Lanterns ‘Is In a Lot Of Ways About Replacement’ and ‘That Push And Pull Between’ Hal Jordan and John Stewart

28 octobre 2025 à 22:02

Lanterns showrunner Chris Mundy has shed some additional light on his upcoming HBO series about DC Comics’ Green Lantern Corps characters Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), calling it “as much of a buddy cop show as a superhero show.”

According to the series’ official logline. Lanterns “follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

“Our show is in a lot of ways about replacement—when should someone step aside and when is it time for the next person to take the reins?,” Mundy revealed in a new Men’s Health profile of rising star Aaron Pierre.

Mundy continued: “That push and pull between those two characters is really important. So much of the power that John has is by not taking the bait, understanding that you lose your power if you’re yelling and screaming. That’s what we’re trying to convey: He knows he belongs, so he doesn’t have to overcompensate. There’s a real balance there that’s just innately inside of Aaron. He’s big. He’s an intimidating presence just physically. But there’s a softness to him too. There’s a thoughtfulness. You can’t teach that.”

The Lanterns showrunner added that “Aaron felt a responsibility, especially as a Black man playing this particular role, to make sure he really understood him and brought him to life. … I think fans will see the reverence he has for it, and that goes a long way.”

Pierre told the magazine that, for him, John Stewart “just radiates strength and fortitude. … That hunger to be the best version of yourself, which also holds you accountable when you’re not.”

Lanterns won’t be Pierre’s first brush with comic book adaptations. He was among the cast of the SyFy television series Krypton and, according to James Gunn, Pierre was up for the role of Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Then at one point in the movie’s tortured production history, Pierre was cast in Marvel’s Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali. That project and his participation in it eventually fell apart, something that still disappoints the English actor.

“I remember being cast in Blade and feeling elated. But something I learned during that time was that until you step foot on the set, you haven’t commenced work,” Pierre told Men’s Health. “It just took a different creative direction, and I was no longer a part of it. You have to accept that.”

Lanterns will premiere on HBO sometime next year.

Save 46% Off the Exceptionally Tiny Baseus Picogo Ultra Mini Qi2 MagSafe Power Bank

28 octobre 2025 à 22:00

Baseus recently released a new "ultra mini" variant of its Picogo MagSafe power banks, and it certainly lives up to its name. Right now you can save 46% off the 5,000mAh Qi2-certified model when you apply coupon code "LZEYJ4MP" in cart, dropping the price to just $26.99 with free shipping. This is compatible with the Apple iPhone 17, Samsung Galaxy S25, and more. Baseus makes solid power banks and I recommend them as a less expensive alternative to Anker.

Baseus Picogo Ultra Mini 5,000mAh Qi2 MagSafe Power Bank

The Baseus Picogo Ultra Mini 5,000mAh power bank measures 3.4" by 2.3", about the size of a standard credit card. It's about 0.5" thick making it one of the thinnest MagSafe chargers out there, however it will still add noticeably to the overall dimensions of your phone. It's also very lightweight, coming in at just under 5 ounches. There's also a handy little kickstand so you can properly angle your phone while setting it down to watch videos.

This model has been updated with the newer Qi2/MagSafe standard, which means it can deliver up to 15W of wireless charging, double the rate of the first generation's 7.5W of inductive charging. When you need even faster charging, a USB Type-C port offers up to 20W of Power Delivery.

How many times can you charge your phone?

Macworld lists these power consumption specs (in Whr) for the iPhone 16:

  • iPhone 16: 3,561mAh 13.7Whr
  • iPhone 16 Plus: 4,674mAh 18Whr
  • iPhone 16 Pro: 3,582mAh 13.8Whr
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: 4,685mAh 18Whr

A 5,000mAh power bank carries an 18.5Whr capacity. An 80% power efficiency rating (which is about standard for power banks) gives you about 15Whr of available charge. That means this power bank will extend your iPhone 16 Plus or Pro Max battery life by up to 80% and the iPhone 16/Pro by over 100%.

Doom Arena Board Game Hands-On Preview: Rip and Tear on the Tabletop

28 octobre 2025 à 21:55

It's hard to imagine what first-person shooters would be like today, if they were to exist at all, without the original DOOM, released back on December 10, 1993, for MS-DOS. A lone super soldier, the legendary Doom Guy, fending off the hordes of demons from hell is one of the defining images of PC gaming, and the series continues to shock and amaze fans to this day with every new gory entry. Now, Modiphius Entertainment is bringing DOOM to the tabletop with the upcoming Doom Arena Board Game, now on Kickstarter, and I had a chance to get some time with a prototype to see just how well I could rip and tear in my dining room.

While Doom Arena isn't the first cardboard adaptation of the series, this latest rendition is a bloodbath contest between one player controlling Doom Guy and the other controlling the demons. Taking place in – you guessed it, an arena – the two players maneuver their plastic forces around the hexagon grid-based warzone, competing to see who can dish out the most pain.

Each point of damage done to an opponent earns you blood, which serves as a victory point.

Each point of damage done to an opponent earns you blood, which serves as a victory point. The winner is whoever comes out ahead in two out of the three rounds by earning the most blood, with each round consisting of six turns each for both sides. Between rounds, both Doom Guy and the Demons can upgrade their arsenals. Doom Guy gets new weapons and armor, while the Demons swap out weaker enemies for hartier ones like Pinky, Cacodemons, or the mighty Cyberdemon.

Doom Arena is one of those games that fits great as a filler between some heavier ones during a game day, or when you just want to have some fun while sipping a cold one and munching on some snacks. The gameplay is a slick dice-chucker where the strategy takes a back seat to running in guns blazing and seeing how much pain you unleash, which is very reminiscent of its source material. The only real "strategy" I found myself thinking about is what upgrades I was going to spend my resources on between rounds.

I appreciate the simpler ruleset behind Doom Arena, because you can explain the rules to friends pretty quickly and be rolling dice shortly after. That being said, I wouldn't complain if there were a smidgen more depth to be found. To be fair, the prototype I had access to and a work-in-progress ruleset included only two-player game modes, whereas the final game will be playable with 2-4 players, so it's possible the additional depth I am hoping for will be found in the final rules and other game modes. On the topic of game modes, I will say that having official rules for starting with more upgrades is smart, and makes for a ton of chaotic fun, and I could see some great matches happen by adopting a pick/counter-pick approach.

The version of Doom Arena that I played featured miniatures showcasing the classic looks of Doom Guy and demons that players of the original game from the '90s will recognize. But those who jumped on the chainsaw wagon in more recent decades will have a version for them, too. Modiphius is producing a mechanically identical version that instead has arenas, models, and weapons pulled from the most recent Doom: The Dark Ages, with Doom Guy replaced by the menacing Doom Slayer and demons including the Mancubus, Imps, Imp Stalkers, Hell and Battle Knights, Pinky Rider, Arachnotron, and Soldiers. And for folks who may be lacking in storage space, Modiphius will also offer a version that replaces the plastic miniatures with acrylic standees, shrinking the box size and lowering the cost.

When I first heard the announcement that Modiphius was designing a new Doom board game, my mind immediately went to images of playing as Doom Guy, exploring corridors, finding keys to unlock doors, that eventually would lead to a fight with a big scary demon. Something more akin to say a Betrayal at House on the Hill, Cthulu: Death May Die, or Zombicide. I still would love a Doom game like that, but I can't deny that Doom Arena captures the spirit of these games splendidly.

This is a series about killing as many things as fast as possible, and Arena delivers on that premise in an exciting and digestible package. Even playing dice with this WIP build led to tense moments where I had to hold my breath as I rolled my dice, or giant sighs of relief as my demons avoided being brutally dismembered by a chainsaw. I eagerly look forward to seeing what sort of additional elements or add-ons will be available to play around with and what sort of other game modes will ship in the final release that use three and four players. With the Doom Arena Board Game, Modphius looks to deliver a box that fans of both the video games and board games in general can enjoy, and I am counting down the days until I can rev up my chainsaw again and take it to some demons again.

Doom the Arena Board Game’s campaign runs until November 21, 2025 with an expected delivery date of October 2026.

The New Secretlab Magnus Evo Desk Is Now Available, Comes Highly Recommended for Gamers

28 octobre 2025 à 21:30

The Secretlab Magnus Evo is now available to purchase, and this kitted-out premium desk is one of the best options around for gaming enthusiasts. That is, of course, if you're prepared to dish out its equally premium asking price of $749..

The Magnus Evo makes a killer case for its high cost by getting all of the basics right — it's sturdy and well-made — while also offering beautifully integrated controls for adjusting height, a power supply column and magnetic cable management tray that hide away ugly cords, and a clean visual style that helps it effortlessly blend into any work or gaming setup.

