Wind Waker HD could still come to Switch 2, claims Nintendo

11 avril 2025 à 12:30

Over the course of the Switch’s life cycle, Nintendo ported pretty much every single Wii U exclusive to the console, offering enhanced resolutions and sometimes additional content. One of the few games to never see such a remaster was The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. Despite the fact that the GameCube version of Wind Waker is coming to Switch 2 through NSO, the company claimed that a more comprehensive port could happen in future.

Following the confirmation that Wind Waker would be coming to Switch 2 through the system’s new Nintendo Switch Online GameCube emulator, many fans were left fearing that the well-received Wii U port of ‘Wind Waker HD’ would be ignored as a result.

Wind Waker HD Nintendo

In an interview conducted by Kinda Funny’s Tim Getty towards Nintendo of America's senior vice-president of product development [Nate Bihldorff], it was revealed that Wind Waker HD could still come to Switch 2, with Getty later stating:

“I did ask if having The Wind Waker on Nintendo Switch Online precludes it from the Switch 2 getting the actual Wii U port at some point, and he was very quick to say ‘no, all options are on the table.'”

Of course, Wind Waker HD coming to Switch 2 could be a monkey’s paw situation at this point, given the current pricing strategies for Nintendo’s ports. Still, Wind Waker HD was an excellent title, and so it (and Twilight Princes HD) deserve to be deshackled from the Wii U’s dying grasp.

KitGuru says: What did you think of the Switch 2’s NSO line-up? What did you think of the changes made for Wind Waker HD? How much do you reckon Nintendo would charge for a proper Switch 2 port? Let us know down below.

Insider reveals the impact of HBO’s The Last of Us on game sales

11 avril 2025 à 11:45

With Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us mere days away, buzz surrounding the upcoming series has begun to bubble up. Ahead of this, one insider has shared just how much the success of the first Season impacted game sales.

Back when Season 1 of HBO’s The Last of Us first dropped, we received some indication as to the synergistic impact of the show on its videogame sales performance.

Though a rather slim section of the market, it was reported at the time that the UK boxed sales for The Last of Us Part I spiked by 238% following Season 1’s premiere.

The Last of Us Game

Ahead of the second season, we’ve now gotten much more comprehensive statistics, with Christopher Dring of The Game Business revealing that Season 1 resulted in two particular spikes in sales – after the season premiere (38%) and during the finale (75%).

Even amongst those who already owned the games (or perhaps had access through PS Plus), monthly active players skyrocketed – going as high as a 1000% month-over-month increase for TLOU Remastered; 440% for TLOU Part II and 347% for the PS5 console exclusive Part I Remake.

With Season 2 just a couple days away, it will be interesting to see how the game sales are impacted this time round – and whether Part II will see the highest bump.

KitGuru says: Are you hyped for Season 2? Will you be playing / replaying the games in anticipation? Let us know down below.

Vampire Survivors gets massive free update with over a dozen new weapons and much more

11 avril 2025 à 11:00

Since its initial release back in 2022, Vampire Survivors has continued to thrive through the consistent release of DLC – both free and paid. Available right now, the free Emerald Diorama update has gone live; featuring a dozen new characters, weapons and much more.

Making the announcement on Steam, the team at Poncle officially unveiled the Emerald Diorama DLC. Available right now, this expansion is made in collaboration with Square Enix’s SaGa RPG franchise and features 12 new characters; 16 weapons; 9 music tracks; character parties and the new World-Weaving Stage.

Beyond this, the game has also gotten a more general update. Named The Coop, this introduces a new relic which allows you to speed up the game alongside two brand new Adventures (with 6 chapters each); a new stage; character; weapon and more.

Last but not least, Vampire Survivors has finally gotten full cross-save support, allowing you to seamlessly play between PC, Xbox, Android and iOS. Unfortunately, Switch owners will have to wait a bit, and PlayStation players may be left out of cross-save entirely. Poncle’s full statement on the matter can be found HERE.

Regardless, this represents a massive update for Vampire Survivors, especially given the fact that every addition is pretty much free. Hopefully the cross-save situation on PS4/5 gets resolved as soon as possible.

