Apple Vision Pro Launching in Taiwan on December 17

Apple today announced that its Vision Pro headset will be launching in Taiwan on Tuesday, December 17, with pre-orders beginning this Thursday, December 5, at 9:00 a.m.


Apple's localized Vision Pro page for Taiwan highlights the pre-order and launch dates and provides all of the usual details about the high-end headset. The online Apple Store for Taiwan has a purchasing page already live where potential customers can check out pricing and options such as storage capacities and ZEISS optical inserts.

Apple has two retail stores in the Taiwanese capital of Taipei, and the stores will be offering 30-minute demo sessions of the Vision Pro headset. More details on the demo sessions will be announced once pre-orders begin.

Taiwan will mark the thirteenth country or region with Vision Pro availability. After launching in the United States in February, availability expanded to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the U.K., China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore in June and July. The most recent additions prior to today's announcement were South Korea and the United Arab Emirates just a few weeks ago.

Apple's 2026 Foldable iPhone Could Reinvigorate Stalling Market

The foldable smartphone market has stalled with customer interest in foldables waning, but that could change when Apple debuts a foldable iPhone, according to display analyst Ross Young.


In a report on the current foldable smartphone market, Young says that Apple is expected to "enter the foldable market" in the second half of 2026. Apple's "dominant position in flagship smartphones" could potentially lead to significant growth for the foldable market in 2026, ultimately leading to a record year for foldables.

Young expects more than 30 percent growth in the foldable market in 2026, followed by continued 20 percent growth in 2027 and 2028.

There have long been rumors suggesting that Apple is developing a foldable iPhone, and some analysts believe that Apple will finally debut a foldable iPhone around September of 2026.

The first foldable ‌iPhone‌ could be between 7.9 and 8.3 inches in size, and it may have a "clamshell" design like Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip. A clamshell ‌iPhone‌ would fold in half vertically rather than horizontally, allowing for a full-size ‌iPhone‌ when unfolded, and a smaller, pocketable device when folded.

Apple Sued for 'All-Seeing Eye' Employee Device Monitoring Policy

California Apple employee Amar Bhakta has filed a lawsuit against Apple for alleged labor violations, accusing the Cupertino company of suppressing employee speech, invading employee privacy though surveillance and inspecting personal data, and clawing back earned wages (via Semafor).


Bhakta sued Apple after Apple prohibited him from speaking about his work experience on podcasts and also instructed him to remove information about his "working conditions and work experiences" from his LinkedIn profile. He says that Apple's policies prevent employees from adequately describing their job responsibilities, accomplishments, and professional growth on sites like LinkedIn, hindering their ability to find employment.

Further, Bhakta claims that Apple employees are prohibited from disclosing the skills, knowledge, and experience they gained at Apple when working for a subsequent employer, plus they are not allowed to speak with each other or outsiders about problems at work like harassment, discrimination, or unfair treatment.

Apple employees are required to use Apple devices, software, and services, and the devices "collect and use the valuable personal data" of employees during non-work periods. The lawsuit states that employees have to agree to physical, video, and electronic surveillance by Apple, with Apple able to search Apple and non-Apple devices and other property when an employee is on "company premises," including in a home office. The Apple ecosystem is described as a "prison yard" for employees, with workers subject to "Apple's all-seeing eye" both on and off duty.

The lawsuit takes issue with Apple's requirement that employees use Apple collaboration tools with an iCloud account, often a personal ‌iCloud‌ account. Bhakta says Apple allowed him to choose to use an Apple-owned iPhone or a personal ‌iPhone‌ for work, and when he chose his personal phone, Apple installed an eSIM and VPN, and required him to use his personal ‌iCloud‌ account to collaborate with colleagues. He claims that Apple has forced him to remain an Apple consumer, and that he is required to continue to patronize Apple.

Bhakta was hired at Apple in July 2020 as a Digital Ad Tech/Operations Manager, and he was required to sign documents listing the the Apple policies that are cited in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit seeks damages for violations of the California Labor Code as well as "appropriate injunctive relief" to protect California Apple employees from future violations.

Paid Version of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Now Available

Nintendo today debuted Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete, a paid offline version of Pocket Camp that lets customers continue to play now that the freemium version of the game has been shut down.


The original Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp game was shuttered last week on November 29, almost exactly seven years after it launched. Because it was a freemium game, there are players who invested a lot of money in various items in the game, so Pocket Camp Complete allows those players to continue to play the base version of the game.