These features make the Magnus Evo among the best gaming desks available right now. In our IGN review, we said, "The Secretlab Magnus Evo is a stylish, smartly-built gaming desk that sets itself apart with genuinely useful PC-focused features, good build quality, and an intuitive assembly process."

If this high-end desk sounds up your alley, you can buy the Magnus Evo from the official Secretlab website. The standard size (52.9 x 25.2) is $749, while the XL version (70 x 25.2) bumps things up a notch to $849.

It's worth noting that, if you have the room to accommodate a 70-inch desk, the XL provides a substantial boost to space, which can be particularly useful for setups sporting PC towers and larger monitors. For only $100 more, it can potentially save you from having to upgrade your desk again down the line if you ever need more surface space.

Additionally, the above prices for the Magnus Evo on the Secretlab website don't include any accessories you may want to add to your purchase. While it comes with the magnetic drop-down cable management tray, other options like Secretlabs' monitor arm, protective floor mat, or magnetic headphone hanger can add a bit of extra utility to your setup while maintaining the same sleek, black aesthetic as the Magnus Evo.

If the Magnus Evo doesn't tickle your fancy, you can always check out IGN's best gaming desks of 2025 to see what other options are available. There's a desk out there for everyone, after all.

New American Psycho Movie Won't Gender-Swap Serial Killer Protagonist or Star Margot Robbie

28 octobre 2025 à 20:51

The new American Psycho movie won’t gender-swap its serial killer protagonist as a recent report claimed.

In both American Psycho the book and the 2000 movie, the killer is Patrick Bateman, played in the earlier film adaptation by Christian Bale in one of his best films.

Citing “sources close to the project”, Deadline shot down The Sun’s report that Margot Robbie would star in director Luca Guadagnino‘s as the film’s titular murderer.

The Sun had claimed the “novel and the film were so controversial and the people working on the remake wanted to twist the narrative by having a female actress take on the lead of Bateman. … and by having a female killer, it puts a different spin on the crimes.”

If you’re interested in a female-led American Psycho then there’s always American Psycho II: All American Girl, a direct-to-video sequel starring Mila Kunis as a killer inspired by Patrick Bateman. The film made our list of the Top 10 movie sequels that should never have existed.

This isn’t the first proposed gender-swapped movie that Margot Robbie has been linked with. The Barbie and Suicide Squad star was previously up for a reboot of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

No official word yet on who will play Patrick Bateman in the new movie although past reports have claimed that Austin Butler is in the mix.

Guadagnino‘s American Psycho won’t be a remake of director Mary Harron’s movie but rather a more faithful adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel.

Scott Z. Burns is scripting the new film, which will be released by Lionsgate. It will be produced by Frenesy Films and executive produced by Sam Pressman.

The Popular Bambu P1S Combo 3D Printer Drops to its Lowest Price Ever at Best Buy

28 octobre 2025 à 20:20

Starting this year, Best Buy has become an official reseller of Bambu Lab 3D printers. Bambu is widely considered one of the better 3D printer brands on the market, and its most popular model is on sale today. Best Buy has the Bambu P1S Combo 3D Printer with Automatic Material System for multi-filament printing for just $549.99 after a $200 off instant discount. This printer was $899 when it first launched, but prices have been steadily dropping since then.

Bambu P1S Combo for $549.99

The Bambu P1S is the best Bambu 3D printer for most people; this is Bambu's mid-range model and offers several useful premium features at a reasonable cost. It's almost entirely fully assembled out of the box and setup should take under 15 minutes. Unlike cheaper 3D printers, the P1S features a fully enclosed chamber, which is necessary to stabilize temperature and ambient conditions in order to produce more consistent results. It boasts an acceleration speed of up to 20000 mm/s² and can print a benchy in 18 minutes. A built-in camera allows you to remotely monitor the printing process.

The P1S Combo model includes the Automatic Material System or AMS. This module basically allows for multi-filament printing, which means you can use up to four different types of filament material or colors per AMS (you can daisy chain up to four AMS to manage as many as 16 different filaments). The AMS itself normally retails $350, so it's best to get it in this combo, especially if you plan on getting it anyway in the long run.

Lenovo Legion RTX 5070 Ti Gaming PC for $1,653

The Lenovo Legion Tower 5 Gen 10 gaming PC is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card, 32GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB M.2 SSD. The processor is equipped with a 240mm liquid cooler, which is a rare upgrade for a Legion Tower 5 series PC. An 850W 80PLUS Gold power supply provides plenty of power. The case offers toolless entry and most of the components are non-proprietary, so they are easy to swap out or upgrade yourself down the road. The exception in this particular case is the CPU and motherboard.

The Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX is normally a laptop CPU

According to Lenovo's spec sheet, this PC is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU on a customized Intel HM870 mATX motherboard. The 275HX is traditionally a mobile CPU that's found in laptops, and it's important to note that mobile CPUs are soldered onto the motherboard so they can't be user-upgraded. If you don't intend on swapping the CPU on a prebuilt computer (and let's face it, most people won't), then rest assured you'll get excellent performance out of this chip. According to Passmark, the Ultra 9 275HX is roughly comparable in gaming performance to the Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF. It also has more cores (24 vs 20) for better multi-core performance.

The RTX 5070 Ti GPU has excellent 4K gaming performance

The RTX 5070 Ti is a traditional desktop model graphics card with 16GB of RAM and 1,406 AI TOPS. The RTX 5070 Ti offers the best bang for your buck in terms of 4K gaming performance. It performs neck-and-neck with the previous generation RTX 4080 Super and pulls ahead in any game that supports DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation. It is fully capable of running any game in 4K at 60fps. It also has 16GB of VRAM like the RTX 5080, making it viable for AI work.

How to Read the Percy Jackson Books in Chronological Order

28 octobre 2025 à 16:30

When it comes to fantastical book series that shaped our childhoods, Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians is one of the best. With season two of the Percy Jackson Disney+ series arriving in December 2025, we're here to lay out what makes the books so special and the order you need to read the books in to make the most of the series.

Jump to Series:

What Are the Percy Jackson Books About?

Imagine a world where modern Greek gods have children with the powers of demigods. That's the fantastical concept at the center of the Percy Jackson and The Olympians book series. Created by Rick Riordan, the stories begins following the titular son of Poseidon as he traverses the secret world of mythical gods, goddesses, and their superpowered offspring. Over the original series and two sequel series The Heroes of Olympus and The Trials of Apollo, the world has expanded massively bringing new characters and new generations of fans to the Greek-myth inspired universe that has been enchanting readers since 2005.

How Many Books are in the Series?

There are a total of 18 books in the Percy Jackson universe, which are spread across three different series. The original Percy Jackson and the Olympian series features 7 books as of 2025 with the release of Wrath of the Triple Goddess just last year.

Percy Jackson Book Sets

If you're looking to add a collection of books to your shelves at home, there are a few box sets available. Below are links to both the paperback and hardcover versions for each series:

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Books in Order

Below is how to read the Percy Jackson series chronologically. There's a bit of a time jump between The Last Olympian and Chalice of the Gods, but the timeline is further explained on Rick Riordan's website.

1. The Lightning Thief

In the original novel that sparked off the series, Percy Jackson, discovers that his normal life is not what it seems. Rather than being a normal 12 year old trying to get through school with ADHD and Dyslexia, he's actually a demigod! His life is turned upside down when he's accused of stealing Zeus' lightning bolt. It's not just that he's accused of being a thief though, as he also learns that he's the son of none other than the god Poseidon. Soon he's swept away to a summer camp for demigods known as Camp Half-Blood where he must solve the mystery of Zeus' stolen master bolt and find his way as the son of a god that he's never known.

2. The Sea of Monsters

After discovering Camp Half-Blood and his new life in the first book, in The Sea of Monsters Percy and his friends have to come together to save the place they first met. When the magic that protects the camp begins to fail the crew must head to the titular ocean in order to find a powerful artifact. But they don't have much time and in case you didn't realize the Sea of Monsters is filled with just that. Many, many dangerous creatures fill the pages of this epic adventure, as Percy navigates rough seas and family secrets as he tries to save the day.

3. The Titan’s Curse

As the title hints, this story pushes the Greek mythology of Percy Jackson into the realm of the legendary Titans. When Percy is enlisted to help his old friend Grover he knows something dangerous must have happened, but not even he can guess what's coming. New demigods are on the horizon and with them comes the threat of one of the oldest beings in the world Kronos who hasn't forgiven the teens for besting him. That's not all though as there's also the matter of a massively powerful ancient monster, and the titular curse to keep them busy.

4. The Battle of the Labyrinth

Though he's starting freshman year, things are far from normal for Percy Jackson. With the war between the Titans and the Gods threatening to spill over into every part of life he can barely catch a break, so when demon cheerleaders show up at school he can't believe his bad luck. Reimagining the classic Greek Myth of Daedalus and the Minataur, Percy and his Camp Half-Blood buds have to venture deep into the depths of the Earth to defeat the challenges of an intricate maze in order to stop the destruction of all that they hold dear.

