Stellar Blade's Steam Rollout Mysteriously Blocked in Over 100 Countries

16 mai 2025 à 13:45

Stellar Blade's Steam rollout has been mysteriously blocked in countries like Egypt, Vietnam, Estonia, and Cuba.

While there's been no formal statement on why sales have been blocked in over 100 countries around the world, it's thought the list broadly matches that of places where PlayStation Network is not available.

But here's the confusing thing: Stellar Blade doesn't require players to sign up to PSN to play, which has left players wondering why on earth sales have been restricted.

It's possible the block comes not because Stellar Blade requires a PSN connection, but because it offers an optional one. Though not confirmed by either developer ShiftUp or Sony itself just yet, some are speculating that it may be because players are invited to sign up via their PSN account to secure an optional skin for Eve.

The game isn't available in ~130 countries on Steam and Epic Games Store. pic.twitter.com/D79a3HrUut

— Mikhail Shevkun 🐶 (@MWorldII) May 15, 2025

More interestingly still, it seems ShiftUp itself has been surprised by the restrictions. While the team has responded to several unhappy tweets on X/Twitter, asking the complainants where they live, they've yet to provide any further information about why the game is blocked in certain countries.

Despite offering millions of fans the chance to enjoy experiences that were otherwise locked behind console exclusivity, Sony has fumbled its rollout on PC, with many players blasting the company for its mandatory PSN connection requirement. It meant that players needed to have an account and link it in order to enjoy their chosen game at all, even if the title was a single-player game like God of War or The Last of Us. The requirement led to backlash from PC players in territories where PSN is unavailable.

The drama first hit the Helldivers 2 community in May last year, when PlayStation announced that Steam users would need to connect a PlayStation Network account to play. The company, however, quickly took back that decision as it reversed course just a few days later.

This has since been further compounded, however, by the fact PSN is not available in some countries, which resulted in Helldivers 2 being delisted in around 177 countries at the time. Most recently, in January 2025, Sony stated it would no longer require players to link a PlayStation Network account to enjoy some of its PC games, and instead offered bonuses for those who do.

The PC version of Stellar Blade launches via Steam on June 11 along with a raft of PC-specific features, including AI upscaling via Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3, an unlocked framerate, Japanese and Chinese voiceover, ultrawide display support, higher resolution environment textures, and DualSense support for haptic feedback and trigger effects.

IGN's Stellar Blade review returned a 7/10. We said: "Stellar Blade is great in all of the most important ways for an action game, but dull characters, a lackluster story, and several frustrating elements of its RPG mechanics prevent it from soaring along with the best of the genre."

Doom: The Dark Ages Owes a Lot to Eternal’s Marauder

16 mai 2025 à 13:00

When director Hugo Martin explained that the mantra for Doom: The Dark Ages was “stand and fight” during Xbox’s Developer Direct earlier this year, I was instantly enticed. It's an idea in direct opposition to id Software’s previous game, Doom Eternal, a shooter built on hyper-kinetic, perpetually mobile firefights. There is, however, a single enemy in Eternal that does demand you “stand and fight” – the Marauder. Perhaps the most controversial enemy ever featured in a Doom game, it’s hated by many… and loved by me. And the moment I realised that the trick to Doom: The Dark Ages’ combat was reacting to bright green lights – the very same thing that’s key to killing a Marauder – I knew I was all-in.

Don’t worry, The Dark Ages doesn’t force you into a cage fight with an enemy that’s as fast and fiddly as Eternal's Marauder. Sure, there is the Agaddon Hunter, who’s protected by a bulletproof shield and lashes out with a deadly combo attack, but the legacy of Eternal’s infamous battles lives on not through a single enemy, but every enemy. Rethought, recalibrated, and reforged, the ideas behind the Marauder have been applied to The Dark Ages’ core combat design. The result? Every encounter has the smarts of a Marauder face-off with none of the frustrations.

The Marauder is a bit of an unusual beast. Fights in Doom Eternal typically have you running loops around a combat arena, cutting down fodder enemies and bouncing between larger foes. Eternal has often been called a management game, and that doesn’t just apply to your resources; through the use of speed, space, and shotguns you have to manage the horde. That all goes out the window when the Marauder turns up. This tough-as-nails, axe-swinging powerhouse demands your complete focus, hence why it’s so often fought in one-on-one situations. On the odd occasion one turns up in larger battles, the best tactic is to avoid its blows, clear the deck of mobs, and – finally – stand and fight.

That doesn’t mean literally standing still, of course – this is Doom Eternal, after all. Rather, it’s about asserting dominance over the space through careful positioning. Get in too close and the Marauder will catch you with a deadly shotgun blast that’s near-impossible to dodge. Fall too far back and he’ll bombard you with projectiles that are much easier to dodge, but you’ll be out of range of his axe swing. The thing is, you want him to try and hit you with that axe, because the only time in the entire fight that the Marauder is vulnerable to damage is during the attack’s wind-up animation. His energy shield soaks up every bullet you fire, so you need to position yourself in the sweet spot where he’ll drop his guard and go in for the kill. When his eyes flash bright green, that’s your cue: you’ve got a split-second window to blast his brains out.

A flash of bright green is also what you’re looking for in Doom: The Dark Ages. In a nod to the series’ first outing, demons fire out volleys of bullet hell-like projectiles. Within those volleys are special green missiles that can be parried with the Doom Slayer’s new shield, deflecting the ordnance back to its source. In the opening hours of the game this is largely a defensive move. Later on, though, once you unlock the shield’s rune system, the parry becomes an invaluable offensive tool, stunning demons with bolts of lightning or triggering your shoulder-mounted, auto-targeting cannon.

