Marathon on PS5 Pro runs at a native 5K resolution

21 janvier 2026 à 20:00

Following a roughly 6 months delay, Bungie’s extraction shooter Marathon is finally set to officially launch on the 5th of March. While questions remain regarding how the live-service title will be received, PS5 Pro users are seemingly in for quite the visual treat, with Sony confirming that the PS5 Pro version of Marathon will run at an internal resolution of 5K.

Following the official announcement of Marathon’s new release date (that being the 5th of March), PlayStation have now started to share a bunch of ancillary details pertaining to the upcoming extraction shooter.

While some games struggle to render at a native 1080p even on the PS5 Pro, Marathon looks to be operating with plenty of spare power, with the team confirming via its store page that:

“PS5 Pro Enhanced PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) blends 5K internal rendering into a clean, stable 4K image so your Runner’s view stays sharp, even when the action gets hectic.”

Marathon PS5 Pro

Typically, PSSR is used to upscale games to a higher perceived resolution, but in this case, the technology is actually downsampling the internal resolution from 5K to 4K; which will make Marathon’s sleek visual design even cleaner looking.

Unfortunately, there has been no word on whether the game will offer a 120fps mode, with the store page only confirming “a sharp, smooth 60 FPS” for now.

Regardless, it is interesting to see PSSR used to downsample from higher resolutions, as opposed to being a bit of a clutch to eke out some extra frames. Hopefully Bungie has plans to introduce some sort of high framerate option.

9 titles are set to leave PlayStation Plus Extra next month

21 janvier 2026 à 19:00

With Sony’s PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium titles for the month of January now out and available for subscribers to claim, the console maker has confirmed the list of games which will be removed from the service next month. Covering a wide spectrum of genres, February’s departees include the hit dungeon-crawling rogue-like Cult of the Lamb, Rez Infinite and WWE 2K25 among others.

In going to the last chance to play section on the PlayStation 5’s PS Plus tab, subscribers can find a list of 9 titles which are set to be removed from the service next month (likely mid-February):

  • WWE 2k25
  • New World Aeternum
  • Saga Frontier Remastered
  • Cult of the Lamb
  • Super Neptunia RPG
  • The Ascent
  • Carto
  • Rez Infinite
  • Spirit of the North

PlayStation Plus Cult of the Lamb

While the likes of Cult of the Lamb and Rez Infinite being removed is sad to see, Amazon’s New World Aeternum was already being delisted from all storefronts as servers are being taken offline – and so its departure is not surprising. Regardless, you still have roughly a month to check out / complete the games above before they are removed from the service come mid-February.

In case you missed it, January’s PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium additions include the likes of Resident Evil Village, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Darkest Dungeon II. Full details on this month’s line-up can be found HERE.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of February’s departees? Will you try to complete any of the listed games before their removal? Let us know down below.

Borderlands 4 Switch 2 release date leaked by gaming retailer

21 janvier 2026 à 18:00

Prior to the game’s launch last year, the team at Gearbox confirmed that the then-upcoming Borderlands 4 would be landing on the Nintendo Switch 2 alongside all other platforms. Right at the last minute however, the Switch 2 version was delayed indefinitely citing the need for “additional development and polish time”. While we’ve yet to get an updated timeline, a Portuguese retailer seems to have confirmed Borderlands 4’s launch date prematurely.

As discovered by Reddit user ‘Venom_daemon', the Portuguese retailer GamingReplay recently went live with their listing for the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4, with the title reportedly arriving on the 27th of February.

While this of course should be taken with a pinch of salt until confirmed by Gearbox themselves, Borderlands 4 over the past few months has made a bunch of strides when it comes to ensuring a more consistent and performant experience, meaning its arrival shouldn’t be too far away.

Borderlands Switch 2

That said, early impressions of the Switch 2 version prior to release left plenty to be desired, and so it will be interesting to see exactly what changes/optimisations have been made to ensure a smooth experience.