Nintendo has stopped all events and updates now that the online version of Pocket Camp has been discontinued. Pocket Camp saves can be transferred to Pocket Camp Complete and the game has many of the same features, but there is no support for visiting and interacting with other players or receiving gifts. It does not have in-app purchases, nor is there an online connection.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete is available from the App Store for $9.99. Saves can be transferred until June 2, 2025, and transferring a save requires a Nintendo Account.

Alongside Apple's annual Apple Pay donation campaign supporting The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria that's currently underway around World AIDS Day, the company has historically offered a selection of its products under the related (RED) brand.


While we recently noted that Apple has been scaling back its (PRODUCT)RED portfolio over the past few years, the company's Beats brand yesterday announced a collaboration with British Nigerian designer Yinka Ilori for (BEATS)RED Beats Solo 4 headphones with a limited-edition packaging design.

Unfortunately, there's a catch, which is that these new (BEATS)RED headphones aren't available for sale as they are a custom product to help create awareness around World AIDS Day and the (RED) campaign.

Coinbase Onramp Now Supports Buying Crypto With Apple Pay

Cryptocurrency platform Coinbase today announced the launch of a new feature designed to let people buy cryptocurrency using Apple Pay.


‌Apple Pay‌ is available for all fiat-to-crypto purchases (aka paper currencies like the U.S. dollar) in Coinbase Onramp, a tool that developers and websites can use to accept crypto payments from customers.


With ‌Apple Pay‌ integration in Coinbase Onramp, a customer can use ‌Apple Pay‌ to buy an item or a service, paying in dollars that are converted to cryptocurrency for the merchant. Coinbase promises a straightforward verification process and free offramping.

Coinbase says that Coinbase Onramp users can expect a faster end-to-end experience with fiat-to-crypto conversion that takes seconds, access to the most popular payment methods, and easier onramping for U.S. customers that use ‌Apple Pay‌.

Developers who already use Coinbase Onramp don't need to do anything, and their customers will see ‌Apple Pay‌ available as an option when making an eligible purchase.

Apple Warns Developers About Longer App Review Times During the Holidays

Apple today informed developers that App Store review times could increase as the 25th approaches, with Apple recommending that developers start getting their apps and games up to date and ready for the season.


There was a time where Apple would shut down ‌App Store‌ Connect entirely during the week of Christmas and not accept new app or app review submissions at all, but reviews now continue throughout the holiday.

Apple says that it is anticipating a high volume of app submissions, and reviews could take longer to complete between December 20 and December 26. Developers should submit time-sensitive submissions early to ensure they get through review in time.
The busiest season on the App Store is almost here.

Make sure your apps and games are up to date and ready. App Review will continue to accept submissions throughout the holiday season.

Please plan to submit time-sensitive submissions early, as we anticipate high volume and reviews may take longer to complete from December 20-26.
Developers often like to offer sales, promotions, and new content during December as people receive new devices, ‌App Store‌ gift cards, and more during the holiday period.

Tesla App for Apple Watch Coming This Month

Tesla will soon allow Apple Watch users to unlock and control their vehicle using a dedicated watchOS app for the first time.


Tesla today announced that, starting later this month, owners will gain the ability to use their Apple Watch as a digital key for their car, providing functions previously limited to the smartphone app. The upcoming watchOS app will enable users to unlock or lock their vehicle, open the trunk and frunk, check the battery status, and adjust climate control settings.

Currently, Tesla owners using smartwatches have to rely on third-party applications like Watch for Tesla to perform many of these functions. Tesla will automatically install the Apple Watch version for users who update the companion app on their iPhones later this month as the new version rolls out. Users of Wear OS devices currently have no timeline for receiving a similar app. The watchOS app is part of Tesla's broader annual holiday update, which includes features like remote access to Sentry Mode recordings and improvements to navigation.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger Retires Amid Company's Decline

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger has retired following a challenging tenure marked by the company's struggles to compete against Apple and other major chipmakers.


Intel today announced that Gelsinger, who served as the company's CEO since early 2021, officially stepped down on December 1, 2024, concluding a 40-plus-year career at the company. Gelsinger's leadership began with bold aspirations, particularly in addressing the growing influence of Apple Silicon. Intel faced a significant challenge when Apple announced in 2020 that it would transition its Mac lineup from Intel processors to its own custom-designed chips, beginning with the M1, which outperform Intel's offerings. This decision signaled a substantial shift in the industry and a major blow to Intel's dominance.

Gelsinger rejoined Intel in 2021, replacing then-CEO Bob Swan, at a critical moment for the company. His tenure began with a striking statement at an all-hands meeting, where he described Apple as a "lifestyle company" and emphasized Intel's need to deliver superior products. He said, "We have to deliver better products to the PC ecosystem than any possible thing that a lifestyle company in Cupertino can do. We have to be that good."

