Mario Kart World, Fantasy Life and Cyberpunk dominate Switch 2 launch

23 juillet 2025 à 18:30

We recently heard that many third-party games struggled during the Switch 2 launch period, as Mario Kart World seemed to eat up the bulk of game sales. Now, we have data for the best performing Switch 2 titles in June, with Mario Kart World, Fantasy Life I and Cyberpunk 2077 leading the way.

Newzoo has released its analysis for Switch 2 sales in June, the same month the new console launched. According to their data, Mario Kart World ate up 34% of eShop revenue in June, followed by Fantasy Life I at 23%, and Cyberpunk 2077 with a modest 10% share. Funnily enough, the Switch 2 Welcome Tour, a paid-for instruction manual, cracked the top 5, generating 6% of the eShop revenue in June.

Looking at Monthly Active Users, Mario Kart World also led the way with the most players, followed by Fortnite, Mario Kart 8, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It is impressive that the Mario Kart World MAU managed to beat out legacy titles like Mario Kart 8, Fortnite and Animal Crossing, which already have huge player bases thanks to their wide availability on Switch 1. Mario Kart World is a Switch 2 exclusive, giving it a much smaller pool of players to sell to.

In terms of ‘Digital Only' games, Deltarune was the surprising #1 game on the eShop. The new title from Undertale creator, Toby Fox, recently had a huge update that adds more chapters to the game. The final chapters are expected next year. The Switch 2 Welcome Tour slots into the #2 spot, followed by Mario Kart World, Minecraft and No Man's Sky.

KitGuru Says: Have you had the chance to test out a Switch 2 yet? I've been re-experiencing Breath of the Wild and Pokémon Scarlet on one recently and the upgrade is massive. Hopefully more first-party titles get Switch 2 updates soon.

Borderlands 4 gets October release date for Switch 2

23 juillet 2025 à 18:00

We already knew that Borderlands 4 would be launching for PC, PS5 and Xbox in September, but a highly anticipated Switch 2 version of the game still had no date. As it turns out, the Switch version won't be releasing too far behind the other platforms.

On PC, PS5 and Xbox, Borderlands 4 will be available on the 12th of September. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will release a few weeks later, on the 3rd of October.

Borderlands 4 takes players to a brand new planet, Kairos, which is ruled by a dictator known as Timekeeper. The game features new Vault Hunter classes, and a whole host of new weapon types, including:

  • Order guns focus on precision with high-powered bursts
  • Ripper guns charge up to go fully automatic
  • Daedalus guns are easy-to-use and incorporate multiple ammo types
  • Tediore guns are reloaded by tossing them as grenades
  • Maliwan guns specialize in elemental damage to burn, freeze, and shock
  • Jakobs guns can fire bullets as fast as you can shoot with ricochets on critical hits
  • Vladof guns have a high rate of fire and huge magazines
  • Torgue guns have heavy-duty explosive rounds that can switch to sticky projectiles.

Gearbox has also made improvements to looting, making farming for coveted gear “much more intuitive”. Players will be able to replay missions as many times as required to obtain certain drops, or you can use the Big Encore Machine to replay specific boss fights.

That is about everything we know about the game so far. We expect to learn more in the weeks leading up to launch.

KitGuru Says: Are any of you looking forward to Borderlands 4?

Microsoft comes to its senses – will no longer charge $80 for The Outer Worlds 2

23 juillet 2025 à 17:00

The Outer Worlds was a big deal at the time for being the biggest in a wave of ‘budget' AAA games that aimed to prove that you could still make quality games with a smaller team by sticking to a strict scope. The Outer Worlds 2 was developed under a similar mindset so it came as a shock when Microsoft announced plans to charge a whopping $80 for the sequel, a decision that is now being reversed.

The Outer Worlds 2 will no longer cost $80 when it releases on October 29th. It is unclear what sparked the change, but perhaps pre-order numbers had them spooked. The new price of $70 is still a significant jump from the original game, but it isn't quite as unexpected as the jump to $80 was.

Speaking on the change, an Xbox spokesperson said that the price change was to bring the game “in line with current market conditions”, which sounds about right. Everyone was quick to point out that The Outer Worlds 2 was not the best test case for this new $80 price point considering the smaller-scope titles Obsidian is known for.

