You can play Marathon for free later this month ahead of March launch
Bungie's Marathon seems to be garnering some good impressions following the most recent playtests. Last night as part of the State of Play showcase, we got our latest look at the game, which has now been reworked with new assets following an artist dispute last year.
The latest trailer for Marathon includes a mix of cinematic and gameplay footage entirely captured on PC, which is interesting given that Bungie is now a PlayStation studio. Just like Destiny, Marathon will be a fully multiplatform title, landing on PC, PS5 and Xbox consoles, complete with crossplay and cross-save functionality.
Marathon is Bungie's foray into the extraction shooter genre and a number of improvements have been added to the game since last year's playtests. Crucially, proximity chat is one of the new additions made to the game after the delay – a feature that many players had insisted should be present at launch.
For those who aren't sold on Marathon as a premium title yet, there will be a new open playtest taking place across all platforms from February 26th to March 2nd, giving you ample time to download and try the game for free before its launch. If you end up enjoying it, then the final, full game will be available from March 5th, so you won't have to wait long between the playtest ending and the final launch. However, this does also mean that some issues present in the playtest version may also not be fixed in time for the final release.
KitGuru Says: I have yet to try Marathon, so I'll give it a go during the upcoming playtest. Are you thinking about picking this game up next month?