Apple's move to ‌Apple Silicon‌ was highly significant for the chip industry. The ‌M1‌ chip, built on an architecture designed in-house by Apple, offered unparalleled performance-per-watt, reshaping consumer expectations for computing power and energy efficiency. Subsequent iterations, including the M2, M3, and M4 families of chips, further cemented Apple's lead over Intel. Under Gelsinger's leadership, Intel responded with marketing campaigns that sought to highlight some of the perceived shortcomings of Apple's Macs. Some of these campaigns included former Apple "I'm a Mac" commercial star Justin Long.

In an interview with Axios shortly after assuming his role as CEO, Gelsinger acknowledged Intel's "stumbles" in retaining Apple's business and stated his intent to "create a better chip" to win Apple back. He expressed a broader vision for Intel to become a foundry partner for companies like Apple, saying, "Apple is a customer, and I hope to make them a big foundry customer because today they're wholly dependent on Taiwan Semiconductor."

Despite Gelsinger's efforts, Intel subsequently faced significant challenges. For example, the company struggled with delays in its 18A manufacturing process, which was intended to be a key component of its competitive recovery. Apple and other major companies such as Qualcomm passed on the technology due to reliability issues. Meanwhile, Apple's partnership with TSMC has only further deepened.

Gelsinger's tenure also coincided with a period of rapid advancement in AI technology, where Intel also found itself at a disadvantage. Nvidia, whose GPUs are widely used in AI workloads, captured significant market share as demand for AI-related processing surged. Intel's Gaudi line of AI accelerators, intended to compete with Nvidia's offerings, failed to gain traction. Meanwhile, Apple's custom silicon chips include a dedicated Neural Engine for machine learning and AI operations.

Gelsinger sought to restore Intel's manufacturing competitiveness by spearheading ambitious plans to build new fabrication facilities, including a massive complex in Ohio, supported by funding from the CHIPS Act. However, these long-term investment efforts did little to address the immediate challenges facing the company.

Intel's revenue and market valuation declined significantly during Gelsinger's tenure. By 2024, the company's share price had fallen by nearly 50% for the year, while Nvidia and Apple continue to thrive. Analysts estimate Intel will record its first annual net loss since 1986. Intel's stock price today rose 5% following the news of Gelsinger's departure.

In his parting remarks, Gelsinger reflected on his career and the challenges he faced during his time as CEO, stating "Leading Intel has been the honor of my lifetime. I can look back with pride at all that we have accomplished together." His departure leaves Intel in a transitional phase, with interim co-CEOs David Zinsner and Michelle Johnston Holthaus tasked with steering the company as it searches for a permanent successor.

Apple to Keep Titanium Chassis for iPhone 17 Pro Models, Claims Leaker

Next year's iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a titanium chassis just like the current Pro models, contrary to reports of Apple adopting aluminum across its 2025 lineup, claims the Weibo leaker known as "Instant Digital."


Last month, The Information's Wayne Ma reported that Apple's two flagship ‌iPhone 17‌ Pro models would be the first high-end iPhones to feature an aluminum frame since the delineation of the iPhone lineup into Pro and non-Pro models.

Prior to the iPhone 15 Pro, high-end ‌iPhone‌ models used stainless steel frames. Then Apple introduced a titanium chassis to the iPhone 15 Pro, touting it as a major upgrade. However, Ma reports that with the ‌iPhone 17‌ lineup, Apple is planning to transition the entire range of devices back to aluminum.

Instant Digital doesn't agree, though. "Of course the iPhone 17 Pro will still use titanium," said the leaker in a Weibo post (machine translation). "Why would anyone believe it would switch to aluminum? Think about it — it's just not possible. Looking back at recent iPhone models, Apple has consistently emphasized the premium frame materials of the Pro series as one of its key selling points, from 'surgical-grade stainless steel' to 'titanium.' If they switched to aluminum, how could they even market it?"

It's unclear if the Weibo leaker has supply chain information to back up their claim, but as a standalone argument, it's not particularly water-tight. The Information's Ma reported that the switch to aluminum is part of a major design change that includes an aluminum upper back with a "rectangular camera bump made of aluminum rather than traditional 3D glass," with the bottom half of the device's back continuing to be made of glass to support wireless charging.

Apple is also no stranger to touting breakthrough iPhone features only to remove them in later models. In 2015, for example, 3D Touch was introduced with the iPhone 6s as a revolutionary way to interact with the iPhone through pressure-sensitive gestures like Peek and Pop. Apple unceremoniously ditched 3D Touch and the capacitive sensors that enabled it with the iPhone 11 in 2019.