5. The Last Olympian

It's a race to save the legendary Mount Olympus as Percy and his friends must come together in order to defeat the Titans. Luckily they've been training all year for just this but as Kronos starts his attack on New York, can the young demigods actually stand against him? This is the epic finale to the battle that began long ago in The Lightning Thief and throws the mythical world of Camp Half-Blood onto the streets of Manhattan for a world-changing fight of the ages.

The Heroes of Olympus Books in Order

1. The Lost Hero

Introducing a new roster of young characters to root for, this book centers on a demigod named Jason who loses his memory on a school trip and ends up becoming entangled in the world of the Olympians. After revealing his powers and being taken to Camp Half-Blood, Jason and his friends must help find the now missing Percy Jackson. But as they undertake their quest they discover some shocking truths about Camp Half-Blood and come up against its rival Camp Jupiter. This super fun expansion of the Percy Jackson universe melds Greek and Roman mythology to set up a whole new series of Olympian adventures!

2. The Son of Neptune

Fans were desperate to know what happened to Percy and in the second Heroes of Olympus book they got an insight into his new status quo. Just like Jason, Percy has lost his memory and in a shocking twist finds himself on the run in California with nowhere to turn. Helped by Roman deities and new friends, Percy manages to reach Camp Jupiter discovering that Camp Half-Blood isn't the only demigod training ground in America. As always Percy ends up wrapped up in a mythological battle with huge stakes but this time he's surrounded by Roman gods!

3. The Mark of Athena

What should have been a celebratory reunion for Annabeth and Percy is overshadowed by the threat of war as Camp Jupiter prepares to face down a foe of mythological proportions. The young Demigod takes center stage in this epic seafaring adventure that sees our young heroes travel to Rome in order to connect with the Demigods there, all the while Annabeth tries to work out her place in the story as the daughter of Athena and hero of Olympus.

4. The House of Hades

It's a quest to escape the underworld when Annabeth and Percy find themselves there after the events of Mark of Athena. In their journey to find the Doors of Death, the duo and their friends who are still in the mortal world will have to work together in order to survive. As if Hades wasn't enough to contend with someone trying to raise the Greek iteration of Mother Earth, Gaea, which the kids also have to stop. Who said it would be easy being a Demigod?

5. The Blood of Olympus

In the final novel from The Heroes of Olympus series, Percy and Annabeth have to battle the horror of Gaea along with their crew in order to stop the deities' horrific plan. As the title suggests she needs the blood of Demigods to truly rise but luckily the Demigods have each other, though they'll have to solve the brewing tension between Camps' Half-Blood and Jupiter before they can really come together and solve their Titan sized problem.

Bonus: The Demigod Diaries

Although not directly connected to the Heroes of Olympus series, The Demigod Diaries includes additional short stories set in the Percy Jackson universe. Also included is new artwork and some games.

The Trials of Apollo Books in Order

1. The Hidden Oracle

In the second spin-off of the Percy Jackson and the Olypians series, Zeus is back to his old terrible father shenanigans as he transforms his son — the god Apollo — into a teenager and banishes him to New York City. Once on Earth he has to enlist the help of a Demigod named Meg and of course the heroic Percy Jackson to save the day and earn the forgiveness of his father. This means he'll have to wrangle control of the Five Oracles which will take the crew on another mythologically charged adventure through Riordan's fantastical world.

2. The Dark Prophecy

Continuing the story of Apollo and his quest to find the Oracles in order to take his place as a god once again. Alongside his Demigod buddies, Apollo must venture across America in order to free the next Oracle, all the while battling against mythical creatures and the mysterious Triumvirate Holdings, along with one of its leaders Commodus. Expanding the new lore introduced in The Trials of Apollo this is a gripping continuation of the Percy Jackson series.

3. The Burning Maze

Apollo's battle against the evil emperors of Triumvirate Holdings takes center stage here as he comes up against multiple mythological creatures and famed historical figures. You'll catch appearances from Caligula, Madea, Strix, and even Caligula's favorite horse Incitatus. This is another epic adventure that pits Apollo against fearsome foes and tragic losses as he unravels the Triumvirate's shocking plans and tries to regain his immortality while keeping his friends safe. And trust us when we say that's not an easy set of responsibilities to juggle.

4. The Tyrant’s Tomb

The penultimate book in the Trials of Apollo series takes Apollo and friends to the edge as they find themselves up against the brutal Caligula and his followers. In order to help protect Camp Jupiter from the onslaught of Triumvirate Holdings, Apollo and his crew must venture into the ancient tomb of a terrifying tyrant that will put them in more danger than ever before. It'll also lead to the final trial of Apollo, which will define and seal his fate forever.

5. The Tower of Nero

In the final Trials of Apollo book the stage is set for an epic battle back in New York City. It's all been leading to this as the young god and his demigod buds have come up against their biggest foe yet. It's an epic finale with massive stakes as mythical families are reunited, friendships are tested, and Apollo finally learns whether or not he's done enough to return to his place on Mount Olympus. But if you're desperate for more stories in this universe, don't despair as there's one more standalone novel that ties into the world of Percy Jackson.

6. The Sun and the Star

Bringing two fan favorite characters to the forefront of their own story, The Sun and the Star centers on Nico di Angelo and Will Solace who were introduced in earlier Percy Jackson novels. Nico is the son of Hades which means that life is far from easy for him, and as the son of Apollo, Will has had his fair share of adventures too. But when Nico starts hearing a voice calling him to the depths of the underworld the pair are tested like never before, in this story that will sate the appetites of Percy Jackson fans everywhere, especially those who miss Camp Half-Blood.

What's Next for the Percy Jackson Series?

Following the recent release of Wrath of the Triple Goddess, Rick Riordan will be adding a final book to this trilogy. He stated this clearly in a November 2024 update where he confirmed he "will be writing the third and final ‘Senior Year Adventure’ about Percy Jackson’s quest to get into college". We don't yet know the name of the upcoming book, but we know it will somehow involve Percy acquiring his final recommendation letter. Once that book wraps up, the future of the Percy Jackson books is unclear.

As for the TV show, Disney has confirmed that season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will arrive on December 10, 2025. This is a full two years after the release of the first season, which IGN's review described as "adding a hint of modernity" to the world of gods and monsters.

Dark Forces’ Kyle Katarn Gets a Star Wars The Black Series Action Figure

28 octobre 2025 à 19:01

The classic 1995 first-person shooter Star Wars: Dark Forces is finally getting its due, in action figure form. Kyle Katarn, the hero of the video game, is getting a Star Wars The Black Series action figure. It costs $27.99 and will be available on April 1. You can preorder it now at Amazon.

Preorder the Kyle Katarn Star Wars The Black Series Action Figure

The Kyle Katarn figure is six inches tall, with a good amount of articulation. It comes with a blaster and a blue-bladed Lightsaber, with a standard blade and one that mimics the blurred swinging effect. It’s a figure that looks good enough for adults to enjoy as a collectible, but it works equally well for play, with a suggest age range of 4+.

The video game Star Wars: Dark Forces hit PC in 1995, with a port to PS1 the following year. It’s one of the early “Doom clones,” but it had strong enough story and gameplay elements to stand up on its own. Gameplay-wise, it included novel ideas like the ability to jump and duck, as well as to look up and down, all of which Doom and Doom 2 lacked.

Dark Forces is set in the (no-longer-canon) extended universe, around the time of the first Star Wars movie. It follows Kyle Katarn, a mercenary working for the Rebel Alliance, as he uncovers the Dark Troopers Project and goes about trying to stop it. This mission brings him all over the galaxy to locations like Jabba’s yacht, the Imperial mines on Gromas, inside a Star Destroyer, and more.

Star Wars: Dark Forces got the remaster treatment last year, making it accessible on modern platforms and tweaking its graphics and adding various quality-of-life improvements.

Duet Night Abyss takes place in the world of Atlasia, where tree-like crystals called Heaventrees were viewed as gifts from the gods and gave rise to a central religion called the Elysian Church. Originally, practically everyone followed this religion, but over time, groups broke off and formed their own factions.

You play through the story from the perspectives of two protagonists with very different backgrounds, and you can freely choose and deploy each of them across different chapters. You’ll meet people from several of Atlasia’s different factions, and you can unlock many of them as playable characters by using character shards, which can be obtained either by buying the exact number you need for a specific character or by collecting them through gameplay.

Characters are not sorted into tiers or star ratings, all of them are just as viable in combat as the others. There are also no character gacha banners where you have to spend resources and just hope you eventually get what you want. You can identify the character you want, gather the required crystals, and be 100% guaranteed to unlock that character.

