Black Myth Wukong DLC set for early 2025

16 septembre 2024 à 18:20

Black Myth Wukong has quickly gone on to become one of the highest selling games of the year. With that in mind, it shouldn't be surprising to hear that the studio behind the game, Game Science, is hard at work on new content.

According to industry analyst and GI.biz alumni, Daniel Camilo, DLC for Black Myth Wukong should be coming in early 2025, around the same time as Chinese New Year. That would put a release date anywhere between late January and early February.

DLC for Black Myth Wukong will come out somewhere near the Chinese New Year, 2025.

That is, right at the end of January, or very soon after.

This is according to very reliable first hand sources I heard from.

— Daniel Camilo (@DanielOlimac) September 14, 2024

So far, the base game has sold around 20 million units, with roughly 70 percent of that number coming from sales in China. By timing the DLC around Chinese New Year, Game Science will capitalise on the time off and renewed national pride. That last part is particularly important, as a number of Chinese businesses supported the game's initial launch by giving employees time off to play it.

Currently, Black Myth Wukong is only available on PC and PS5. An Xbox Series X/S version of the game remains in development.

Valve still working on Deadlock anti-cheat, will manually moderate reports for now

16 septembre 2024 à 18:00

After months of the game being an open secret, Valve finally opened up Deadlock to more players in August, expanding the invite system and sending concurrent player counts soaring. Unfortunately, that level of attention for the game has also attracted cheaters, an issue that Valve is now working fast to try and tackle.

The Deadlock pre-alpha has been invaded by cheaters and their numbers have unfortunately been left to grow for several weeks. This is due to the fact that Deadlock's anti-cheat isn't ready yet, but the developers are actively working on it.

In the meantime, players will need to manually report players suspected of cheating through the game's official Discord server, and then a moderator will take a closer look at it.

It isn't an ideal situation for a game that has rapidly grown to house over 100,000 players at a time. However, it is also worth remembering that Deadlock is not ready for release yet and is still in early development, which is something Valve has been very upfront about.

KitGuru Says: Have you encountered issues with any cheaters in Deadlock in the past few weeks?

Starfield: Shattered Space trailer delivers long-awaited deep dive into the expansion

16 septembre 2024 à 17:15

It has been a year since Starfield first came out and while the game has had some significant updates since then, we're still awaiting the first big drop of new content. The wait is coming to an end later this month with the launch of Shattered Space, and Bethesda has now dropped the deep dive trailer, giving us our best look yet at what's to come.

In the deep dive trailer, Shattered Space developers, including the Design Director, Creative Lead, Art Director and others discuss the direction of the expansion, and how it all ended up coming to life:

Shattered Space, @StarfieldGame‘s first story expansion, is mere weeks away.

In this deep dive, hear from the expansion's Design Director, Creative Lead, Art Director, and others on the team to learn about how it was created and what you can expect when it releases on September… pic.twitter.com/0kJEtzcywC

— Bethesda Game Studios (@BethesdaStudios) September 16, 2024

The Shattered Space expansion promises to put players “on a path to Va'ruun'kai”, where we will “uncover the secrets surrounding the followers of the Great Serpent and ultimately decide the future of House Va'ruun”. This is particularly exciting to those who followed the Andreja romance plotline in the base game, as you'll be more familiar with the strict ways of House Va-ruun and the secrecy surrounding the entire cult.

Starfield Shattered Space launches on the 30th of September for Xbox Series X/S and PC.

KitGuru Says: I'm looking forward to jumping back into Starfield for this. The idea behind House Va'ruun seems like it could go in very different directions compared to Bethesda's past faction questlines.

Sony to stick with AMD for next-gen PlayStation 6 processor

16 septembre 2024 à 16:30

It wasn't too long ago that we first began hearing that Intel was in talks to provide chips for next-gen home consoles from the likes of Microsoft and Sony. However, it appears that both sides will be moving forward with their continued partnerships with AMD. A new report this week claims that disputes over price and backwards compatibility led to the end of Sony's talks with Intel for the PlayStation 6.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, Reuters reports that after a bidding period, Sony has now landed on AMD for its next-generation SoC for the PlayStation 6. The console, which has been in the planning phases since 2022, is widely expected sometime in 2028, although some analysts estimate an earlier 2027 launch date for next-gen consoles. That may be too quick of a turnaround for the PlayStation 6 given that Sony just announced the PS5 Pro this week.