Instant Digital has a mixed reputation for accuracy with Apple rumors but has delivered some notably precise predictions. These include the 2023 launch of the Yellow iPhone 14, the frosted back glass on the iPhone 15 and ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus, the Apple Watch Series 9 being a minor refresh, spatial video capture on the ‌iPhone 15‌ Pro, the addition of a landscape front-facing camera to the iPad Air and iPad Pro, and the ‌iPad Pro‌'s nano-texture display option.

The iPhone 17 series is expected to launch as usual in the fall, with new display sizes, a rumored new ultra-thin model, ProMotion displays across the lineup, and more.

Apple Nudges HomeKit Robot Vacuum Support Rollout to Next Year

Apple has quietly tweaked its Home app webpage to indicate that its upcoming robot vacuum control feature will now arrive in early 2025 rather than later this year, as previously advertised.


When support is added, Apple device users will be able to start a robot vacuum via HomeKit automations and scenes, or ask Siri to clean a specific room. Apple says the Home app will support the "core functionality" of robot vacuum cleaners, such as vacuuming, mopping, power control, cleaning mode, and charge status.

Apple said at WWDC in June that the iOS 18 feature would arrive later in 2024 – presumably with iOS 18.2, due this month – but that's apparently no longer the case. Apple tweaked a footnote on the Home app webpage in early November, signaling the delay. When it does arrive, controlling robot vacuums with Siri will initially be available in English (U.S.) only.

WhatsApp to Drop Support for These iPhones Starting May 2025

WhatsApp is set to end support for iOS versions older than iOS 15.1 from May next year, removing the chat platform's compatibility with several iPhone models in the process.


From May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will no longer be compatible with iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus models. Users with those devices won't be able to access the encrypted chat service after the specified date unless they upgrade their iPhone.

Users who intend to upgrade can back up their WhatsApp chats to iCloud, and restore their full chat and media history to a newer, supported device using using WhatsApp's Chat Transfer feature. Instructions on how to do so are outlined in WhatsApp's Help Center.

Although Black Friday has ended, Cyber Week is here and you can find great deals on numerous Apple devices right now. This includes big savings on AirPods, Apple Watch, MacBook Air, iPad, and more.

Starting with AirPods, you'll find Amazon has the base model AirPods 4 for $119.00 and the AirPods 4 with ANC for $164.99. While the base model is at a second-best price, the model with ANC has hit a new all-time low on Amazon at $15 off.


AirPods Max (USB-C)




You can get the new AirPods Max with USB-C for $499.99 on Amazon this week, down from $549.00. This price is just a few dollars higher compared to the previous record low price.



AirPods Max (Lightning)




The older AirPods Max with Lightning are on sale for $399.00 on Amazon this week, down from $549.00. You'll find all five colors on sale at this price.

You can get the 64GB Wi-Fi 9th generation iPad for $199.99 in both colors at Best Buy, down from $329.00. This is a match of the record low price on this version of the 2021 tablet.

Moving to the newer models, Amazon has the 64GB Wi-Fi 10th generation iPad for $279.99, down from $349.00. You can also get the 256GB Wi-Fi iPad for $429.00 at Amazon, down from $499.00. We tracked better prices for Black Friday, but these are solid second-best options if you missed those deals.

Best Buy today has a big selection of discounts on Apple's M2 iPad Air, with savings of about $100 across a few models.

Amazon has the AirPods Pro 2 at $154.00 for Black Friday, down from $249.00. This is just $1 away from the all-time low price on the AirPods Pro 2.

Lowest Ever Price: $99 Off



For iPads, Amazon has the 64GB Wi-Fi 10th generation iPad for $249.99 with an on-page coupon, down from $349.00. This deal has dwindled from multiple colors on sale at this price to just one, so if you haven't picked it up yet, be sure to do so this weekend.

Apple's 40mm GPS Apple Watch SE is available for $149.00 this weekend on Amazon, down from $249.00. This is a new record low price on the wearable. This deal is available in all three aluminum color options, and we're also tracking a similar $100 discount on the 44mm GPS model.

Amazon introduced a new record low price on the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation for Black Friday 2024, and they're still available at $164.99, down from $179.00.

Shot on iPhone: Wallace & Gromit on Display at Apple's UK Headquarters

Apple today announced that a new stop-motion animation featuring Wallace & Gromit will be projected onto London's Battersea Power Station this holiday season. The festive, six-minute video will be shown every day from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. from today until New Year's Eve. It is free to watch, and reservations are not needed.


