If you're buying a new iPad Pro, your old magnetic stand won't work

Don't even try using an old iPad Pro magnetic stand with the new models because they won't work, the iPad will slip, and so you could even damage your new device.

An older iPad Pro firmly gripped by magnets in a stand

It isn't as if the risk of damage to your new iPad Pro is great, but even the new, stronger design is vulnerable at the corners. So if you did try mounting the new iPad Pro on a stand built for the old one, it will fall and it will likely strike the desk or ground on one of those edges.

The reason you can't use that expensive old stand is down to the redesign of the iPad Pro and ultimately because of how much thinner it is than its predecessor. But this is not like when Apple released the last version of the iPad Pro in 2021.

Apple TV hardware storage limits will keep most emulators away

The developer behind iPhone emulator app Delta has revealed that one key limitation in Apple's tvOS is why he isn't making a version for Apple TV.

Minecraft used to be on Apple TV but was pulled

Apple TV is not short of games, since it has Apple Arcade, but an online developer conversation has highlighted how every game and every app on tvOS has to deal with a storage limitation. Each has a maximum of 500KB in which to save anything they need, from scores to saved games, or in the case of emulators, even game ROMs.

Writing on Mastodon, Berlin-based developer and author of a book on Swift, Ole Begemann, explains that more than 500KB can be saved, but at a risk.

Don't get too excited about new iPhone trade-in bonuses from Apple

Apple apparently must not want to clear out stocks before the iPhone 16 launches too badly, as the trade-in bonuses it has started offering can be beaten easily by the carriers.

As rumored, Apple did in fact increase trade-in values on older iPhones on Monday. Contrary to that report, though, you can apply the trade-in credit to any available iPhone, and not just the iPhone 15.

The bonuses are very low for the most part. The maximum increase is a $30 increase on the iPhone 13 mini to $300.

Mac Pro and Mac Studio refreshes may wait till 2025

A new report claims that Apple's current schedule doesn't include updates to its Mac Pro and Mac Studio machines until the middle of 2025.

Mac Studio and Mac Pro may stick with M2 chips until 2025.

The Mac Studio and Mac Pro got their most recent refreshes at the 2023 WWDC, it may be a bit of a wait for the next refresh. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the two pro-level Macs will be skipped in 2024. If accurate, this would mean a two-year refresh cycle for Apple's current highest-end machines.

Apple's M3 chip debuted with Pro and Max versions out of the gate, at the October 2023 MacBook Pro-centric event. Other chips started at the base, and worked their ways up to Pro, Max, and Ultra.

"This is our store," Steve Jobs said, as he introduced the Apple Store for the first time. He did it in a video launch on May 15, 2001, just ahead of the first-ever Apple Stores opening the following Saturday.

Schiller fails to convince skeptical judge over Apple's App Store fees

Judge Yvonne Gonzalez-Rogers remains unconvinced of Apple's rationale for claiming it is complying with her original order, following testimony from Apple Fellow Phil Schiller.

Epic continues to belittle Apple's app store practices while mirroring them in its own store

As part of the ongoing complaint from Epic Games questioning Apple's compliance with the judge's original orders, Schiller and another executive tried to explain how the company arrived at its recent 27 percent commission fee change.

They also refuted the judge's assertion that there is "no data" that the effective commission rate for developers is, on average, lower. Apple has a number of exceptions, including ongoing subscriptions and no commission at all for free apps, that result in an overall lower fee burden.

There are plenty of reasons to take up cycling. Beyond being an excellent way to incorporate exercise into your daily routine, its probably the best method of transportation for those in-between distances that are too far to walk but too close to drive.

However, traditional bikes can be a bit limited. For instance, during the summer, arriving at work drenched in sweat might not be appreciated by your co-workers. This is where electric bikes, like the Tenway CGO600 Pro, really make themselves useful.

The popular site posted a video featuring what it calls the "destruction" of the Apple Pencil Pro and the latest iPad Pro model. The video shows significant changes to the design of the iPad Pro that make it more repairable, but the new Apple Pencil Pro's design is quite the opposite.

The new video follows a previous teardown of the M4-based 13-inch iPad Pro by YouTuber Phone Repair Guru. That video noted that while it was more difficult to get into the new iPad Pro, once the screen was separated the other design changes made it more repairable than previous models.

Apple to increase trade-in value of older iPhones in new promotion

With the iPhone 16 on the horizon, Apple is reportedly taking steps to clear out stocks of the iPhone 15 family of devices.

Picture of two older iPhone models with light green and purple coloring
iPhones older than the 13 models will be worth more in trade-in soon.

Starting on May 20th, Apple will allegedly boost the amount of credit paid for trading in older iPhones towards the purchase of any iPhone 15 model in the US and Canada. The report, from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, says the promotion will run until June 3rd.

The boosted trade-in promotion may not apply to very recent models, such as the iPhone 13 and 14 iPhones, and most recent iPhone SE. Instead, Apple is looking to encourage customers who have held on to older iPhones to make the leap to an iPhone 15 model.
