On Wednesday, our lame-duck PM quacked out the news that “Canada is getting high-speed rail”: this is of course duckspeak for “the usual engineering firms are being handed billions of dollars to devise a plan for high-speed rail in a 1,000-kilometre strip of Ontario and Quebec.” In the new spirit of national unity, I suppose I am not allowed to object to the idea on behalf of any of the other eight provinces.