KitGuru says: Are you excited for this update? Will you be hopping back into Vampire Survivors? Which platform do you play the game on the most? Let us know down below.

Twopan Portable SSD review: Compact but expensive iPhone storage

The Twopan Portable SSD 2TB is a good external storage option intended for your iPhone and iPad, but its retail cost is prohibitive, so wait for a good sale.

Beating the storage limits of an iPhone or iPad can be done in two ways. You can use cloud storage, or your can attach an external storage device.

All the second option requires is an external drive with a USB-C connection that can plug into an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. However, typical external drives take up space, and aren't great for carrying around.

Apple's shares have had a bad time since the tariff war began.

On Wednesday, Apple ended the day at $198.85, up 15.3% from Tuesday's closing level, after Trump announced a pause on tariffs. Just one day later, Thursday's end of trading saw the Apple stock return to its previous downward trend.

At the start of the session, early trading brought Apple's price down to 189.06, but that hit was short-lived as it shot up to $194.78 within an hour. At the time of closure, however, Apple's shares reached $190.42, down 4.24% from the start of the day.

US iPhone production's main challenge is a century of big business labor decisions

Despite repeated political promises recently saying otherwise, because of federal wants and big business needs over the last 100 years, the U.S. lacks both the low-cost labor and specialized manufacturing workforce needed to bring iPhone production home.

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt answered whether Trump believes iPhone production could ultimately move to the US. Allegedly, he thinks the U.S. has the money and labor to float such a project.

That is not the case.

Apple's high storage prices may be key to mitigating iPhone 17 Pro price rises

Investment firm Morgan Stanley theorizes that Apple has long-term options to protect its iPhone 17 Pro prices from tariff hikes, including steering buyers to larger storage capacities, which have a greater profit margin.

Even though Trump has now paused many tariffs, and even though it's become possible that Apple will get an exemption, the company won't be betting on that. Doubtlessly Apple will take any exemption it can get, but it also knows Trump changes his mind on a whim, so it will be looking to long game.

That's the opinion of analysts at Morgan Stanley, in a new note to investors seen by AppleInsider. They even see a route through the tariff turbulence that could see it able to keep its iPhone prices at the same level as before.

Behind the scenes, Siri's failed iOS 18 upgrade was a decade-long managerial car crash

The long-delayed overhaul of Siri was hit by repeated failures to progress, with leadership problems making it harder to execute than it should've been.

In March, Apple admitted that its attempt to make Siri more personalized and up to date was far behind schedule. It confirmed that there were delays in getting Siri to the state where the company wanted it to be, and that it would be sorted out in the coming year.

Since that rare admittance from Apple, the company has done what it can to fix the situation. This included a managerial reshuffle, pushing John Giannandrea out of the top Siri role in favor of Mike Rockwell.

The Talos Principle: Reawakened Review – I Know I’m A Person, But Not A Genius

The Talos Principle: Reawakened Key Art

The Talos Principle is one of video game's most well-known happy accidents. Before its release, players knew developer Croteam for their Serious Sam games. Each Serious Sam game couldn't be any further from the kind of game that The Talos Principle is. That's why it was no surprise to me when I learned that development for The Talos Principle began as development for a new Serious Sam game. Basic puzzle elements featured in The Talos Principle were conceived as a way of navigating the war-torn world of Serious Sam and eventually morphed into what became the 2014 puzzle game. More […]

Nvidia RTX 50 graphics cards now also using SK Hynix GDDR7 memory chips

10 avril 2025 à 16:35

It's known that Nvidia has been using Micron and Samsung GDDR7 chips to power the RTX 50 series. However, a new player has now joined their ranks, with SK Hynix now supplying GDDR7 memory for newly manufactured RTX 50 series graphics cards.

It's important to clarify that Nvidia doesn't actually use the memory chips. While board partners ultimately procure and install the memory chips, Nvidia often selects the memory vendors. This practice stems from cost-efficiency, as purchasing GPUs and memory in bundles can be more economical.

According to MEGAsizeGPU, Nvidia's GeForce RTX 50 GPUs now support memory from three manufacturers: Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron.

