File Your Federal and State Tax Returns for Free with the TurboTax DIY Mobile App

13 février 2026 à 23:25

It's that time of year: filing your tax return. It's a good day for people who overpay their taxes throughout the year and receive a nice fat check in return. It's not so good of a day for people who have claimed too many exemptions. Whatever the case, most Americans will need to file a tax return no later than April 15 and that's just two months away.

File Your Federal and State Tax Returns for Free

TurboTax is offering a great incentive where you can file both your federal and state returns for $0, guaranteed, with no hidden fees through Turbotax's DIY mobile app. There are a list of requisites to be eligible:

  • You didn't file with TurboTax last year (or didn't file at all)
  • You must file your tax return no later than February 28
  • You must file through TurboTax's DIY mobile app
  • This only applies to Do it Yourself, not TurboTax's Expert products

The best part about this deal - besides the fact that it's free - is that it works for any tax situation, for example even if you have to report cryptocurrency or stocks (Schedule D), freelance business income (Schedule C), or rental income (Schedule E). That makes it even better than TurboTax's Free Edition software, which only works for customers with simple Form 1040 tax situations. The mobile app also supports automated data entry; you can snap a photo of your W-2 and TurboTax will import the data from over 1 million employers automatically. Give it a try, since it won't cost you anything.

Konami Confirms Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 Won't Have MGS4's Metal Gear Online, But Peace Walker Multiplayer Will Return

13 février 2026 à 23:20

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will not include the version of Metal Gear Online featured with the original release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Konami confirmed the omission, as well as many other details about its recently announced collection of ports, on its official website. Buried beneath information about both MGS4 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is a single line confirming the multiplayer offering will not return when the former finally sneaks onto more platforms this August.

This iteration of Metal Gear Online launched with MGS4 as a bundled-in multiplayer experience in June 2008. Featuring a variety of game modes that ranged from standard team deathmatch to a unique encounter that saw one player assume the role of Old Snake – the offshoot tied together elements from the fourth mainline Metal Gear Solid game for players to enjoy in an online setting. It received several post-launch expansions through the years before Konami shut down the servers in 2012.

Bringing back MGS4 multiplayer for Master Collection Vol. 2 seems to be too tall an order for the publisher, but the second installment in its series of collections won’t be completely without an online component. Konami’s website also confirms that, unlike the first half of the bundle, its Peace Walker port will support online multiplayer.

Details on its returning Co-Ops mode promise classic team gameplay for the Big Boss era of the series, allowing two-to-four players to complete missions together. Versus Ops is for the more competitive-minded fans and features matches for up to six players. Local wireless play is also included, but only for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions.

Although the lack of Metal Gear Online support for MGS4 may come as a sad surprise for fans of the original PlayStation 3 release, other tweaks coming to the base experience may pique their interest. As described in a PlayStation.Blog post, Konami said the new version of MGS4 will feature improved internal resolution, a maximum framerate increase, and customizable controls. It’s unclear if Peace Walker will also benefit from visual adjustments, but it will at least come with custom controls. Ghost Babel, a bonus Game Boy Color entry from 2000, will not see the return of its two-player Vs. Battle mode, but it will come with screen filters, pixel-perfect screen settings, a rewind function, and custom controls.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 has an August 27, 2026, release date for PC via Steam, Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. Those who pre-order their copy will gain access to the Cardboard Camouflage for MGS4 and the Love Box unfirom for Peace Walker. If you also happen to have save data from Vol. 1, you'll earn the Gold Camouflage and Gold uniform.

For more, you can read about what Konami is doing to make sure it doesn’t suffer the same launch problems as Vol. 1. You can also see how the publisher revamped the multiplayer experience for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater with its Fox Hunt mode last year.

Magic Market Watch: Lorwyn Eclipsed Has Caused Elemental Cards to Rapidly Spike in Value

13 février 2026 à 22:00

Magic: The Gathering launched its first set of 2026, Lorwyn Eclipsed, and early signs are it’s a great return to in-universe cards.

As we do regularly, we’re looking at how the latest set has affected pricing across the cardboard game we love so much, leaning on data from our friends at TCGplayer. Spoiler alert: Black and Blue cards are in vogue this season, it seems.

Climbers

Kicking off with an Elemental that makes for a nifty inclusion for upgrading the Dance of the Elementals precon, Sunderflock is a nine-cost card that gets cheaper the more Elementals you have in play.

It also puts non-Elementals back in their owners’ hands, and is a 5/5 with Flying for good measure. It’s selling for around $10, having gone for (according to TCGplayer data) a single cent in recent months.

Next up, Eddymurk Crab. Another Elemental (Crab), this one has Flash and costs less to cast for instants and sorceries in your graveyard. It also taps target creatures and is a 5/5 in its own right. It’s sitting at under a dollar right now, but has spiked from being worth next to nothing not long ago.

Moving from Blue to Black, and Elementals to something a little more demonic, Doomsday Excruciator is a card that’s “spiked” to around two dollars. Not a lot, sure, but this six-cost, 6/6 with Flying was half of that last week. It exiles all but six of everyone’s cards, and dares you to finish a match more quickly by giving you an extra draw.

Pairing nicely with that is Insatiable Avarice, which forces a player to lose life and draw three cards. This one is up to around $15 at the time of writing, but was $2 just a couple of weeks ago.

Harvester of Misery jumped from $3 to around $18 (with some sellers shipping it for much more). This 5/4 with Menace dishes out -2/-2 to other creatures, and that might be enough to trigger a big with the Blight Curse precon.

Crashers

Now that Lorwyn has been released, we’ve got a few Crashers from the latest set that are worth a pickup.

