Out of all the various PC storefronts, GOG has always been the most different, with the team at CDProjekt offering a unique experience thanks to DRM-free titles, consumer-friendly practices and most recently their dedication to game preservation. In an effort to expand the latter, GOG has now announced their new ‘GOG Patrons’ initiative.

Taking to their blog to make the announcement, the GOG team officially unveiled the latest expansion to their preservation program, introducing GOG Patrons – “a completely optional way for anyone who wants to support our preservation efforts on a monthly basis.”

Functioning more like a Twitch sub or a YouTube membership as opposed to a typical subscription service, GOG Patrons is focused on expanding its community-feel, with the $5 a month cost getting you:

• Access to Patron-only Discord server with exclusive video content
• Your nickname credited on the GOG Preservation Program game pages
• A special badge for your GOG profile

Though certainly not for everyone, this new initiative is intended to allow GOG to dedicate a greater amount of resources to game preservation while offering Patrons an added sense of community and knowledge that your money is going directly towards the initiative.

Most Alien fans at this point are looking forward to the long-awaited Alien Isolation 2. However, that isn't the only new Alien game in development. According to reports this week, there is a second mystery survival horror game in the works. 

Insider Gaming has learned that a new Alien game is in development. The title was revived recently after initially being planned back in 2020 and will offer a mix of combat, platforming and puzzles. The main character is said to be an engineer named Aubrey, who gets around the ship with a pair of magnetic boots and a grappling hook, essentially making this ‘Shadow of the Tomb Raider' but with Aliens.

The game is also apparently being made by Eidos Montreal, the studio behind Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided. Unfortunately, this likely means we won't be seeing Adam Jensen again anytime soon.

The new Alien game is said to be targeting a 2028 release window, with a budget of over $70 million. The studio will have to hope that the game doesn't end up clashing with Alien isolation 2, which began development in 2024, as that is a more established Alien sub-franchise with a large following.

While STALKER 2 launched in a less-than-polished state due to a multitude of factors, the team at GSC Game World have been diligently updating and improving the game with thousands of bug fixes, an overhaul to its A-Life system and more. Focusing more on the story side of STALKER 2, a new free update has now been announced – arriving later today.

Making the announcement via the PlayStation Blog, GSC Game World unveiled their latest free update. Arriving today, this narrative-focused update introduces a brand new storyline which offers plenty to do and find, including:

• 8 quests “that can take hours to complete”
• 7 new locations
• 6 characters “with their own backgrounds and stories”
• A new unique weapon
• A hub to create

Details on the new storyline can be found HERE, but in terms of gameplay content the ‘unique weapon’ is said to be the GP37V2 – a modified version of the GP37 rifle which includes an integrated suppressor and scope alongside alterations to its firing pattern.

In addition, some of the pre-existing locations have been refreshed somewhat, “now re-inhabited by stalkers”. Perhaps the biggest inclusion with this update is the new Hub “appearing in a not-so-populated area of Burnt Forest.”

STALKER 2 certainly came a bit too hot out of the oven. Fortunately, the team at GSC Game World appear committed to ensuring that this title serves as a worthy follow-up to the classic STALKER trilogy. The full blogpost can be found HERE.

Bungie’s Marathon has run into plenty of issues ever since the extraction shooter was first shown off properly earlier this year, with alpha testers finding the game lacking in uniqueness – then being exacerbated by confirmation that the game had used stolen assets from an independent artist. This all led to the game being indefinitely delayed. With all the legal issues surrounding the stolen assets now being resolved however, Bungie have come out and given us a new official release date.

As part of the company’s latest ‘Vision of Marathon’ ViDoc, the team at Bungie confirmed that Marathon will now officially release in March of 2026 – though we did not get an exact release date.

Alongside this however, the team also finally confirmed that the game will launch at a price of $39.99/£34.99 (matching previous rumours).

Of course, Marathon was previously delayed not only due to the legal issues, but also as a result of heavy backlash from fans. As such, the team made sure to note all of the improvements made since the alpha tests, including but not limited to:

• Proximity chat
• Solo queue
• Rook – “a Runner shell used to scavenge matches in progress”
• A “doubling down on the dark, gritty, and grounded sci-fi world”
• Improved visual fidelity and immersion
  • Dead Runners drop as corpses that decay over time
  • Deepened environmental storytelling
  • Audio improvements

With a relatively poor first showing and multiple controversies, Marathon has quite the uphill battle. Still, the changes and improvements listed do sound positive, and so hopefully Marathon can wind up being a fun addition to the extraction shooter genre. We will have to wait and see.