To identify the memory vendor on a specific graphics card, users can run GPU-Z, which provides detailed information about the installed memory chips. You can also disassemble the card to see what memory modules are installed. However, this may void the warranty or damage thermal pads, so it's better to stick with GPU-Z.

KitGuru says: With one more memory manufacturer producing memory chips for Nvidia, do you think the availability of these cards will improve?

Gigabyte registers upcoming Radeon RX 9060 XT and RTX 5060 Ti GPUs with RRA

10 avril 2025 à 16:30

Gigabyte has registered its upcoming Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics card variants with the RRA (South Korean Radio Research Agency), signaling their readiness for release. Moreover, it registered various RTX 5060 Ti cards, but to our surprise, all were 16GB variants.

There's a notable disparity between Gigabyte's planned offerings for Radeon and GeForce GPUs. As spotted by @harukaze5719, Gigabyte intends to provide a diverse range of GeForce RTX 5060 Ti models, including Eagle, Windforce, Gaming, Aero, and even Aorus Elite options. However, its Radeon RX 9060 XT lineup is more limited, featuring only Gaming models, one with 16GB VRAM and another with 8GB. Additionally, the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti SKUs do not include any 8GB variants.

The GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and the Radeon RX 9060 XT are expected to be available in 16GB and 8GB memory configurations. However, the memory technology differs: the RTX 5060 Ti will use GDDR7, while the Radeon RX 9060 XT will use GDDR6. Both cards are projected to employ a 128-bit memory bus, resulting in a bandwidth of 448 GB/s for the former and 320 GB/s for the latter.

The GeForce RTX 5060 Ti is anticipated to launch next week, while a firm release date for the Radeon RX 9060 XT is still unknown.

KitGuru says: Out of the two upcoming mid-range GPUs from Nvidia and AMD, which one are you the most curious about? Are you planning on getting one of them?

Bungie confirms you won’t need a PSN account for Marathon on PC or Xbox

10 avril 2025 à 16:05

Bungie is gearing up for its big Marathon reveal next week. While owned by Sony, Bungie is in a unique position, as it has more independence than other first-party PlayStation studios. As a result, Marathon will be one of the few PlayStation PC titles that does not require a PSN account.

As spotted by Eurogamer, Marathon won't require a PSN account in order to play. Initially, some fans were concerned about the possibility of the game requiring users to make a PSN account, which would lock players from hundreds of countries out of being able to play the game. Bungie addressed the issue head-on in its Marathon Discord Server, stating that “Marathon will not require a PlayStation account for players on PC and Xbox”.

Marathon Bungie

Initially, Sony did not have any PSN requirements for its PC games. However, shortly after the successful launch of Helldivers 2 on PC, Sony changed tactics and implemented PSN account logins for Helldivers 2, and upcoming (at the time) titles like Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök and Ghost of Tsushima. This led to those games being unpurchasable in hundreds of countries, as PSN is only supported in a handful of regions.

Eventually, the backlash to this led to Sony backtracking on its PSN account requirements. Helldivers 2 no longer requires a PSN login to play and in January, Sony announced plans to remove PSN log-in requirements for its big single-player games too, including the likes of Spider-Man 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.

KitGuru Says: Given that Sony threw in the towel on PSN account enforcement in January, it would seem there was still some concern around Marathon. I'm not sure this concern was warranted at this stage, but at least Bungie was quick to address it.

Nearly 50% of Overwatch quitters moved to Marvel Rivals

10 avril 2025 à 15:43

It was clear from the jump that Marvel Rivals was looking to dethrone Overwatch. The game delivers team-based 5v5 gameplay, with a focus on synergising heroes and their abilities to win the map objective, with a focus on competitive gameplay. As it turns out, Marvel Rivals may well have succeeded.

Marvel Rivals was a hit from day-one, amassing millions of players following its launch in December 2024. Where did many of those players come from? Overwatch – at least according to the games market analysts at NewZoo.

