Halo Infinite Is Officially Getting a Third-Person Mode This November

Par : Alex Stedman
5 octobre 2024 à 01:03

In some major (and pretty surprising) news for Halo fans, Halo: Infinite is finally getting a third-person mode this November.

343 Industries announced the news on Friday during a Forge panel at the 2024 Halo World Championship. For those who aren't at the event, the announcement was also posted on X/Twitter, including a bit of work-in-progress footage of third-person mode in action:

Experience a new way to play!

— Halo (@Halo) October 4, 2024

As fans will know, this marks the first time a third-person mode has ever been officially offered in a Halo game. Senior community manager John "Unyshek" Junyszek and Skybox Labs senior software engineer Colin Cove offered a bit more information at the Halo World Championship panel, saying they'll be starting with third-person Firefight mode in a future update, "but we also have the ability to do in PvP and control it in Forge," per Cove.

They clarified that third-person will be supported at the mode level and that, with Forge controls, modes can switch individual players (or all players) between first- and third-person perspective whenever desired. It's currently unclear if it will be available in campaign mode or restricted to multiplayer.

While this is the first time third-person mode has been available on an official level, a number of mods have added it to the game over the years and have been largely well-received by the community.

Halo Infinite first launched in 2021, receiving a number of new maps, modes, quality-of-life improvements, and other additions over the years. Some fans, however, had started to note a general lack of developer-made additional content for this year. With the Halo World Championship well underway, we wouldn't be surprised if more Halo-related announcements were made through the weekend.

Zelda Was Haley Joel Osment's Star Wars, and He Wants to Be in the Live-Action Movie

Par : Alex Stedman
4 octobre 2024 à 19:00

We can guess that there are plenty of Hollywood stars who want to appear in the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, and Haley Joel Osment is one of them.

Osment stopped by our IGN Arcade series to look back at movies like The Sixth Sense as well as talk about his most recent film, Blink Twice. But, as part of the show, he also played a little bit of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, which is when he asked, "Are they ever gonna make a movie out of [The Legend of Zelda]?"

When we told him that yes, there is a live-action film on the way and asked him if he'd want to throw his hat in the ring, Osment didn't hesitate.

"Oh, my hat's in the ring, they know my hat's been in the ring," he said. "Link was like 37 when he did all this, right!? Seventeen, 37? As a kid, I was like, 'obviously they're gonna make [Ocarina of Time] a movie soon, the story's all written out for you!' And you're like, 'that'd be very challenging to make into a compelling two-hour movie.' "

As far as what Zelda lore he'd like to see in the film, Osment said, "Ocarina and Majora's Mask, those are my original Star Wars [trilogy]."

Nintendo and Sony Pictures first made the massive announcement about a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie last November, with Wes Ball (The Maze Runner, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) set to direct and Avi Arad and Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto producing. Unfortunately for Osment and other Zelda fans hungry for information, Ball refused to reveal his favorite Zelda game in a previous IGN interview, so we'll likely have to wait and see if he's an Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask fan like Osment.

"Ocarina and Majora's Mask, those are my original Star Wars [trilogy]."

We've gotten a few other pieces of information since then, including the fact that Ball plans to take a "grounded" approach to adapting The Legend of Zelda. We still don't have other key pieces of information however, including castings and a release date.

Haley Joel Osment Reacts to Potentially Saying Goodbye to Sora After Kingdom Hearts 4

Par : Alex Stedman
4 octobre 2024 à 18:57

Haley Joel Osment has been the voice of Kingdom Hearts protagonist Sora for more than 20 years now, but it might almost be time to say goodbye.

Osment sat down with us recently for an episode of IGN Arcade where he reflected on his career, discussed his gaming habits, and more. But he also looked forward to Kingdom Hearts 4, which he admitted he has little information on as of yet.

"I hope that we hear something about [Kingdom Hearts 4] sometime soon, I guess it's rumored that there's going to be another one," he said. "I'm always the last to know, because I'm the last step in the process. So hopefully, sometime soon, I'll be back in the studio finding out what happened to everybody."

Luckily, we were able to inform him that Square Enix did confirm that a fourth mainline game was on the way. Not only that, but Kingdom Hearts 4 co-director, co-writer, and lead artist Tetsuya Nomura said in a recent interview that the upcoming sequel would move the story of the series toward its end. With that news, Osment had this to say about potentially getting ready to say goodbye to Sora:

"You know, I'm sure that [Nomura] has great plans to wrap it up in a satisfying way. And I think that sometimes that's the best thing to do, even if you have something that you love and you feel like you want to play it forever, to tie it up in a nice way and not let it drag out beyond where the creator wants it to go. I think that's the way to go. And clearly there's many, many hours of gameplay for people to go back and revisit."