The Outer Worlds 2 will release on October 29th and will not be an Xbox console exclusive at launch. The game will be available on PC, Xbox and PS5 on day-one. No Nintendo Switch 2 version has been announced yet, but Nintendo reportedly has a backlog of devkit requests, so it is quite likely that Obsidian doesn't have the necessary hardware yet.

KitGuru Says: Are you looking forward to The Outer Worlds 2? Will you be buying it, or getting it through Game Pass?

Battlefield 6 will release in October, priced at $80 on console but $70 on PC

23 juillet 2025 à 16:00

We're still 24 hours away from the official reveal of Battlefield 6, but a leak has already revealed crucial details. Battlefield 6 is targeting an October launch, with a beta to take place in a few weeks' time.

Reputable leaker, billbil-kun, who is well known for his datamining abilities, consistently leading to release date leaks, as well as early reveals for upcoming free games for services like PlayStation Plus. According to their latest post on Dealabs, Battlefield 6 will be releasing on the 10th of October.

It is also expected that Battlefield 6 will be the first game in the series to cost $80 for the standard edition – on consoles at least. PC players will get a reduced $70 price instead. That discount also applies to the deluxe edition of the game, which will be $110 on console, and $100 on PC.

There is speculation about Battlefield 6 getting a Switch 2 release, but nothing has been announced at this time. Players will get their first official taste of Battlefield 6 in August, when beta testing is set to begin. EA will make all of this official when the reveal trailer drops tomorrow afternoon.

KitGuru Says: Battlefield 6 is coming out much earlier than expected. Considering DICE has been publicly testing parts of the game since February, maybe this time around they'll finally succeed in having a smooth launch.

Saber Interactive reveals Hellraiser Revival for PC and consoles

23 juillet 2025 à 15:30

Saber Interactive is juggling a lot, from ongoing work on the Warhammer IP, to long-term projects like the KOTOR Remake. Recently, Saber Interactive announced its latest title – Hellraiser Revival.

Clive Barker's Hellraiser Revival is a new video game developed by Saber Interactive and based on the Hellraiser IP. Barker, the creator of Hellraiser, has helped with planning out the game's story. You can get an early look at Hellraiser Revival in the trailer below:

The game follows main protagonist, Aidan, who must unlock a puzzle box to save his girlfriend from a hellish abyss. You'll obtain powerful abilities along the way in order to survive Pinhead and the cult that worships him.

Saber Interactive CEO, Matthew Karch, expressed excitement for the game, calling Hellraiser “the quintessential horror franchise”, adding that working with Clive had been “a real treat”.

The game does not have a release date yet, but it is available to wishlist on Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

KitGuru Says: Are you a fan of Hellraiser? Will you be picking up the game when it lands?

Splitgate 2 is ‘unlaunching’ to undergo rework, Splitgate 1 is shutting down

23 juillet 2025 à 14:30

1047 Games faced some bad PR this summer after the CEO of the company made some questionable statements, before revealing an underwhelming Battle Royale mode for Splitgate 2. Now months later, Splitgate 2 is ‘unlaunching', moving back to beta, and the studio is downsizing.

1047 Games is removing Splitgate 2 from sale in order to rework the game. In an open letter, 1047 Games co-founders, Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian, admit that the game “launched too early” and that it needs more time in the oven.

Splitgate 2 in itself was supposed to be a new and improved sequel building on the foundation of the original game. However, the launch was underwhelming, so it will be interesting to see how much of a difference an extra year or so in development could make.

Splitgate 2 will go back to beta and be reworked for a relaunch in 2026. However, there will also be a smaller team working on the game moving forward. Alongside these announcements, 1047 Games also said that it will “reduce certain roles and shift [our] resources” to focus on the rework.

If you were hoping to go back and play Splitgate 1 in the meantime, then you are out of luck. Apparently, keeping the original game's servers up has been costing the studio ‘hundreds of thousands' of dollars, so Splitgate 1 will be taken offline in August.

KitGuru Says: Did you play Splitgate 2 at all? How do you feel about the game going back to beta?

Live-action ‘A Plague Tale’ adaptation is still in the works

23 juillet 2025 à 13:00

There’s been a bit of trend with live action adaptations of video games, with many of them being announced and seemingly subsequently forgotten. One such adaptation is A Plague Tale. Announced back in 2022, we’ve heard nothing from the project since. That said, the series head has now teased the show for the first time in years.