Apple is promoting the animation as part of its latest "Shot on iPhone" campaign. Aardman, the animation studio that created Wallace & Gromit, filmed the stop-motion video with the Telephoto camera on eight iPhone 16 Pro Max devices.

"Aardman used the Dragonframe Tether app and eight iPhone 16 Pro devices in Telephoto mode to make Wallace & Gromit, Shot on iPhone," said Apple. "They shot full 4K stills in ProRAW format, before stitching them together to achieve the 6K image needed to turn their 23‑centimeter characters into 101‑meter projections."

The animation transforms two towers into Christmas trees on the side of the building facing the River Thames. Visitors can watch Wallace & Gromit decorate the trees, and then "snap a selfie" in front of the fully-decorated trees.


"This project has been a dream to direct — a cinematic fusion of tech and art," said Aardman's director and graphic design lead Gavin Strange. "Shooting stop-motion animation on iPhone 16 Pro Max with the legendary Wallace & Gromit, to then be projected onto the iconic Battersea Power Station, makes this unique in so many ways. I hope that this Christmas, everyone feels inspired to start shooting their own stop-motion masterpieces with iPhone, and I'm excited and proud of what we've all created."

Battersea Power Station has been home to Apple's U.K. headquarters since last year, and the company also has a store there. In front of the store, the Wallace & Gromit set used to create the stop-motion will be on display.



More details about this "Shot on iPhone" campaign, including an upcoming "Today at Apple" session with Aardman, are available on Apple's website. The project has also been promoted on the Battersea Power Station's website.

The MacRumors Show: iPhone 17 Designs Revealed!

On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we discuss the recently leaked design of the iPhone 17 "Air" and ‌iPhone 17‌ Pro.


Earlier this week, a report from The Information's Wayne Ma revealed that the ‌iPhone 17‌ Air will have a thickness of between 5mm and 6mm, which would make it the thinnest iPhone ever. In comparison, iPhone 16 models are 7.8mm thick and iPhone 16 Pro models are 8.25mm thick.

Due to this ultra-thin design, some compromises are said to be necessary. The device currently lacks a physical SIM card tray, a speaker on the bottom edge, an ultra-wide camera, and ultra-fast mmWave 5G support. Unsurprisingly, the device will also have a "smaller battery" than current iPhones, but it remains to be seen how battery life ultimately compares.

With just one camera, the unit is expected to be large and centered on the rear of the device for a dramatically different look compared to current models. The device should launch in September 2025 alongside the standard ‌iPhone 17‌ and ‌iPhone 17‌ Pro models, with no ‌iPhone 17‌ Plus expected.

Meanwhile, the ‌iPhone 17‌ Pro and ‌iPhone 17‌ Pro Max are expected to offer some of the most significant design changes in years. Both models will drop titanium and return to an aluminum frame for a more lightweight design and feature a new part-aluminum, part-glass rear to enable continued support for wireless charging. The camera bump is also purportedly larger and rectangular, cut into the aluminum top half of the rear rather than 3D glass.

Cyber Monday Streaming Deals Include Big Savings on Disney+, Hulu, Paramount+, and Peacock

Black Friday is over, but you can still find great savings on streaming memberships this weekend as we head into Cyber Monday. Some of the biggest services have great discounts for new and select returning members, including Disney+, Hulu, Paramount+, and Peacock.

Disney+ and Hulu


Starting with the Disney+ and Hulu bundle, you can get Hulu (with ads) and Disney+ (with ads) for $2.99 per month for an entire year, down from the regular $10.99 per month price. This offer is valid for new and eligible returning Hulu/Disney+ subscribers.



As usual, this offer will revert to the regular $10.99 per month price (or then-current regular monthly price) at the end of your first year. Shoppers have until 11:59 p.m. PST on December 2 to take advantage of this offer.

Additionally, if you just want Hulu (with ads), you can get it for $0.99 per month for a year, down from $9.99 per month.

Paramount+


You can get either Paramount+ Essential or Paramount+ with Showtime for $2.99 per month for your first two months this Black Friday. Paramount+ Essential is typically priced at $7.99 per month, while Paramount+ with Showtime is typically priced at $12.99 per month.



Shoppers should remember that this deal is only for the first two months of your Paramount+ subscription, and after that period it will return to its regular pricing structure. Paramount+ is only focusing on monthly plans this Black Friday, and there are no deals on annual plans.

Peacock


Peacock has one of the best all-around streaming deals this week. You can get a full year of Peacock (premium annual plan) for $19.99, down from $79.99. You can also opt to pay $1.99 per month for six months. This plan includes ads.



This sale will run through December 2, and is available to new and select returning customers.