Cult of the Lamb has been a cult-hit of sorts, with the cutesy-yet-cultish management rogue-like receiving a ton of praise upon its initial release back in 2022. Thanks to continued support via free updates and DLC packs, the game has gone on to become publisher Devolver Digital’s biggest IP. Following its announcement in August, the team at Massive Monster have now confirmed that their first major expansion – WOOLHAVEN – is officially set to arrive in just over a month’s time.

Making the announcement, the team at Massive Monster offered another look at Cult of the Lamb: WOOLHAVEN while confirming that the expansion is officially coming on the 22nd of January 2026.

For the uninitiated, WOOLHAVEN brings a ton of new content and fresh mechanics, including but not limited to:

• Two new dungeons
• Woolhaven region
• New winter mechanic requiring greater cult management
• New structures to build
• You can now set up a ranch to tame beasts
• Legendary weapons
• And more

Cult of the Lamb was already a fun time when it initially released. Since then, the game has only gotten better, with free updates introducing whole new mechanics including a heavy attack, co-op play and much more.

Gamers and PC enthusiasts may face prolonged, inflated component prices, as SK Hynix has reportedly forecast that the shortage of DRAM could last until 2028. This may not only impact current-generation products like DDR5 and GDDR7, but also previous-gen DDR4 memory, GDDR6 and even LPDDR, which is typically used in mobile devices. 

The report comes from BullsLab Jay, who also stated that the current inventory drying up will not be met with the traditional response of ramping up production capacity for consumer-grade goods, signaling a potential long-term price hike for consoles, graphics cards, and system memory.

The driving force behind these supply issues is the strategic shift toward AI infrastructure. SK Hynix noted that its most cutting-edge memory technologies, specifically HBM and SOCAMM, will be exempt from these shortages, as the company plans to funnel its manufacturing resources and capacity expansions almost exclusively into these types of memory to satisfy the needs of the AI server market. While SK Hynix is aggressively installing new equipment, it's entirely dedicated to advanced storage solutions and HBM for data centres rather than the commodity DRAM used in consumer electronics.

This divergence in strategy highlights a growing rift in the semiconductor industry, where consumer needs are taking a backseat to enterprise AI requirements. Unless manufacturers increase production of memory for consumer electronics, buyers should prepare to pay more for most memory-dependent devices.

Data compiled by SteamDB has given us a look at just how many games came to the Steam platform this year. As of December 2025, over 19,000 titles have launched on Steam this year, although a good number of them seemed to come and go without garnering any significant traction. 

While Steam's open publishing model has successfully lowered the barrier to entry, it has made standing out an immense challenge for independent developers lacking substantial marketing budgets. SteamDB's data, brought to our attention by GamingOnLinux, suggests this is a persistent trend, as only slightly more than 20% of the approximately 19,000 games released in the previous year garnered enough player activity for Valve to enable community features such as trading cards and badges.

Despite Valve's implementation of discovery tools such as wishlists, algorithmic queues, and curator networks, shop visibility remains a source of frustration for indie developers and smaller studios. Developers and players alike struggle to understand the mechanisms that determine which games get promoted, leading many creators to seek external solutions or community-organised initiatives to boost the profile of niche genres.

Chinese display manufacturer HKC is preparing to launch the M10 Ultra, a groundbreaking gaming monitor that claims to be the first to use RGB MiniLED technology. While official details remain scarce, a leak report has provided a first look at the display.

X user @realVictor_M (via Wccftech) shared an image of the upcoming monitor. The M10 Ultra features a native 4K panel with a 165 Hz refresh rate that supports dual-mode function, allowing it to switch to Full HD at 330 Hz. Perhaps the most striking specification is its colour performance; thanks to the use of discrete Red, Green, and Blue LEDs rather than the traditional blue or white backlighting found in standard MiniLED displays, the M10 Ultra achieves an exceptional 100% coverage of the BT.2020 colour space.

This RGB MiniLED technology from HKC represents a major leap forward in colour reproduction. By eliminating the need for colour conversion layers, the display can achieve higher saturation and efficiency. The leak suggests the monitor can deliver 1,000 nits of brightness in HDR mode, with some reports indicating the underlying technology could push peak brightness up to 8,000 nits. Ideally sized for desktop use, the screen is expected to be a 27-inch model, housed in a chassis with a fully ergonomic stand and an RGB ring on the rear.