The Reuters report claims that backwards compatibility was a big part of the reason behind Sony's decision to stick with AMD, and it is even hinted that the PlayStation 6 will have its own dedicated backwards compatibility chip, reminiscent of the original PlayStation 3, which housed a secondary processor for running PS2 games. However, I am unsure why the PS6 would need such a chip, given that most games nowadays are built to carry over to future generations of hardware.

Sony is expecting a big year for the PS5 in 2025, aided largely by the impending launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, a game that is sure to get those still on PS4 to make the jump to the current generation hardware.

KitGuru Says: I would have been very surprised if either next-gen console from Sony or Microsoft packed non-AMD hardware. Similarly, I think we'd be surprised if Nintendo moved away from Nvidia after the success of the Switch.

AMD EPYC 4124P CPU overclocked to 6.7GHz on a B650E motherboard

Par : João Silva
16 septembre 2024 à 09:26

For those who don't know, AMD EPYC 4004 series CPUs are physically identical to the Ryzen 9000/7000 series, using the same AM5 socket as the consumer processors. As such, it was just a matter of time before enthusiasts started using these processors on 600-series motherboards and testing their overclocking capabilities.

The EPYC 4004 processors feature the same configuration as the consumer Raphael series, with up to 16 Zen 4 cores and a TDP of 170W. Although AMD doesn't officially support overclocking on these processors, overclockers have discovered a way to overclock them on consumer motherboards that support overclocking (such as X670E and B650). This gives them access to all overclocking tools and unlocks the full capability of CPUs that were never designed for this purpose.

Overclockers have focused their attention on the EPYC 4124P, in particular. It is the only quad-core processor, and it has no direct equivalent in the consumer Ryzen series. It starts at 3.8 GHz and can go up to 5.1 GHz. It is also a 65W TDP CPU priced at just £150/$150/€150.

Overclockers have submitted several test runs of this CPU on HWBot (via HXL). The fastest EPYC 4124P (achieved by sergmann) was clocked at 6.7 GHz, running on a Gigabyte Aorus B650E Tachyon and DDR5-8000 memory. With this overclock, we saw the EPYC 4124P scoring an impressive 82,943 MIPS, making it the highest 4-core score on this benchmark.

KitGuru says: If the EPYC 4124P is already in the hands of overclockers, it shouldn't take long before other EPYC 4004 processors start showing up on HWBot. Do you think any of these CPUs will break a new record?

New eight-core Ryzen AI ‘Zen 5’ APU spotted

Par : João Silva
16 septembre 2024 à 15:00

The release of the AMD Ryzen AI 300 Pro series should be just around the corner, with rumours pointing to October 10th as the release date. Lenovo has already unveiled laptops powered by the upcoming Ryzen Pro CPUs, confirming the arrival of the first SKU in the upcoming lineup. This SKU is the Ryzen AI 7 Pro 360, and contrary to what some might have thought, it will feature an 8-core configuration.

The Ryzen AI 7 Pro 360 is expected to feature eight cores and sixteen threads, with a likely configuration of 4x Zen5 and 4x Zen5c cores, as inferred from the Geekbench results (via VideoCardz). Meanwhile, the notable distinction between the Ryzen AI 7 Pro 360 and the Krackan chip lies in their integrated graphics. The former is expected to come with a Radeon 880M iGPU with 12x RDNA 3.5 CUs, while the latter might be marketed with a Radeon 860M and 8x RDNA 3.5 CUs.

In terms of performance, the Ryzen AI 7 Pro 360 has been seen undergoing tests in the Geekbench AI benchmark, particularly in the OpenVINO CPU framework test, achieving scores of 3111 in single precision, 3244 in half precision, and a 9074 quantized score. In comparison, the single and half precision scores are about 10% higher than an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H, and the quantized score is about 20% higher than the same Intel CPU.

