  • Lidl-Trek’s team tactics work to perfection after sprint
  • Pogacar maintains firm grip at head of overall standings

Jonathan Milan of Lidl-Trek maintained his excellent form at the Giro d’Italia to win stage 13 in a sprint finish, the Italian’s third stage victory. His team’s tactics worked perfectly, leading him out into the last kilometre with Milan well placed in second as they rounded the final bend.

It initially looked as if Fernando Gaviria would grab the win as he took to the front, but Milan showed why he is the points classification leader as he pounced late on, with Poland’s Stanislaw Aniolkowski finishing strongly in second and Phil Bauhaus third.

  • Frenchman shakes off 10-strong breakaway to win in Fano
  • No change for Pogacar at top of the general classification

Julian Alaphilippe’s early break paid off as the Soudal Quick-Step rider bravely held off the chasers to win stage 12 of the Giro d’Italia.

The 193km ride from Martinsicuro to Fano on the Adriatic coast featured enough climbs to give a chance to those willing to risk attacking and deny the sprinters another stage win, and Alaphilippe’s tactics paid off. The Frenchman joined a breakaway group that grew to 10 riders with 130 km to race, but then took off along with Mirco Maestri of the Polti Kometa team, and the pair held off a large chasing pack behind them.

Court order compelled Google subsidiary to block local access to 32 videos of Glory to Hong Kong judged to be prohibited content

Alphabet’s YouTube on Tuesday said it would comply with a court decision and block access inside Hong Kong to 32 video links deemed prohibited content, in what critics say is a blow to freedoms in the financial hub amid a security clampdown.

The action follows a government application granted by Hong Kong’s court of appeal requesting the ban of a protest anthem called Glory to Hong Kong. The judges warned that dissidents seeking to incite secession could weaponize the song for use against the state.

Deadly clashes have erupted over move to increase number of French nationals eligible to vote in Pacific territory

Deadly violence has erupted in New Caledonia, a French overseas territory in the South Pacific, after lawmakers in Paris approved a constitutional amendment to allow recent arrivals to the territory to vote in provincial elections.
