Venom: The Last Dance Is the Last Venom Movie, Sony Pictures Chairman Says

18 mai 2024 à 01:05

Sony has revealed that the third Venom movie, Venom: The Last Dance, will be the last film in the series starring Tom Hardy.

Sony Motion Picture Group Chairman Tom Rothman spoke about the future of its Marvel offshoot trilogy during a conversation with Deadline. He says that movies like the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, as well as the next Tom Holland Spider-Man film, will be a “significant event” for fans. Included in the list of major, upcoming releases is Venom 3.

“The third and last Venom, is going to be huge,” Rothman says.

Venom began its trilogy run in 2018, introducing moviegoers to a dark take on the Marvel anti-hero without its superhero obsession, Spider-Man. A sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, then followed in 2021. It brought Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady – and the titular Carnage – into the mix with direction from The Lord of the Rings actor Andy Serkis.

The last time we saw Hardy’s Eddie Brock, it wasn’t actually in a solo Venom film. Toward the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, the character appeared as a last-second movie stinger before being sent back to his own world. Thanks to an early set photo, we can guess that Venom: The Last Dance will pick up where that movie left off. Other story details remain a mystery.

Venom: The Last Dance got its official title in March of this year. Look forward to its premiere come October 25, 2024. For more on Spider-Man’s symbiote nemesis, you can read our Venom: Let There Be Carnage review. We gave the sequel a 7/10, saying, “Venom: Let There Be Carnage improves on everything from the first movie, leaning into its own absurdity. While it plays it a little safe, it still points the series in an exciting direction.”

Elden Ring's Latest Enemy Reveal Looks Familiar For More Than One Reason

17 mai 2024 à 21:31

Elden Ring developer FromSoftware has teased another gruesome foe ahead of the release of its highly anticipated DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, next month.

An image of the enemy, a gold-faced, long-haired being with bladed disc-like weapons, was shared on the official Elden Ring X (formerly Twitter) account. Story details about how the unnamed creature fits into the wider world of Elden Ring were not revealed, leaving players to guess how it may play a part.

“Fearsome foes of unfathomable power await you in the Realm of Shadow,” the post says.

— ELDEN RING (@ELDENRING) May 17, 2024

Players speculate that the hunched, golden-dress-wearing enemy may be one of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’s new bosses. Some have gone as far as to guess that the creature may be related to Godwyn the Golden, as they share a similar scar on their back. The enemy also features the same, twisted Omen horns as Mohg and Morgott, Godwyn’s brothers.

It’s hard to guess exactly how the mysterious enemy fits into Elden Ring lore without playing Shadow of the Erdtree for ourselves, but some theories do have us scratching our heads. There have also, of course, been plenty of fans pointing out that the image FromSoftware shared looks undeniably like a uterus.

Fallout Is Coming to Fortnite Battle Royale Based on New Tease

17 mai 2024 à 19:07

Fortnite has officially announced that a Fallout collaboration is on the way.

The mega-hit battle royale title’s official X/Twitter account confirmed the news today, sharing an image that show’s a dusty landscape and a proud-looking individual in some Brotherhood of Steel T-60 power armor. The post itself doesn’t share anything about what the crossover will entail outside of referencing Vault Boy’s iconic wink-and-thumbs-up pose.

Developer Epic Games also updated Fornite’s in-game news feed, confirming that Chapter 5 Season 3: Wrecked will arrive “courtesy of the Brotherhood of Steel” one week from today on May 24.

Fans will have to guess what Fallout content will drop into Fortnite, but with so many characters, items, and moments to pull from, there’s no telling what we have to look forward to. It at least looks like the Brotherhood of Steel, arguably Fallout’s most recognizable faction, will show up in some form, perhaps as a purchasable skin. Some music from the series, such as The Ink Spots’ I Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire, could also pop up in some form, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see a Vault Boy skin either.

Fallout’s origin goes back to the release of the original game in the late ‘90s. Although it’s only grown in popularity since, the Bethesda and Microsoft IP seemed to reach new heights with the release of Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout TV series last month. With that in mind, players may want to consider that some of its characters, like Ella Purnell’s Lucy, Aaron Moten’s Maximus, and Walton Goggins’ Ghoul, could make appearances.

With the next season of Fortnite primed to launch so soon, it shouldn’t be too long before we learn more about what the Fallout collab has in store. For now, players are still enjoying Chapter 5 Season 2: Myths and Mortals.

For more on Bethesda’s bombshell post-apocalyptic franchise, you can read about why we think the original Fallout games deserve to be remastered. You can also read up on why Nintendo wouldn't let Samus join Fornite.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 Gets 2025 Release Date, M3GAN 2.0 Moves Back One Month

16 mai 2024 à 23:29

Universal and Blumhouse have set a release date for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 that will bring the animatronic horror sequel to theaters on December 5, 2025, per Variety.