Your travels across The Dark Ages’ battlefields become a collage of pocketed one-vs-one fights with a variety of powerful demons.

Unlike in a Marauder fight, survival is not entirely dependent on reacting to these green lights. Good use of your more straightforward tools can carry you to victory. But the shield runes make parrying one of the strongest components of your arsenal – one worth activating as many times as possible. And if you weave it into your combat approach, you’ll soon find that the foundations of The Dark Ages’ parry share common ground with Eternal’s Marauder fights. You’ll need to find the right distance, since demons won’t fire projectiles at close range, and when the green orbs appear, you’ll need to maneuver into the right position to catch them. And then, like catching the Maruader mid-swing, you need quick reactions to score the parry itself. All this demands focus, so your travels across The Dark Ages’ battlefields become a collage of pocketed one-vs-one fights with a variety of powerful demons. You stand and you fight. Just as you did against the Marauder.

Perhaps the most cited argument against the Marauder was how it interrupted Doom Eternal’s flow. You simply cannot fight it using the techniques you’ve conquered every other challenge with. This switch-up is actually the reason why I love the Maruader so much: while the rest of the game asks you to do ballet, it insists you break dance. Doom Eternal was a game built on breaking the rules of first-person shooters, demanding that you think about resources, weapons, and engagements in new ways. The Marauder breaks the rulebreaker’s rules and so poses the ultimate challenge. But as much as I relish that challenge, I understand why many hate it.

Doom: The Dark Ages overcomes that problem by ensuring different “dances” are part of the grand disco hall of battle. Every major enemy type has its own unique green projectile or melee strike, and so your approach changes with each foe you encounter. The Mancubus, for instance, fires staggered bursts of wide energy “fences” that feature green “pillars” at either end, and so you must weave left and right to score the parry on each one. The Vagary launches an abacus-like volley of deadly spheres, forcing you to sprint towards the rows you can deflect as if they were deadly tennis balls arriving on your side of the court. The skeletal Revenant, meanwhile, replicates the Marauder even closer; it’s invulnerable to damage until you can deflect one of the green skulls it fires in alternating patterns from its shoulder launchers.

Because every single demon demands a different kind of footwork, it’s never jarring when a new foe is introduced with a left-of-field approach. Sure, the Agaddon Hunter and Komodo both pose a bit of a difficulty spike thanks to their intense melee combo attacks, but you’re already used to constantly adapting the way you move and react by the time they arrive on the scene. That wasn’t the case for the Marauder, because Eternal’s ruleset was based on using the right gun for the right demon, not the position and reaction-based tactics needed to defeat this unique threat.

The Marauder’s problem was never its design. It was that it broke the rules and players weren’t prepared for it. Doom: The Dark Ages trains you for something similar by making its own reaction-based twitch mechanic a core component of the entire experience rather than a mid-game curveball. Such a shift does mean that the challenge has largely disappeared – the shield’s parry window is much more generous than the split-second required to react to the Marauder’s eye flash, even at higher difficulties. But the underlying concept of the Marauder – locking step with an enemy, waiting for the perfect moment, and striking when the light shines green – is all here in every single battle. Doom: The Dark Ages may offer a very different take on those ideas, but they’re still completely recognisable. You stand and you fight.

Retro Fighting Game Killer Instinct Gold the Latest Addition to the Nintendo Switch Online Library

16 mai 2025 à 12:47

Killer Instinct Gold is the latest Nintendo 64 game to be added to the Nintendo Switch Online library.

A Nintendo 64 port of the arcade fighter Killer Instinct 2, Gold joins the original Killer Instinct in the expansive library of retro titles now available to the Online Expansion Pack subscribers.

Released almost 30 years ago now in 1996, Killer Instinct Gold was developed by British studio Rare, which was a frequent second-party developer for Nintendo at the time, making games like Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye 007, and Perfect Dark for early Nintendo systems. You can pick from a roster of 10 killer fighters, and test your instincts across multiple game modes, "with hundreds of thousands of moves and killer Combos at your fingertips."

Rare and by extension the Killer Instinct franchise is of course now owned by Microsoft, which makes Killer Instinct Gold yet another Xbox Game Studios title to release on the Switch. Following the release of Xbox One launch title Killer Instinct back in 2013, there has been no indication that Microsoft plans to revive the series with yet another sequel.

Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription-based online gaming service for the Nintendo Switch gaming platform. Memberships include online functionality, allowing you to compete or cooperate with friends, as well as a collection of classic Nintendo games spanning four decades, including titles from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and (with the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Switch 2) the new GameCube libraries. A free seven-day trial is also available.

Nintendo Switch 2 preorders went live at the end of April with the price of the console still fixed at $449.99 — and they went about as well as you'd expect. But although Nintendo has issued a warning to U.S. customers who applied for a Switch 2 pre-order from the My Nintendo Store, saying release date delivery is not guaranteed due to very high demand, Nintendo of America boss Doug Bowser told IGN he is confident the company will have enough units to meet consumer demand "through the holidays."