As the developers said when we interviewed them in August, this was in response to player feedback and was with the goal of making the game more accessible to free-to-play (F2P) players. And as part of the game’s global launch rewards, players can complete events to unlock seven characters for free, giving you the opportunity to build the team you want right from the start.

No matter what characters you want to use in battle, you can equip them with both melee and ranged weapons and swap between them on the fly. Every character has access to every weapon type, so you can freely equip them however you want.

Melee weapon options include standard choices like swords, polearms, and greatswords, as well as more unique ones like the whipsword. There are also a variety of ranged options, from a bow and arrow to dual pistols, grenade launchers, and shotguns. And like characters, weapons aren’t locked behind banners and aren’t sorted into different tiers or star ratings. So you can use whichever combination of weapons you want with no optimization lost.

Combat will pit you against waves of enemies in hack-and-slash action, where you’ll mow down hordes of foes in seconds. The flow of combat stays quick thanks to the fact there are several mobility options with no stamina requirements, so no need to keep your eye on a gauge to see what moves you can use. At any time, you can sprint, use a grappling hook, dodge, jump, double jump, wall jump, or Helix Leap, which in one button press allows you to cover very long distances very quickly.

You can tackle commissions with up to three players in co-op mode, or go solo with two AI companions. There are no stamina restrictions for commissions either, so you’re not limited to only a certain amount of time you can play freely. And you can further customize your fighting style with Demon Wedges, which are versatile add-ons that you can obtain during commissions.

Demon Wedges come in three varieties: character, melee weapon, and ranged weapon. They can provide boosts to your health, crit rate, attack speed, and other attributes. These boosts are guaranteed at a set level when you acquire and upgrade them, so you don’t have to keep grinding for the same thing and hoping to get a better version. There’s no randomization involved.

On top of stat boosts, Demon Wedges can also change the mechanics of your characters’ attacks and skills, and you can combine these with certain weapon traits to customize your attack pattern. And once you’ve acquired a Demon Wedge, you can use it across as many characters or weapons as you want. So again, no need to farm for additional versions to equip multiple of them.

Characters, weapons, and Demon Wedges can all be obtained through normal gameplay. The game’s monetization model is currently focused only on cosmetics, with a range of character skins, accessories, patterns, dye colors, and weapon skins. Both outfits and weapons can be dyed, allowing for an additional level of customization.

The developers recently unveiled new skins for the characters Psyche, Rebecca, and the duo Truffle and Filbert. They also revealed Christmas-themed skins and a new sword skin called Tough Love. And as part of the game’s global launch rewards, players can get up to 107 Pristine Hourglass and Prismatic Hourglass just for logging in. These items can be used to draw new skins.

Duet Night Abyss is available to download now on PC, iOS, and Android. For more information on the world and characters, you can check out the official website. Or you can follow the game on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, or Discord to keep up with the latest news and info.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Showrunner Confirms Plans to Reveal the Stranger's Connection to Kylo Ren in Future Seasons

28 octobre 2025 à 18:19

The divisive Star Wars TV series The Acolyte would have featured a connection between The Stranger and villain Kylo Ren had the show been given a Season 2 and not been cancelled, its showrunner has confirmed.

Creator and showrunner Leslye Headland, who is perhaps best known for her work as a playwright, revealed that The Acolyte's central villain, Qimir also known as The Stranger, would have gone on to start The Knights of Ren, the cult the young Kylo Ren joined following his departure from the Jedi. Indeed, The Acolyte would have confirmed The Stranger as the first Knight of Ren.

“It was in the design of the character, as well as knowing that we were going to introduce Darth Plagueis, who has to end up with Palpatine as his apprentice," Headland wrote in The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte by Kristin Baver, as reported by SFF Gazette.

"Following the Rule of Two - a precept that limited the Sith to just two at any given time, a master and an apprentice - one way to keep it going is if the Stranger is the first Knight of Ren, part of a Sith-adjacent cult that we know eventually survives."

The Knights of Ren are not Sith per se, as Headland explains, but they also align themselves much more with the dark side of the Force than the light the Jedi follow. Some of the Knights seemingly appear with Kylo Ren in The Rise of Skywalker, but the context surrounding them, who they really are, and why Ren is with them is never properly explored.

Knowing all of this, some fans will undoubtedly be wishing more of this could’ve been explored both in further seasons of The Acolyte, and the project Adam Driver, who played Kylo Ren / Ben Solo, and director Steven Soderbergh were trying to make — The Hunt For Ben Solo — before Disney tossed it in the trash.

Indeed, Star Wars owner Disney canceled The Acolyte after Season 1, leaving a number of plot threads, chief among them the dramatic first appearance of Darth Plagueis in live-action form, dangling, perhaps never to be resolved.

Since the cancelation, a number of actors who appeared in The Acolyte have said they still hope for a Season 2. In December last year, Manny Jacinto, who played Qimir, said Darth Plagueis would have had a bigger role in further seasons of The Acolyte, but didn't reveal too much because "we could come back."

Meanwhile, Sol actor Lee Jung-Jae has said he was "quite surprised" to hear The Acolyte wouldn't get a second season, which Headland was thinking about even before Season 1 premiered. Others, including Amandla Stenberg, have said they weren't shocked by the cancellation, however. "I'm going to be transparent and say that it's not a huge shock for me," she said. "I was in the bubble of my own reality, but for those who aren't aware there's been a rampage of vitriol that we've faced since the show was even announced. When it was still just a concept and no one had even seen it."

Here's the page from The Art of The Acolyte book where Leslye reveals that The Stranger was supposed to be the first Knight of Ren, in HD quality.

Mother Aniseya actress Jodie Turner-Smith raised this issue too, calling out Disney for not doing enough for the cast who faced waves of racist slander online. "They’ve got to stop doing this thing where they don’t say anything when people are getting f**king dog-piled on the internet with racism and bulls**t," she said. Jacinto is still eager to create more of The Acolyte though, calling Season 2 his life's goal not long after its cancellation.

Tom the Dancing Bug: The Beloved Surrealist Comic Strip Gets a New Book Collection

28 octobre 2025 à 17:57

Ruben Bolling's Tom the Dancing Bug is widely hailed as being one of the most influential and creative comic strips of the '90s and '00s, and Clover Press is busy reprinting that series in a new batch of collected editions. Next up is a two-volume set collecting the series' run from 1990 to 1998.

With Clover Press' latest Tom the Dancing Bug crowdfunding campaign now live, IGN can exclusively debut a new preview of the book and the accompanying lithograph art print. Check them out in the slideshow gallery below:

Tom the Dancing Bug started out as a surrealist alternative to traditional newspaper comic strips. The series increasingly took on a more political humor-focused approach, first in the wake of 9/11 and then as a response to the election of Donald Trump. The Complete Tom the Dancing Bug collection aims to reprint 35 years' worth of strips in one comprehensive set.

“With the announcement of these two volumes, The Complete Tom the Dancing Bug program will soon stand as a full eight-volume chronicle of 35 years of comics – my life’s work,” said Bolling in a statement. “I’m grateful to Clover Press for its commitment to the project. The quality of the books has been extraordinary, and I’m honored to have this complete set in print. These two volumes will document this strip’s earliest years, and in some ways, my most audacious and ambitious work.”

The Kickstarter campaign for Tom the Dancing Bug is live now.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is Getting a Prequel Manga Starring Rebecca, and It's Up for Preorder Today

28 octobre 2025 à 17:31

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is getting its very own prequel manga, starring fan-favorite siblings Rebecca and Pilar. It’s up for preorder now for $14.99 / £13.99 at Amazon, with a release date set for February 24, 2026.

According to the listing, the story follows Rebecca and her brother as they chase their dream of becoming legendary edgerunners, just like their father.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners - Madness Vol. 1 is set in Night City, and promises plenty of chaos and bloodshed as the pair fight to survive a world consumed by greed and corruption, with a mysterious figure soon throwing their plans off course.

The manga is written by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners screenwriter Bartosz Sztybor, with art by Asano, best known for the BNA: Brand New Animal adaptation.

Edgerunners, which takes place within CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077 universe, was a massive success for Netflix and Studio Trigger, so much so that a sequel, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, is now in the works with Trigger once again leading production.

The show’s influence has clearly lingered. Nick Dragotta, character designer and artist behind the Absolute Batman comic book series, recently said he’d love to see Studio Trigger adapt the comics into an anime - another sign of just how impactful Edgerunners has been in bridging the gap between Western and Japanese storytelling styles.

In his review for IGN, Matt Kim said: "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners delivers a satisfying return to Night City that does a better job exploring why Mike Pondsmith’s famous location became so iconic in the first place."

"[It] doesn’t overtake Cyberpunk 2077 so much as it expands upon it. But for the best version of Night City this side of the 21st century, consider diving into Studio Trigger’s madcap vision of the famous tabletop RPG. It’s a wild ride, but worth every blistering second, choom."