We already know of at least one laptop that will feature the upcoming AMD Ryzen AI 7 Pro 360: the Lenovo ThinkPad T14S Gen 6. However, the release date has yet to be officially confirmed by both Lenovo and AMD. Based on the latest rumours, the Ryzen AI 300 Pro series is expected to come out on October 10th.

KitGuru says: It would seem that new Ryzen AI series processors are just around the corner.

Sonic Mania devs undergo lay-offs due to “volatile market conditions”

16 septembre 2024 à 14:15

Over the past year, we have seen a complete exodus in the games industry, with many studios. teams and thousands of game devs all being let go or made redundant. This trend is unfortunately far from slowing down, with the latest announcement of lay-offs coming for the team behind the much-loved Sonic Mania and Penny’s Big Breakaway.

Making the announcement on Twitter, Hunter Bridges – the CTO at Evening Star Studios – stated the following:
“Unfortunately, due to volatile market conditions in the games industry and operational realities of our business, Evening Star is having to part ways with 6 team members from our Penny’s Big Breakaway development team.”

Bridges continued, “This isn’t a choice we wanted to make, as they are all very talented and valued individuals. But for now, we want to do all we can to help them land on their feet. If you have need for any of this talent on your team (spanning art, engineering, design and production) please reach out. I am happy to provide referrals and sing their praises!”

While we do not have an exact figure for how many devs worked at Evening Star, the studio is a relatively new and small team, and so 6 members is no small departure.

Penny’s Big Breakaway was an excellent game featuring buttery smooth controls and movement, and represents one of the best new 3D platformers in a long time. As such, it is a shame to see that the studio has had to resort to such redundancies. Hopefully the game picks up steam over time.

KitGuru says: Have you played Penny’s Big Breakaway? What did you think? How can the team at Evening Star stay afloat? Let us know down below.

Astro Bot becomes the fastest-selling plaformer of the past decade (aside from Mario)

16 septembre 2024 à 13:30

Astro Bot marks the latest and greatest first-party exclusive from Sony, with the PS5 title launching earlier this month to universal acclaim from both critics and players alike. Despite being a relatively new IP, Astro Bot’s first proper game is already outpacing many of its contemporaries – becoming the fastest-selling plaformer of the past decade (aside from Mario).

Last week, we reported on Astro Bot’s launch sales in the UK, revealing that the 3D platformer had performed 21% better than the latest Ratchet and Clank title – a decent start for the relatively new IP.

Now however, we have gotten more concrete details, revealing an even more impressive feat – with Christopher Dring of Gamesindustry.biz saying ”Astro Bot's week 1 in the UK is bigger than Sonic Frontiers' and Crash 4's debut, and they're multiplatform.”

Adding further proof of its success, Dring continued, “Astro is the fastest selling original platform game outside of Mario from the last 10 years. Bigger than Sonic, Crash, Yoshi, Kirby…”

As with Mario games, hopefully Astro Bot will have a long shelf life, with new and old PS5 owners alike picking up the game over the coming years.

Regardless, Astro Bot’s early success seems to prove that there is space and demand in the 3D platformer genre – it just needed a genuinely great non-Mario game to prove this.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Astro Bot so far? Could it be the next big thing? Will Astro Bot ever do Mario numbers? Let us know down below.

Kojima announces Death Stranding 2 showcase for later this month

16 septembre 2024 à 12:15

Prior to the start of Gamescom, Hideo Kojima began to tease Death Stranding 2 once again, leading many to believe that the game would show up at Geoff Keighley’s then-upcoming industry showcase. This did not come to be, however, it appears as though the teaser was in fact leading up to a TGS announcement, as PlayStation is set to introduce “DEATH STRANDING 2 Special Stage with Hideo Kojima and Daichi Miura.”

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Kojima Productions page shared the following: “PlayStation Presents ‘DEATH STRANDING 2’ Special Stage confirmed for Tokyo Game Show 2024! Hideo Kojima and Daichi Miura will host the event and talk about ‘DEATH STRANDING 2’ with a splendid lineup of guests. Our first time on stage in 5 years, please enjoy!”