Take-Two Boss Strauss Zelnick Says He's 'Thrilled' With Civilization 7 So Far Even Through More People Are Playing Civ 6 and Even Civ 5 on Steam

16 mai 2025 à 12:32

Civilization 7 has had a rough launch on Steam — that much is clear. The strategy sequel has struggled for players on Valve’s platform ever since its launch in February. Reaction is ‘mixed,’ according to Steam user reviews. And despite a number of patches issued by developer Firaxis to reverse the sentiment, Civilization 7 finds itself in the unenviable situation of having fewer players on Steam than Civilization 6 and even the 15-year-old Civilization 5.

Civ 7’s Steam performance does not paint the entire picture, of course. The game also launched on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch (a Nintendo Switch 2 version that makes use of the new Joy-Con mouse controls will soon release). But Civilization’s bread and butter is PC, and there Civ 7 is clearly struggling.

You’d think, then, that Firaxis parent company Take-Two wouldn’t be best pleased. But speaking to IGN in an interview ahead of the company’s latest financial results, CEO Strauss Zelnick told me he was “thrilled” with Civ 7 so far.

“I'm thrilled with Civ 7 so far,” Zelnick began. “However, there were some issues initially, and our team at Firaxis has done a great job addressing those issues. There's more work to be done. I'm optimistic that work will be done and will suit consumers, and ultimately that we have a very successful title on our hands.”

Zelnick then pointed to the Civilization franchise’s tendency to have a long sales cycle, at least compared to many other games, and his belief that Civ 7 will follow suit.

“The history of all the Civilization releases is that initially some of the changes that we make cause consternation among our consumers because they love the Civilization franchise so much,” he said.

“And then people realize, oh, this really is an improvement and over a long sales cycle, we do really well. I think that's what'll happen here too.

“But undoubtedly, we had some issues in the beginning, which we've addressed partially and continue to address.”

When Civ 7 launched, players highlighted issues with the user interface, a lack of map variety, and expressed a feeling that the game launched without a number of features they’d come to expect from the franchise.

Zelnick’s mention of hardcore Civ players being a little nervous about Civ 7 at launch is no-doubt a reference to some of the dramatic changes Firaxis made to the game.

A full campaign in Civilization 7 is one that goes through all three Ages: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. Once the Age is completed, all players (and any AI opponents) experience an Age Transition simultaneously. During an Age Transition, three things happen: you select a new civilization from the new Age to represent your empire, you choose which Legacies you want to retain in the new Age, and the game world evolves. The Civilization games have never had such a system. Clearly, Zelnick believes Civ fans will come to love it over time.

Take-Two has yet to announce a sales figure for Civilization 7, but in its financial report said it was "pursuing opportunities to expand the audience," including the recent launch of Civilization 7 VR for Meta Quest 3 and 3S, as well as the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 port.

Metal Gear Creator Hideo Kojima Says He’s Left His Staff a USB Stick of Ideas for After He Dies, ‘Kind of Like a Will’

16 mai 2025 à 11:54

Hot on the heels of revealing a number of discarded video game ideas and even an idea for a ‘Forgetting Game’ where the main character gradually forgets important information and abilities if you take too long a break from playing, Kojima has revealed he has left his staff a SUB stick of game ideas for after he dies.

As reported by VGC, Kojima issued the morbid revelation to Edge magazine, and discussed his change of thinking that occurred during the pandemic.

“Turning 60 was less of a turning point in my life than my experiences during the pandemic,” he said. “I fell seriously ill at that time, and also had an eye operation. Until then, I didn’t think I was old, you know? I just didn’t feel my age, and I assumed I would be able to create for as long as I live.

“But then I became sick, and I couldn’t create anything. And I saw lots of people around me passing away at that time. I was confronted with death. Of course, I recovered, but now I was thinking, ‘Wait, how many years do I have left to make a game or a film?’ Perhaps I have 10 years?”

This reevaluation not only caused Kojima to take on a number of new projects, but to create the USB stick “kind of like a will,” which he hopes will help secure the future of Kojima Productions following his death.

“I gave a USB stick with all my ideas on it to my personal assistant, kind of like a will,” he said. “Perhaps they could continue to make things after I’m gone at Kojima Productions… This is a fear for me: what happens to Kojima Productions after I’m gone? I don’t want them to just manage our existing IP.”

This week, IGN reported on Kojima’s thoughts on how time passing in real life can be used in video games. Not only did Kojima comment on time-related mechanics he has implemented in past games, but he also revealed concepts that he hasn’t used yet, including an idea he scrapped from the upcoming Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.

“I’ve thought about having characters’ hair grow in games,” Kojima said in the most recent broadcast of his Japanese radio podcast KOJI10. “Originally in Death Stranding 2, I was going to have Sam’s beard gradually grow out over time, and the player would have to shave it. If they didn’t, Sam would end up looking unkempt,” he explained. “However, as Norman Reedus is a big star, I didn’t want to make him look uncool!” Despite this, the director said it was still something he might add to another game one day.

Kojima also revealed three game concepts that have the passing of time in real life as a major mechanic. The first is a kind of game of life: “It starts out with the player being born, you’re a child and then gradually over time you become an adult. In the game, you fight various enemies. Like with the previous example (MGS3’s The End), if you keep playing the game, you will become a 70 or 80-year-old man. However, at this age you will be weaker, your eyesight will worsen. When you are a teenager you’ll be able to run faster but by the time you reach 60 you’ll slow down a bit,” Kojima explained, revealing that although your character will be in better physical condition when they are younger, they will have more knowledge and experience when they are older. This aging would affect your strategy as to how you deal with enemies. “But no-one would buy it!” Kojima added, however the other people on the podcast expressed enthusiasm about playing such a “Kojima-like game.”