Despite a solid start, Borderlands 4 sales have been lower than expected, with 2K blaming performance issues on PC for the “softer” reception. With a majority of these woes across PC and consoles now resolved, it will be interesting to see how the Switch 2 version performs – both in terms of stability and sales.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Borderlands 4? Did the early performance problems dissuade you from getting the game? Will the Switch 2 version include an FOV slider? Let us know your thoughts down below.

HITMAN: World of Assassination update brings full cross-progression support next month

21 janvier 2026 à 17:00

IO Interactive has slowly but surely been transforming HITMAN: World of Assassination into the perfect stealth-assassination series, collating the recent trilogy into one neat package while adding new content; modes; features and more. 5 years on from the original launch of HITMAN 3, IOI have announced a highly-welcome update – with full cross-progression set to be added early next month.

Making the official announcement on their blog, the team at IO Interactive unveiled the next update coming to HITMAN: World of Assassination, writing: “On this day, exactly 5 years ago, HITMAN 3 launched worldwide for our players to experience, as the final chapter of the World of Assassination trilogy. As part of that special milestone, it was also important for HITMAN to equip its players with a sense of continuity by allowing everyone to bring forward their established progression from previous parts.”

In furthering these efforts, IOI have now confirmed that “Cross-Progression is coming to HITMAN World of Assassination” with the update set to go live on the 3rd of February. Unlike some games which use cross-progression, HITMAN: WOA will allow you to carry your progress over to all platforms which the game is available on – mobile and VR included.

World of Assassination Progression

Being tied to your IOI account, the following will be tracked and synced across devices:

  • Experience
  • Player Level
  • Challenges
  • Location Mastery
  • Unlocks and Inventory
  • Achievements / Trophies
  • Freelancer Mode Progression
  • Campaign Story Progress

Despite starting its life as a separate trilogy, IOI have successfully turned HITMAN into a highly-popular live-service adjacent experience; minus many of the downsides which such titles typically experience.

Considering the fact that the team are hard at work on the upcoming 007: First Light, it is encouraging to see them continue to support HITMAN: WOA in a bunch of consumer-friendly ways.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

Major Splitgate update overhauls Battle Royale mode and more

21 janvier 2026 à 16:00

Back in 2022, the team at 1047 Games announced that they would be shutting down their popular Halo-like arena shooter Splitgate in order to focus work on a dedicated sequel. After years of waiting, Splitgate 2 officially launched last year to plenty of complaints, leading the team to unlaunch the sequel. Now back as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, 1047 Games have unveiled the first big update coming in the wake of its return.

Splitgate: Arena Reloaded update 2.2 has been officially announced and is set to go live tomorrow on the 22nd of January. Described as a “big” update which “builds on everything we learned from launch,” the patch focuses primarily on overhauling the game’s controversial battle royale mode.

Now known as Arena Royale, this revised BR mode is “designed to bring our previous Battle Royale closer to the speed and intensity of Arena Reloaded” featuring 24 players across 6 teams “built to play at a similar pace and length to a traditional arena match.”

Unlike the original BR mode, this new version takes place within a single biome in order to keep “the experience tight and focused” – though players can vote for which of the 4 biomes the match will take place in.

Beyond this, looting has been streamlined and sped up, with buy stations being removed as “upgrades are handled directly through your inventory, allowing you to make quick decisions without breaking the flow of the match.”

Full details on all the changes made to Arena Royale can be found HERE, but outside of the BR mode, patch 2.2 also brings with it some other welcome additions, including creator maps; new limited time modes and perhaps most excitingly a new mastery camo to unlock for your weapons.

Splitgate: Arena Reloaded has been off to a slow start since its return, with player numbers on Steam in particular being less-than-stellar. That said, Splitgate as a game does offer plenty of fun, and so it will be interesting to see whether this update helps to bring new / returning players into the fold.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: Have you checked out Arena Reloaded since its relaunch? How does it compare to the original Splitgate 2? Is the OG Splitgate still the best? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Phanteks launches 140mm T30 fan variant, available in single and triple pack

21 janvier 2026 à 13:00

Phanteks has officially launched the T30-140, a 140mm fan that expands the award-winning T30 series into a larger format. Teased at previous events, this fan has been developed in collaboration with Sunon.