The calendar update also brings new dates for a handful of other Blumhouse titles. M3GAN 2.0 is now premiering one month later than planned, moving from May 16, 2025, to June 27, 2025. The Black Phone 2 was hit with a more significant delay and will now arrive October 17, 2025, instead of its June 27, 2025 date.

The Woman in the Yard and Drop were both added to Blumhouse’s release schedule, too. Expect to see the former come to audiences on March 28, 2025, with the latter set to land on April 11, 2025. Today’s calendar update puts Blumhouse releases in March, April, June, October, and December, giving the studio a stacked set of offerings throughout the year.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is probably its most anticipated release coming in the near future. After bringing the hit indie horror game to the big screen last year, Blumhouse announced that the film managed to be its biggest movie opening of all time. A sequel was unsurprisingly announced in April and originally promised a fall 2025 release.

The December date means Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will be out slightly later than expected. This is also M3GAN 2.0’s second delay, as its original date was previously set for January 17 of next year. Story details for Blumhouse's 2025 slate largely remain a mystery, but we might have at least a few clues regarding what's in store for Freddy Fazbear.

For more on Blumhouse, you can read our Five Nights at Freddy’s review. We didn’t enjoy the film quite as much as others did, giving it a 4/10 in our review. At the time, we said, “This big-screen take on the indie-horror sensation has too much plot and not enough of the game's primal security-cam thrills.”

MultiVersus Details Rifts, Its New Single-Player Mode

16 mai 2024 à 23:19

Developer Player First Games has published a video that walks players through the new MultiVersus PvE Rift Mode ahead of its relaunch in a few weeks.

The developer detailed the mode in a highlight video hosted by Scooby Doo’s Velma and Adventure Time’s Finn and Jake. While MultiVersus is known for its PvP modes that pit Warner Bros. icons against one another, Rifts offers players the chance to sharpen their skills with single-player and online co-op activities.

Rifts launch players into gameplay scenarios with twists to keep you on your toes. Each Rift has Nodes that range from a standard battle to a mini-game challenge. One example of the many shown in the trailer sees Bugs Bunny attacking targets while collecting stars. Nodes also have unique mutators, which can add additional challenge or even story elements into the mix.

As mini-games and bosses are taken down, players will earn Gems that can raise stats and grant special effects. Player First says Rifts give players an assortment of activities to enjoy outside of PvP, with more content said to be added in future updates.

Player First has been busy prepping players for MultiVersus’ return later this month. Last week, it was announced that legendary DC Comics villain, Joker, would join its roster of playable Warner Bros. characters. He’ll be voiced by longtime actor Mark Hamill, reuniting him with the late Kevin Conroy, who provided his chops as Batman for the game before he passed. More information about the re-release was announced in March.

MultiVersus launches for free on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S come May 28. For more, you can check out our 8/10 review of the project’s 2022 release. At the time, we said, “MultiVersus may not be a must-play at social gatherings, but its refreshing team-based battles make it a great platform fighter online.”

First Project From Rockstar Co-Founder's Studio Is an Audio Fiction Series Starring Andrew Lincoln

16 mai 2024 à 19:59

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser's studio, Absurd Ventures, has revealed that its first project is an audio fiction series starring Andrew Lincoln called A Better Paradise Volume One: An Aftermath.

The outside-the-box project is out in less than a month, as its debut visual trailer promises a release date of June 10, 2024, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and “wherever you get your podcasts.” The footage offers passing shots of human faces with splashes of color and ambient music while a few nameless characters speak about an ambitious game creator, Dr. Mark Tyburn. It’s not quite Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption, but the “Volume One” title does tease that the story will continue to unfold in the future.

— Absurd Ventures (@AbsurdVentures) May 16, 2024

“Set in the near future, A BETTER PARADISE tells the story of the ill-fated development of an ambitious but addictive digital game-world project led by inventor and psychologist, Dr. Mark Tyburn,” an official description says. “As the advanced software they developed began delivering unexpected and disturbing results, the team fell apart under strange circumstances and the project was abandoned. The game world and the super-intelligence within were discarded, left dormant and undiscovered. Until now.”

Absurd Ventures says A Better Paradise Volume One: An Aftermath tells its story over the course of 12 episodes. In addition to The Walking Dead star Lincoln, the audio narrative features appearances from Shamier Anderson (John Wick: Chapter 4, Race), Paterson Joseph (Wonka, Neverwhere), and Rain Spencer (The Summer I Turned Pretty, Good Girl Jane).

Houser left Rockstar in March 2020 following an extended break that began in 2019. He went on to officially pull back the curtain on Absurd Ventures in 2021, revealing the studio as a United Kingdom-located endeavor.