Another idea he mentioned is a game where you are creating something that takes time to mature, such as wine or cheese. This would require the player to continue gradually playing over a long period of time, and sounds like it would work as a background/idle game.

And finally, Kojima proposed a “forgetting game” that the player would have to “play through quickly.” In this concept, the main character gradually forgets important information and abilities if you take too long a break from the game. For example, if you don’t play every day, the main character will gradually forget things such as “how to fire their gun or what their job is.” This forgetfulness builds up until finally the player is unable to move. “Players would have to take a week off work or school to play it,” Kojima laughed.

It's a hugely busy time for Kojima and his studio, Kojima Productions (now we know why!). As well as Death Stranding 2, Kojima is working on a live-action Death Stranding film with A24, the studio behind Academy Award winning films such as Everything Everywhere All At Once. He's also working on OD for Xbox Game Studios, and video game and movie hybrid Physint for Sony.

There are no release dates for OD or Physint. Indeed, in January, Kojima revealed the ongoing video game actors strike had affected production on both titles, so it may be some time before we hear or see more.

Marathon Developer Bungie Launches 'Thorough Review' After Once Again Being Found to Have Used Work From an Uncredited Artist

16 mai 2025 à 11:31

Destiny 2 developer Bungie is once again battling accusations of plagiarism after yet another artist accused the studio of "lifting" aspects of their artwork, this time for its upcoming sci-fi shooter, Marathon.

After numerous artists and a writer came forward claiming Bungie used their work without authorization or credit, yet another artist is claiming their work was used in the environments of Marathon. In screenshots taken from Marathon's alpha playtest accompanying the tweet, artist Antireal alleged they could see distinct icons and graphics they designed, some of which were originally shared on social media years ago in 2017.

the Marathon alpha released recently and its environments are covered with assets lifted from poster designs i made in 2017.@Bungie @josephacross pic.twitter.com/0Csbo48Jgb

— N² (@4nt1r34l) May 15, 2025

"Bungie is, of course, not obligated to hire me when making a game that draws overwhelmingly from the same design language I have refined for the last decade, but clearly my work was good enough to pillage for ideas and plaster all over their game without pay or attribution," the artist wrote in a statement posted to X/Twitter.

"I don't have the resources nor the energy to spare to pursue this legally but I have lost count of the number of times a major company has deemed it easier to pay a designer to imitate or steal my work than to write me an email. In 10 years, I have never made a consistent income from this work and I am tired of designers from huge companies moodboarding and parasitising my designs while I struggle to make a living."

Bungie responded within hours. Though it did not publicly apologize, it said it had now launched an investigation, attributing the "issue" to a former Bungie artist, and reached out to the artist concerned.

"We immediately investigated a concern regarding unauthorized use of artist decals in Marathon and confirmed that a former Bungie artist included these in a texture sheet that was ultimately used in-game," the team said in a statement. "This issue was unknown by our existing art team, and we are still reviewing how this oversight occurred.

"We take matters like this very seriously. We have reached out to [the artist] to discuss this issue and are committed to do right by the artist. As a matter of policy, we do not use the work of artists without their permission.

"To prevent similar issues in the future, we are conducting a thorough review of our in-game assets, specifically those done by the former Bungie artist, and implementing stricter checks to document all artist contributions. We value the creativity and dedication of all artists who contribute to our games, and we are committed to doing right by them. Thank you for bringing this to our attention."

This is not the first time Bungie has been accused of lifting ideas from elsewhere. In October, the studio was slapped with a lawsuit after a writer claimed the studio stole plot elements from his story and used them for content in Destiny 2's 2017 storyline, The Red War. Bungie recently tried to get the lawsuit dismissed but a judge denied the request as Bungie scrambled to provide evidence having since "vaulted" the content so it is no longer publicly playable.

Just weeks before that lawsuit was filed, Bungie launched a different investigation to ascertain how a NERF gun based on Destiny 2's iconic Ace of Spades was lifted almost wholesale from fanart designed back in 2015, including every brush stroke, scratch, and smudge on the weapon.

Epic Says Apple Has Blocked Fortnite's Return to the U.S. App Store — and Now Tim Sweeney Is Tweeting Tim Cook to Complain

16 mai 2025 à 11:00

Epic’s long-running battle with Apple over the future of Fortnite on iOS devices has taken another turn, with Epic accusing Apple of blocking its Fortnite submission so it can’t release the game to the U.S. App Store.

Earlier this month, Epic boss Tim Sweeney said Fortnite would return to the U.S. iOS App Store and iPhones in a matter of days after a significant court ruling.

On April 30, a U.S. Federal District Court in California found that Apple wilfully violated a court order in the Epic Games v. Apple case that required Apple to enable developers to offer their customers alternative ways to make purchases outside apps.

In January, IGN reported on how Sweeney had spent billions of dollars fighting Apple and Google over the way the companies run their app stores. Sweeney told IGN at the time that he considered it a long-term investment in Epic and Fortnite’s future, insisting Epic could afford to keep up the fight for decades to come.

Sweeney’s ongoing battle to get Fortnite back on iPhones and Android phones while avoiding paying store fees is well-documented. The gist is this: Epic doesn’t want to pay the now standard 30% store fees on revenue made on mobile games. Instead, it wants to run the likes of Fortnite through its own mobile store, the Epic Games Store, without Apple and Google getting in the way and gobbling up its profit. Back in 2020, this dispute ended up with Fortnite blocked from release on iOS.

