Earlier this year, Ubisoft shut down all online services for its 2014 racing game, The Crew. As an extra step, Ubisoft also went and removed the game from customers' digital libraries. Now, the company faces a lawsuit for making the game defunct. 

Two people who bought the game have filed a lawsuit against Ubisoft claiming the company violated California consumer protection laws. The filing claims that Ubisoft misled customers by not properly disclosing the ‘limited license' nature of their game purchase.

As many gamers already know, digital games have included legal language in their terms and conditions for many years now, stating that users own a license to play the game and not the game itself. Given how common this is, especially in the T&Cs of an online-only game, it seems likely that Ubisoft will be able to use this as part of its defence.

The lawsuit argues that Ubisoft sold players “a key to open the gates of a remote server, which Defendants could on day decide to fail to maintain”.

Following Ubisoft pulling online services for The Crew, a petition known as Stop Killing Games began gaining traction, seeking to obtain political intervention on the issue of game preservation. This also prompted Ubisoft to begin working on an offline mode for The Crew 2 and the most recent game in the series, The Crew Motorfest.

KitGuru Says: I think the age of the online-only single-player game should come to an end. If a game can be played solo, then there should always be an offline option. Multiplayer games can also live on for generations by offering gamers the option to host their own servers. This is the exact reason all of Valve's classic games are still playable today, and many other old-school multiplayer PC shooters. 

Valve has announced a surprise new Steam Deck model. For a limited time, the Steam Deck OLED will be available in white. 

The Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White will be available starting from the 18th of November, starting at 11PM GMT.

As this version is limited edition, stock will be “allocated proportionally” across regions where the Steam Deck is available. Aside from the fresh White look, it is no different to the normal 1TB Steam Deck OLED model. To give some contrast, the buttons and thumbsticks on this version are grey.

The Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White will cost £599, which is slightly more expensive than the standard black version. This practise is often observed in the PC case market as well, where white models tend to be a touch more expensive than their black counterparts.

KitGuru Says: I've been very happy with my Steam Deck OLED since getting it earlier this year. Having seen this white version now though, I do hope Valve launches the next Steam Deck with black and white options. 

Nvidia has teamed up with Bethesda and Machine Games to offer up free copies of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle with purchases of RTX 40 graphics cards, or laptops with an RTX 40 series GPU. 

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has already made one headline this week, as the team at Machine Games dropped a 15-minute gameplay deep dive, giving us our closest look yet at their original adventure starring our favourite whip-wielding archaeologist. Now, the game is back in the news. Any Indy fans that also happen to be in the market for a new graphics card may want pick up an RTX 40 series GPU soon.

Starting from today, anyone who picks up an RTX 4090, RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4080, RTX 4070 Ti Super, RTX 4070 Ti, RTX 4070 Super, or RTX 4070 desktop graphics card will also get a free code for the Digital Premium Edition of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on Steam. The same offer applies to laptops equipped with an RTX 4070 laptop GPU or higher.

KitGuru Says: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is shaping up to be an interesting end-of-year release. With the holidays coming just after the game's release, fans will have a good amount of free time to give the story a playthrough. 

It has been three years since Rockstar's remasters of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas came to PC and console platforms. At launch, these definitive edition versions were a broken mess, resulting in delays for the planned mobile ports. The mobile versions eventually arrived in significantly improved form, and now those changes are finally making their way over to PC and consoles. 

After three years of waiting, major updates have now arrived for Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: The Definitive Edition on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The update is sizeable, coming in at over 18GB for San Andreas, over 8GB for Vice City and over 4GB for Grand Theft Auto 3.

As spotted by Rockstar Intel, the update includes several of the improvements found in the mobile versions of these games, including the new Classic Lighting mode, which does away with the Definitive Edition's botched lighting and brings back the more colourful look of the original games. Crucially, Classic Lighting is now the default option when you launch any of the three games.

Other improvements have been made to the sky and clouds in the game, character models, textures, weather effects and more. Those subscribed to GTA+ can play the definitive edition trilogy for free through the Rockstar Launcher. Netflix subscribers can download the game on their smartphone or tablet as part of their subscription. Alternatively, the game is available to purchase directly via Rockstar, Epic Games and Steam, as well as digitally on Xbox, PlayStation and the Nintendo Switch.