JVSCAM Cordless Electric Air Duster

I bought a similar model a couple of months ago and it's fantastic for cleaning out fans, PCs, keyboards and anything that requires precision cleaning. You will end up using all the tips of this and I can't recommend this desktop gadget enough.

2 Pack Hand Warmers

It's getting cold out, and those one-use hand warmers are OK if you fancy bringing a bag full for a day out. These bad boys are USB-rechargable and last for ages. This should be a winter coat pocket essential.

ID@Xbox Showcase October 2025: Everything Announced

28 octobre 2025 à 17:00

IGN has once again teamed up with ID@Xbox for a brand-new showcase that arrived today, just a few days before Halloween. The show was filled with big teases about the bright future of indie games, and it was led by a deep dive of how Mouse: P.I. For Hire was brought to life, Robot and Monster Girl joining Invincible VS, Balatro content invading Vampire Survivors, and much more.

There were a lot of games featured during the roughly 50-minute show, and you can check out all the games below to see what your next favorite just may be!

Mouse: P.I. For Hire Deep Dive Showcases How This Much-Anticipated Black & White FPS Was Brought to Life

Mouse: P.I. For Hire was the big finale for this fall's ID@Xbox Showcase, and we were treated to a deep dive into how this striking and much-anticipated black & white FPS was brought to life.

It all started with the look of the game, which the team at Fumi Games described as an old cartoon from the 1930s that our grandparents would have watched when they were kids. It also takes great inspiration from the Rubber Hose animation style from the 1920s and 1930s, and that allowed them to play with the way everything bends and stretches and squeezes.

We then got to learn about some of the characters that detective Jack Pepper will encounter on his journey through Mouseburg, and also how there will be a main hub that includes Jack's office, a pub, and a workshop. These will all have NPCs and will be where you upgrade your many weapons and even play a baseball-like collectible card game with the cards you'll find throughout the game.

Lastly, they touched upon gameplay and confirmed we will play through more than 10 biomes, and each will have 1-4 levels each. Enemy variety was a big point as well, as you may face a charging enemy only to find out later in the game that they learned how to use a forcefield. Your arsenal will be more than ready, though, as you'll havec access to a pistol, shotgun, tommy gun, freeze gun, and even a conscious gun that is like a brain in a jar on top of a gun.

There is still much more to reveal about Mouse: P.I. For Hire before it's release date of March 19, 2026, and we'll be here covering all those big details as they happen.

Freaky Friday Sequel Freakier Friday Gets Disney+ Streaming Release Date

28 octobre 2025 à 16:58

Things are about to get freakier on streaming. Disney+ has officially announced the streaming release date for the new Freaky Friday sequel film Freakier Friday.

Fans will be able to watch the Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan movie at home on Disney+ starting on November 12, which, funnily enough, is a Wednesday and not a Friday. Hey, you do what you can in this business.

The film — which stars Curtis, Lohan, and returning stars Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao — premiered in August and blew past its $42 million budget to gross over $94 million worldwide during its theatrical run.

The original film, which came out in 2003 as the third adaptation of the 1972 novel, is a beloved early aughts comedy, and it makes sense that the love for it made the cast want to return for a second one. Curtis previously opened up about the impact the first film had on her. “It was an unexpected moment for me professionally,” she revealed in a clip from Freakier Friday’s bonus features. “And then it became this pivoting moment for me professionally, because the movie was such an enormous worldwide success.”

Murray, who played Lohan’s central love interest in 2003, feels nostalgic about the project and its impact. “You know, 22 years ago, making a movie,” he explained in the clip, “I was new to town, and I got the opportunity to come and work with Jamie Lee and Lindsay, and just go make a movie that hit on so many levels, and so many people could identify with the story.”

For Lohan, she remembers all of the fun the group had making the film, which undoubtedly made her even more of a major star than she already was at the time. “We were just having such a great time, all the time,” she said. “I only have really happy memories of being on set.”

Freakier Friday, which follows Lohan’s Anna as she ends up body-swapping with her own daughter, also stars newcomers to the franchise Manny Jancinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Sophia Hammons, and Julia Butters.

BBC Confirms Future of Doctor Who, New Christmas Special in 2026, and the End of the Disney+ Partnership

28 octobre 2025 à 16:23

The BBC has confirmed the future of Doctor Who with a Christmas 2026 special written by Russell T Davies.

The announcement comes alongside confirmation that the show’s partnership with Disney+ has come to an end after two seasons and upcoming spinoff The War Between the Land and the Sea. Despite this, the BBC insisted it remains “fully committed” to the show and will announce plans for the next series “in due course to ensure the Doctor’s adventures continue.”

That's pretty much all we have for now, although Lindsay Salt, the BBC's Director of Drama, did offer a comment:

"We’d like to thank Disney+ for being terrific global partners and collaborators over the past two seasons, and for the upcoming The War Between the Land and the Sea. The BBC remains fully committed to Doctor Who, which continues to be one of our most loved dramas, and we are delighted that Russell T Davies has agreed to write us another spectacular Christmas special for 2026. We can assure fans, the Doctor is not going anywhere, and we will be announcing plans for the next series in due course which will ensure the TARDIS remains at the heart of the BBC.”

The War Between the Land and the Sea will be released on the BBC iPlayer and BBC One later this year, the BBC added. There's a brand-new Doctor Who animation series for CBeebies in development, too. The BBC did not announce a streaming partner for the global release of the Doctor Who Christmas 2026 special.

The future of Doctor Who has been hotly debated by fans and even people who worked on the show. Earlier this month, the executive producer of Doctor Who hit back at "rude" comments from a former writer who claimed the show was "as dead as we've ever known it."

Jane Tranter, co-founder of Doctor Who production company Bad Wolf, said the comment by the former Doctor Who writer was "really untrue," though went on to suggest that fans would have to "wait patiently to see" when the show might eventually return, and how it would "change" when it does.

Doctor Who has endured a mixed response to the series' recent era and the departure of lead actor Ncuti Gatwa, whose exit scenes were added in reshoots. The shock return of former Doctor Who actress Billie Piper in the closing seconds of the series' most recent finale also sparked much debate. Piper's unexplained appearance — presented on-screen as a new incarnation of the Doctor, though deliberately left ambiguous — seemed to place the franchise in narrative limbo.

How to Navigate the Brandon Sanderson Cosmere Series Timeline

If you consider yourself a fan of high fantasy, I would be willing to bet that there is a good chance you have at least heard the name "Brandon Sanderson" even if you have never read one of his books. Widely considered one of the most prolific fantasy authors of the modern age, Sanderson is a titan of the industry, having redefined publishing for authors, fought for better contracts for author e-book sales, brought about the conclusion of the legendary Wheel of Time series after the passing of its original author, Robert Jordan, and has basically created his own media empire with Dragonsteel (complete with his own convention). To say that he is a big deal would be underselling it a bit.

All that aside, perhaps what Brandon is best known for is the Cosmere—his universe-spanning interconnected monolith that a majority of his various books and series take place somewhere in. Picture the Marvel Cinematic Universe but as books, and all by the same writer. When a new Cosmere book is released, it's a big deal. This list will give you a basic idea of the (current) chronological order of the books in the scheme of the Cosmere itself, omitting books that we know are coming (Dragonsteel, the future Elantris Books, Mistborn eras 3 and 4, etc) but have not yet been released.

If you look at the long list of titles that currently take place in the Cosmere, it can feel like a Herculean task to get through some of the books on their own, so consider this more as a resource to help you navigate it a bit, and make connections along the way as you read through the various series. However, just be aware that these can also be enjoyed on their own as smaller self-contained series, without needing to read them in chronological order. Special thank you to the CopperMind (a Cosmere resource kept up to date by the most diehard of fans) for helping me put this list together. Just be careful when you go on there as it is really easy to accidentally spoil things for yourself (speaking from experience, even though they try to mark everything).

It should be noted that as of this writing, there is no official timeline, with Brandon having previously stated that he hopes to have one released before the second Arc of Stormlight Archive releases—tentatively planned for 2031 (no, I'm not joking). The current list was put together thanks to research and input from the Coppermind wiki, Reddit, and YouTube videos

How Many Books Exist in the Cosmere Timeline?