After Sweeney’s tweet it was expected that Fortnite would return to iOS, but so far… nothing. And now, Epic has issued a statement to IGN providing an update:

“Apple has blocked our Fortnite submission so we cannot release to the U.S. App Store or to the Epic Games Store for iOS in the European Union. Now, sadly, Fortnite on iOS will be offline worldwide until Apple unblocks it.”

Based on this statement, Fortnite is not only blocked from the U.S. App Store, but Fortnite on iOS is offline worldwide. That’s a terrible situation for Epic, which has already lost out on billions of dollars of revenue in the five years since Fortnite was booted off iPhones. Now, Tim Sweeney is tweeting at Apple boss Tim Cook to try to get him to change his mind.

“Hi Tim. How about if you let our mutual customers access Fortnite? Just a thought.”

Hi Tim. How about if you let our mutual customers access Fortnite? Just a thought.

— Tim Sweeney (@TimSweeneyEpic) May 15, 2025

After the court ruling, Apple was referred to federal prosecutors for violating the U.S. court order. "Apple’s continued attempts to interfere with competition will not be tolerated," U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers said. "This is an injunction, not a negotiation. There are no do-overs once a party willfully disregards a court order."

The Judge referred Apple and one of its executives, Alex Roman, vice president of finance, to federal prosecutors for a criminal contempt investigation into their conduct in the case. Roman gave testimony about the steps Apple took to comply with her injunction that was "replete with misdirection and outright lies," the judge wrote.

In a statement issued at the time, Apple said: "we strongly disagree with the decision. We will comply with the court’s order and we will appeal." Last week, Apple asked the U.S. appeals court to pause the ruling in the Epic Games case.

Nintendo Just Dropped Info on a Bunch of Switch 1 Games That Are Getting Free Performance Upgrades on Switch 2

16 mai 2025 à 10:34

Nintendo has published a list of Switch 1 games that will get a free performance upgrade on Switch 2, and revealed what fans can expect in terms of improvements.

Games such as Arms, Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom are all set for performance improvements on Switch 2.

Here's Nintendo's official blurb, from the official Nintendo website:

By connecting your Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet and performing a system update, you can download free updates for selected games that may improve graphics or add support for features such as GameShare. The contents of these free updates will differ depending on the game.

To be clear, these upgrades are free, and are not the same as the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games, which are premium upgrades (or, in the case of The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, free upgrades to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers).

So, what can Switch 2 owners expect? Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, for example, get an “improved image quality” for high-resolution TVs and an “improved” framerate for “smoother movement.”

Super Mario Odyssey, on the other hand, gets HDR support and GameShare support, so two people can play together online, with one player controlling Mario and the other controlling Cappy. All the details are below.

Interestingly, Nintendo's list does not mention framerate fixes for the two top-down Zelda games, which is a strange and disappointing omission given their performance problems.

Be sure to check out our interview with Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser to find out more about the just-opened Nintendo San Francisco store, and all things Nintendo Switch.

Here’s the list of free updates for selected Nintendo Switch games:

How to Redeem Codes in Anime Last Stand

Follow the steps below to redeem codes in Anime Last Stand:

  1. Launch Anime Last Stand in Roblox
  2. Click on "Codes" in the left-hand sidebar
  3. Type or paste in your code into the "Code here..." field
  4. Click "Redeem"

You can redeem codes from the lobby in Anime Last Stand. When you're in the game, look at the tabs on the left-hand side of the screen. Amongst these, you'll see one labelled "Codes".

If it's valid, you'll see the rewards you gained flash below the bar in green text. If it's invalid, you'll get a message that the code has already been claimed or isn't valid in yellow text.

Why Isn't My Anime Last Stand Code Working?

If you're getting an Invalid error when putting in your code, make sure the code is spelt correctly, all the letters are in the right case and you've included any required punctuation. You can copy and paste the codes on this page over to Anime Last Stand if you want to make sure you aren't typing them incorrectly. If they still aren't working, there's a chance that they might only be usable on an updated server. Jump to another server and try them there to see if that fixes the issue.

What Can You Get With Anime Last Stand Code Rewards?

When redeeming a code in ALS, you'll earn a variety of rewards. But what are these rewards used for? Below, we've listed all the resources you'll earn from codes and where to use them.

  • Emeralds - A currency used to request new units at the Summon counter, so you can add to your roster of characters.
  • Rerolls - A currency used to roll for new buffs you can add to your units at the Technique counter.
  • Shells - An event currency used purchase items from the Event Merchant. When speaking to them, you can buy exclusive units and cosmetics.
  • Dragon Scales - A currency used in the Dragons vs Hunters event. When speaking to the Hunters merchant, you can use Dragon Scales to buy items from the shop.

How to Get Other Free Rewards in Anime Last Stand

As with a lot of Roblox games, Anime Last Stand has multiple other ways to get free rewards outside of codes. The best method is to spend some time in its AFK World, where you'll accrue free rewards by leaving the game on while you aren't playing. If you're in AFK World, you'll slowly earn Emeralds and Gold, which you can claim before you leave and then use in-game. If you're looking to hop into AFK World and earn some bonuses for your next session, here's what you have to do.