Osment first voiced Sora in the 2002 original Kingdom Hearts and has since reprised the role in a whopping 11 games since then, in addition to providing voicework for the character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He also voices Vanita in the series.

Square Enix first officially announced Kingdom Hearts 4 back in 2022, but we've gotten precious little information since then, and it was a no-show at this year's Summer Game Fest. For everything we do know so far, check out our roundup, and watch the full IGN Arcade episode below:

Five Nights at Freddy's Star Teases 'Bigger' Sequel: 'The World Just Opens Up in a Big Way'

Par : Alex Stedman
4 octobre 2024 à 18:49

Five Nights at Freddy's star Josh Hutcherson is dropping some hints about the upcoming sequel, teasing that it will be both "bigger" and "scarier" than its predecessor when it hits theaters sometime next year.

Hutcherson, who's headed to New Orleans to start the three-month shoot in just a few weeks, spoke about the film in a new interview with Esquire, calling it "much bigger; the stakes are higher."

“There’s more animatronics being brought in, different animatronics being brought in, and the world just opens up in a big way," he continued. "We’re finding the balance right now of building this world and expanding it in a really cool way but also making sure the characters stay really grounded."

That grounded approach, Hutcherson said, is something the team really "fought for" in the first Five Nights at Freddy's film, given how "out-there" the world of the wildly popular games is.

"It’s so over-the-top and wacky, in a way, that to find the emotional truth of the characters was gonna be what was gonna work," he said. "I think the fans are gonna flip for it. It’s gonna be a lot of fun with the source. It’s gonna be scarier, too, actually.”

That last sentence should be good news to fans, some of which bemoaned the lack of scares in the PG-13 film. IGN was among those to call it out in our 4/10 review, with A.A. Dowd writing that it had "has too much plot and not enough of the game's primal security-cam thrills."

"I think the fans are gonna flip for it. It’s gonna be a lot of fun with the source."

Negative reviews didn't stop Five Nights at Freddy's from becoming a smash hit, however. It broke multiple box office records on its way to $291 million worldwide. It's currently the biggest film ever for Blumhouse Productions, the prolific horror studio behind the video game adaptation.

Hutcherson is returning in the sequel as Mike, the down-on-his-luck security guard who unforunately got assigned to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, drawing him and his little sister into the frightening world of the animatronics there. When asked in the Esquire interview if he might be game to return for more Five Nights at Freddy's beyond the sequel, given the incredibly vast lore that's been built across the games and tie-in material, Hutcherson played it coy, telling the publication that "you never know."

“I mean, I love working in this world," he said. "Emma Tammi, our director, is phenomenal, and with my character, Mike, I think the possibilities are endless. This could have a very potentially long run and it could be a lot of fun, but at this point we’re focusing on the second movie. We’ll see what comes after that.”

For more on Five Nights at Freddy's 2 in the meantime, check out the previous first look at the sequel, including some early glimpses at a new animatronic and the first page of the screenplay.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Is Getting a AAA RPG With Saber Interactive and Paramount Game Studios - EXCLUSIVE

Par : Alex Stedman
3 octobre 2024 à 15:00

Avatar: The Last Airbender is getting its first AAA game, IGN can exclusively reveal.

Paramount Game Studios and Saber Interactive announced today a new action-RPG based in what's called in the Avatar Legends universe, the label based on the world first introduced by Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender. It's in collaboration with Avatar Studios, the division launched by original show creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko in 2021 with the goal of expanding the Avatar universe.

It's still in early development, so details are a little slim at the moment, but the companies call it "the biggest video game in franchise history." It will be made for both PC and consoles and tell a new story in the universe that's being developed in "close collaboration" with Avatar Studios, the announcement notes.

It'll put players in the role of an "all-new, never-before-seen Avatar" and take place thousands of years in the past. According to Paramount and Saber, players "can expect to be immersed in a vibrant world, master all four elements, engage in dynamic combat alongside companions, and experience the challenges and decisions that come with being the keeper of balance in the world." It adds that, story-wise, it'll feature elements both new and familiar to fans of the franchise.