According to their latest industry report, 45 percent of the Overwatch 2 players who stopped playing in December 2024 did move over to Marvel Rivals instead. I have to say, this is true within my own circle of friends too, where former Overwatch die-hards are now regularly logging hours on Marvel Rivals instead, so I have little trouble believing this figure.

As spotted by Insider Gaming, the report also notes that despite only releasing in December, Marvel Rivals had the eighth highest total playtime of any game on Steam in 2024.

Blizzard has previously addressed the increased pressure the Overwatch team now faces, admitting that Overwatch 2 had ‘not evolved' as much as it should have. Following Marvel Rivals' success, Blizzard has been trying to bring players back in with events like Overwatch: Classic, bringing back the old 6v6 game mode with two tanks per team.

KitGuru Says: Free to Play games now dominate the console and PC gaming markets, not just the mobile space. Once established, it is incredibly difficult to dethrone one of these titles. The interesting thing will be whether or not Blizzard can really win players back without starting over again with an Overwatch 3.

HBO renews The Last of Us for Season 3 ahead of Season 2 premiere

10 avril 2025 à 14:00

We are just days away from the premiere of The Last of Us Season 2. The first season was a critical success and was well received by fans old and new. The second season has already begun receiving high-scoring reviews and now, HBO has confirmed plans for Season 3.

Speaking with Variety, The Last of Us series co-creator, Craig Mazin, confirmed that season 3 has already been ordered, stating: “We approached Season 2 with the goal of creating something we could be proud of. The end results have exceeded even our most ambitious goals, thanks to our continued collaboration with HBO and the impeccable work of our unparalleled cast and crew.”

Currently, the plan appears to be to squeeze “one or two more seasons” out of the source material available. With The Last of Us Part 2 leaving plenty of plotlines open for future exploration, if the show is popular enough, it could end up going beyond the scope of the games.

Despite the popularity of the games and the TV series, Last of Us game director, Neil Druckmann, has stated that Part 3 is not in development. Naughty Dog has a different game in the works at the moment, a new IP called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

KitGuru Says: Season 2 is set to be seven episodes long. Depending on how much further the showrunners want to take the series, we could see The Last of Us wrapped up with a slightly longer third season, or two more seasons of similar length to the current seasons.

Persona 3 Reload gets surprise demo featuring hours of content

10 avril 2025 à 13:00

Available across PlayStation, Xbox and PC, this demo is of course free to download and includes quite a bit of content.

Letting you experience the opening months of the game’s story, the P3R demo takes you all the way up to the Priestess boss – translating to roughly 6-8 hours of gameplay.

Maybe it's just that Instagram head Adam Mosseri finally picked up an iPad for himself and changed his mind about Apple versus Android. Or maybe his engineers have finally revolted against the tedium of supporting eleventy-billion different Android devices and no iPads.

But according to The Information, Instagram is now developing a native iPad app. And it's doing so as part of its larger efforts to compete with TikTok.

Ebuyer has relied on AMD for the central components in this AlphaSync Prebuilt Gaming PC. The CPU is a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which is the best gaming processor that money can buy while the graphics are Radeon RX 9070 XT. Our review PC came with a Sapphire Pulse graphics card and the result was a fine gaming experience. In the main we were very happy with this PC but we came across a couple of quirks during our review and one of them could well be a deal-breaker.

AIDA64 Memory Bandwidth throws up an interesting result as the Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 memory kit performs very well.

Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p

Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p shows the AlphaSync Prebuilt Gaming PC performing well, the results are good and very playable.

Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p

When we turn up Cyberpunk 2077 to 1440p, the GPU can't match an RTX 4090 – as we'd expect – but nonetheless the frame rate is very good and the gaming experience is great.

Closing Thoughts

The component parts used in the AlphaSync Prebuilt Gaming PC are solid choices from reputable brands, however the motherboard lets the side down. We don't mind the choice of B650 chipset over X670, B850 or X870 however the features of this Asus Prime are very basic. The absence of USB-C ports on the rear I/O panel crosses a line that we cannot forgive and we hope to goodness that Ebuyer ups the spec of this system, even if that costs an extra £100 on the retail price.