Boot up the game, load into a server and then look in the northeast corner of the plaza you spawn in. You'll see a waterfall with the words AFK above it. Make your way over to this waterfall and, as you approach it, a text box will appear asking you if you want to go into the AFK chamber. Select yes and you'll reach the AFK screen. Here you can see how many Emeralds and how much Gold you've earned, as well as how long you have before your next supply of rewards comes in. When you're ready to leave or get back to the game, press the Claim button to add all of your accumulated rewards to your account.

You can also make sure visit the game once a day to recieve the daily login reward. As soon as you boot up Anime Last Stand, you'll be met with a tab showing all the rewards you'll recieve for visiting the game each day. Simply press the claim button at the bottom of this tab to add the current login reward to your inventory. These range from emeralds to EXP, so it's well worth dropping in at least once each day to claim some additional resources for when you next play.

Another way to bag quick free rewards is to complete your daily quests. Amongst the tabs on the left-hand side of the screen, you'll see a Quests tab. Press it and a page will appear showing a list of daily quests to complete. These range from logging in to killing a set number of enemies. Once you complete these quests, head back into the tab and click the complete button to get a bunch of free resources and currency.

When Do New Anime Last Stand Codes Drop?

New Anime Last Stand codes drop whenever the game receives an update or hits an important milestone. That means you can usually expect codes every week. You can keep track of all the updates that hit the game in the official Anime Last Stand Discord.

Sony Live Service Woes Continue as PlayStation Executive Jade Raymond Exits Fairgames Developer After External Test Sparked Concern

16 mai 2025 à 09:13

Jade Raymond has left Haven Studios, the Sony-owned developer behind online multiplayer shooter Fairgames, with the game reportedly delayed following an external test in yet another blow to PlayStation's live service ambition.

According to Bloomberg, Raymond exited the company she founded several weeks after an external test of Fairgames apparently didn’t go down well. The game was due out fall 2025 but is now delayed to spring 2026.

As Bloomberg put it:

PlayStation leadership didn’t give Haven staff a reason for her departure, but it came several weeks after an external test of Haven’s first game, the online shooter Fairgames, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Some developers at Haven were concerned about how the game was received and its progress, said the people, who asked not to be identified because they aren’t authorized to speak publicly.

Sony is sticking with Haven and Fairgames for now, with new co-studio heads Marie-Eve Danis and Pierre-François Sapinski in place.

It’s yet more trouble for Sony’s embattled live service ambition, which now appears to be in full retreat. While Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 was a breakout hit, becoming the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game of all time with 12 million copies sold in just 12 weeks, Sony’s other live service games were either canceled or suffered disastrous launches.

Indeed, Sony’s Concord is one of the biggest video game disasters in PlayStation history, lasting just a couple of weeks before it was brought offline amid eye-wateringly low player numbers. Sony later decided to kill the game entirely and shut its developer.

The Concord flop came after Sony had already canceled Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us multiplayer game. And earlier this year, Sony reportedly canceled two unannounced live service games, one a God of War title in development at Bluepoint, the other in the works at Days Gone developer Bend.

Sony announced plans in February 2022 to launch more than 10 live service games by March 2026, later saying the push would bring games of different genres to different audiences. It spent big on studio buyouts as part of the drive, bringing in Destiny developer Bungie, Jade Raymond's Haven Studios, and the now shuttered Firewalk Studios.

But in 2023, Sony president Hiroki Totoki said the company was reviewing the 12 live service PlayStation games it had in the works, and committed to launching only six of them by the end of financial year 2025, meaning by the end of March 2026. Totoki said Sony was still working on when the other six live service games would come out, adding: "It's not that we stick to certain titles, but for the gamers quality should be the most important.”

Bungie is still flying the live service flag, with Destiny 2 ongoing and the in-development Marathon set to launch fully later this year. Earlier this month, Sony announced a new PlayStation studio called teamLFG and teased its debut game, which is a live service incubation project. Guerrilla’s Horizon multiplayer game is also in development.

Big Mouth Season 8 Review

16 mai 2025 à 09:01

“It’s the end of a very gross era,” the hormone monster Maury (Nick Kroll) laments in one of the many fourth wall-breaking moments of the final season of Big Mouth. After eight years of combining elder-millennial nostalgia with a comically vulgar approach to sex education, the Netflix series subjects its rich cast of characters to one last barrage of humiliation before sending them off with a warm-and-fuzzy farewell.

The first year of high school provides some robust material for these 10 episodes, demonstrating how much the animated adolescent alter egos of Kroll and his comedian friends have changed and all the challenges to come. Puberty hits kids at different ages, and that simple biological fact is used to great effect as late bloomer Nick (Kroll) finally gets his growth spurt and goes through many of the same trials that his best friend Andrew (John Mulaney) experienced in Big Mouth’s early seasons.

The experience gap allows Andrew to be a disgusting mentor: He sings Nick a Broadway-style tune about how he finds inspiration for masturbation and demonstrates how he’s matured mentally and socially. Nick and Andrew’s friendship has had many rocky moments throughout Big Mouth, and this season is no exception. But it’s also an endearing portrait of male vulnerability and camaraderie that reinforces the series’ message about the power of communication.

That throughline connects the show’s most sensitive and over-the-top moments. Matthew (Andrew Rannells) goes through a raucous musical about the many permutations of gay sex (even this late into its run, Big Mouth knows its way around a song-and-dance routine) just to learn it’s OK to admit to a partner he doesn’t know exactly what he wants. Nick’s belief that he should be able to anticipate what turns a girl on instead of just asking gets him into big trouble, leading to another dark arc for a character who has consistently struggled to take personal responsibility. Meanwhile, Jessi (Jessi Klein) hilariously learns the value of enthusiastic consent by finding the courage to tell her new boyfriend Camden (Whitmer Thomas) to warm up his hands before touching her breasts.