For the uninitiated, A Plague Tale: Innocence was a stealth-horror story-focused game from Asobo Studios. Released back in 2019, the game garnered strong praise – leading to the release of a sequel (A Plague Tale: Requiem) in 2022.

Around the same time, it was officially announced that a live-action adaptation was greenlit, with the show’s director – Mathieu Turi – at the time writing: “It’s official! I’m honored to work on the adaptation as a TV series of [A Plague Tale]. Thank you to [Asobo Studio] and [Focus Entertainment] for their trust. I can’t wait to bring Amicia and Hugo’s journey to the screen!”

A Plague Tale Adaptation

As mentioned however, since then there has been little to no news on the project, leading many to believe it had been quietly cancelled. As with the Netflix Assassin’s Creed show however, it appears as though the team just needed more time to cook.

Though barely an update, Turi recently took to Twitter to post three rat emojis – clearly hinting that ‘A Plague Tale’ is still alive and kicking.

It is worth noting that Mathieu Turi is currently working on the Watch Dogs film adaptation, which is likely the reason for there being no news regarding his other project.

All that said, it is encouraging to know that the Plague Tale show is still in the works. The games it is based on are both steeped in story, lore and atmosphere – all things which could easily be translated to live-action…assuming it’s done well. We will likely still have to wait quite a while to find out.

Puzzle-focused ‘Pokémon Friends’ available now on Mobile and Switch

23 juillet 2025 à 12:00

As they do on a regular basis, The Pokémon Company recently hosted their latest Pokémon Presents showcase, giving fans a look at all the various upcoming video games based on the ever-popular IP. Alongside updates on the likes of Pokémon Z-A and Champions, a brand new puzzle game for Switch and iOS/Android was announced: Pokémon Friends.

Officially unveiled during the most recent Pokémon Presents showcase, Pokémon Friends is a “plush-filled puzzle adventure packed with charming challenges!”

Available right now on iOS, Android as well as the Nintendo Switch (and its successor) Pokémon Friends features a ton of different and varied puzzles – clearly inspired by the abundance of similarly-styled puzzle games which have been available on mobile devices for years.

Still, as with most things Pokémon, this latest game has that added charm which may be enough to entice both fans of the genre as well as fans of the Pokémon series itself to give it a whirl.

With over 1200 puzzles, Pokémon Friends should offer plenty to chew on. That said, while the game is a free-to-start experience (at least on mobile), there are a few rather pricey in-app purchases, namely:

  • £9.99 – Basic Pack (unlimited plays + new puzzles, plushies and ‘features’)
  • £14.99 – Puzzle On! Pack #1 (New puzzles, plushies and wallpapers)
  • £14.99 – Puzzle On! Pack #2 (New puzzles, plushies and wallpapers)
  • £34.99 – Combo Bundle (Featuring all of the above)

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has finally surpassed 5 million total players

23 juillet 2025 à 11:15

Ubisoft was betting big on Assassin’s Creed Shadows, with the latest entry in the RPG-styled AC titles launching back in March following delays and some content retooling. While the open world title started off strong, sales have plateaued a bit since, with the game currently sitting at 5 million total players.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Assassin’s Creed page shared this latest milestone, writing:

“5 MILLION ASSASSINS

  • 2B stealth kills
  • 1B km traveled
  • 38M animals petted

…and still, you paused to take in the view. Thank you for forging legends with us. Naoe & Yasuke’s journey continues—updates coming this week!”

As always, it is worth noting that 5 million players does not equate to 5 million copies sold, especially as Shadows has been available on Ubisoft’s subscription service since launch.

Shadows 5 million

That said, 5 million players is still a milestone achievement, even if it took them some time to get there. For context, AC: Shadows was confirmed to have surpassed 1 million total players on its first day. This number then grew to 2 million after roughly 72 hours. Finally, the most recent update prior to this latest announcement was confirmation that the game had surpassed 3 million players within a week on sale.

Given that it has since taken a further 4 months to reach 5 million players, excitement toward Assassin’s Creed Shadows has certainly waned.