Connectivity on the M10 Ultra is also quite decent. Unlike many current flagships, which are bottlenecked by older interfaces, this monitor reportedly supports DisplayPort 2.1, enough to drive uncompressed 4K at 165 Hz with 10-bit colour depth. The I/O selection is rounded out by a USB-C port capable of delivering 98W of power.

Phantom Blade Zero is one of the more intriguing PlayStation-aligned projects to be shown off in recent years. Initially announced back in Summer of 2023, the game excited many with its stylish and flashy combat which for some seemed too smooth to be real. That said, Phantom Blade Zero is real and is coming out soon(ish), with the game having officially been announced to launch in September of next year.

Making the announcement during The Game Awards, studio S-Game offered another look at Phantom Blade Zero and its “kungfupunk world shaped by conspiracy, intrigue, and cinematicmartial action.”

While a solid trailer in its own right, the most exciting part of the announcement was the confirmation that the game is scheduled to launch on the 9th of September 2026 for PS5 and PC.

Given that this is still 9 months away, it would not be surprising to see the title get a delay at some point. That said, with GTA VI scheduled to launch in November, it is unlikely that S-Game would want to hold their game back for too long.

Whether it truly arrives in September or not, Phantom Blade Zero looks to offer an experience which will hopefully be worth the wait.

The Ace Combat series is easily the most well known in the combat flight sim genre, with the franchise stretching all the way back to 1995. The latest entry, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown launched back in 2019 has continued to see consistent sales. With Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve finally being unveiled at The Game Awards, the team revealed that AC7 is closing in on 7 million copies sold.

Taking part in an interview conducted by the Japanese publication Famitsu, Ace Combat director Kazutoki Kono and producer Manabu Shimomoto were asked for an update on Skies Unknown’s total sales – revealing that the title “will soon reach 7 million copies.”

As mentioned, Ace Combat 7 has been a pretty consistent seller, with the title having managed to shift roughly a million copies each year since launch (aided in part by its release across additional platforms); reaching 5 million by its 5th anniversary and 6 million by its 6th.

With roughly a month to go until Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown’s 7th anniversary, it appears as though the game will once again reach a substantial milestone which lines up neatly with its years on the market and entry number.

Given that Ace Combat 8 has now been officially announced however, it will be interesting to see whether sales for the previous title begin to slow down.

Team Ninja have been great in supporting their upcoming releases with free demos for all to check out and enjoy. Such has been the case with the Nioh series, offering various alpha, beta and timed-limited demos across its previous two entries. With Nioh 3 officially confirmed to be launching in early February, Team Ninja have announced a demo for the threequel – arriving one week ahead of the full game.

Announced during The Game Awards, Team Ninja / Koei Tecmo confirmed that Nioh 3 will officially launch on the 6th of February 2026.

For those who can’t wait that long however, a demo will be released shortly ahead of its full arrival, landing on the 29th of January. Unlike the previous Nioh 3 demo from earlier this year, the upcoming snippet appears not to be time-limited.

Additionally, players will be able to transfer their save data over from the demo to the full game upon its release – suggesting that it will likely be the first few playable hours in demo form.

Regardless, having a demo of any kind for a game is an increasingly rare occurrence, and so it is encouraging to see Team Ninja continue to give players the opportunity to try before they buy.

One of the few decisions made by Xbox in recent years which has turned out to be a success has been the launching of their Xbox Developer Direct Showcase. Having taken place in January of 2024 and 2025, it comes as little surprise that Microsoft is planning a 2026 edition of the showcase – now confirmed to be going live next month.

In an interview conducted by the publication Variety, president of game content and studios at Microsoft ‘Matt Booty’ confirmed that a 2026 edition of their dev direct will be happening in January, while also teasing some of the expected projects, stating:

“I can't share exactly what's there, but we've got a lot of stuff that we're shipping next year. In fact, usually Dev Direct is about highlighting what's coming up for the year ahead. This year, we've got more stuff coming up than we can fit in one show.”

Booty continued, “So I will tell you that Playground Games is going to be in the Dev Direct, but we'll have more stuff next year to ship than we can fit into one Dev Direct show in January, which is a good place to be.”

Whether this means that Xbox will host a second direct later in the year, or will instead save up those announcements for other industry shows we will have to wait and see. That said, Microsoft has been pretty successful with their Developer Directs so far and so it is encouraging to see them continuing the practice.