The T30-140 distinguishes itself with a non-standard 30 mm frame thickness, providing 25% larger fan blades than traditional 25mm models. This increased surface area allows for much higher static pressure and airflow, making it an ideal candidate for radiators and restrictive dust filters. Both the fan frame and the blades are manufactured from Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP). This rigid material enables a microscopic 0.8 mm clearance between the blade tips and the frame, designed to reduce air turbulence.

Internal performance is driven by a 6-pole, 3-phase motor paired with Sunon’s magnetic dual Vapo bearing system. This combination ensures stable operation even at high rotational speeds while significantly reducing mechanical friction and motor hum. To cater to a wide range of build types, the T30-140 features a physical three-mode switch on the hub, allowing users to select between Hybrid, Performance, and Advanced profiles.

In Hybrid mode, the fan operates semi-passively, remaining completely silent (0 RPM) when the PWM signal is below 50% and reaching a maximum of 1,200 RPM. Despite the low RPM, it can still deliver up to a claimed 63.2 CFM of airflow at a 1.27 mmH2O static pressure, with a noise level of 23.2 dBA. This mode is perfect for silent office builds or low-load scenarios where noise minimisation is the priority. For those seeking a balance between thermals and noise, the Performance mode caps the fan at 2,000 RPM, delivering a claimed 109.9 CFM and 3.56 mmH2O of static pressure at 38.1 dBA. For overclocking or server environments where raw power is the only metric that matters, the Advanced mode pushes the fan to its 2,500-RPM limit. In this profile, the T30-140 is said to deliver a massive 139.6 CFM and a static pressure of 5.41 mmH2O, though the noise level increases to 44.3 dBA. Despite the high power draw in Advanced mode, Phanteks supports PWM daisy-chaining.

The Phanteks T30-140 is now available in a black-and-grey aesthetic. It is sold in both single and triple packs, with a single unit priced at £34.90/$39.99/€39.90 and the triple pack retailing at £99.90/$114.99/€114.90. Every fan comes with a six-year warranty.

KitGuru says: By sticking to a 30mm thickness and LCP, Phanteks is offering a no-compromise solution for enthusiasts who prioritise thermal headroom over RGB aesthetics. If you are building a high-end 420 mm radiator loop this year, these are some of the fans you definitely have to consider.

Gamdias launches Atlas M4 mid-tower with adjustable angled GPU cooling

21 janvier 2026 à 12:00

Gamdias has officially introduced the Atlas M4, a mid-tower case that aims to deliver a blend of high-performance cooling and pleasing aesthetics. This new addition to the Atlas series is part of the brand's 2026 “Augmented Immersion” vision, which focuses on engineering a seamless connection between the user and their hardware.

The primary visual draw of the Atlas M4 is its seamless tempered glass that wraps around the front and sides, offering a “bottom-to-top” view of the internal components. To achieve this unobstructed panoramic layout, Gamdias shifted the PSU to a front-mounted position. This design choice removes the traditional PSU shroud from the bottom of the case, creating a cleaner main chamber. Furthermore, the chassis is fully compatible with hidden-connector motherboards, enabling a build virtually free of visible internal cabling.

For thermal management, the Atlas M4 employs a chimney-style ventilation design. It draws cool air from the perforated bottom panel and exhausts heat through the top and rear, working with natural thermal convection. The case comes equipped with four pre-installed Notus M1 ARGB fans and an integrated 8-port PWM ARGB fan hub for centralised lighting and speed control. A neat feature of this cooling setup is the adjustable bottom-mounted fan system, which lets users select from six different angles to direct airflow toward graphics cards.

Built for versatility, the Atlas M4 supports ATX, microATX, and Mini-ITX motherboards. It accommodates graphics cards up to 425 mm in length and includes a pre-installed anti-sag bracket to protect the PCIe slot. The front I/O is well-equipped, featuring a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port capable of 10 Gbps, along with two USB 3.0 ports. Maintenance is simplified with modular, tool-free panels and magnetic dust filters on the top and sides, making it an accessible option for both first-time builders and seasoned enthusiasts. Priced at $99.9, the case targets builders looking for a premium display-style aesthetic without the traditional price barriers of high-end boutique enclosures.

