Arkham Asylum Series Is Dead for Now as Max Opts Not to Move Forward With Current Version

5 juillet 2024 à 23:12

The Arkham Asylum TV series, which was set to expand on DC’s Batman universe, is reportedly no longer happening at Max.

Variety says the show will no longer be moving forward at the streamer. Antonio Campos had signed on as showrunner back in October 2022, but his version of the story will now no longer continue. The site’s sources add that a story set within Gotham’s twisted asylum could still come to fruition in the future.

The Arkham Asylum series was announced in 2020 and originally had nothing to do with the iconic Batman location. Instead, the show was sold as a story centered on the Gotham City Police Department that was set before the events of The Batman. One year (and one showrunner) later and the show was said to feature James Gordon, but director Matt Reeves then stated in 2022 that the GCPD show would focus on Arkham Asylum.

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn eventually clarified that the Arkham Asylum series was separate from the world of The Batman and would take place within the company’s new universe, the DCU. It’s a rocky road that has led to a dead end at least for now.

While Arkham Asylum is getting locked away, there are plenty of other Batman and DC stories on the way. The Penguin will bring Colin Ferrell’s crime boss to small screens sometime this September, and The Batman – Part II is still slated to arrive October 2, 2026. There’s also the DCU-set Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which will see The Flash’s Andy Muschietti directing a new take on the character.

RWBY Finds a New Home in Wake of Rooster Teeth's Closure

5 juillet 2024 à 22:45

RWBY has a new home following the closure of Rooster Teeth earlier this year.

Showrunner Kerry Shawcross and Yang Xiao Long voice actress Barara Dunkelman gave fans the news they’ve been waiting to hear since the company was shuttered in March in a post on X/Twitter. The duo says that a new deal with Viz Media will allow the anime-inspired series to live on under the company’s umbrella, which includes anime hits like Bleach, Death Note, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and more.

The former Rooster Teeth crew say they’re excited to work with Viz on the future of its beloved series.

“In talking with Viz, they’re also very excited about this,” Shawcross said. “They obviously care about where the show is now, but they also care about where it came from. And they want to make sure that we can continue this story.”

Greetings, FNDM! 👋 @bdunkelman and @kerryshawcross just shared some VIZciting news at the VIZ panel at AnimeExpo #RWBYxVIZ pic.twitter.com/TrmAQiINTX

— RWBY (@OfficialRWBY) July 5, 2024

Dunkelman adds that the RWBY team is currently in talks with Viz about how the show will transition into the future, adding that they are “very hopeful for what’s to come.” In its own post, Viz notes that its relationship with the RWBY brand doesn’t start with the new deal. It previously handled a series of manga based on the show and also released The World of RWBY compendium book.

“We are grateful to the Rooster Teeth team for entrusting us with RWBY,” Viz said, “and we are excited to carry forward the legacy of the series.”

Viz will oversee production, distribution, licensing, consumer products, and more for the RWBY franchise. In the FAQ section of its post, the company outlines how the series will live on under its new roof. For starters, social media pages on X and Facebook will remain active while it explores the possibility of new chapters in its story. Shawcross will be involved in what comes next for RWBY, and as for RWBY Volumes 1-9, Viz says to “stay tuned for updates” on where it will be available to watch.

The breaks were pumped on Volume 10 when Rooster Teeth parent company Warner Bros. Discovery announced that it would shut down the 21-year-old business in March. In addition to RWBY, Rooster Teeth was responsible for a range of fan-favorite shows, including Red vs. Blue and gen:LOCK.

Rooster Teeth’s demise brought an end to a pioneering entity in the gaming content creation space, but RWBY, at least, will live on. For more, you can check out the trailer for the Red vs. Blue movie, which released in May.

EA Sports FC 25 Will Reportedly Release This September, According to Leak

5 juillet 2024 à 19:44

EA is looking to usher in a new era of soccer gaming with an EA Sports FC 25 release date of September 27, 2024, according to a recent leak.

Information on the FC 25 launch plans comes from Dealabs and reliable leaker Billbil-kun. A report from the site reveals the apparent release date alongside a handful of other details about its price and purchase options. Sports gaming fans are said to have two purchase options: Standard and Ultimate. It appears the former comes with the base experience for $69.99, while the latter offers seven days of early access starting on September 20 for $99.99. EA Play subscribers can also take advantage of early access thanks to a 10-hour trial.

FC 25 hasn’t been officially revealed yet, but Dealabs expects to see it announced within the next 10 days. No platforms have been promised yet either, though X/Twitter account PlayStation Game Size says it will at least come to PlayStation 4, which would mean that an Xbox One version is likely if that information is accurate. For reference, last year’s FC 24 launched for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S on September 22, 2023.

EA’s soccer outings were previously known as FIFA but saw a shift following the expiration of a nearly 30-year partnership with the FIFA brand. The fallout has resulted in the name change to EA Sports FC and a new logo as the series has moved to kick off a new beginning. It got its start with FC 24 last year.

EA has yet to confirm a release date, pricing information, or any details about FC 25. While we wait for a potential announcement, you can read our 7/10 review of last year’s installment. At the time, we said, “It might have a new name, but EA Sports FC 24 is just about the same, frustrating but beautiful game that FIFA's been for many years.”

Watch Dogs Movie Officially Begins Filming More Than a Decade After Being Announced

3 juillet 2024 à 21:04

Ubisoft is hacking its way into film once again, as its Watch Dogs movie has started shooting.

The gaming publisher shared the news with a behind-the-scenes picture on X/Twitter. It’s a mysterious image that only reveals a clapperboard and an individual who is, appropriately, sitting at a computer. It’s set to be directed by The Deep Dark and Meander’s Mathieu Turi. Story details are being kept secret for now.

Though no plot information about Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs movie has been revealed, we’re not completely in the dark on how the film will come together. In June, Deadline reported that the project had picked up two of 2023’s biggest breakout stars, Tom Blyth and Sophie Wilde. The former is best known for his portrayal in Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, though he’s also appeared in shows like Billy the Kid and The Gilded Age. Wilde terrified audiences with last year’s Talk to Me but has showed up in projects like Boy Swallows Universe and Everything Now, too.

Details on Blyth and Wilde’s roles in the Watch Dogs movie are unclear. The script’s original draft was handled by Christie LeBlanc, with new revisions overseen by Victoria Bata. New Regency CEO Yariv Milchan and company president of motion pictures and television Natalie Lehmann are attached as producers alongside Ubisoft head of content Margaret Boykin.

Watch Dogs exploded onto into gaming with the original Watch Dogs in 2014. The first installment in Ubisoft’s tech-centered told the story of Aiden Pearce, a hacker with the ability to manipulate technology in the environment around him. A sequel located in San Francisco was released in 2016, but the franchise most recently delivered a London-set entry with 2020’s Watch Dogs: Legion.

Ubisoft has been trying its best to get a Watch Dogs movie off the ground for more than a decade. While the project has finally found its footing, we’re still waiting to hear a release date. In the meantime, you can read about the latest news on the Assassin’s Creed series and the publisher’s The Division movie.
