18 février 2025 à 10:34

After releasing a video on their expected iPhone 17 Pro design, Jon Prosser at FrontPageTech returns with another video depicting what they believe the upcoming ‘iPhone 17 Air’ will look like, the radically new addition to the iPhone family.

The Air is expected to replace the in the lineup, a mid-range model with an all-new ultra-thin chassis design. Many publications have indicated that one of the compromises will be the fact that the phone features a single rear camera. However, these renders suggest that single lens will still be housed inside a full-width protruding bar shape.

Apple’s reported plans for a larger iMac are missing something important

17 février 2025 à 13:34

The latest report on Apple’s plans for a larger iMac suggest that the company may still be missing something.

Apple did something almost unprecedented back in 2023 when it specifically confirmed there was no new 27-inch iMac on the way, but it did leave the door open for a larger iMac – perhaps something with a 32-inch screen. But a report from Mark Gurman yesterday threw something of a spanner in the works …

Is Apple working on a larger iMac?

17 février 2025 à 05:21

With the Mac transition to Apple Silicon, Apple replaced its 21.5-inch and 27-inch models with one singular 24-inch iMac. Many had assumed that there’d eventually be a larger , perhaps a 30 or 32-inch model, maybe even an iMac Pro. However, we’re yet to see that come to fruition.

Despite the fact that it’s been iMac, there’s still some hope. Lets discuss.

BenQ MA270U Review: Pairs nicely with the new Mac mini without breaking the bank

15 février 2025 à 23:38

For me, one of the biggest issues with making the switch from a MacBook to a was the display aspect of it. MacBooks all have fairly great displays, especially on the MacBook Pro. However, finding a good display that pairs nicely with a Mac desktop always feels like a little bit of a challenge.

You either have to go with Apple’s expensive options, or compromise significantly on the experience with a third party. Some common compromises include poor brightness, a lack of USB-C, or a lack of macOS integration. While the BenQ MA270U certainly isn’t a replacement, it performs excellently in all of the qualities that matter to me.

Apple just updated its refurbished M2 Mac mini pricing, they’re now a pretty great deal

15 février 2025 à 18:43

On Wednesday, Apple begun selling refurbished M4 Mac mini models on its store, starting at $509 for the base model. This was great, though there was one problem, pointed out by MacRumors on Thursday: an M2 Mac mini with the same specs would cost $50 more than an M4 model, despite the dated design.

Apple has now fixed that pricing problem, cutting refurbished model prices by at least $100.

Developer for Linux on Apple Silicon Macs resigns, citing ‘major failure of leadership’

15 février 2025 à 17:31

Yesterday morning, Hector Martin resigned from his position as project lead of Asahi Linux. This was a community effort that kicked off shortly after the Mac transition to Apple Silicon begun, in early 2021. After a ton of effort, the team finally released an alpha build of Asahi Linux for M1 and M2 Macs in early 2022. The project was going well.

However, because of burnout and an uphill battle with the Linux community, including Linus Torvalds himself, Hector Martin decided to resign. The project should ideally continue on without him.

I became a Mac user towards the end of the PowerPC era. When the switch to Intel was made, virtualization became a key use case for people looking to bridge the gap with macOS and Windows native apps. Over the last two decades, the use cases for virtualization have changed and evolved, but it’s still a key part of many workflows. When Apple switched to its own chips (Apple Silicon) in 2020, virtualization moved right along with it, but it was challenging with x86 virtualization. Technology progress is undefeated, though, as x86 emulation is now available in beta for macOS.

Security Bite: A dangerous place to be an iPhone

14 février 2025 à 21:47

Imagine you’re on your way to dinner, walking down a decently busy street during the day. You’re using your new iPhone 16 Pro for directions before, out of nowhere, a masked individual on an e-bike whips around to your side and snatches your Desert Titanium baby and zooms off. All in seconds. This sounds like a one-off insane situation, but this is precisely what happened to Dimitar Stanimiroff last week in London, England. And he’s not alone…

The most recent statistics say a phone is stolen on average every 6 minutes in London, or about 64,000 annually. It’s so common that the City of London Police deployed special task forces to snuff out these gangs and even had to publish a blog post explaining how to protect your mobile device in public.

Over the years, Apple has made impressive strides in implementing anti-theft measures like Activation Lock and inadvertent “parts pairing” rules. These features and others are meant to deter thieves and minimize situations like Stanimiroff’s. Is it enough?

9to5Mac Security Bite is exclusively brought to you by Mosyle, the only Apple Unified Platform. Making Apple devices work-ready and enterprise-safe is all we do. HomeKit Weekly: The next generation of smart home products needs to focus on being more proactive about home maintenance

14 février 2025 à 20:00

For years, the smart home conversation has revolved around making things easier and more convenient around the home. We’ve focused on products that let us turn on lights with our voice, , or set the control temperature without getting up the couch. As awesome as those things are, I’d like to see a new generation of HomeKit focused on home maintenance. I recently picked up Ting, and while it doesn’t support HomeKit, it’s giving me so many ideas on how I’d like to see the smart home of the future evolve.