KitGuru says: The combination of hidden-connector motherboard compatibility, fishtank design and the adjustable GPU fan system makes it stand out in an increasingly crowded segment of PC cases.

  • Maximum Static Pressure: 3.35 mmH₂O
  • Maximum Noise Level: 34.17 dBA
  • Warranty: 1 year

Test System Specifications

Testing Methodology:

We are primarily focusing on the performance of each cooler at 100% fan speed and also when locked to 40dBA noise output. We will focus on cooling performance using a manual overclock with all-core frequency and VCORE locked to 5.2GHz/1.3v (AMD) and 5.5GHz/1.3v (Intel) and Precision Boost Overdrive performance.

  • The test data is logged using HWINFO and the final 10 minutes of the data is calculated to find the average CPU temperature and CPU clock multiplier (AMD PBO Test) and then plotted in the charts.
  • For testing, we use a 30-minute looped run of Cinebench R23 and record the steady-state CPU temperature at the end of the test. This ensures that the CPU has had ample time to warm up and reach a steady state under all of the coolers.
  • The ambient is maintained at 19-21 degrees Celsius. Where there is variation beyond this temperature range, we add extra repeated tests to ensure consistency. However, this is well controlled now with A/C.
  • We also test each cooler with at least two fresh installs (typically three) to mitigate the likelihood of poor mounting spoiling results.
  • Ambient temperature and humidity are controlled via a mini split air conditioning system inside the test room. Ambient temperature is maintained between 22-23°C, Temperature delta figures are shown in the charts (ambient temperature is deducted from the measured component temperature).

Test Results:

Acoustics

Looking at noise output first, the Montech NX600 sits at the bottom end of the chart, recording 54dBA peak noise output, which makes it the loudest air cooler tested to date. Significantly louder than premium options such as the NH-U12A, Dark Rock 5, AK620 and SK260V and the current budget king, the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE V3. The NX600 prioritises fan speed over noise, and while tuning the fan curve may help, it’s clearly not aimed at silent PC builds.

Thermal Performance: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

With the fans running at maximum speed, the Montech NX600 delivers solid but not class-leading thermal performance, recording a steady-state CPU temperature of 61°C over ambient. That puts it on par with established air coolers like the be quiet! Dark Rock 5 and Corsair A115 and level with its main competition, the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120. That said, the NX600 is the loudest cooler in this test.

When noise is normalised to 40 dBA, thermal performance drops to 65 °C, which sees the NX600 still hold the middle of the pack, sat just behind the AK620 Digital Pro and the Sudokoo SK620V. But crucially, the NX60 outperforms the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 12 SE in the noise-normalised test, which we'd argue is the most useful metric since users will be more likely to run their system with fan curves rather than with the fans maxed out.

In AMD PBO testing, the Montech NX600 records a steady-state temperature of 63 °C over ambient with an average CPU clock multiplier of 51.3x, placing it in the middle of the chart again. It manages to sustain solid boost frequency, but trails more efficient dual-tower coolers with slightly higher clocks at lower temperatures. However, it again trades blows with what most would consider the best value cooler the Thermalright Peerless Assassin

So the Montech NX600 gives users a problem, but a good one, since now there are two great value budget air coolers to choose from that offer very similar levels of performance.

The Montech NX600/NX600 ARGB  is available to purchase now from Scan priced at £24.98 HERE for the regular version and £29.99 HERE for the ARGB model.

Pros:

  • Very low cost.
  • Decent thermal performance when noise is normalised.
  • ARGB effects are good.

Cons:

  • Fiddly fan installation.
  • Loud at max fan speed.
  • Build quality isn't perfect.

be quiet! enters the gaming mouse market with ultra-lightweight Dark Perk series

21 janvier 2026 à 09:57

be quiet! has officially entered the gaming peripheral market with the launch of its first-ever gaming mice: the Dark Perk Ergo and Dark Perk Sym. Known for its premium cooling and power solutions, the German manufacturer is now branching out to high-performance peripherals. Both models are designed for the competitive esports segment, featuring an ultralight 55-gram construction.