As it stands right now, if you want to read everything the Cosmere has to offer, you will have to work your way through a pile of graphic novels, short stories, novelas, and your standard novels. All told, you are looking at about 24 books to buy (the number gets a little wonky depending on how you count the books that count the collections of stories and such), but here is a list of all the Cosmere titles you will need to read:

  • Elantris
  • Mistborn Era 1
    • Mistborn: The Final Empire
    • The Well of Ascension
    • The Hero of Ages
  • Mistborn Era 2:
    • The Alloy of Law
    • Shadows of Self
    • The Bands of Mourning
    • The Lost Metal
  • Warbreaker
  • Stormlight Archive 1st Arc
    • The Way of Kings
    • Words of Radiance
    • Oathbringer
    • Rhythm of War
    • Wind and Truth
  • Dawnshard (Novella)
  • White Sand (Graphic Novels)
    • White Sand Vol. 1
    • White Sand Vol. 2
    • White Sand Vol. 3
  • Tress of the Emerald Sea
  • Yumi and the Nightmare Painter
  • The Sunlit Man
  • Arcanum Unbounded (Collection of Short Stories and Novellas)
    • The Emperor’s Soul
    • The Hope of Elantris (free on Brandon Sanderson’s website)
    • The Eleventh Metal
    • Allomancer Jak and the Pits of Eltania
    • Mistborn: Secret History
    • White Sand
    • Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell
    • Sixth of the Dusk
    • Edgedancer

The “Chronological” Cosmere Reading Order

While the following breakdown will take you through the Cosmere as we believe it to exist right now, it isn’t necessarily the “best” way to tackle these books. There are a number of options that people recommend, reading in Publication Order is a common one, knowing how imposing this all is, Brandon released his own “Where do I start?” list that you can check out too. I started with Mistborn Era 1 (Mistborn: The Final Empire) and then into Stormlight Archive Book 1, and had a good time.

White Sand - World: Taldain

Books:

  • White Sand Vol. 1
  • White Sand Vol. 2
  • White Sand Vol. 3

Believed to be set first chronologically, the White Sand graphic novels take place on Taldain, a desert world where individuals can be trained to become Sand Masters. Following a man named Kenton who is training to be one, the three volumes focus on him trying to get to the bottom of who was behind a surprise attack that killed many of the other Sand Masters. White Sand ran from 2016 to 2019 and is based on a manuscript that was one of Brandon’s earliest works, with an excerpt of this early writing included in the Arcanum Unbounded collection. You can expect that occasional easter egg or nod to White Sand in future books, but not as much as other entries (yet) in the Cosmere.

Elantris - World: Sel

Books:

  • Elantris
  • The Hope of Elantris
  • The Emperors Soul

Taking place on the world of Sel, Elantris was Sanderson's first published work, released back in 2005. Due to various factors in later books, it is assumed that Elantris takes place very early in the timeline of the Cosmere books. The story follows a few different viewpoints, including the crown prince Raoden, of a kingdom known as Arelon, his soon-to-be bride Princess Sarene, and the high priest Hrathen. The namesake of the book, 'Elantris' is the name of a city that, years before the book, a cataclysm known as the Reod robbed the Elantrians of their almost god-like powers and magic, and left them as to what could only be described as sentient zombie-like people.

Elantris plays around with the idea of what happens when a world's magic system simply breaks, and no one knows how to fix it. It is a fun read with its fair share of surprises and twists. While we know that Sanderson is planning two sequels for Elantris, as of 2025, this remains a stand-alone novel, but not the only one set in the world of Sel.

The Hope of Elantris (Arcanum Unbounded)

The Hope of Elantris takes place during the events found at the end of Elantris with an aim to fill in some gaps and moments in the story, providing further context. As such, this absolutely should not be read before finishing Elantris; instead, enjoyed as a little extra dessert afterwards. To further sweeten the deal, in addition to being included in the Arcanum Unbounded collection, you can actually read this completely for free off of Sanderson’s website!

The Emperor's Soul (Arcanum Unbounded)

Taking place on Sel, after the events of Elantris and The Hope of Elantris, but in a different nation, The Emperor’s Soul follows a thief named Shai, who has been tasked with recreating the soul of an Emperor. This book introduces new magic that had previously not been seen in the other Sel set books, and offers a more asian-inspired setting and theme. It’s a fun read, and getting a grasp on this new magical forgery trick will come in handy as you read future books. This is one of the novellas included in the Arcanum Unbounded collection.

Mistborn Era 1 (Vin and Kelsier) - World: Scadrial

Books:

  • The Eleventh Metal (Arcanum Unbounded)
  • Mistborn: The Final Empire
  • Mistborn: Secret History (Arcanum Unbounded - READ AFTER HERO OF AGES)
  • The Well of Ascension
  • Hero of Ages

The Mistborn titles, especially the first Era, are some of the most well-known and beloved of the Cosmere-connected books, and a wonderful first stop if you want to expose yourself to Sanderson's writing and style. Taking place in the world of Scadrial, era 1 focuses on the adventures and exploits of a young thief named Vin, and Kelsier, a legend in his own time, as they work to overthrow the current empire and create a new world order.

Some people of this world are able to "burn" or use a variety of metals they swallow for different effects, like pushing off of metal, altering the emotions of nearby people, and more. In the scope of the Cosmere, the events that transpire on Scardrial will prove immensely important to future books, and are a must-read for anyone to really get into this universe. There's even a Mistborn board game for fans of the series looking to head to the tabletop.

Mistborn: Secret History (Arcanum Unbounded)

Mistborn: Secret History is a tough one to discuss, as nearly everything about it will be rather spoilery. This novella takes place between the events at the end of The Final Empire and the start of Hero of Ages. Read this after finishing Mistborn Era 1, and don’t look up anything about it until then unless you want big spoilers!

The Eleventh Metal (Arcanum Unbound)

The Eleventh Metal novella serves as a prequel to the original Mistborn: The Final Empire book. It explores Kelsier's early days after receiving his allomantic abilities, as he learns from his teacher, Gemmel. This short story was initially included in the Mistborn Adventure Game, but was later included in the release of Arcanum Unbounded. While chronologically speaking, this is before the main Era 1 books, you will get more out of it, reading it after you have finished at minimum The Final Empire, if not Hero of Ages.

Warbreaker - World: Nalthis

The exact placement of Warbreaker is still a bit up for discussion, whether it takes place before Mistborn era 1 or after, but we do know for certain that it is before the Stormlight Archive. Taking place on the world of Nalthis, Warbreaker focuses on the two princesses, Vivenna and her younger sister Siri. Circumstances throw both of the sisters into situations they weren’t prepared for, Siri needing to take over in a role that was to be handled by her sister, and Vivenna needing to find a new purpose in life while also doing what she can to save her sister. Should they succeed, it may just prevent a war and prevent an invasion of their home..

As it currently stands, much like Elantris, Warbreaker is a standalone book, but Sanderson has promised a follow-up to Warbreaker sometime in the future. Warbreaker and some characters within do have a larger impact on the Cosmere and other worlds, making this a pretty important book to read, but luckily, it isn’t incredibly long, having been published relatively early in his career back in 2009. Warbreaker also has the added benefit of introducing arguably the best sentient sword in all of fantasy with Nightblood.

Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell (Arcanum Unbound) - World: Threnody

At roughly 18,000 words, Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell is a short novella that you can bust out in a sitting or two. Taking place in the world of Threnody, currently believed to be only a minor planet in the Cosmere’s story as a whole (so far), Shadows follows Silence Montane, the proprietress of a waystop in the Forests of Hell. She accepts a bounty to track down a notorious highwayman, and things quickly get rocky for Silence, which will have repercussions for her family. Inside the Arcanum Unbounded collection, Sanderson also includes a small essay that elaborates a bit more on the Threnodite system in the Cosmere. This story is a nice little palate cleanser to read between larger works.

The Stormlight Archive Arc 1 - World: Roshar

Books:

  • The Way of Kings
  • Words of Radiance
  • Edgedancer (Book 2.5 - Arcanum Unbounded & Standalone)
  • Oathbringer
  • Dawnshard (Book 3.5)
  • Rhythm of War
  • Wind and Truth

The Stormlight Archive is Brandon Sanderson's behemoth of a series, with books often spanning more than 1100 pages.. Taking place on the planet of Roshar, Stormlight Archive immediately immerses readers into the middle of a long-standing conflict between the Alethi (a kingdom of Humans) and the Parshendi, a humanoid people adorned with a carapace that grows from them. The conflict began years earlier after the assassination of the Alethi king.

This series defines the genre of "epic fantasy" more so than any other of Sanderon's work, with readers being treated to an intricate magic system, a staggering amount of lore and world building, and wonderful cast of characters that you will follow as you try to piece together what has lead to the events in these books, and what is to come. From magic knights to gods, heroes forced to rise to the occasion and a world where emotions are given shape in the form of creatures known as 'Spren', this first arc of the Stormlight Archive finds itself smack dab in the middle of the Cosmere, both chronologically speaking and as a central pillar of the universe itself.

The final book of this first part of the Archive, Wind and Truth, was released in December 2024. The next book is not expected until sometime in the early 2030s, so luckily, there is still plenty of time to dive in and get caught up. This is a must-read to get into the Cosmere, but not one that I would recommend as a jumping-in point. This entire arc takes place over the course of about two years.