“We know loyal fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender have been eager for more stories that bring them into the universe of the show, and through gaming, we’re able to expand the world-building and allow fans to experience the new content in a completely immersive way,” said Doug Rosen, SVP, Games and Emerging Media at Paramount. “Saber Interactive has a proven track record in bringing IP-based games to life, and we are excited to co-fund this AAA title alongside them and let fans experience this world first-hand.”

“At Saber, we are all truly fans of the IP we work with,” said Josh Austin, Head of IP Development & Licensing, Saber Interactive. “Our team members are some of the most devoted, passionate creatives out there and it’s an honor to join forces with Avatar Studios and Paramount Games to further expand the Avatar Legends universe in video games. This unique co-fund structure is a result of our ever-expanding collaboration with Paramount, which started over a decade ago with WWZ, and we’re excited for all that’s on the horizon.”

Avatar: The Last Airbender has a long, mixed history in video games, dating back to 2006's companion game. Since then, it's released a number titles across genres and studios, with a competitive multiplayer game on the way from Maximum Entertainment and Paramount Consumer Products next year.

AEW Will Stream on Max as Part of New Multi-Year Deal

Par : Alex Stedman
2 octobre 2024 à 23:17

Big news for cord-cutting fans of All Elite Wrestling (AEW): you'll soon be able to stream AEW programming on Max, and even get pay-per-view events through the platform.

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and AEW announced in a press release on Wednesday that they've signed a multi-year renewal of their existing five-year relationship. But this new agreement expands upon their previous partnership, adding streaming rights to the mix.

As the press release explains, AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision will continue to air on Wednesdays on TBS and Saturdays on TNT, respectively. But for the first time, starting in January 2025, all AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision programming will simulcast on Max.

Additionally, sometime later in 2025, Max will begin to offer pay-per-view AEW events for a discounted price for subscribers. WBD notes that more details, including pricing info, will be shared at a later date.

The announcement also mentioned "enhanced distribution rights" for social platforms and "building opportunities" for additional AEW content across linear and digital platforms, but didn't get into more specifics.

It's a massive get for the streaming platform, with AEW quickly rising in popularity since its inception in 2019. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Variety reports that the deal is "valued at upwards of $150 million per year when all elements are taken into account."

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, AEW founder and co-owner Tony Khan said the announcement marked “biggest day in AEW’s history," adding that tonight's AEW Dynamite broadcast will include some sort of celebration for the deal.

“It’s a really exciting opportunity for us and to be trailblazers on such a massive platform. It’s really exciting for AEW to be the ones that get this opportunity,” he added. “I think there’s so much great content on the platform, and I think we can bring something new to the greatest library of film and television in the world.”

Steven Universe, Ben 10, and More Beloved Cartoon Network Shows Have Disappeared From Max Without Warning

Par : Alex Stedman
2 octobre 2024 à 20:49

It just got a bit harder to watch some of Cartoon Network's older shows.

As spotted by Gizmodo and various X/Twitter accounts this week, a number of beloved Cartoon Network series have been removed from Max as of October without warning. They include Steven Universe, Ben 10, Chowder, Regular Show, The Amazing World of Gumball, We Bare Bears, and the 2016 Powerpuff Girls revival.

- Regular Show
- The Amazing World of Gumball
- We Bare Bears
- Steven Universe pic.twitter.com/WUR63HtDgv

— ToonHive (@ToonHive) October 1, 2024

What's worse, the news comes not long after Warner Bros. Discovery shut down Cartoon Network's website, which contained clips and full episodes of the shows removed from Max this month, among many others. The Cartoon Network website now redirects to a sign-up page for Max, an irony that was not lost on some on social media this week. Warner Bros. Discovery also shuttered Boomerang, a streaming service dedicated to its throwback cartoons, just a couple of days ago.

Fans were quick to bemoan the sudden disappearances and some even wondered if the shows might've been removed in error, especially given the popularity of some of them. IGN has reached out to Max for comment, but a source with knowledge of the situation tells us this was part of a standard content update for the streaming platform.

It's also worth noting that the image for the Kids and Family hub on Max seems to have changed in the wake of the news. What used to be an image of Bugs Bunny flanked by Steven Universe and Gumball sees the latter two replaced by a Carebear and Fred Flintstone.

Ben 10 (2016) got removed too.

