced keyboard has been upgraded with an LCD display, more memory presets, a built-in USB charger, and a child-lock function that's a necessity for those of us with inquisitive toddlers. The E7 also comes with a built-in cable tray under the desk to stow away all of your messy wiring. The Flexispot E7 comes with a 15 year warranty like the E7 Pro.
An L-shaped desk is the best way to take advantage of room corners that are otherwise hard to utilize efficiently. Fortunately, Flexispot makes an L-shaped variant of its E7 desk, with the frame starting at $449.99. You'll only need to add $80 to get a 63"x47"x24" chipboard desktop surface included. The desk boasts a triple motor system (one for each leg) with a maximum weight capacity is 330 pounds and a height range of 25" to 50.7". The Flexispot C7 offers a ton of features that are typically reserved for much more expensive chairs. This includes an automatically adjusting lumbar system, adjustable seat depth, adjustable armrests, adjustable seat tilt, adjustable headrest, 128 degrees of recline, and more. There's also a C7 Max Ergonomic Chair available starting at $450 which features a thicker seat cushion, greater recline adjustability, and 5D armrests, and the option to add a built-in footrest.
You've probably heard of Thuma, a pricey manufacturer of bed frames that use traditional Japanese joinery instead of screws. Flexispot has a very similar product that employs the same joinery techniques, is made of the same solid rubberwood material, and nearly the same weight capacity (1,200lbs vs 1,500 lbs), but costs only a third of the price. The Flexispot Kana Bed Frame starts at $349.99 for the full size with queen and king sizes also available. You can opt to add in a solid rubberwood headboard for an additional $270 or a washable linen pillowboard for $280.

There are USB ports for charging your phone, tablet, or gaming handheld, and even a handy storage cubby.
I have three standing desks. One of the standing desks included a desktop, however for the other two desks I sourced on my own. For one of them I purchased a massive 74"x26" maple veneered countertop from Ikea for $199. For the other one I purchased a 48"x25" solid wood countertop from Home Depot and finished it myself. There are more options available where you could save money, opt for a better quality material, or both. Just remember to abide by the weight limitations.
I can only speak from personal experience. I own a Jarvis Fully, a Vari Ergo, and a Flexispot E5. All three are excellent desks that have caused me no problems whatsoever in the 3+ years of owning them, and that's the point. The Flexispot E5 is considerably less expensive than the other two options, and yet I don't really see where much of that cost is going. For a similar price of a barebones $600 Jarvis standing desk (which is now owned by MillerKnoll), you could get the top end Flexispot E7 Pro and still come out with a few hundred dollars left over.

The Omen Max 16 RTX 5090 Gaming Laptop drops to just $2,399.99 with free shipping when you apply 20% off coupon code "LEVELUP20". That is easily best price for an RTX 5090 gaming laptop anywhere by well over $1,000. In fact, I would place this deal squarely in the too good to be true territory and I'd be surprised if your order even gets shipped out. That said, fortune favors the bold, and worst case scenario your order will just be cancelled. The RTX 5090 is currently the most powerful mobile GPU available with tons of VRAM and DLSS 4 support.

This HP Omen Max 16 laptop is configured with a 16" 1920x1200 display, Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, GeForce RTX 5090 graphics, 21GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. I would strongly recommend upgrading to the 16" 2560x1600 OLED display for an additional $190 (minus 20% off with code). The GPU can easily handle the increased resolution and the OLED panel makes for a much better looking display that complements the other premium hardware.
The Core Ultra 9 275HX boasts a max turbo frequency of 5.4GHz with 24 cores and 40MB total L2 cache. According to Passmark, this is one of the fastest laptop processor on the market, going toe to toe with the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 is likewise the most powerful mobile graphics card on the market. In terms of raw performance, it's actually only about a 10% improvement over the RTX 5080. However, it does have considerably more VRAM (24GB vs 16GB), which is useful for creative professionals and anyone who uses generative AI.
If the deal above is still way past your budget, then there's another 4th of July deal that just popped up on another HP Omen Max 16" laptop. It features an Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX CPU, RTX 5070 Ti GPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. The RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU is a substantial upgrade over the 4070 Ti and the 5070. In fact, it offers gaming performance on par with the RTX 4080. You'll be able to comfortably play any game at the stock display's 1920x1200 resolution. This is another case where I'd recommend upgrading to the OLED display, since this GPU can handle it.
The Omen Max is essentially a "premium" Omen 16 with better materials - like an aluminum-magnesium alloy chassis and lid - and a beefier cooling system to accommodate current generation hardware.

We're half way through the round up, so here's a few other picks are worth grabbing before they trend up. M Mewtwo EX (Full Art) 160/162 – BREAKthrough is another to watch at $61.70 for a full-art legendary Mega in a mainline expansion.
Primal Kyogre EX (Alpha Full Art) 149/160 – Primal Clash is a key visual pairing to the Groudon Omega from earlier and still holds around $120.12, which feels low considering its set position and full-art finish.
More affordable plays include M Gyarados EX (Full Art) 115/122 – BREAKpoint and M Tyranitar EX (Full Art) – Ancient Origins, both hovering below $90.
These have strong set representation and solid collector appeal. The same goes for M Rayquaza EX 61/108 – Roaring Skies at $72.85, which offers a great backup to its full-art counterpart at a lower entry cost.

The highest-value Mega card on the market right now. A Secret Rare from Flashfire, this card features the X form of Mega Charizard in gold-bordered art. It’s currently priced at $493.69, making it an epic collector’s item and one of the most consistently appreciating Mega cards in the TCG.