For the uninitiated, Daichi Miura is a well-known Japanese singer-songwriter whose music covers a range of genres. Most likely, his presence at the showcase indicates his involvement with the DS2’s score/soundtrack – though we will have to wait for the event to officially find out.

The music in Death Stranding was a core part of the overall experience, and was used excellently during pivotal moments. Hopefully the sequel is able to capture the same vibes.

Ubisoft leaks Assassin’s Creed Syndicate 60fps patch

16 septembre 2024 à 11:30

Since the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S back in late 2020, we have seen Ubisoft update many of its Assassin’s Creed titles to support 60fps of the now-current-gen consoles. Oddly, one of the primary titles to not get updated was Assassin’s Creed Syndicate – though this appears to be changing soon.

In a now deleted tweet by the official Ubisoft LATAM  page, the publisher appeared to tease an upcoming 60fps patch for AC Syndicate, saying:

“Which Assassin’s Creed game have you played the most? (Maybe Syndicate will take first place with the new update that brings 60FPS).”

As mentioned, this tweet has since been deleted, but as with most deleted announcements, it is most likely to have gone live earlier than expected – more so than the entire tweet/announcement being false.

As mentioned, many AC games received 60fps updates since the start of the 9th generation, including AC Odyssey and AC Origins. Syndicate also got a PS5 update, but mainly to fix issues with backwards compatibility.

With Syndicate seemingly next in line to get a proper 60fps update, it will be interesting to see whether Ubisoft plans to go all the way back and enhance every AC title with such functionality. We will have to wait and see, but Syndicate being playable at 60fps is certainly a welcome improvement regardless.

KitGuru says: Have you played AC Syndicate? What did you think? Which AC title would you like to see get an upgrade the most? Let us know down below.

Sony to expand GT7 further with newer, more realistic driving AI

16 septembre 2024 à 10:40

Gran Turismo 7 is already one of the best sim racing titles out there, with the game having continually been updated with new vehicles, tracks and more since its release in 2021. By far the biggest addition since launch has been the introduction of Sophy AI – an advanced driving bot. Taking this one step further, Sony AI has now revealed its most realistic driver yet.

In an article by Traxon.gg, the publication spoke on the latest advancements made by Sony AI, detailing “a new super-human racing agent that can ‘see’ using Gran Turismo 7.”

Going into more specifics, while Sophy AI was able to compete with players more realistically due to it being aware of a race’s precise track shape; tyre slip angle; slip ratio; its wheel load and more,

this new AI on the other hand functions even more like a real human – with the AI driver itself physically seeing out of the front glass panel for the vehicle; just like a real racer/player would.

Speaking on this new evolution, the Senior Research Scientist at Sony AI – Kaushik Subramanian – explained “The fascinating part about this is that we don't have to control what it focuses on. We provide the image, and the AI approach learns what to focus on to get the result we are interested in.”

Subramanian continued, “We tell the AI that its goal is to drive as fast as possible, stay on track and avoid colliding with the barriers. Given some training time, the algorithm learns to focus on relevant parts of the image to satisfy that goal. On a straight section, the AI focuses on what is coming up in the distance. Whereas if it's looking at a corner, the pink marking dots [used to determine its focus] might line up on the edges of the track to help it stay within the course limits.”

The introduction of Sophy AI back in early 2023 was already a pretty big surprise, but it is even more exciting to see Sony continuing to invest in a technology which – while certainly would have other applications – can help make video games more immersive, realistic and hopefully fun.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the GT7’s AI advancements? Have you enjoyed going up against Sophy AI? Let us know down below.

Filming for the Watch Dogs movie has officially wrapped

16 septembre 2024 à 10:00

Back in March, we reported that a film based on Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs IP was in development, directed by Mathieu Turi and starring Sophie Wilde. With filming having officially started back in July, the team have now announced that they have officially wrapped this side of the movie’s development.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Ubisoft page shared the following: “run film_wrapped.exe(#watchdogsmovie.mp4) … … >Filming complete!”

For the uninitiated, the Watch Dogs film is being produced by ‘New Regency’, known for films such as The Lighthouse, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Revenant and 2016’s Assassin's Creed – among many others.