Max has notably updated its artwork for the Kids & Family hub to replace Gumball and Steven with a Care Bear and Fred Flintstone. (Jesus are they actually doing this?) pic.twitter.com/x5ZcHF3yWx

— CN News/Schedules (@CNschedules) October 1, 2024

Luckily, it doesn't appear to be a sweep of all archival Cartoon Network content; Max like includes other popular shows from the network like Adventure Time, Batwheels, Craig of the Creek, and Teen Titans Go!, and many of the removed series are available on other streaming platforms like Hulu. Still, for many, it's just another damning sign of how WBD has treated Cartoon Network and its animated library at large.

"Happy 32nd anniversary I guess," wrote one fan. "Seriously I’ve never seen a whole brand be mistreated as badly as Cartoon Network is right now. It’s disgusting."

Cartoon Network's linear TV channel is still active, but fans have long been worried about the channel and its archives, causing #RIPCartoonNetwork to trend earlier this year. Cartoon Network moved out of its famous Burbank, California, studio last year, with staff relocating to a building shared with Warner Bros. Animation workers.

Live-Action Rugrats Movie in the Works With CGI Babies

Par : Alex Stedman
2 octobre 2024 à 19:39

Rugrats is getting revived once again, and this time, it's in live-action (kind of, anyway).

Paramount Pictures is officially developing a live-action Rugrats movie, Deadline first reported on Wednesday. But, as Variety added in a report shortly after, it'll be a CGI/live-action hybrid, with the actual babies (Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, and Phil and Lil DeVille) in CGI. Variety compares the approach to being similar to that of Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog movies, which has the video game characters animated within a real-world setting, surrounded by live-action actors.

Jason Moore, whose credits include comedies like Pitch Perfect, Sisters, and Shotgun Wedding, is on board to direct. Saturday Night Live star Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidell wrote the script.

We don't know too much else yet about the plot of the upcoming Rugrats movie yet, as Paramount hasn't released an official synopsis. Variety notes that it's unclear which other characters outside of the titular Rugrats will appear, although it's hard to imagine them without their parents, their older bully Angelica, or even their dog Spike.

Rugrats launched in 1991 on Nickelodeon, following a group of toddlers in their day-to-day lives and whatever adventures they managed to get into. It proved to be a massive success, finally ending in 2004 after 172 episodes and nine seasons. It spawned the spinoff series All Grown Up!, two standalone animated feature films and a crossover movie with The Wild Thornberries, and a bevy of other tie-in media across video games, comic books, and more.

If that weren't enough, Rugrats also got a 3D-animated reboot for Paramount+ in 2021, showing there's still clearly plenty of interest in the trouble-making babies. IGN gave the reboot's premiere a 6/10, with Kristy Puchko writing, "While the endearing aspects of mud pies and diaper humor remain in the Rugrats reboot on Paramount+, the series has lost its creative edge with this 3D animation update."

John Amos, Star of Good Times and Roots, Dies at 84

Par : Alex Stedman
2 octobre 2024 à 01:53

John Amos, the veteran actor best known for his roles as the family patriarch in Good Times and as the adult Kunta Kinte in the miniseries Roots, has passed away. He was 84.

His son, K.C. Amos, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that he died of natural causes on August 21 in Los Angeles.

“He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold … and he was loved the world over," K.C. Amos said in a statement. "Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”

Before turning to acting full-time, Amos had a brief professional football career, playing in a number of minor leagues. He signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1967, but was cut after three weeks, with coach Hank Stram telling him, “You are not a football player, you are a young man who happens to be playing football.”

Luckily, it didn't take Amos very long to start securing TV roles. He first became known for his role as weatherman Gordy Howard in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, in which he appeared from 1970 to 1973.

But he really rose to prominence after he left The Mary Tyler Moore Show for Good Times, a spinoff of Maude. Amos played James Evans Sr. in the sitcom, the tough-but-loving family patriarch of the central family living in inner-city Chicago.

Good Times was groundbreaking for the period, featuring one of the first all-Black casts in American sitcom history and often tackling difficult issues much in the way Norman Lear's other shows did. But Amos, famously, clashed with the writing staff about how the family was being portrayed. Amos talked about his disagreements between himself, Lear, and the writing staff in a 2014 interview with the TV Academy:

“I felt too much emphasis was being put on JJ in his chicken hat, saying ‘Dy-no-mite!’ every third page," Amos said. "I felt just as much emphasis and mileage could have been gotten out of my other two children, one of whom aspired to become a supreme court justice, played by Ralph Carter, and the other, Bern Nadette Stanis, who aspired to become a surgeon."

"Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life."

Amos' character was written out of the show in the two-part Season 4 premiere, with James being killed in a car accident.

Still, one of Amos' most famous roles would come shortly after that. He played the adult Kunta Kinte (with LeVar Burton playing the younger version of the character) in lauded 1977 miniseries Roots, which would become a massive cultural landmark and was nominated for 37 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning nine of them. Amos was among one of the nominations, scoring a nod for Outstanding Lead Actor for a Single Appearance in a Drama or Comedy Series.

Amos is also well known for his roles in Coming to America and its sequel, as well as The Beastmaster, Lock Up, and Die Hard 2. He played himself in the 2019 Adam Sandler thriller Uncut Gems.

DC Studios Is Making an Animated Film Following the Origins of Two Robins

Par : Alex Stedman
2 octobre 2024 à 01:09

DC Studios is leaning more into animation, announcing a new project today that'll tell the origin story of two Robins.

The news broke in Deadline today, with the new film, titled Dynamic Duo, being greenlit as the first joint project between DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation. It'll follow the early days of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.

"The duo call themselves the Dynamic Duo," the synopsis in Deadline reads. "They’re orphan thieves, best friends who share dreams of a better life, but their friendship will be tested by competing visions of a future out of which will come a new Dynamic Duo…."

Gunn also confirmed the news on his social media accounts.

Over the moon excited to announce the newest DC Studios/Warner Bros Pictures Animation greenlit film for theaters, DYNAMIC DUO, the story of Robin… or should I say, Robins, as in Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The first feature film from the visionary Swaybox, a mix of animation,… pic.twitter.com/IBBMgP1riP

— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) October 1, 2024

Dynamic Duo will be directed by Arthur Mintz, who's making the film with his new animation studio Swaybox, created by himself and his wife Theresa Andersson. Interestingly, per the report, Swaybox will use a mix of animation, puppetry, CGI, and live-action performance.

DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran will produce Dynamic Duo, as will The Batman director Matt Reeves. The Deadline report notes, however, that Dynamic Duo will not be connected to Reeves' Batman and The Penguin canon.

While Dynamic Duo is the first animated film officially announced from the newly revamped DC Studios, it won't be the first animated project overall. Animated series Creature Commandos will kick off Gunn's rebooted DC Universe in earnest when it premieres on Max on December 5.

Once that show premieres, the ball will officially be rolling on Gunn's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, the first phase of his revamped DCU. The first big-screen entry will be the highly anticipated Superman, which is set for July 11, 2025.

Daniel Day-Lewis Is Coming Out of Acting Retirement for His Son's Film

Par : Alex Stedman
2 octobre 2024 à 00:39

After seven years away, Daniel Day-Lewis is officially returning to acting.

Focus Features and Plan B Entertaiment announced on Tuesday that Day-Lewis will be starring in Anemone, which will also see his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, making his feature directorial debut. The father/son duo also co-wrote the script, which "explores the intricate relationships between fathers, sons and brothers, and the dynamics of familial bonds," per Focus' official logline.

Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green will also star.

Anemone marks Daniel Day-Lewis' first role since Phantom Thread in 2017, which is the same year that he made the shocking announcement that he would be quitting acting: “Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor," his spokesperson said at the time. "He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject."

Since then, the Oscar-winner has indeed stayed away from acting and out of the public eye altogether. Still, Martin Scorsese, who famously directed Day-Lewis in Gangs of New York, previously teased doing "one more" film with the previously retired actor.

Rumors had started to emerge that Day-Lewis would be returning to the screen earlier on Tuesday, with the Daily Mail publishing paparazzi photos seemingly showing him on a set with Bean.

Among his many accolades, Daniel Day-Lewis has won Academy Awards for his roles in My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood, and Lincoln. Ronan Day-Lewis, meanwhile, is an accomplished painter, and his debut international solo exhibition opens on October 2 in Hong Kong.

Nintendo Switch Emulator Ryujinx Seemingly Ceases Development Following Pressure From Nintendo

Par : Alex Stedman
1 octobre 2024 à 21:57

It looks like popular Nintendo Switch emulator Ryujinx is no more.

One of its developers, riperiperi, announced the news on its Discord server today, saying that lead developer gdkchan "was contacted by Nintendo and offered an agreement to stop working on the project, remove the organization and all related assets he's in control of."