The Ergo variant provides a sculpted shape tailored for right-handed users, while the Sym offers a symmetrical chassis suitable for both left- and right-handed players. Both use the PixArt PAW3950 sensor, currently regarded as one of the most advanced optical sensors available. It delivers a resolution of up to 32,000 DPI and natively supports 8,000 Hz polling rate in both wired and wireless modes. To manage this high-speed data transmission while preserving battery life, be quiet! has integrated the Nordic nRF54H20 MCU, a microcontroller that allows the mouse to last up to 110 hours of continuous gameplay at a standard 1,000 Hz polling rate. The primary buttons use Omron D2FP-FN2 optical switches, designed to offer near-instantaneous actuation to prevent accidental double-clicks while maintaining a quiet acoustic profile in line with the company’s identity.

Software customisation is handled through the new be quiet! IO Center (Windows or web app). This allows users on Windows, macOS, and Linux to adjust DPI steps, polling rates, and RGB lighting in any Chromium-based browser without installing local drivers. The mice also feature onboard memory, allowing personalised profiles and macros to be saved directly to the hardware for use on different systems. Bandai Namco possibly working with Sony on a new remaster project according to job listing

20 janvier 2026 à 16:00

Ever since Sony shut down their ‘Japan Studio' the console maker has lost some of its charm, with series such as Gravity Rush; Patapon; Tokyo Jungle and more being left almost forgotten. Fortunately, Bandai Namco has been reviving many of these franchises with remasters in partnership with PlayStation. Following on from the likes of Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots; Patapon 1+2 Replay and Freedom Wars Remastered, it appears as though other such projects are in the works.

As discovered by Twitter user ‘AsobiAr’, PlayStation Japan recently published a new job listing for a Part-Time Associate Release Manager. While in and of itself not worthy of note, the listing’s job location is stated as being right around the same area as Bandai Namco’s GYAAR Studio.

Bandai Namco Remasters

Though quite the stretch, many fans are hoping that this means Bandai and Sony are continuing their partnership to bring some of PlayStation’s lesser-appreciated franchises to modern platforms.

As mentioned, in 2025 alone Bandai Namco released remasters for Everybody’s Golf; Patapon 1+2 and Freedom Wars. With each of these projects being developed by separate studios, it is entirely possible that Bandai have tasked GYAAR with another legacy Sony IP.

Perhaps we’ll finally get a current-gen remaster for Gravity Rush 1 and 2? One can dream.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: Do you think there is any significance to this job listing? Which legacy PlayStation game would you like to see remastered? What’s Japan Studio’s most underappreciated title? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Nintendo mandated that Mario always beat Sonic in the Olympic Games, according to ex-developer

20 janvier 2026 à 15:00

Though it's been quite some time since we last had a new entry in the series, the Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games franchise brought two of the most iconic mascots together to directly compete with one another in a bunch of fun mini-games based on the bi-annual sports event. Like Mario, it appears as though Nintendo has a bit of a competitive spirit, with developers revealing that in all of the games’ marketing Mario had to be beating Sonic.

In an interview with SEGA of Japan’s localisation producer ‘Ryoichi Hasegawa’, the developer revealed some of Nintendo’s mandates when making the ‘Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games’ series.

According to Hasegawa, when creating the promotional artwork for the games (which of course includes Sonic and Mario right at the front), “there was one small error and Sonic’s food was in front of Mario’s foot, and Nintendo demanded us to change the priority,” meaning that Mario needed to instead be ahead of Sonic – if ever so slightly.

Olympic Nintendo

Of course, while there was once a time many decades ago when Sonic was arguably a bigger mascot than Mario, history has proven the Italian plumber to be the more successful of the two financially.

This, alongside Nintendo’s known penchant for being highly protective of their IPs and it makes sense that they would want their own mascot to be perceived as better, subconsciously or not.

While we have not seen a new entry in the Sonic and Mario series for over half a decade now, SEGA did recently gain the rights back to work on games based on the Olympics, and so it will be interesting to see whether we do end up getting more Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games…and whether Mario will once again be ahead of the Blue Blur.