Edgedancer

Taking place between Books 2 (Words of Radiance) and 3 (Oathbringer) of the first act of the Stormlight Archive, Edgedancer follows the character of Lift, who is first introduced in an interlude in Words of Radiance. This young thief has a decidedly unique tone and personality when compared to others on Roshar, and this novella would be best enjoyed after completing Oathbringer.

Dawnshard

Dawnshard takes place between Oathbringer and Rhythm of War, the third and fourth books of the Stormlight Archive, and follows Rysn and other notable Stormlight characters, including the beloved “The Lopen”. Moments from this book are mentioned in Rhythm of War, so you will be fine reading it beforehand, but it is just as enjoyable reading it after, to get a better handle on events mentioned in the book. Also, you get more Lopen, which is never a bad thing.

Misborn Era 2 (Wax and Wayne) - World: Scardrial

Books:

  • The Alloy of Law
  • Shadows of Self
  • The Bands of Mourning
  • The Lost Metal

The second era of the Mistborn titles picks up about 300 years after the events of The Hero of Ages on Scadrial. Whereas the first set of books took place in a more medieval society, the world of Scadrial now resembles something more akin to the American Frontier or the early Industrial Revolution. The second era follows the exploits of the mercenary allomancer lawman, Wax, and his partner Wayne, dealing with the newer threats posed by the advances of technology and also the problems caused by the events that transpired in the past. This all results in a set of stories that feels both familiar and brand new all at the same time, with some of the most beloved characters in the Cosmere.

It’s advised that you don’t tackle the Wax and Wayne books until you have completed at least the first set of Mistborn books. However, as being one of the more recent Cosmere releases, the fourth and final book, The Lost Metal, starts working in more connections with the Cosmere as a whole, so you will get more out of that last book especially, the more of the previous books of the Cosmere you have read already.

Sixth of the Dusk (Arcanum Unbounded) - World: First of the Sun

Among the entries contained within Arcanum Unbounded, Sixth of the Dusk takes place the furthest down the timeline. Set around the large island known as Patji on the planet known as First of the Sun, this short novella (clocking in just under 18,000 words) follows a trapper named Sixth of the Dusk as he tries to save his home. This book is currently believed to take place rather far ahead in the timeline of the Cosmere as it features a race of people with advanced space travel technology. It also has magic parrots.

Tress of the Emerald Sea - World: Lumar

Tress was the first of Brandon Sanderon’s Secret Project Kickstarter titles that he wrote during the pandemic, unbeknownst to anyone but his wife. A standalone novel taking place in the world of Lumar, which is home to an emerald green ocean of spores, Tress of the Emerald Sea is about a young girl who sets out to find and rescue her love. Sanderson describes his inspiration for Tress as “what if Buttercup from the Princess Bride had been more proactive.”

Currently, Tress of the Emerald Sea is believed to be somewhere in the distant future of the Cosmere, but where it precisely lands is a mystery.

The Sunlit Man - World: Canticle

Taking place on the world of Canticle, where the sunlight can melt the very stone, The Sunlit Man was the fourth book of Brandon’s Secret Projects and follows the immortal known as Nomad, who is caught in a conflict between rebels and a tyrant. Much like the other secret project novels, this is also a standalone title that takes place far in the future of the Cosmere, but its specific placement is nebulous.

Even though this is a standalone title, it’s recommended that you don’t read this until you finish the first arc of the Stormlight Archive because…reasons…

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter - World: Komashi

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, third of the Secret Projects, takes place on Komashi, where mysticism and technology butt heads against one another. Following the characters of Painter, who works as a Nightmare Painter (someone that captures dark beings) and Yumi (a traveling priestess that can summon and command spirits). A string of events binds the two of them together, and they have to figure out why and how to get out of it.

Yumi and the Nightmare painter is standalone and feels decidedly different from other books in the Cosmere, with its setting being a mix of Japanese and Korean influences, with Brandon mentioning that the initial concept came from his exposure to the manga Hikaru no Go and other media like the anime film Your Name and Final Fantasy X. Believed to take place far in the future of the Cosmere, this can be a fun first outing to dip your toes into the Cosmere.

The Cosmere RPG

Brandon Sanderson, in collaboration with Brotherwise games, has officially released the first set of Cosmere RPG books. Here's a quick snippet of what I thought in my full Cosmere RPG review:

"The Cosmere RPG is putting a strong foot forward right out of the gate, with systems that manage to feel familiar while at the same time doing its own thing that sets it apart. I appreciate its more flexible character growth and heavier emphasis on your own personal story and incorporating it into tangible gameplay features. It remains to be seen just how well the team manages to balance and intermingle the vastly different worlds and magic systems that inhabit the Cosmere. Still, I am already chomping at the bit for the next world guides, handbooks, and what Brotherwise Games have up their sleeves."

What We know Is Coming in 2025 and Beyond

Much like our own universe, the Cosmere continues to expand. Back in December of 2024, Brandon gave his updated PLANNED release schedule up through 2031, and is as follows:

  • November 2025: Isles of the Emberdark (Pre-order)
    • This incorporates and expands on Sixth of the Dusk
  • 2026: Cosmere TTRPG - Mistborn Campaign Setting
  • December 2026: Dark One or Isaac’s Cosmere Novel
  • 2027: Dark One or Isaac’s Cosmere Novel
  • December 2028: Mistborn Era 3 - Book 1
  • Summer 2029: Elantris 2
  • December 2029: Mistborn Era 3 - Book 2
  • Summer 2030: Elantris 3
  • December 2030: Mistborn Era 3 - Book 3
  • December 2031: Stormlight Archive Book 6 (begins 2nd Arc)

'Ariana Grande's Impression of Me on SNL Was Spot-On' — Jennifer Lawrence Thinks She Was 'Annoying' Back in the Mid-2010s When Everyone Was Making Fun of Her Candid Personality

28 octobre 2025 à 16:12

Remember in the mid-2010s when Jennifer Lawrence was the butt of nearly every cultural joke? The actress recently opened up about being hesitant to speak to the press to promote her work ever since the public turned on her so distinctly about a decade ago.

“Well, it is, or it was, my genuine personality, but it was also a defense mechanism,” the Hunger Games and X-Men star told The New Yorker in a recent interview about her candidness. “And so it was a defense mechanism, to just be, like, ‘I’m not like that! I poop my pants every day!’ … I look at those interviews, and that person is annoying. I get why seeing that person everywhere would be annoying. Ariana Grande’s impression of me on SNL was spot-on.”

In 2016, SNL did a Celebrity Family Feud sketch in which Grande played Lawrence and channeled her persona with lines like, “I’m just, like, a snackaholic. I mean, I love Pringles. If no one’s looking, I’ll eat, like, a whole can.” The addition of Grande’s Lawrence to the sketch was obviously timely and the public ate it up — much like they did with any opportunity to criticize Lawrence at the time.

The performer, who is currently on a press junket promoting her new film Die My Love, added: “I felt — I didn’t feel, I was, I think — rejected not for my movies, not for my politics, but for me, for my personality.” She also called her old interviews, in which she lays the self-depreciating comedy on thick, “so hyper” and “so embarrassing.”

This isn’t the first time the actor has opened up about the public scrutiny and backlash she faced after making a whopping 16 movies in six years and seeing several of them fail at the box office. That naturally created a gateway for the world to poke fun at Lawrence and her candidness relentlessly at the time.

“I just think everybody had gotten sick of me. I’d gotten sick of me. It had just gotten to a point where I couldn’t do anything right,” she told Vanity Fair in 2021. “If I walked a red carpet, it was, ‘Why didn’t she run?’”

She added at the time: “I was people-pleasing for the majority of my life. Working made me feel like nobody could be mad at me: ‘Okay, I said yes, we’re doing it. Nobody’s mad.’ And then I felt like I reached a point where people were not pleased just by my existence. So that kind of shook me out of thinking that work or your career can bring any kind of peace to your soul.”

Lawrence is currently starring in Lynne Ramsay’s latest project, Die My Love, opposite Robert Pattinson. The film arrives in theaters on November 7 and will most likely be available on Mubi’s streaming app at a later date.

The Best Switch 2 Storage Upgrade Is Finally on Sale at Amazon UK

28 octobre 2025 à 16:09

The Switch 2 may have landed with more power and a bigger internal drive, but 256GB still disappears fast once you start downloading a few modern games.

That’s why this deal on the 1TB Lexar Play Pro Micro SD Express card is worth a look. It’s one of the best storage upgrades you can buy for Nintendo’s new console, and it’s finally dropped to £189.99 at Amazon, its lowest price ever.