As a director, Mathieu Turi is not a household name, with their prior work including a couple sci-fi horror/thriller films – all of which have been received rather middlingly.

That said, every director has to start somewhere, and so it will be interesting to see what Turi and co. have planned for the upcoming film. Hopefully we won’t have another Assassin’s Creed (2016) on our hands.

KitGuru says: Are you at all excited for the Watch Dogs film? Which of the three games do you think it’ll be most inspired by? Which entry in the series is your favourite? Let us know down below.

Silverstone shows off upcoming Fara 515XR mid-tower chassis

Par : João Silva
15 septembre 2024 à 14:50

SilverStone's Fara series is all about delivering simplicity and affordability. The newly unveiled Fara 515XR embodies these principles with its sleek design and budget-friendly appeal. The chassis is available in black and white, both featuring a mesh front panel with a passe-partout pattern.

Compact at 484.5×204.8×402.5mm, the Fara 515XR mid-tower chassis doesn't compromise ATX compatibility while accommodating other essential components. Depending on the front radiator configuration (up to 280/360), it can support 350-mm-long graphics cards, 160-mm-long PSUs and 159-mm-tall CPU air coolers.

Equipped with four 120-mm fans, the Fara 515XR should offer plenty of airflow in its stock configuration. However, if you want to improve it, there's space for three more 120/140-mm fans at the top. Alternatively, you can mount up to a 240/280 AIO CPU cooler on the top.

Storage options are also generous, with support for two 2.5/3.5-inch drives in an HDD cage, along with two 2.5-inch slots located behind the motherboard. The front I/O includes 2x USB-A 3.0 ports, a 3.5-mm audio input and a 3.5-mm audio output. The case is now available in Europe for around €65.

Asus unveils new ROG Strix Platinum PSUs with “GPU-First” voltage sensing

Par : João Silva
15 septembre 2024 à 14:00

Asus has just announced the release of its new ROG Strix Platinum PSU line, a series of high-performance power supplies tailored to meet the demands of gaming enthusiasts. The lineup includes three models featuring reduced connection temperatures, intelligent wattage distribution, ATX 3.1 compatibility, and a 10-year warranty.

These power supplies are designed to accommodate various gaming PC configurations, regardless of the graphics card used. One standout feature is the proprietary GPU-First intelligent voltage stabiliser (IVS), which ensures a steady power flow to overclocked graphics cards, delivering up to 45% more stable voltage to the GPU than conventional stabilisers. Users can use a traditional CPU-focused voltage sensor as long as they don't connect the cable to the IVS.

Available with 850W, 1000W, and 1200W, the ROG Strix Platinum PSUs have gallium nitride (GaN) MOSFETs, offering up to 30% improved power efficiency over previous generations. The compact size of the GaN MOSFET enables a simplified internal architecture, allowing for better heat dissipation.

Featuring dual ball bearings, the PSU fan boasts a lifespan of up to 80,000 hours. The 0dB mode, activated when the PSU load is 40% or below, allows the fan to automatically disengage at safe temperatures, providing a quieter gaming experience. In ROG Strix 1000W Platinum's case, this PSU generates less than 20 dB of noise, earning it an A+ Cybernetics certification.

The series also boasts 80 Plus Platinum certifications, guaranteeing a minimum of 89% efficiency across all load sizes. This is partly due to the high-end Japanese capacitors offering a longer lifespan than conventional ones. The modular design of the ROG Strix Platinum PSUs allows for easy installation and cable management with flexible, etched modular cables.

Asus packs a unique CPU power cord in the ROG Strix Platinum series, featuring a distinctive colour scheme and clip for easy identification. Lastly, the PSUs come with ROG Strix stickers, allowing users to add a personal touch to their gaming setup.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru says: If you used one of these PSUs on a system, would you connect the GPU-First IVS or use the traditional CPU-focused approach?