"While awaiting confirmation on whether he would take this agreement, the organization has been removed, so I think it's safe to say what the outcome is," riperiperi continues. The message, which you can read below, was also posted on Ryujinx's X/Twitter account.

pic.twitter.com/2Ggt9SWoDI

— Ryujinx (@RyujinxEmu) October 1, 2024

It also came just hours after some users raised concerns, noticing that Ryujinx's Github page currently leads to a 404 message. Others pointed out Ryujinx's download page also wasn't loading, sparking more concern for the emulation project. Amid the speculation, one of the Discord's mods assured fans that an announcement was coming, asking them to not spread misinformation in the meantime.

As it says on its website, Ryujinx is an open-source Nintendo Switch emulator written in C# for Windows, Linux and macOS. It began as a single-developer project in 2017, collecting a small team of developers along the way.

Today's news is only the latest in Nintendo's ongoing crackdown on emulators following its lawsuit against Tropic Haze, creators of the popular Switch emulator Yuzu. Tropic Haze paid $2.4 million in damages in the settlement, and Yuzu was shut down entirely. Nintendo claimed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was pirated 1 million times before its release in the lawsuit, and issued a takedown notice for more than 8,500 copies of code of Yuzu in May.

Scream 7 Finally Gets 2026 Release Date After Multiple Big Shake-Ups

Par : Alex Stedman
1 octobre 2024 à 19:59

Following a ton of behind-the-scenes drama and overhauls, Scream 7 finally has a release date: February 27, 2026.

Neve Campbell, who's reprising her role as Sidney Prescott in the sequel, and director Kevin Williamson announced the news on Tuesday, which was subsequently confirmed with press releases from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media. It's currently the only movie set for that date, although the weekend before sees the premiere of a new Cat in the Hat movie starring Bill Hader, and Disney has planted a flag on the February 13 date for an untitled Marvel movie.

It's big news for a movie that, at one point, seemed like it might no longer be on the way after a tumultuous cycle of development. Star Melissa Barrera was fired from the movie back in November 2023 after a series of social media posts about the conflict in Gaza. Just a day after that news dropped, it was also revealed that star Jenna Ortega would not be returning for Scream 7, meaning both of the Carpenter sisters who have been at the center of the series since 2022's Scream were no longer attached.

Last December, director Christopher Landon also exited Scream 7, saying in a somber statement that "it was a dream job that turned into a nightmare." Since then, Williamson, who wrote the first Scream movie as well as Scream 2 and Scream 4, has taken over as director.

Scream and Scream 6 directing duo Radio Silence announced in August 2023 that they wouldn't be returning to direct Scream 7, but they are still attached as executive producers. Guy Busick, who co-wrote the previous two films in the series, is returning to write the screenplay.

It's unclear what kind of direction Scream 7 will take with the absence of the Carpenter sisters and the return of Campbell, and Paramount Pictures hasn't released an official synopsis or logline yet. Still, today's release date news is a major sign that development is well underway.

In the meantime, check out our 9/10 review of Scream 6, where Amelia Emberwing wrote that it "doesn’t achieve perfection, but by highlighting the newly dubbed Core Four, hitting all the right emotional beats, and dialing the brutality up to eleven, it comes dang close."

Highlights of the patch include 13 new endings for players doing evil runs, including unique new endings for each Origin character, as well as revamped split-screen. But the real highlight is the new Mod Manager, allowing console players to take advantage of the bevy of mods players have made for the hit RPG.

Patch 7 hit PC a little less than a month ago, bringing with it the official mod toolkit. Since then, Larian says on its Steam page, players have uploaded 1,000 mods and racked up more than 15 million downloads.

While console players can't use the official toolkit to create mods, they can now use those that have been made with the toolkit, and that have passed internal testing. There are currently 69 mods that have passed internal testing, and Larian says more will become available on console and Mac as they continue to test them.

Larian also released a couple of videos to celebrate the news: a fresh animated short in collaboration with Mashed and Spud Gun Studios (nice bowl cut, Astarion) and one highlighting five mods that console and Mac users can now get their hands on.

The absolutely massive Patch 7 includes even more than mods and new evil endings, also adding Honour Mode improvements, new Legendary Actions, and various gameplay improvements and bug fixes. Larian also notes that Hotfixes #26 and #27 are available on all platforms today as well.

Patch 7 was long rumored to be Larian's last update to Baldur's Gate 3, although the studio clarified last month that it's not the final patch after all — but declined to offer specifics on what's to come.