Of course, Ubisoft has promised to offer plenty of free and paid additions in the future – including parkour enhancements, a co-op mode and extra features. Whether these updates will entice more players to give Shadows a go, we will have to continue to wait and see. With Ghost of Yotei only a couple months away however, who knows.

Battlefield 6 reveal goes live tomorrow

23 juillet 2025 à 10:30

Following years of somewhat disappointing releases, the Battlefield series looks to be trying to make a big comeback with its upcoming Battlefield 6. While we’ve seen plenty from the game already thanks to numerous ‘Lab’ playtests, EA/DICE are set to finally give us our first proper look at Battlefield 6 tomorrow.

Taking to YouTube, the official Battlefield page published a teaser for their upcoming ‘Battlefield 6 Official Reveal Trailer’, writing: “Prepare for the ultimate all-out warfare experience in Battlefield 6.”

Set to go live on the 24th of July (tomorrow) at 4PM BST, the teaser for the trailer gives us a look at what may be the game’s main promotional / box art – clearly putting emphasis on both environmental destruction and the series’ popular squad mechanics.

That said, despite us being just one day away from our first proper look at Battlefield 6, it appears as though many of the game’s mechanics are still up in the air, with EA confirming recently that the upcoming open beta will include multiple playlists featuring different core mechanics – such as with the class system.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see how Battlefield 6 looks and plays outside of the aforementioned playtests. Given the fact that EA hopes to amass over 100 million players with the upcoming title, it had better be a pretty impressive trailer.

WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers Review – Unleash the Madness

23 juillet 2025 à 04:00

WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers

Soulike games are truly everywhere nowadays. Back when FromSoftware's Souls series did not have the immense popularity it enjoys nowadays, the release of any game inspired by the series was an event in itself. However, today's increased offerings for hardcore action RPGs have led to some stagnation for the genre. While many Souslike games released in the past few years are solid games, very few of them are true standouts, as the vast majority of these games opt to stay within the boundaries of a tried and true formula that is starting to get a little tiring. In this regard, […]

Elgato brings 4K60 game capture to the masses with cross-platform Game Capture 4K S

22 juillet 2025 à 17:00

Elgato has a new launch heading our way. Today, the new Game Capture 4K S was announced, a new external capture solution built to deliver class-leading gameplay recording and sharing capabilities.

The Game Capture 4K S is the successor to Elgato's best-selling capture device, the HD60 X. The new external device delivers 4K/60FPS capture, zero-latency passthrough, and near-zero software preview delay. Even high-intensity titles play without lag on a dedicated gaming display, while in-app capture previews respond with as little as 30ms of latency on capable setups, which is smooth enough for most single-screen workflows.

The Game Capture 4K S is a cross-device solution as well, enabling game capture from Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as Nintendo's latest system, the Switch 2. Elgato has also kept up with its commitment to supporting iOS, with compatibility for USB-C iPads.

If you'd prefer to capture at an even higher frame rate, then the Elgato Game Capture 4K S has you covered there too. You can swap from 4K/60 to 1080p at up to 240FPS, or capture 1440p gameplay at up to 120FPS.

Launching alongside 4K S is Elgato Studio, the company’s brand-new capture application slated to replace 4KCU in coming months. Designed to simplify the recording process, the app detects 4K S instantly and offers ultra-low preview latency, minimal system load during recording, and essential features like a snapshot tool to capture memorable moments for social media or video thumbnails. Creators can adjust 4K S settings and experiment with beta features directly in the software, whether they’re just starting out or producing content at scale.

The Elgato Game Capture 4K S will be available soon, priced at $159.99.

Samsung reportedly rejected joint-foundry proposal from Nvidia in 2018

22 juillet 2025 à 16:00

Back in 2018, Nvidia underwent a big shift towards AI, a bet that has massively paid off in recent years, cementing the company's position at the top of the tech industry. As it turns out, Nvidia CEO, Jensen Huang, may have wanted to bring Samsung along for the ride with a series of rejected proposals.

According to a new report from South Korean news outlet, MK, and translated by Jukan, Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, held a secret meeting with Samsung in 2018. Huang proposed that Nvidia and Samsung enter joint endeavours to push HBM, Foundry services and CUDA. The deal would have seen Nvidia and Samsung jointly developing foundry technologies beyond 8nm, which was Samsung's most advanced process technology at the time and was used on the first GeForce RTX graphics chips.