We were very happy with the build quality of the AlphaSync Prebuilt Gaming PC and could find no flaws. On the configuration side of things we raised a question over the absent software from Asus and Corsair as we expect to be able to control RGB software. The solution, as you can see in our video, was to do the job ourselves and the end results were very pleasing.

You can buy the Ebuyer AMD AlphaSync Prebuilt Gaming PC for £2,200 HERE.

Pros

  • Good gaming performance.
  • Build quality is very good.
  • Plenty of SSD storage is included.
  • Pricing is fair.

Cons

  • There are no rear USB-C ports and only one at the front.
  • Armoury Crate and Corsair iCUE not installed so RGB lighting is fixed.

KitGuru says: AlphaSync Prebuilt Gaming PC is decent enough but is let down by the USB support.

Switch 2 pre-orders have now been postponed in China

10 avril 2025 à 12:15

In the wake of new tariffs put in place by Donald Trump, Nintendo quickly announced that pre-orders for the much-anticipated Switch 2 would be delayed in the USA, followed shortly by Canada. It seems more regions are set to have their pre-orders rejected, with China now also being impacted.

In a report published by Nikkei (and translated by ResetEra user Uzupedro), Nintendo has now postponed pre-orders for its Switch 2 in China – marking the 3rd region to be affected following the USA and Canada.

Interestingly, it seems as though this indefinite delay is not due to the aforementioned tariffs, with the report claiming that the move is in fact as a result of “sluggish” sales for the OG Switch in the region.

Switch 2 pre-orders

Of course, video game consumption is regulated quite heavily in China, with both the systems and games themselves being rigorously analysed by the government before business can proceed.

That being said, it wouldn’t be surprising if the tariffs added an extra spanner into the works. We will have to wait and see how Nintendo ultimately chooses to navigate this situation.

KitGuru says: What do you think of all these delays? Will the Switch 2 launch in June as expected? Will prices go up in the USA/Canada? Let us know down below.

Sony finally adds (limited) support for themes on PS5

10 avril 2025 à 11:30

Partway through the PS5’s life-cycle, the console maker announced and released the Welcome Hub – a convenient page which holds a ton of different customisable widgets. While the PS5 has yet to get any proper themes, said welcome hub offered its own suite of – rather basic – visual customisation. In a ‘welcome’ move, the Welcome Hub has gotten around a dozen new themes.

As discovered by Genki_JPN, the PS5’s Welcome Hub has been updated for some users, offering them a ton of new and cool themes.

Previously, alongside the basic backgrounds, users could apply an Astro Bot-styled animated theme. Now however, it seems Sony is looking to expand the options greatly.

Though no official announcement has been made (and is currently only available to select accounts), the PS5’s Welcome Hub has added 11 new animated themes for the following titles:

  • Days Gone
  • Demon's Souls
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Ghost of Yotei
  • God of War Ragnarok
  • Horizon: Call of the Mountain
  • Horizon: Forbidden West
  • Lego Horizon Adventures
  • Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
  • Rise of the Ronin
  • Stellar Blade

PS5 Themes

Interestingly, a number of popular PlayStation exclusive franchises are not yet represented, with contemporary games such as The Last of Us; Returnal; Helldivers II and more missing from the list.

Regardless, having more customisation in any form is welcome to see. Hopefully Sony officially announces and releases this update to all sooner rather than later.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the Welcome Hub? Is this a solid way to reintroduce themes to PlayStation? What game would you like to see get its own theme? Let us know down below.

April’s PS Plus Extra/Premium line-up includes a ton of heavy-hitters

10 avril 2025 à 10:45

Each month, Sony updates its PS Plus Extra and Premium libraries with a line-up of current and classic games. For the month of April, subscribers can get their hands on a strong selection of PlayStation titles – including Hogwarts Legacy; Blue Prince and more.

Available to add to your library in a staggered form (due to a couple day-one releases), the first PS Plus Extra title will drop on the 10th of April – that being the highest rated game of the year so far ‘Blue Prince’.