Premature pop-up suggests xCloud game streaming service is getting an ad-supported tier

20 janvier 2026 à 14:00

Ever since it first went live, Microsoft’s xCloud game streaming service has slowly but surely been expanded outwards with support for additional games, platforms and other ways to access the service. Following a recent pop-up which seems to suggest that Microsoft is working on an ad-supported tier for the service, insiders have now offered additional context.

2025 was a pretty big year for xCloud rumours, with Microsoft reportedly developing “next generation” Xbox cloud servers with a focus on “lower lag, improved bitrates, and higher resolution options” – alongside later leaks which claimed that the service would receive an overhaul in the future with 4 tiers in total.

Though Microsoft themselves have yet to unveil this overhaul, it seems the announcement might be imminent, with some Xbox Cloud Gaming users (as reported by Windows Central) noticing a pop-up with the message “1 hour of ad supported play time per session.”

According to known Xbox insider Jez Corden, Microsoft is indeed working on an ad-supported tier of sorts for xCloud, with the leaker stating: “seeking clarification about this message, it was confirmed to me that the ads will appear separately on Xbox Cloud Gaming, for those who have purchased Xbox games digitally, but don't have Xbox Game Pass.”

xCloud ad

Outside of this however, it appears as though there may also be a session-based version of xCloud which this premature message was hinting at, with Corden adding: “Microsoft has hundreds of games available to buy via Xbox Cloud Gaming, but as of writing, you need at least one tier of Xbox Game Pass to access them. This session-based ad-supported access tier will change that.”

Given the timing of this message, it is highly likely that we will hear more officially on Microsoft’s xCloud plans during the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct showcase – which is set to go live on the 22nd of January. The console maker did state previously that the showcase will focus on 3 titles in particular, but Microsoft does typically like to throw in something about xCloud / Game Pass, and so it’s possible we will learn more officially then.

Leaker claims Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake will be announced this year

20 janvier 2026 à 13:00

Capcom has long been a fan of remaking its classic titles, with the Resident Evil series in particular seeing various remakes/re-imaginings over the years. With RE4 being the latest entry in the series to receive the remake treatment, many fans have wondered which entry is next-in-line. According to a known Capcom insider, a remake for Resident Evil Code Veronica is currently in the works – with plans to officially announce it “later this year.”

Taking to Twitter, known Capcom leaker DuskGolem commented on recent rumours suggesting that following RE4, Resident Evil 5 will be next in line to be remade, writing:

“No, there is NOT a Resident Evil 5 Remake that's going to be announced this year. Instead, later this year a RE Remake that starts with ‘(C)’ & ends ‘(ode Veronica)’ is going to be announced, I promise you.”

Code Veronica Capcom

As mentioned, DuskGolem has accurately leaked plenty of Capcom games in the past – especially Resident Evil – and so it is safe to assume that this is the publisher’s current plan.

Of course, things could change, but with Code Veronica being a PS2 generation title and RE5 originally releasing on the PS3 / Xbox 360, one would clearly benefit more from a remake when compared to the other.

That said, all eyes right now are on the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, and so don’t expect to hear from this remake officially until RE9 is released at the very least.

Storytelling is also handled through a “Codex” system, where players unlock audio logs, cryptic graffiti, and recovered text data found during their runs. This discoverable narrative allows players to piece together the history of Tau Ceti IV.

Tides of Tomorrow launch has been rescheduled to implement player improvements

20 janvier 2026 à 09:53

THQ Nordic and developer DigixArt have officially announced a delay for their upcoming sci-fi narrative adventure, Tides of Tomorrow. Originally set to make its debut on February 24th, the game is now scheduled to launch on April 22nd. The development team explained that the decision to push the release came after analysing feedback from the public playable demo and an ongoing closed beta.

According to the publisher, this extra time is essential for the studio to appropriately respond to player input and implement necessary technical and mechanical improvements to ensure the final product delivers the experience fans expect from the creators of Road 96.