Fresh from securing the Game of the Year award at TGA 2025, Sandfall Interactive has immediately launched new content for its turn-based RPG, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Rather than gating this new content behind a pay wall, the studio has released the DLC for free to commemorate the accolades, offering both new gameplay challenges and technical updates across all platforms.

The update expands the game world with a completely new playable environment, giving players a good reason to jump back in. This update also includes additional tracks from award-winning composer Lorien Testard, maintaining the high audio standards set by the base game. For those who have already optimised their party builds, the patch introduces the Endless Tower, a late-game gauntlet designed to test combat efficiency against a succession of high-level bosses.

Beyond the content expansion, the update addresses a frequent community request by implementing a Photo Mode. This allows users to capture the game's distinct art style without HUD interference. Scythe Japan has officially introduced the Kotetsu Mark 4 (model SCKTT-4000), the latest iteration of its popular entry-level air cooler. Designed to replace the Kotetsu Mark 3, this new model retains the signature single-tower form factor while integrating significant performance upgrades, most notably the transition to the new Wonder Tornado 120 mm PWM fan.

Brought to our attention by ITHome (via TechPowerUP), the new Kotetsu Mark 4 features four 6 mm nickel-plated heatpipes, maintaining the thermal transfer standards of its predecessor. Physically, the Mark 4 is slightly more compact than the Mark 3, measuring 134×155×80 mm compared to the previous 138×154×80 mm, and weighing 771 g, including the fan. The aesthetic has also been refined with a redesigned top cover that offers a cleaner, more premium look for system builders who value attention to detail.

The new fan choice is what drives the performance improvements. Replacing the Kaze Flex II used in the previous generation, the Wonder Tornado 120 mm fan operates between 350 (±200) RPM and 2000 RPM. This configuration delivers a rated airflow of up to 60.29 CFM and a static pressure range of 0.05 to 2.45 mmH₂O. These specifications ensure the cooler is well-equipped to handle modern mainstream processors, even in space-constrained mid-tower cases, with noise levels ranging from 3.0 dBA to 28.88 dBA.

SEGA and Creative Assembly have officially announced Total War: Warhammer 40,000, marking a historic shift for the award-winning strategy franchise as it leaves the fantasy realm for the grim darkness of the 41st Millennium. Revealed at The Game Awards with a cinematic trailer, the upcoming title places players in the Era Indomitus, where they will wage war on a galactic scale. This new entry promises to maintain the series' signature blend of turn-based strategy and massive real-time battles, but expanded to include planetary conquest, fleet management, and apocalyptic weaponry.

At launch, players will be able to command four factions: the Space Marines, the Astra Militarum, the Orks, and the Aeldari. Each faction will feature distinct playstyles and challenges across both campaign and battle modes. The game will include a variety of units ranging from standard battleline infantry and tanks to massive walkers and war engines.

A new feature for the series is deep army customisation. Players will have the freedom to personalize their forces or create entirely new thematic armies. This includes customizing names, color schemes, and heraldry, as well as defining specific traits and tactics for their commanders.

In a first for the franchise, Total War: Warhammer 40,000 will debut on consoles alongside the PC release. The game is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, bringing the massive scale of Total War battles to console players for the first time. No release date has been set yet.

At The Game Awards on Thursday night, RPG fans received a massive win with the announcement of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. The new game, spearheaded by KOTOR director, Casey Hudson, is a spiritual successor to Knights of the Old Republic. Due to the short cinematic reveal, fans anticipated a lengthy wait for the game, with a release after 2030. Hudson is much more optimistic on the development timeline though. 

In a post on social media following the reveal, Hudson tells fans to not worry about the ‘2030' rumours. He says that the game “will be out before then”, although there is no firm release window set for the game yet as it is still in early development.

Hudson has already expressed his excitement for the project, saying that “working on KOTOR was a defining experience” for his career, adding that getting to work on a new Old Republic game is a “dream come true”.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic first came out in 2003, giving players the opportunity to play as their own character, who discovers their connection to the force after meeting Jedi Bastilla Shan, who then serves as one of your companions for the rest of the game. The game was famous for deepening Star Wars lore, particularly where the Jedi and Sith are concerned.

Fate of the Old Republic should follow a similar trend. I'll keep my fingers crossed that we get to revisit Dantooine and Koriban.

KitGuru Says: I would love to be playing this sooner rather than later, but game development is often fraught with unexpected delays and issues. As long as the right kind of scope is maintained, it doesn't necessarily have to take 5+ years to make, but some of that will also depend on Disney and their own ‘requests'.

