Spotify hit with cease and desist from music publishers alleging ‘direct infringement’

Spotify is being accused of engaging in “direct infringement by hosting unlicensed musical works in its lyrics, videos and podcasts” by the National Music Publishers Association. In a new letter sent to the music streaming service this week, the NMPA alleges that Spotify “distributes music videos and podcasts using musical works without the consent of or compensation.”

A bug in iOS 17.5 is allegedly resurfacing photos that were deleted years ago for some iPhone users, according to posts on Reddit. The affected iPhone users say that after updating to iOS 17.5 – which was released on Monday – there are a number of pictures in the Photos app that were deleted years ago.

This app brings Dashboard-style web clip widgets to Apple Vision Pro

With Mac OS X Leopard, which was released in 2007, Apple added a feature called “Web Clip” to Dashboard. This allowed users to turn any part of a website into a live widget that could then be added to Dashboard and would update in real-time.

While Dashboard on the Mac is dead, a new app this week brings the Web Clip idea back to life – this time on Apple Vision Pro.

Here’s how much lighter the iPad Pro’s new Magic Keyboard actually is

Update: The 11-inch iPad Pro’s new Magic Keyboard weighs 580 grams, according to a user who received theirs early. This is down from 601 grams for the previous model.

When Apple announced the new iPad Pro lineup last week, it also unveiled a new Magic Keyboard accessory that it touted as being “thinner and lighter” than its predecessor.

While Apple doesn’t share official weight specifications for iPad accessories, the first reviews of the M4 iPad Pro today confirm that the new Magic Keyboard is noticeably lighter.

Apple Store workers in Maryland vote in favor of a strike over working conditions

Two years ago, Apple Store workers in Towson, Maryland voted in favor of unionization, making it the first Apple retail location in the United States to unionize. Now, those Apple Towson Town Center employees have authorized a strike, after “a year of negotiations with Apple management that yielded unsatisfactory outcomes.”

Apple apologizes for controversial iPad Pro ad, scraps plans for TV campaign

Alongside the new ultra-thin iPad Pro this week, Apple debuted a new “Crush!” ad to promote the new hardware. The ad has been the subject of much criticism over the last two days, as we reported on Thursday morning.

Apple has now responded to this criticism, issuing a public apology to Ad Age saying it “missed the mark with this video.”

Apple needed a little bit of help to shoot its ‘Let loose’ event on iPhone

Apple’s “Let loose” special event this week was shot on iPhone, much like last October’s “Scary fast” event. This time around, however, Apple appears to have gotten some help by attaching additional lenses to the iPhones.

Apple has confirmed to Stu Maschwitz that this week’s event was shot on iPhone 15 Pro Max, with lenses from Panavision attached for certain scenes.