After eight seasons of the main series and two of the spinoff Human Resources, Big Mouth has grown into a fusion of Sex Education and Inside Out packed with anthropomorphized creatures representing concepts cerebral, emotional, and physical, and The Shame Wizard, Tito the Anxiety Mosquito, and Depression Kitty all follow the kids to Bridgeton High. New this season is Compassion (Holly Hunter), a peanut-addicted elephant pushed into retirement by the world’s cruelty. While her introduction is heavy handed, her ability to allow open-minded people to see the creatures that are tormenting everyone around them is a beautiful summation of Big Mouth’s central gimmick. Compassion doesn’t just teach the kids the importance of being kind to others, but also helps them grapple with their own demons.

The final season also shows off the strengths of its rich supporting cast. Caleb (Joe Wengert) started as a gag character, but has developed into a sweet portrayal of autism. His bluntness helps Missy (Ayo Edebiri) get over her dread of high school and even start a relationship with the boy of her dreams Nate – who, in another delightful full circle moment, is played by frequent Big Mouth guest star and Missy’s longtime celebrity crush, Nathan Fillion. The feral antics of Jay (Jason Mantzoukas) have often been a highlight of the show, but even he gets to grow up a bit this season by standing up for his own happiness and helping Matthew tackle his insecurities.

It’s hard to say goodbye to a show this heartwarming, funny, and rewarding.

This season repeatedly mocks the sad state of sex education in American schools and how weird it is that a show featuring furry detached pensises has filled the gap for many viewers. Its semi-regular tradition of combining Everything You’ve Ever Wanted to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid to Ask) and The Simpsons’ “Treehouse of Horror” episodes gets a fitting finale in an episode where Maury and his fellow hormone monster Connie (Maya Rudolph) answer viewer mail. It’s a last chance for the writers and animators to really show off as they tackle queefing in the style of The Twilight Zone and vaginismus as the topic of a talk show hosted by Nick’s parents. To the end, Big Mouth is producing lessons that grab your attention and stick in your mind by being so gross and weird that nothing feels taboo.

It’s hard to say goodbye to a show this heartwarming, funny, and rewarding, and as such, season 8 takes on the sentimentality of a graduation story (even though the kids are only just now starting high school). Season 4 already gave us a glimpse at one potential future for these characters; in its final episodes, Big Mouth embraces the unknowns that lie ahead of them. But it also reassures viewers that they’ll be OK, because they have each other. Plus, they’ve been through so much messy, personal drama already that they’re ready for anything.

Rambo Origin Movie in the Works From the Director of Sisu

16 mai 2025 à 04:58

Rambo is set to return, with a prequel project in the pipe from Sisu and Big Game director Jalmari Helander. According to Deadline, Millennium Media is currently launching the film – called John Rambo – at the Cannes market.

The Cannes market is an event that runs during the Cannes Film Festival, and it’s where upcoming film projects that are still seeking funding or distribution partners are revealed and exhibited to potential investors. Millennium Media, known for the Expendables and Has Fallen series, was one of the production companies behind 2008’s Rambo and 2019’s Rambo: Last Blood.

Nothing is known about John Rambo’s plot beyond the fact that it will be set during the Vietnam War and serve as a prequel to 1982’s iconic First Blood. No casting has been finalised. Deadline reports that original Rambo star Sylvester Stallone is aware of the project but is not involved at this stage.

The script for John Rambo has been written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (The Mauritanian, Black Adam) and it’s planned to begin shooting in Thailand from October.

As unexpected as a Rambo prequel may be, Helander’s carnage-filled 2023 WWII action film Sisu (which essentially turned John Wick into an elderly Finnish commando and set him loose against Nazis retreating from Finland following the Lapland War) indicates he’s certainly up to the job.

This Day in Gaming 🎂

In retro news, I'm celebrating the 12th birthday of Deadly Premonition, a so-bad-it's-great cult hit. Basically, this was an incredibly low-budget Japanese Twin Peaks with ropey visuals, controls, script, voice acting—you name it, they SMSed it in. Considering all of this, you should definitely treat yourself to a drive (hopefully at a heavily discounted rate) to the strange city of Greenvale. If only to watch your FBI protagonist multitask driving along a stormy road, smoking, perusing a case file on a laptop riding shotgun, and having a phone debate about the BDSM implications of Tom & Jerry cartoons. Gloriously, it all goes down[Silent]hill from there.

Nice Savings for Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Switch kicks off strong with Sonic Origins Plus (A$27), a retro compilation that sneaks in Amy Rose as a playable character across all four classic titles, something even the Mega Drive couldn’t dream of. Also worth a look is Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition (A$34), which isn’t just guns and chaos (it also hides a rare tribute to late cosplayer Michael Johnstone in one of its side quests).

The New Superman Trailer Cuts Out a Notable Moment From the First Teaser

16 mai 2025 à 00:46

Did Superman blink... or did James Gunn?

In the latest trailer for the filmmaker's upcoming Superman, some eagle-eyed (Kryptonian-eyed?) fans noticed something about... well, Superman's eyes! Specifically, a change that Gunn and his team seem to have made from the first teaser trailer which was released last December.