For those who haven't been following the project, Tides of Tomorrow is an ambitious first-person adventure set on the flooded ocean planet of Elynd. The world is dying from a mysterious disease called Plastemia, which slowly turns living beings into plastic, and players take on the role of a Tidewalker tasked with finding a cure. The game's primary innovation is its “asynchronous narrative multiplayer” system, in which others' actions directly shape your story. At the start of a journey, you choose to follow a friend, a stranger, or even a favourite streamer, and their past decisions create “echoes” in your world. If the person you follow was hostile to a particular floating community, you might find that settlement abandoned or guarded when you arrive, forcing you to deal with the consequences of a journey you didn't even take.

The gameplay involves navigating open waters in a boat, exploring floating settlements, and managing resources. While the experience is primarily solo, the constant presence of other players' “visions” is designed to create a sense of community. NPCs react to you based on their memories of the player you are following, creating a unique branching narrative where no two playthroughs are the same. DigixArt noted that the complexity of this collaborative storytelling system makes the additional development time particularly important to ensure that these interconnected choices feel impactful to the player. Tides of Tomorrow will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

KitGuru says: While a delay is never ideal for those eager to play a game, taking two months to polish the game based on user feedback is a smart move. Better late and good than quick and rushed.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown officially surpasses 7 million copies sold

19 janvier 2026 à 18:00

The Ace Combat series is easily the most well known in the combat flight sim genre, with the franchise stretching all the way back to 1995. The latest entry, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown launched back in 2019 has continued to see consistent sales. Following the official and long-awaited announcement of Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, the team have revealed that Skies Unknown has now exceeded 7 million copies sold.

Late last year, in the lead up to the game’s 7th anniversary, Team Aces revealed that 2019’s Ace combat 7 was closing in on 7 million copies sold.

Cut to a month later and the latest entry has now officially hit the 7 million mark in alignment with the game’s 7th birthday – with the team taking to Twitter to say:

“#ACECOMBAT7 SKIES UNKNOWN has now been available for seven years and has surpassed 7 million copies sold worldwide. We are deeply grateful that so many players have continued flying with us for so long. We look forward to meeting you again in the next skies.”

Ace Combat 7 million

As with all previous sales milestones, a commemorative wallpaper was released to celebrate the occasion. For context, Ace Combat 7 has been a consistent seller for many years now, with the 2019 title hitting 4 million copies in late 2022; 5 million by the end of 2023; 6 million in early 2025 and now 7 million.

With its successor set to launch some time this year, it will be interesting to see how many copies Skies Unknown will have sold when all is said and done.

Yakuza 3 Remastered to be soft-delisted following the launch of Kiwami 3

19 janvier 2026 à 17:00

While SEGA is generally loved by many in today’s day and age, the game publisher is not free from controversy, with game preservation being a particular issue at SEGA – especially when it comes to older titles which have since been re-released. Ahead of the official arrival of Yakuza 3 Kiwami in February, SEGA have confirmed that the original Yakuza 3 Remastered will soon no longer be purchasable standalone.

Ahead of the launch of Yakuza 3 Kiwami and Dark Ties, the team at RGG studio took to Twitter to announce that the arrival of the remake will coincide with the near-complete-removal of 2021’s more rudimentary remaster, writing:

“Those who already own ‘Yakuza 3 Remastered’ will still be able to continue playing it. For those new to the series who wish to experience the original version, it will be available with purchase of the ‘Yakuza Complete Series’ bundle.”

Yakuza Kiwami

While worded somewhat awkwardly, in essence, the original Yakuza 3 Remaster will no longer be purchasable following the arrival of Kiwami, with the only way to obtain it being through the Yakuza Complete Series package which includes 7 titles (currently costing a total of over £100.)

This isn’t the first time that SEGA has done something like this, with the release of Sonic x Shadow Generations coinciding with a similar soft-delisting of the original game – also only being purchasable through a bundle.

While a close experience to their original counterparts, the Kiwami remakes are very much their own thing, and so it is disappointing to once again see SEGA making the original experience harder to obtain in favour of the remake. Hopefully they reverse course at some point.