This is one of the few 1TB MicroSD Express cards you can actually find in stock right now, and while it’s not exactly budget tech, it’s fast, future-proof, and offers enough room to keep your whole library in one place. It’s been hovering around £240 lately, so this is a genuine saving.

If you’ve been out of the loop, MicroSD Express is the next-generation format for Switch 2’s expandable storage. It replaces the older MicroSD cards from the original console with far better performance, up to 900MB/s read and 600MB/s write speeds, roughly four times faster than the previous standard. It's a little bit of a new technology, so prices are a wee bit steep right now.

But that 1TB capacity almost quadruples the Switch 2’s internal storage, and you’ll be glad for it once heavy hitters like Cyberpunk 2077 start eating up a quarter of the system drive on their own.

If you’re tired of deleting games every time a big release drops, this is the deal to grab right now in the UK. Lexar's Play Pro 1TB MicroSD Express card gives the Switch 2 the storage space it always should have had, and it’s finally at a price that's a little more reasonable.

Switch 2 Just Got Its First Big Discount in the Build Up to the Black Friday Sales in the UK

28 octobre 2025 à 16:00

Roll up, roll up, this is likely the best Nintendo Switch 2 Black Friday deal we're going to get this year in the UK. That's right, Switch 2 consoles have actually been discounted for the first time ever.

Across most retailers right now, Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundles are down to £409. That's over £20 off the RRP, and a sure-fire saving way ahead of the biggest sale event of the year.

Now, is it worth dropping over £400 on the console when the Black Friday sales are right around the corner? Yes! I'm fairly confident that this won't drop any further, even in the weeks to come.

Considering a base Switch 2 costs £395.99, you're effectively paying just under £14 for its bundled game, Mario Kart World. That's a bargain worth shouting about.

Here's what IGN's Logan Plant had to say about the game in his 8/10 review: "Mario Kart World may not make the most convincing case that going open-world was the boost the series needed, but excellent multiplayer racing, incredible polish, and the thrilling new Knockout Tour mode still more than live up to its legacy."

If you want to take things a step further, you could even get the console bundle for just £404.99 if you sign up for Argos' marketing emails. For the unaware, this sign up grants you a free £5 voucher to spend on any shops over £40. So, at over £400 the Switch 2 deal most definitely applies.

If you're looking for expandable storage, Amazon also has a limited time deal on the 1TB Lexar Play Pro MicroSDXC Express Card today, but you'll need to act fast.

Down to £189.99 from £279.99, this is the best deal we've seen so far on the only storage solution available for Switch 2. But, the deal expires by the end of today in the UK, so get moving to avoid disapointment. The 512GB card is also down to £92.99, if you're looking for something that little bit more affordable.

You can also find games like Donkey Kong Bananza down to just under £52 at Amazon today as well, if you're looking for another game to gift your loved one, or even just for yourself.

Battlefield REDSEC Launches Alongside Battlefield 6 Season 1 With Battle Royale, Gauntlet, and Portal Modes — Here's Everything You Need to Know

28 octobre 2025 à 16:00

The free-to-play Battlefield 6 battle royale game mode has officially arrived in the form of Battlefield REDSEC – but it’s probably not exactly what you think it is.

EA and Battlefield Studios surprise launched their Battlefield battle royale experience across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S just moments ago, bringing months of rumors and leaks to an end with a standalone offering that’s free for both those who do and do not own Battlefield 6. Its name, shorthand for “Redacted Sector,” teases an updated take on a popular multiplayer pastime that’s been bundled in with two additional modes: Gauntlet and Portal. There’s more to REDSEC than fans may have expected, and it’s all tied in with the Battlefield 6 experience under one unified umbrella.

Battlefield Battle Royale

Battle royale is no doubt the headline here, offering access to 100-player matches where classic battle royale gameplay is mixed with the Battlefield 6 formula. Infantry can be seen parachuting over and into explosive firefights in its first trailer, which reveals how BF Studios translated familiar elements into the Battlefield universe, all while 2Pac and Dr. Dre’s California Love plays in the background.

Finding rare loot, hoarding armor plates, mastering small and large points of interest, and completing missions with friends are core parts of many battle royale experiences, and each is necessary to survive in Battlefield, too. It's more Warzone than Fortnite, but REDSEC has some features that help it stand apart.

Fort Lyndon, a Southern California location that EA and BF Studios call the “biggest Battlefield map ever,” serves as the backdrop for each match. As the trailer highlights crumbling buildings, REDSEC aims to convince players it can build on battle royale without sacrificing what so many love about the franchise: tactical destruction.

Map-altering vehicles are a mainstay for any true Battlefield experience, and that remains the case for Battlefield 6 battle royale, which features everything from tanks to attack boats to golf carts to find. As the ever-present, ever-shrinking ring of fire (fans may remember it from Battlefield V: Firestorm) forces teams out of the frying pan, discovering an M1 Abrams could mean the difference between victory and succumbing to the flames. There will be plenty of less-threatening vehicles to discover around the new battle royale map, but those looking to drive a heavily armored tank will first need to complete missions, nab a keycard reward, and then use it to unlock specific garages.

Battlefield 6 and REDSEC will coexist, so those who have already enjoyed the former can expect to find familiar vehicles, guns, and gadgets in the latter – save for a few tweaks. Class upgrades are just one element to consider and give Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon players upgrades to work toward. Earn enough XP as the Recon class, for example, and you'll gain access to an enhancement that powers up drones with bomb-dropping capabilities. Custom loadouts can also be built and used, with players able to earn them by completing missions or by betting on the slightly riskier option of waiting for limited global drop events.

Battlefield 6 players have not-so-patiently waited for battle royale updates for months. Now that REDSEC is finally here to toss Battlefield into a battle royale blender, fans should know that it's not the only new experience dropping today.

Gauntlet

If you need a break from battle royale, Gauntlet is a separate mode that is also offered as part of today’s new standalone free-to-play experience. While Battlefield battle royale may see squads prowling for loot in between shootouts throughout longer matches, Gauntlet is propped up as a relatively short, elimination-driven gameplay experience.

Instead of 100-player matches, just 32 players (eight squads with four players each) are spread across Fort Lyndon. BF Studios says Gauntlet is structured as a tournament, with teams tasked with fighting through fast-paced, round-based missions.

Players have five minutes to complete the objective for each round, with Gauntlet keeping everyone on their toes with rotating missions and locations. As objectives and settings shift, it’s teamwork that will determine which squad emerges victorious.

Portal

Battlefield fans have been familiar with Portal since its inception in Battlefield 2042. Although the community has already taken to Battlefield 6 Portal to create bizarre game modes and recreate fan-favorite maps, REDSEC Portal opens a new door of possibilities.

REDSEC takes the promise of limitless game-creation tools and brings them over to Fort Lyndon’s massive play area. It’s more room for fans to let their imaginations run wild, with one example we’ve seen including a midair obstacle course that features golf carts, colorful shipping containers, and narrow paths.

REDSEC Portal looks more Grand Theft Auto Online than Battlefield, but that also seems to be what EA and BF Studios are going for. Two official Portal maps will be available at launch, with more set to follow in the future.

How Does Battlefield 6 Work With REDSEC?

The base Battlefield 6 experience takes after Call of Duty, bundling in REDSEC so that players can access it from one main menu. Those who don’t own the recently released Battlefield game can still download REDSEC without issue and at no extra charge, but there are a few differences for those who own the full, premium experience and those who don’t.

Coinciding with the launch of Season 1 today is Battlefield 6’s battle pass system, which shares unlocked rewards and XP progress between both the base game and its REDSEC counterpart. Though some unique challenges and events will be tied to each experience, and some Battlefield 6 vehicle skins won’t appear in certain REDSEC experiences, EA says “there are no plans” for REDSEC-exclusive unlocks.

Portal is where things get slightly complicated. Creative fans who own Battlefield 6 can enjoy the new Portal tools introduced with REDSEC completely unrestricted, gaining access to all the new standalone experience and Fort Lyndon have to offer. Those without the base game, however, won’t have access to any Battlefield 6-exclusive content, such as maps, when making Portal creations. These restrictions don’t stop at the creation side of the user-generated community content hub, either, as EA clarifies that REDSEC-exclusive players won’t be able to create or play any content using Battlefield 6 materials.

Battlefield REDSEC isn’t just battle royale – it’s a completely different beast. This three-pillar standalone experience will change as seasonal updates continue to roll out, and if the weeks following the launch of Battlefield 6 are anything to go by, it will also likely rapidly change as community feedback pours in.

The October 10 release of Battlefield 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S proved to be quite the moment for the series, but the true test of its potential begins with REDSEC and Season 1. While we wait to see how EA and BF Studios plan to maintain yet another major addition to the Battlefield universe, you can read up on all of the changes introduced with Season 1. You can also learn about how Engineer players are putting their repair tools to good use, as well as the multiplayer skin that set the community ablaze.