AMD will shift to AI with next-gen FSR 4

Par : João Silva
15 septembre 2024 à 13:00

During a recent conversation with AMD's Jack Huynh, senior VP and GM of the Computing and Graphics Business Group, new details emerged regarding the tech giant's gaming GPU strategy. Huynh shed light on AMD's plans to deprioritise flagship gaming GPUs by establishing a uniform UDNA GPU architecture. The interview also revealed some exciting new details about FSR 4.

In a surprising turn, during its conversation with Tom's Hardware about handheld gaming and battery life, Huynh explained that FSR is undergoing a significant transformation. Previously, FSR2 and FSR3 were developed using analytical methods, but AMD has since restructured its approach to focus on AI-based frame creation and interpolation. This shift aims to maximise efficiency and enhance battery life, suggesting a strong focus on handheld gaming devices.

Although Huynh talked about the advantages that FSR4 can bring to the handheld market, that doesn't mean it will be limited to that type of device. Despite the emphasis on battery life, AMD's track record of supporting a wide range of GPU options suggests that FSR4 may have broader applications. Notably, AMD's GPUs from the last six years are compatible with FP16 and DP4a (INT8) instructions, aligning with the transition to AI-based solutions.

While uncertainties linger around FSR4's release timeline, AMD's recent upgrade to Fluid Motion Frames 2 (AFMF 2) technology suggests a short-term solution for enhancing frame creation on portable gaming devices.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru says: With AMD moving to an entirely AI-based solution with FSR 4, do you think the red team's solution will be able to rival Intel XeSS and Nvidia DLSS in terms of image quality?

The PS5 Pro was officially revealed earlier this week and while we did get some surface level details about the upgraded GPU under the hood, some of the more technical details went unmentioned. That has changed a bit in post-reveal interviews, in which Cerny talks about the next-generation RT Units used on the PS5 Pro. Apparently, AMD has yet to use these new-gen ray-tracing accelerators in any available graphics card.

Speaking with CNET, PlayStation Lead Architect, Mark Cerny, said: “PS5 Pro uses the new advanced [ray tracing] feature sets that AMD created as the next step in their roadmap architecture. But if you look around, there are no other AMD GPUs that use it yet.”

PCGamer did some calculations and found that the ray-tracing boost Sony is claiming for the PS5 Pro is very much in line with the performance boost going from RDNA 2 to RDNA 3, so it is unclear how true Cerny's statement is regarding the PS5 Pro's new RT hardware.

What this does mean is we're likely to see greater ray-tracing performance in RDNA 4, and AMD will be focusing on garnering market share with high-value mid-range and entry-level GPUs, rather than producing a very expensive high-end, power-hungry graphics card.

KitGuru Says: The PS5 Pro aims to allow games to run at 60FPS in Fidelity mode with features like ray-tracing active. How many games it can reliably do that for still remains to be seen.

Annapurna Interactive staff quits following failed negotiations to spin-off

13 septembre 2024 à 17:00

Annapurna Interactive have published some excellent titles in recent years but the company appears to be in a bit of a rough patch, as an entire team of 25 employees quit due to soured negotiations with bosses.

Bloomberg's Jason Schreier broke the story, confirming that ‘around two dozen' employees at Annapurna Interactive, including its president, Nathan Gray, resigned due to failed negotiations with Annapurna owner, Megan Ellison. Annapurna Interactive, which is the company's game publishing arm, wanted to spin-off and become an independent entity and when that wasn't allowed to happen, almost the entire staff quit.

Schreier's report claims that this has caused “chaos” amongst Annapurna's development partners, although all contracts currently in place will be honoured, according to Annapurna Interactive's newly appointed president, Hector Sanchez. Those who left the company are expected to be replaced.

“Our top priority is continuing to support our developer and publishing partners during this transition,” Ellison said in a statement provided to Bloomberg. “We're committed to not only our existing slate of games but also expanding our presence in the interactive space as we continue to look for opportunities to take a more integrated approach to linear and interactive storytelling across film and TV, gaming, and theatre.”

None of this is said to have any impact on Remedy's recent partnership with Annapurna, which is with a separate part of the company for things like film, TV and audio dramas, comics etc.

KitGuru Says: This is a very unexpected turn of events and with so many employees being replaced, there will no doubt be some changes to how the publishing arm operates moving forward.
