While the main focus is on keeping operating systems up to date, Apple does occasionally bring out updates for earlier operating system releases.

The only notable feature in watchOS 11.4 is a brand new "Break Through Silent Mode" option in Sound & Haptics. This means that if you wear your Apple Watch to bed, sound and haptics will play regardless of whether or not Silent Mode is toggled on.

Previous to this, if Silent Mode was enabled, the Apple Watch would only use haptics as part of its alarm.

Nine months after Apple revealed Apple Intelligence to the world, it has finally arrived on Apple Vision Pro. The visionOS 2.4 release also includes a new Spatial Gallery app, improvements to Guest Mode, and other bug fixes.

Apple Vision Pro has always had the capability to run Apple Intelligence thanks to the M2 processor, but Apple didn't prioritize the feature for the platform due to the small install base. Every feature currently available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac has come to Apple Vision Pro at once except for changes to Siri.

It's three months since Apple released its previous update, and over six months since the first version of macOS Sequoia came out. Usually by this stage, Apple would typically be looking to keep any major new features to the next macOS, due to be revealed at WWDC on June 9, 2025.

Doubtlessly that is still a factor, but for once each separate iteration of macOS Sequoia has been bringing new features and this latest edition is no different. The new features are not huge, though, and they are mostly not especially visual — unless you're in the EU.

How to backup your Mac

Whether it's a MacBook Pro that's always out on the road with you, or a Mac Studio that gets left in an office, your Mac holds critical data and you've got to back it up.

Apple works very hard to make it so that you don't have to consciously think which of your computers you need to use. You can start writing a sentence on your iPhone and finish it off on your Mac Pro without thought.

But that same way your data is available to you across all your devices is also a way that tricks you into thinking it's all safe. If your MacBook Pro is stolen, at least all the data is still on your office Mac, for instance.

That's not entirely wrong, but it's still dangerous. If you delete something on, say, your MacBook Air, it will be deleted everywhere.

How to backup your iPhone or iPad

It's not enough to just let your iPhone back up to iCloud, not when you need to be sure you won't lose anything important. Here are your options for backing up iOS devices.

Steve Jobs once made a point of telling an audience that he hadn't backed up in all the years he had been at NeXT. However, that wasn't because backing up is unimportant. It was because it was so important that every NeXT employee's data was automatically backed up for them.

Maybe Jobs brought that ethos to Apple, because the company has worked to progressively make backups easier - and unthinkingly so. You see this whenever you change iPhones and all of your apps, and their data, appear on the new one.

But as convenient as that is, it also makes you unthinkingly assume that your data is safe. It isn't, not unless you take positive steps - and regularly.

Apple has previously been reported to be aiming to use Indian factories to make 25% of its total iPhone manufacturing, by 2028. The expansion follows Apple and its suppliers working to reduce over-reliance on China as a sole manufacturing source.

According to The Times of India, Apple's major manufacturer Foxconn is continuing this expansion with plans to produce between 25 million and 30 million iPhones across 2025. Reportedly, Foxconn has been conducting what are described as restricted testing operations at the company's Bengaluru facility over the last three to four months.

The iPhone has benefited from a number of satellite features in recent years, with Emergency SOS via Satellite and Roadside Assistance via Satellite assisting users in trouble. However, progression to make the features even more useful with expanded coverage has hit a large roadblock.

Apple works primarily with Globalstar to power its satellite features, though it is working with SpaceX's Starlink service with T-Mobile to expand its coverage in the summer. The problem is that Elon Musk isn't happy about Apple's investments with Globalstar and in satellite communications, since it directly competes with Starlink.

Apple's folding iPad or MacBook: What to expect, and when it will ship

The idea itself is not far-fetched, with Apple's own patents indicating that the company was at least considering a foldable iPad-type device at one point. More recently, however, leakers and analysts alike have all chimed in with claims of technical specifications and supposed release dates, and they have a lot to say.

EU antitrust agency may not fine Apple much to avoid tariff war escalation

The European Union is set to fine Apple because of the App Store's claimed violations of the Digital Markets Act, but the sum will reportedly be minimal, to avoid the ire of President Donald Trump.

New EU competition chief Teresa Ribera had previously said she was open to negotiations with the White House, but the EU would not be bullied.
