The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Nintendo Direct: Everything Announced

Nintendo has revealed a new trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie during this weekend's surprise Nintendo Direct, revealing Yoshi in full.

Hosted by the legendary creator of Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto, the short presentation began quickly with an extended look at Mario and Luigi motorbiking over the desert, as seen in the movie's previous trailer. The duo head to a location familiar to anyone who's played Super Mario Odyssey, an inverted pyramid in the Sand Kingdom.

Tasked with unblocking a rogue Warp Pipe, Mario and Luigi power up with Fire Flowers and head into the darkness. As Mario's infamous underground music plays, the brothers reach the blocked pipe which has something inside... It's Yoshi! Who talks!

Back in November, the movie was the focus of another dedicated Nintendo Direct that confirmed the film will introduce Rosalina to the big screen, voiced by Marvel star Brie Larson. Another new addition to the animated ensemble will be Bowser Jr., here voiced by Benny Safdie.

Safdie and Larson will be joined by the returning cast from the first movie: Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Previously, we've heard word that the movie will feature some Nintendo characters that "are really deep cuts", and fans have speculated that its plot may finally confirm a long-held theory around Peach and Rosalina's origins. Lastly, back in November, Minions animation studio Illumination said it was just "weeks away" from completing its work on the film.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will land in theaters on April 3 in the US, and April 24 in Nintendo's homeland of Japan.

Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Event: Everything Announced

2025 marks 40 years since Akira Toriyama’s ground-breaking Dragon Ball manga first hit shelves in Japan. The Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri was held in Japan over the weekend to celebrate the global manga, anime and video game phenomenon. Taking up the huge Makuhari Messe event space near Tokyo, the event featured everything from exclusive merch, live game contests, and specially-curated exhibits of original artwork. The main stage was packed with exciting announcements about where the series is headed after the death of series creator Akira Toriyama, including two new anime TV series, a new game and a “massive” new DLC for Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero.

Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol Anime

The event kicked off with a brief talk between Son Goku’s Japanese VA Masako Nozawa and Dragon Ball series executive producer Akio Iyoku, followed by the premiere of a special video marking the 40th anniversary of Dragon Ball. Featuring music specially composed by Hans Zimmer, the film celebrates the evolution of Dragon Ball over the years, from Toriyama’s original manga drawings through to its various anime adaptations. The end of the video revealed a brand new anime series, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, prompting excited clapping from the audience.

Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol will adapt the Moro or Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc (Chapters 42 to 67) of the Dragon Ball Super manga. It follows on from the Universe Survival Arc of the Dragon Ball Super anime, which aired between 2015 to 2018. Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol is currently in production, and fans will have to wait until 2027 to see Son Goku and Vegeta battle it out against Moro.

Age 1000 Game Project

Next, Iyoku was joined on stage by Dragon Ball Games producer Masayuki Hirano, who revealed a flashy trailer for a brand new game project, Age 1000. However, the game’s official title will be announced later.

The Age 1000 project is good news for fans who thought they would never see any new creations from Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama after his death in 2024. Apparently, Bandai Namco started developing Age 1000 around seven years ago, and Toriyama himself put a lot of work into the game’s worldbuilding and brand new characters. The trailer shows a mysterious grey-haired young man decked out in Capsule Corp gear, with Hirano revealing that “I asked Toriyama sensei to create this character especially for the game.” Although the new character seems like a new Super Saiyan, Hirano was tight-lipped about who he is. However, fans will have to wait for Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 (to be held on April 18-19 in LA) for further details.

The project’s name calls to mind Dragon Ball Online, which took place in the age 1000- so it seems the new game will also be exploring this time period. “We have spent a long time carefully crafting this project.” Iyoku explained. “I think this game will allow us to experience a brand new part of the Dragon Ball world.” Age 1000 is slated for a 2027 release.

Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO to get “massive” new DLC

Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero producer Jun Furutani revealed that the fighting game will be getting a “massive” new DLC this summer. The trailer for the DLC teased even more playable characters (including Super Android 17 and Demon King Piccolo), new costumes, new super attacks for Vegeta and Goku, as well as new stages and modes.