Meanwhile, Rockstar fans are still looking forward to all of the latest on Grand Theft Auto 6. Recent rumors have suggested that audiences may soon get a first look at new screenshots for GTA 6, while Red Dead Redemption players continue to look for hope that a PC version of the original game will eventually release.

Toys for Bob Updates Website With Simple Purple Tiki Mask, Sparking Speculation Over Next Project

15 mai 2024 à 22:11

It looks like Toys for Bob is beginning its next chapter, and it’s starting with a mysterious purple tiki mask.

The Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time and Spyro Reignited Trilogy developer published the strange picture in a new update on its website. Those who head to the site will notice that an image of a purple, teeth-clenching tiki head is now the only accessible page.

It’s unclear what it could mean, but there is a good chance the mask is simply Toys for Bob’s new logo. Opening the image reveals that it’s named “TFB_LogoVector_TikiMask-purple.” It’s also been pointed out that the Toys for Bob offices have been tiki-themed in the past. Still, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating that the image may be tied to a new game.

In March, Windows Central reported that Xbox would still work with the developer on its next game following the news that Toys for Bob would be going indepedent earlier this year. Microsoft also finalized its acquisition of Activision last year, so if Xbox and Toys for Bob have indeed come to an agreement, then the developer could theoretically be working on a Crash Bandicoot and/or Spyro the Dragon game.

The presence of the tiki mask has many fans believing that Crash Bandicoot 5 is in development. Others, meanwhile have pointed out that its purple coloring could be pointing to a new Spyro game.

A mask that looks to be from a Crash game but it has the purple color from Spyro? What if their next game ends up being a crossover?

— KAMI (@Okami13_) May 15, 2024

It’s best to not assume such a project is in development until Toys for Bob has more to announce. The studio separated itself from Activision and Microsoft in February, expressing a desire to return to its roots as “a small and nimble studio.”

“With the same enthusiasm and passion, we believe that now is the time to take the studio and our future games to the next level,” Toys for Bob said at the time.

We enjoyed the studio's last game, Crash 4, giving it an 8/10 in our review. We said, "Crash Bandicoot 4 is a great return to form, with some new ideas that add a fresh spin to Crash's classic gameplay."

The Weasley Twins Are Hosting a Harry Potter-Themed Baking Show on Food Network

15 mai 2024 à 20:51

James and Oliver Phelps, the twin actors best known for playing Fred and George Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, are brewing up a food competition show called Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking, per Variety.

The site shares that Warner Bros. Discovery U.S. networks chief Kathleen Finch announced the news during an upfront presentation in New York City today. The eight-film series the Phelps brothers appeared in ended nearly 13 years ago, but their new show will attempt to keep the magic alive on Food Network and on Max streaming service.

Instead of attending and defending Hogwarts, the Phelp brothers will use the wizard-themed show to take viewers to iconic areas from across the Harry Potter series.

“Viewers will see beloved locations, including inside The Great Hall at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Platform 9¾, Gringotts Wizarding Bank, The Burrow as well as props, costumes, and clips from the blockbuster films,” an official description says. “Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking will delight viewers as it blends the magic of Harry Potter with the very real talent of exceptional pastry chefs.”

Variety says production on Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking will begin in the U.K. “shortly.” Additional details, including contestants and release date information, have yet to be revealed.

While Harry Potter began as a book series in the late ‘90s, the franchise has ballooned into an entirely different beast in the decades since. In addition to the long-running series of films led by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, the IP has spawned multiple offshoots and spinoffs across movies, TV, games, and literature.

Last year saw the release of Warner Bros. Games’ Hogwarts Legacy. The open-world video game has helped fans with the wait for more from the Wizarding World while spinoff film series, Fantastic Beasts, remains on the back burner. There is at least some content scheduled for the future, as Warner Bros. Discovery is still putting together its Harry Potter TV series, with plans to deliver it in 2026.

With so much material to pull from, there’s no telling what guest stars and iconic dishes will worm their way into Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking. For more while we wait, check out the rest of the biggest TV shows coming in 2024.

House of the Dragon Writer Says Shortened Season 2 Wasn't Their Call, Now Deep Into Writing Season 3

15 mai 2024 à 00:35

House of the Dragon series writer Sara Hess has commented on the somewhat shorter length of the Game of Thrones spinoff’s Season 2, saying that it “It wasn’t really our choice.”

Hess, along with series co-creator and showrunner Ryan Condal and stars Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, opened up about the forthcoming season during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Hess explained that the decision to bring the show down from 10 to eight episodes was not their call but does not elaborate on why the decision was made or how it may have impacted the show.

The team has their sights set on the future, with part of the process for Season 3 already underway. HBO has yet to greenlight the Targaryen-cenetered show for a third season, but that isn’t stopping Hess and Condal from prepping for all possibilities. The showrunner says they are deep into writing Season 3 should HBO want more House of the Dragon.