Genshin Impact will soon no longer be exclusive to Epic on PC, according to dataminers

19 janvier 2026 à 16:00

The massive success of Genshin Impact helped put the studio MiHoYo (now HoYoVerse) on the map, with the highly-popular open-world gacha title being followed up by other successes including Zenless Zone Zero and Honkai Star Rail. Up until now, HoYo’s games have been exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC. This appears to be finally changing however, with evidence pointing towards an upcoming Steam release.

As discovered by Reddit user ‘hzy980512’ HoyoVerse’s account management system was recently updated to include some Steam-related strings in its ‘localized message file’ indicating that the developer’s suite of popular titles could soon be making their way onto Steam.

As mentioned, Epic and HoYoVerse struck a deal back in the day, with all of the studio’s releases being exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC. For better or for worse, Genshin Impact; ZZZ and Honkai Star Rail have all found massive audiences and so it being limited to Epic’s platform does present a bit of a barrier to entry.

Genshin Epic

As such, not only will it be interesting to see how many more players HoYo’s games manage to pick up upon its expected Steam release, but will also offer us a public look at player numbers for the first time – on one platform at least.

Regardless, having HoYoVerse’s library of games on Steam will be a massive boon to both the studio itself and Valve’s platform. Hopefully an official announcement is on its way sooner rather than later.

Indie hit Sea of Stars comes to Android / iOS in April

19 janvier 2026 à 15:00

Sea of Stars is an indie RPG from Sabotage Studio – the team that brought you 2018’s excellent retro action-platformer The Messenger. Launching to near-universal acclaim back in 2023, the indie game of the year winner received a number of notable updates including the addition of 3-player couch co-op. Following a bout of silence, the team have now announced that Sea of Stars is officially coming to Android and iOS.

Releasing a brief trailer, publisher Playdigious announced that the excellent indie RPG Sea of Stars is officially coming to mobile platforms in a few months’ time – arriving on both Android / iOS on the 7th of April 2026.

Set to cost $9.9https://youtu.be/PsfCcm1PL_k?si=gX-wOCeWGtaWGmN09 ($8.99 with a 10% launch discount), Sea of Stars is said to have been “carefully redesigned for mobile” with the following features:

  • Revamped interface – exclusive mobile UI with complete touch control
  • Google Play Games / iOS achievements
  • Cloud Save – share your progress between devices (within the same OS family)
  • Compatible with controllers

Playdigious is one of the biggest publishers for mobile ports of console games, with the likes of Little Nightmares; Dead Cells; Streets of Rage 4; TMNT Shredder's Revenge and more all being ported over.

As smartphones continue to increase in both power and capability, it is encouraging to see more full-blown games being brought over to the platform.

Steam updates its gen-AI disclosure policies

19 janvier 2026 à 14:00

Back when we first started to see evidence of generative AI being used in the development of video games, Valve was pretty quick on the draw to set up parameters on their Steam store requiring developers to disclose their use of gen-AI. As the discussion surrounding the controversial technology continues to evolve, Valve have now updated their policy with a greater level of transparency.

As reported by the agency ‘GameDiscoverCo’ via BlueSky, Valve recently updated their AI dev disclosure form to allow studios to differentiate between the varying uses and implementations of gen-AI.

Now, instead of a blanket “does this game use AI?” there are three different levels of usage which developers can disclose – with the questions now being as follows:

  • “Does this game use generative artificial intelligence to generate content for the game, either pre-rendered or live-generated? This includes the game itself, the storepage, and any Steam community assets or marketing materials.”
  • “Do you use Al to generate pre-rendered content for your game, its store page, marketing materials, and/or community assets?”
  • “Do you use AI to live-generate content or code during gameplay?”

Steam Gen-Ai

With these three different parameters in place, developers now only need to disclose the use of AI publicly if it “ships with your game, and is consumed by players” – meaning the use of the technology during coding for example does not need to be elaborated on.

As gen-AI continues to change and evolve, it is likely that Valve could go back and revisit these rules once again. Regardless, it is good to have any form of AI disclosure in this day and age. Hopefully more storefronts follow suit.

KitGuru says: What do you think of these updated parameters? Is it more fair to developers in this way? What’s your stance on gen-AI? Let us know down below.