The report claims that due to the ‘political environment' at the time, Samsung did not take Nvidia up on the offer. Samsung still has a good place in Foundry, but TSMC is the dominant force and has eaten up most of the major clientele, like Nvidia, AMD and Apple – even Intel uses TSMC foundry services from time to time.

Nobody at Nvidia or Samsung have confirmed that these discussions took place officially, but if this report is accurate, then there is a fascinating story to be told here. With the benefit of hindsight, we can look at this now and wonder why on earth Samsung would reject a deeper partnership with Nvidia. However, at the time, Samsung was undergoing scrutiny in its home country of South Korea, as the company's Vice Chairman at the time, Lee Jae-yong, was undergoing a legal battle the time. It is speculated that this is the negative ‘political environment' that held Samsung back from pursuing talks further.

Killing Floor 3 and four other games get DLSS upgrades this week

22 juillet 2025 à 15:00

This week sees the launch of Killing Floor 3 and WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, two new titles launching with day-one support for DLSS 4. Alongside the latest DLSS titles, Nvidia has also rolled out a new GeForce Game Ready driver.

A new Game Ready driver is now available. Once updated, your GeForce-powered gaming PC will be able to utilise the full benefits of features like DLSS, Multi-Frame Generation, DLAA, Reflex and more. The Nvidia App is also getting an update to enable DLSS Override functionality in 11 more games, so if a game hasn't been updated, you can force a game to use the latest DLSS model for better visual and performance results.

Below is the list of games getting DLSS updates this week:

  • Killing Floor 3:  This intense first-person shooter puts players in the role of a Nightfall specialist, joining forces with up to five teammates as they battle through unrelenting waves of Zeds, unlocking new skills, and building the ultimate arsenal. When Killing Floor 3 launches July 24th, GeForce RTX gamers can accelerate performance by activating DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, DLSS Frame Generation, and DLSS Super Resolution. Alternatively, max out image quality with DLAA. Players can also maximise gameplay responsiveness with NVIDIA Reflex.

  • WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers: A soulslike action RPG set in the land of Shu during the dark and tumultuous late Ming Dynasty. When the game is released on July 24th, it will include support for DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution, and NVIDIA Reflex.

  • The First Descendant: Ahead of season 3, players can get a preview of the Breakthrough update and its new gameplay features starting July 24th when a sneak peek in-game demo arrives. This update also introduces game-wide support for DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, DLAA, Reflex, and several ray-traced effects.

  • Wildgate: A PVP multiplayer shooter that blends tactical ship-to-ship combat with fast-paced first-person action. When Wildgate is released on July 22nd, GeForce RTX gamers can activate DLSS Super Resolution, leveraging the newest transformer AI model.

  • Valorant: On July 29th, a new game update will upgrade Valorant to Unreal Engine 5, introducing additional content and changes.

New mod recreates original Fallout as a first-person shooter

22 juillet 2025 à 14:00

The popularity of Fallout exploded when Bethesda acquired the IP and shifted it away from its isometric roots and into an open-world shooter. The Isometric view point can be off putting to many who did not grow up in the golden age of CRPGs and as a result, few have gone back to experience the original Fallout games. That may change soon thanks to one ambitious mod.

Modder Alexander Berezin has been hard at work on Fallout: Bakersfield, a remake of the original Fallout 1 story, but set up as a DOOM style shooter, rather than a daunting CRPG.

As reported by Insider Gaming, the mod is said to be around 60% complete at this stage but there is no concrete release date or window, as is often the case with fan-led projects like this. The latest trailer for the game gives us a good look at what to expect, but there is still a lot of work to be done.

Fallout: Bakersfield was first announced in 2022, but game development is never a linear endeavour, so while it took two years to get to the ‘60% done' stage, that doesn't mean that it will only take another year or so to complete.

KitGuru Says: This mod looks fantastic judging by the latest trailer. If it gets more people to experience the original Fallout story, then I'm all for it.

MSI MPG B850I Edge Ti Wi-Fi Review

22 juillet 2025 à 14:59
MSI is a little late to the SFF party, but alongside higher end Intel and AMD options, it comes in swinging with a solid Mini-ITX AMD B850 motherboard for $250. With one or two quirks, does it stack up to similarly-priced and more established competition?