The upcoming DLC will also have its own theme song, Zero, sung by series veteran Hironobu Kageyama- who is known for his many Dragon Ball Z theme songs. Kageyama performed the new song, saying he was honored to contribute to Dragon Ball again after 18 years. With Zero, he aimed to create a cheerful and powerful song that will energize anyone who hears it.

For those who can’t wait, producer Furutani also reminded PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam players that Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero is getting a free DLC on January 26, the Mission 100 single player mode (which longtime fans will remember from Dragon Ball Budokai Tenakichi 3). He announced that Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions of the game will be getting the DLC at a later date: “please bear with us a little longer.”

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Anime

After lunch, Dragon Ball series executive producer Akio Iyoku and Son Goku VA Masako Nozawa returned to the stage alongside VA Koichi Yamadera for another new anime series announcement. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, a remake of Dragon Ball Super’s first arc, is coming in Fall 2026.

Iyoku describes Dragon Ball Super: Beerus as an “enhanced version of the story.” The upcoming anime series is designed to be “more faithful to the original manga” created by Akira Toriyama. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will feature enhanced visuals, redrawn and newly added cuts, narrative reworks, and promises to deliver “even more immersive battle scenes” than the original Dragon Ball Super anime.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus also aims to show Beerus in a more serious light than the mischievous villain people are used to. “Beerus is a powerful enemy and a powerful character, so I wanted to make sure to bring that out this time.” Iyoku explained. Beerus’s voice actor Yamadera added, “You think he (Beerus) is just a weird uncle talking about food (…) but he’s actually the God of Destruction!”

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be airing on Japan’s Fuji TV in Fall 2026, with details about international distribution expected to be announced soon. For now, check out the trailer, below.

Every Harry Potter Illustrated Edition You Can Buy in 2026

The Harry Potter books are some of the bestselling novels of all time. Now that it's been almost 30 years since the first book was published, you can enjoy the story in pretty much every form. There's the Harry Potter movies, multiple audiobooks, and a ton of different video games to dive into. But for those just looking to read the original books in a new way, there are also multiple illustrated editions that are great for collectors.

Deciding which illustrated edition set to buy is slightly more complicated than it should be, however. There's the illustrated editions and then there's the interactive illustrated editions, both of which have yet to be fully completed. I have experience buying both as gifts, so I'm here to give you a quick rundown of the differences and what to expect from each series.

The Harry Potter Illustrated Editions

First up, there's the standard illustrated editions. These are illustrated by Jim Kay and began back in 2015. The pictures are vibrant and really do capture the essence of Harry Potter in a way that the movies never really could. There's a nice mix of story and images as you flip through the pages that make these great for reading to kids or just enjoying as an adult fan of the franchise.

One major note about these editions is that there are currently only five available. The Order of the Phoenix was the last book illustrated by Jim Kay before he decided to leave the project in 2022. It wasn't until recently that the publisher announced that the sixth book was being taken up by a new illustrator, Levi Pinfold. The Halfblood Prince Illustrated Edition is set to be released on October 6, 2026. You can currently preorder it for $54.99.

The Harry Potter Interactive Illustrated Editions

Alongside the normal illustrated editions, there are also the interactive illustrated editions. The first one of these was published back in 2020 by MinaLima. The interactive element here refers to papercraft hidden within the pages. These are essentially illustrations that spin, open up, or can be played with in some way. I own the first three of these and have really enjoyed playing with the interactive elements, but it's clear that they aren't built for heavy use. The illustrations and papercraft here are delightful, but you'll likely start to experience some wear and tear after a few read-throughs. This is doubly true if younger kids are involved.

Similar to the Jim Kay editions, the interactive illustrated editions hit a bit of a hiccup after design studio MinaLima announced they would no longer be working on these books Scholastic continued on with the project and released The Goblet of Fire just last year with a new illustrator and designer. Although we don't yet have a release date for the next book in the series, we do know that work is continuing.