In that first teaser, there's a shot of Superman walking through a crowd of angry Metropolis citizens, seemingly after a battle of some kind where David Corenswet's hero hasn't fared too well. One man in the crowd throws a can of something at the Man of Steel, who flinches a bit and blinks, but continues to walk on without looking back.

This had some fans wondering why Superman would react in such a manner to getting hit by a mere can (we don't know what's in the can but let's just pretend it's Duff Beer). But now, in the new trailer, Supes takes the hit like a man -- a super man even! Check out the teaser version and the new trailer version below that:

Of course, it's nothing new for filmmakers to tweak shots from trailers for the final version of the film. Gunn himself has yet to comment on this minor change, and while it's an interesting alteration, it's also a pretty inconsequential one. Sure, we're all combing over every detail of new Superman info as Gunn gets ready to launch his DC Universe on the big screen, but also, I would go so far as to say Superman -- as invulnerable as he is -- is also capable of involuntary physical reactions just like the rest of us. So just as you or I might blink or flinch when, for example, a harmless whiffle ball is thrown at us unexpectedly, it's not out of the realm of possibility that the Man of Steel would also react in a moment like the one in the trailers, despite his relative inability to get hurt.

Besides, the real question is why would that guy in the crowd waste a perfectly good Duff Beer like that?

A Ton of Star Wars Books are Buy One, Get One 50% Off Right Now at Amazon

16 mai 2025 à 00:20

A ton of Star Wars books are currently buy one, get one half off at Amazon. Similar to last week's sale, only certain books qualify, but the Star Wars selection has something for everyone. Notable inclusions are Timothy Zahn's Thrawn books and Claudia Gray's High Republic stories, and there's even a Star Wars sticker book and a manga coloring book! Some books are available in both paperback and hardcover. Keep in mind if you're looking for full Thrawn or High Republic sets, only a handful of titles in these series are on sale, so you may have to fill in the gaps at full price.

For more Star Wars books, you can now preorder Kwame Mbalia's Star Wars: The Last Order, the first story in a post-Rise of Skywalker universe, releasing this October.

Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Novels

Grand Admiral Thrawn is a Chiss-born Imperial military leader. He's gone on to make appearances in shows like Star Wars: Rebels and Ahsoka, and has quickly become some fans' favorite villains (he's one of mine, personally). Timothy Zahn, Thrawn's creator, has written the character since the original Star Wars Legends trilogy starting with Heir to the Empire, and in the Disney era have penned two more Thrawn-focused trilogies: Thrawn, Thrawn: Alliances, and Thrawn: Treason, as well as the most recent Thrawn: Ascendancy books.

The High Republic Era

The High Republic is a massive multimedia push for new Star Wars stories spanning novels, comics, and more. As a sort of prequel to the Skywalker Saga (starting with Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace), the High Republic spans centuries, taking place up to 1,000 years prior to the films. The Disney+ series Star Wars: The Acolyte from 2024 explores the end of this era, giving fans a tease of a famous Sith lord only mentioned in Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith. The books available as part of this sale are only a small chunk of what the initiative has to offer.

Star Wars Legends

Some of the original Star Wars Legends novels from the 90's are included, as well as adaptations of Star Video games. Darth Bane: The Rule of Two is a significant milestone in Sith lore, as Darth Bane was the one to establish that only two Sith can exist at one time: a master and an apprentice. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II's novelization is a good retelling of the story from the game.

Take-Two Feels 'Reasonably Confident' It Won't Be Affected by Tariff Changes

16 mai 2025 à 00:06

We've been writing a lot lately about the ways in which the ongoing tariff chaos in the United States might impact the games industry, from consoles to accessories to software. And while some folks seem to be fairly concerned over how this might impact both consumers and business, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick seemed relatively unphased by the idea of tariffs on today's Q&A call with investors.

Toward the end of the call, Zelnick was asked whether he was concerned specifically about potential console price increases and their impact on the overall gaming ecosystem. This was referring to the recent price bump on Xbox Series consoles, and the expected PlayStation 5 increase that may follow.

Zelnick believes that confusing as the tariff back-and-forth is, Take-Two's fiscal guidance is fairly set in stone, at least for the coming year:

"Our guide is for the next ten months, essentially, that's the part of the fiscal year that hasn't elapsed yet, and it's very difficult to predict where tariffs will land, given how things have bumped around so far. We feel reasonably confident that our guide wouldn't be meaningfully affected, unless tariffs ran off in a very different direction than we currently expect. In any case, there's already a very substantial install base for all of our target platforms except Nintendo Switch 2, which is pre-launch. So we have, I think, enough insight that we wouldn't be affected by any changes."

Zelnick has reason to be confident. As he points out, most of the games Take-Two will release in the coming fiscal year are coming to platforms people largely already own. A few people buying or not buying an Xbox Series or a PS5 or even a Nintendo Switch 2 isn't going to make a massive difference. What's more, much of Take-Two's revenue comes from digital purchases in ongoing games like GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, and its mobile business, which aren't subject to tariffs at all.

Still, as Zelnick notes, everything is still up in the air. We've spoken to analysts numerous times over the last few months on the subject of tariffs, and all of them have reiterated that the situation is ever-changing and unpredictable, which even the CEO of Take-Two is leaving room for.

We spoke directly to Zelnick ahead of the investor call about the company's quarter, including discussion of GTA 6's development timeline, and Zelnick's thoughts on the game's recent delay to next year. And we also wrote about Zelnick's Q&A comments on the Nintendo Switch 2, and why he's optimistic for its release.