Everyone went mad for Hexing Squelcher, with the Goblin Sorcerer preventing counters and dishing out Ward. It’s not around $18, down from $50 before launch.

We’re big fans of Mirrorform in these parts, but the Mythic has dropped to just around $5. Grab it, and then check out our list of crazy combos.

Another big drop is the 6/6 dragon, Spinerock Tyrant. It deals damage as -1/-1 (making it a Blighter’s dream), and doubles up spells. Now, it’s under $3, having been close to $30 at pre-launch prices.

Sticking with big numbers, Curious Colossus is a 7/7 that makes everyone else’s creature a 1/1. If you can pair that with a Massacre Wurm or something similar, you can board wipe an entire table in the late game. It’s now under $3.

Finally, Ashling, Rekindled is a 1/3 that transforms into Ashling, Rimebound to generate more mana. It’s a cheap card in terms of mana cost, but it’s now just $2 - down from $15.

The Xbox App Has Nothing on Playnite

13 février 2026 à 21:53

When I was growing up in the 2000s and 2010s, building a huge digital library of music was incredibly important to me. In that process, I got really into a bunch of freeware music library apps like Foobar2000 and MusicBee – if you know, you know.

While that was mostly just to have a lightweight program that I could play my entire music library regardless of codec, PC gaming is at a point where it needs a better library manager.

Pretty much every hardware manufacturer has tried to solve this by bundling library aggregation apps with hardware – just look at the Asus Armoury Crate or Legion Space. This is also what Microsoft is trying to do with its Full Screen Experience for the Xbox Ally X, working in every library into the Xbox App.

All of these programs have a problem, though. They're closed-source and won't let you interact with games that aren't already installed. Luckily, Playnite exists and is an open-source library app that'll let you import all of your games regardless of where you got them.

The Problem With PC Games

The beautiful thing about PC gaming is that it's a decentralized platform. You don't have to only get games through some official store like you do with a console like the PS5. While Steam is at the point where it's essentially the default PC games store, there are countless places to actually get your games.

In a lot of ways, that's awesome – the idea is that this competition should make all of these disparate launchers and stores better, even if that's not exactly reflected in reality all the time. But after 20 years of building up a PC games libary, I have something like 5,000 games across Steam, GOG, Battle.net, and a host of other random stores. In the past, that meant that when I wanted to play something I had to try and remember which store I bought it on, and then run it. Now, Playnite has completely changed the way I interact with my library.

How It Works

When you first install Playnite, it'll run you through a dialog where you have to select all the library integrations you want to use. It defaults to just seven, but even if you don't see some obscure app you enjoy, there's probably a community-made plugin that'll let you integrate that as well.

Then, it'll download all of the necessary plugins for those libraries and it'll have you sign into those accounts one by one. That does seem a little sketchy, but the Playnite page insists that none of the information is stored anywhere, and it's essentially the same as signing into your account on a browser. Luckily, most of these stores have APIs just for this kind of thing.

After you're signed in to everything, the program will pull your library data from the various APIs to populate your Playnite library. (In my case, with a reasonably gigantic library, this took something like 20 minutes the first time.) Then, it'll try and pull metadata for each of these games. By default it will use the Internet Games Database, but even if you don't want to use that, there are also plugins for different metadata libraries – I even found one for IGN!

Sometimes the metadata will be off, but you can right click any game, hit edit and fill in your own metadata, along with custom art for the cover image.

Once everything is imported, you're good to just use the library like that. You can launch any installed gameright from Playnite, but more importantly, anything that's not installed, you can hit 'Install' and it'll open the respective launcher and start the download for you. This process works better for some launchers than others, but I have found that it works perfectly for Steam, Epic, and Battle.net, and those are the ones I use the most anyways.

All About the Customization

Once you have everything set up, Playnite looks pretty plain. It's essentially just a library that you can scroll through with a bunch of (admittedly useful) filters to find exactly what you're looking for.

But it doesn't have to stay simple – you can customize it however you want. On the off chance you're familiar with building themes, you can do it yourself, but there are also dozens of predesigned ones you can download from the community – and they're all free.

I've been using Playnite now for something like six months and I'm still finding new things to add to it. I found a HowLongToBeat plugin that displays how long each game in my library is. I found a plugin that just displays which games are currently on PC Game Pass, which will also just let me add them to my Playnite Library or open the Xbox app to view directly.

I even found a game activity plugin that'll graph out my game time by day, week, or even which library I'm playing the most – it even has a Gantt view for some reason! There are just so many different things I can do with this program that it's become even more useful than Steam.

That deep level of personalization is the major thing a lot of third-party launchers have been missing out on, after all. Steam got as big as it did largely because it was useful for more than just launching your games. And while Valve focused on building up a community, Playnite is focused on just letting people create their own little PC gaming environment.

It worked on me; Playnite has become one of the default apps I install on any new gaming PC, and now I genuinely don't want to live without it. Maybe that's specifically because I love tinkering with metadata and curating my digital library. But, hey, I'm a digital media enthusiast from the 2000s. We were all just kind of like that.

What Is Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2?

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 is a collection of the previously PS3-exclusive 2008 game Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, as well as the HD Collection version of the 2010 PSP game Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. And for good measure, it also contains the non-canon 2000 Game Boy game Metal Gear: Ghost Babel.

This collection represents the first time MGS 4 has been available on any platform other than PlayStation 3. With Konami’s thin release schedule over the past decade or so, many fans wondered if the series’ fourth main assignment would ever be released from its PS3 prison. I, for one, am extremely glad to see that happen, because my PS3 is in some box somewhere in my basement.

And just like with Vol. 1, you don’t have to buy the whole collection if you only want one game. You can buy each of the included games individually on all the platforms’ digital storefronts.