Bonus: Hogwarts Library Illustrated Collection

If you're looking for something outside of the original series, you can also check the Hogwarts Library series of illustrated editions. These are companion books that are tangential to the main story. You can purchase these individually or buy the whole collection at once. Here's a quick rundown of each book in the collection:

Lorwyn Eclipsed Bestiary: All Creature Types Explained

Kithkin

In a lengthy blog post, Wizards said it wanted to stay true to the original Lorwyn creature types, and pushed to ensure the Limited environment brings creatures together with a playstyle in mind.

Kithkin lean into the green-white colors and a ‘go wide’ strategy, and while they might seem relatively adorable, Champion of the Clachan shows they’re able to tame bigger beasts, too. It’s a 4/5 with Flash, and buffs your other Kithkin with +1/+1.

Merfolk

Merfolk excel in white-blue and lean into blue’s general mischief and white for buffing your other creatures into a tangled web of counters.

Our favorite is Sygg, Wanderbrine Shield. He’s a 2/2 that can’t be blocked, but transforms into Sygg, Wanderwine Wisdom. Doing so protects one of your cards, and when he transforms, he can turn damage into card advantage.

Elves

As is often the case, Elves exist in Green primarily, but don’t discount black, either, with handy mill and graveyard payoffs like Dawnhand Eulogist and Gloom Ripper.

We’re a big fan of Selfless Safewright. It’s a 4/2, five-cost Elf Warrior creature with Flash and Convoke, and turns creatures of a chosen type hexproof and indestructible until the end of the turn.

Goblins

Goblins and Red go together like a dream, and Hexing Squelcher takes our pick. It’s an uncounterable 2/2 creature for two mana that has Ward (2 life) and stops your other spells from being countered while also giving them Ward (2 life).

Elsewhere, Auntie Ool is already becoming pretty popular since they appeared in the Blight Curse precon deck.

Elementals

Elementals take up all five colors, just like their precon, and there are big-hitters like Avenger of Zendikar and Muldrotha the Gravetide to be found in there.

As for our pick, I’ve gone for Moonshadow. It’s a 7/7 card that only costs one mana, but you don’t unlock its full potential until cards hit the graveyard and you get rid of its -1/-1 counters.

Faeries

Just as mischievous as they were in Wilds of Eldraine, Faeries exist across primarily blue and black.

For our favorite, I’ve picked Bitterbloom Bearer. It’s a low-cost flying card with flash, but it turns your life into small Faerie creature tokens.

Giants

There aren’t a ton of cards in the Giant category, but cards like Grave Titan are reprinted.

Burdened Stoneback, not unlike Moonshadow, enters with counters present. These ones can be removed, however, with a mana ability that can turn other creatures indestructible.

Treefolk

Again, not a huge number of treefolk here, but still some great options like Blighted Blackthorn and Sinister Gnarlbark.

Still, it’s Ferrafor, Young Yew who takes our top spot for Treefolk. It’s a 4/7 Treefolk Druid that doubles counters with its tapped ability, and creates a bunch of Saproling creature tokens when it enters, too.

How to Add IGN as a Preferred Source on Google

Google search is certainly something these days. Between AI overviews, shopping carousels, and a heck of a lot of spam, it can feel like you don’t have a lot of control over what pops up in your browser. The reality is, Google now looks different for everyone, but even a tailored algorithm won’t always get you where you want to go.

To give users a direct say in their search results, Google rolled out “Preferred Sources” in August 2025. This specifically affects what publishers or sources are appearing in the “Top Stories’ section on Google. If you want more IGN in your life, here’s how you can make us a preferred source for you. The same steps apply to any other website.

How to Set a Preferred Source in Google

The easiest route is logging into a Google account and heading directly to https://www.google.com/preferences/source. This will bring you to a page in your Account Settings called "Source Preferences." Simply type in the homepage URL for your favorite publisher, in my case, IGN.com, and it will be automatically added to your preferred sources and appear more often in Top Stories carousels.

You can also type something (anything) into Google that could pull up a Top Stories carousel like the one shown below. Clicking on the little button to the right of the “Top Stories” header reveals the same "Source Preferences" page as a small-pop up, letting you adust your source preferences on the fly. You can add as many preferred sources as you want, and rest assured Google will still show you other results when they’re more relevant to your query.