The other day-one addition is Lost Records: Bloom and Rage Tape 2, set to arrive on the 15th of April. The remainder of the library will also be added on the 15th – these titles being:

  • Hogwarts Legacy | PS4, PS5
  • EA Sports PGA Tour | PS5
  • Battlefield 1 | PS4
  • PlateUp! | PS4, PS5
  • Alone in the Dark 2 | PS4, PS5 [Premium]
  • War of the Monsters | PS4, PS5 [Premium]

PS Plus Extra

Of course, easily the biggest game in the list is Hogwarts Legacy, with the 2023 title going on to push over 34 million copies – putting it right behind Breath of the Wild as one of the best-selling games of all time.

Beyond this, Lost Records: Bloom and Rage Tape 2 is the second half of DONTNODs most recent choice-based adventure title; with Blue Price currently sitting as the highest rated game of 2025 so far.

All in all, April seems to mark a strong month for PS Plus subscribers. Hopefully PlayStation manages to keep this up for the rest of the year.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this month’s line-up? Will you check out Blue Prince? Let us know down below.

The Last of Us Season 3 announced ahead of Season 2 premiere

10 avril 2025 à 10:00

The Last of Us Season 2 is almost upon us, with reviews for the second series matching the heights of the first. With a little under a week to go until the show’s premiere, HBO has already renewed The Last of Us for a 3rd Season.

Making the announcement on Instagram, the official Naughty Dog page confirmed that a Season 3 of HBO’s The Last of Us has been greenlit, writing: “It can’t be for nothing. Season 3 is coming. #TheLastOfUs.”

As mentioned, ahead of its premiere, reviews for the full Season have gone live, with a Rotten Tomato score almost matching that of Season 1 (92% vs 94%).

The Last of us Season 3

Regardless, a 3rd Season was likely to happen as the upcoming Season 2 was already confirmed to be just one part of the second game’s story. Still, this announcement seems to indicate a level of confidence in Naughty Dog and The Last of Us from HBO.

It will be interesting to see what fans think when Season 2 premieres on the 13th of April.

KitGuru says: Are you looking forward to Season 2? How do you think they’ve split up the story? Should it follow the same pacing as the game? Let us know your thoughts down below.

watchOS also rumored to get visionOS design elements

watchOS 12 could see some visionOS-inspired design changes according to a new rumor, but the unreliable source also shares the unlikely possibility that Apple Intelligence will also come to the platform.

A new rumor claims the Apple Watch will gain support for Apple Intelligence, along with a visionOS-inspired design.

For well over a year, we've heard all sorts of rumors saying the iPhone operating system would take stylistic cues from visionOS. Though multiple less-than-credible sources believed this would happen with iOS 18, it never did. Recently, however, other leakers have said a visionOS-style redesign would instead debut with iOS 19 and macOS 16.

Now, a report publication The Verifier, spotted by MacRumors, claims that watchOS 12 will receive the same visual treatment. The Apple Watch will reportedly contain user interface elements heavily inspired by the Apple Vision Pro operating system, with semi-transparent and revamped menus, icons, and more.

Trump blinks: Floats suggestion that Apple might get a tariff exemption

In a press gaggle, President Donald Trump said that some companies that have been hit the hardest by the blockbuster tariffs applied by the administration may get some relief — and nobody has been or will be hit harder than Apple.

It has been a rollercoaster week as President Trump finally enacted global "reciprocal" tariffs in an attempt to either bring manufacturing to the United States or be used as a negotiating tactic to lower other country's tariffs. The administration retaliated against China on Wednesday morning with a 104% tariff, then increased that tariff to 125%, and lowered every other tariff to the base 10% for 90 days.

Apple's stock bounced back slightly on the news of the pause, but after the market close, President Trump suggested that some companies may be considered for an exemption. He previously stated there would be no exemptions outside of the ones outlined already on "Liberation Day," but like with the global tariffs, he's changed his mind, citing "flexibility."

Apple's shares had a good day on Wednesday

Tuesday's stock market activity saw Apple close the day at $172.87, down more than 5%. This gave it a bad starting point for Wednesday, with the prospect of more pain to come.

Following some negative pre-market trading down to around $169, which came back up to $172.18, Apple enjoyed a brief $3 boost at the start of the day.