Geekbench 6 Multi Core

In Geekbench 6 Multi Core we see the Godlike X at the top of the chart. As we show in our video this is likely thanks to the BIOS setting which delivers more power to the CPU and runs it at a higher clock speed than we have previously seen. The results are impressive.

Cinebench R23 Multi Core

It is a similar story in Cinebench R23 Multi Core where the Godlike X delivers storming performance, albeit while using more power.

Far Cry 6 at 1080p

We also see very good performance in Far Cry 6 at 1080p. It is a close-run thing at the top of the chart but the Godlike X wins the day.

Closing Thoughts

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the MSI MEG X870E Godlike X is the fact that it is a limited edition of 1,000 units, plus the samples sent to reviewers such as KitGuru. If I had taken a guess how many motherboards you could sell for £1,250 inc VAT I would have speculated perhaps 100 or 200 globally, however we can be confident that MSI knows this market well after ten years of Godlike.

In other words there are a great many more people out there building mega-high-end-super-duper PCs than we might ever have guessed.

Those lucky people are getting a massive amount of PC hardware for their sizeable outlay, along with a huge amount of bling and ARGB lighting. We were impressed by the massive number of USB-C ports on the rear I/O panel but the eye is mainly drawn to the Dynamic Dashboard III display which earns the term ‘blingtastic' as it is simultaneously quite unnecessary and utterly desirable. MSI MEG X870E Godlike X is ridiculous to most PC builders but is also quite wonderful.

Lenovo has quietly listed a new gaming monitor that will surely cause some confusion due to its naming convention. The new Legion 27Q-10 OLED sits awkwardly between two existing products: the budget-friendly IPS model, named Legion 27Q-10, and the higher-specification Legion Pro 27Q-10. 

This new Legion 27Q-10 OLED (via Prad) monitor features a 26.5-inch QD-OLED panel with QHD resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate, representing a slight step down from the Pro version, which uses a similar panel overclocked to 280Hz. The panel boasts a contrast ratio of 1,500,000:1, 10-bit color depth, and 99% coverage of both DCI-P3 and sRGB color spaces. In terms of motion clarity, the screen has a 0.03ms G2G response time and a VESA ClearMR 13000 certification. FreeSync Premium is included to handle variable refresh rates, ensuring tear-free gameplay, although the monitor lacks official DisplayHDR certification despite supporting HDR10 signals with a peak brightness of 400 nits.

Potential buyers should be aware of a specific connectivity limitation, though. While the monitor includes two HDMI 2.1 ports, they use the older TMDS signaling protocol rather than the full-bandwidth FRL standard. This effectively limits the HDMI bandwidth to HDMI 2.0 speeds, capping the refresh rate at 144 Hz when using an HDMI cable. To unlock the full 240 Hz potential of the display, users must rely on the single DisplayPort 1.4 connection. Additionally, the monitor has a headphone output.

The stand offers solid ergonomic capabilities, with tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustment, along with support for standard 100 x 100mm VESA mounts. Lenovo includes a three-year warranty with this monitor. While an official release date for Europe is pending, pricing should be aggressive. This model will sit under the Legion Pro 27Q-10 in the line-up, which currently retailing at £500, so this new model should be a bit cheaper, making it one of the most affordable entry points into OLED gaming.

Remedy has officially unveiled Control Resonant, the highly anticipated sequel to their award-winning supernatural thriller. Set for a 2026 release, this action-adventure RPG expands the franchise's scope significantly, moving the chaos from the confined corridors of the Oldest House to the open, distorted streets of New York City. The title is being self-published by Remedy with co-financing and production support from Annapurna Pictures.

The narrative shifts perspective to Dylan Faden, the troubled brother of the original protagonist, Jesse Faden. After years of confinement, Dylan is deployed by his former captors to the Federal Bureau of Control to combat a cosmic entity actively rewriting the laws of nature. His mission is both tactical and deeply personal; while fighting through a Manhattan on the brink of paranormal annihilation, he must search for his missing sister and struggle to maintain his humanity against the overwhelming power he wields.

Gameplay represents a significant change for the series, transitioning into a more Devil May Cry-like format. Players will master a deep progression system and wield the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee weapon that adapts to different combat scenarios. The environment itself acts as both playground and adversary, featuring gravity-defying landscapes and metaphysical zones that reflect Dylan's fractured psyche.

Despite being a sequel, Remedy has designed the game to be accessible to newcomers so that players can jump straight into this adventure without prior knowledge of the first game. The game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, and Mac.