With Season 2 set to arrive next month, we shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out if the series will continue. Condal said they are planning far in advance in order to, hopefully, release seasons every other year. Without the preparation, such a schedule would not be possible.

Elsewhere in the interview, D’Arcy, who plays Rhaenyra Targaryen, and Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower, spoke about the process of creating Season 2 as opposed to Season 1. Where the first 10-episode run saw actors rotated out as storyline time skips moved the plot along, the next eight episodes will see both stars sticking around.

D’Arcy says their work on four episodes in Season 1 was “lovely,” adding, “Do a bit of work, a few weeks off, it’s perfect.” They say the latest season, however, was “exhausting, but also nice.” Cooke offered a more colorful description:

"I need to implement some way of getting through season 3, if there's a season 3, to really harness as much energy as possible. It is a behemoth."

“Oh my God, by the end of Season 2, I was a f---ing shell of myself. I was a husk. I could not form a sentence. I was so tired. I need to implement some way of getting through Season 3, if there's a Season 3, to really harness as much energy as possible. It is a behemoth."

House of the Dragon has a lot of ground to cover following the cliffhanger ending audiences witnessed when Season 1 concluded in 2022. While fans speculate about the potential inclusion of Winterfell’s Sara Snow, Hess reminds viewers that D’Arcy and Cooke remain the focus of the Fire and Blood adaptation heading into Season 2. She adds that audiences should “expect very little” when it comes to that character.

“Our POV is the Targaryens, and our POV is split between King's Landing, Dragonstone, and then when Daemon goes to Harrenhal. We just don't have the eyes to really be everywhere at the same time."

Excitement for more House of the Dragon is at an all-time high after HBO released the series’ newest trailer earlier today. The two-and-a-half-minute trailer is packed with action in a Westeros that is on the verge of war as the conflict between Alicent and Rhaenyra, which was also set up in previous trailers, is on the verge of boiling over.

House of the Dragon Season 2 premieres June 16. For more on the show ahead of its release from HBO, you can read our 9/10 review, where we said, “After 10 episodes, House Of The Dragon has officially emerged as a worthy successor to Game Of Thrones.”

Last of Us Season 2 Set Photos Emerge Showing Dina, One Important Location, and More

14 mai 2024 à 19:32

Spoiler Warning: This article contains potential spoilers for The Last of Us Season 2!

A fresh batch of images from the set of HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 has emerged, revealing sneak peeks at a grown-up Ellie, Dina, and a city that has seen better days.

Images from the post-apocalyptic adaptation’s second season began to appear across social media over the weekend. The pictures don’t reveal too much about the show’s plot but do offer first looks at Bella Ramsey’s return as Ellie and Isabela Maerced’s debut as Dina.

Reddit user miss-sarah captured a few more shots, including first looks at a rifle-wielding Ellie and perhaps most importantly, what seems to be her trusty horse companion, Shimmer.

The Last of Us Season 2 is currently shooting in Vancouver. X user Cristina Barper shared some environmental shots from the production, too, revealing overgrown city streets and a first look at Weston’s Pharmacy, an in-game store that’s appeared a number of times throughout the video game series, including a Seattle chapter of The Last of Us Part 2.

— Cristina Barper (@CristinaBarper) May 11, 2024

Like Season 1 of HBO’s The Last of Us series, Season 2 is confirmed to adapt the events of game developer Naughty Dog’s work, this time following its sequel, The Last of Us Part 2. That means there are at least a few events that longtime fans will be keeping their eyes out for. Some highlights from the video game follow-up include appearances from major players like Abby and Dina, long treks through weathered Seattle streets, and of course, the death of original protagonist, Joel Miller.

Although Joel’s fate could stray from what was seen in the source material, the cast lineup suggests showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann plan to stick relatively close to the events of The Last of Us Part 2. However, Mazin has teased that, like Season 1, some moments will be “radically” different from the original story, while some moments will remain the same. IGN also confirmed that Joel actor Pedro Pascal still had some shooting to do as of March 26, 2024.

We though The Last of Us Season 1 set a high bar for video-game-to-TV-show adaptations, awarding it a 9/10 in our review. At the time, we said, “HBO's The Last of Us is a stunning adaptation that should thrill newcomers and enrich those already familiar with Joel and Ellie's journey alike.”

Expect to see The Last of Us Season 2 premiere sometime in 2025. For more on how Season 2 will bring The Last of Us Part 2 to TV screens, you can read up on our predictions here.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith Renewed for Season 2 at Amazon Prime Video

14 mai 2024 à 15:10

Amazon Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith is returning for Season 2.

The streamer shared first details about the series’ renewal today, setting a course to bring Donald Glover (Atlanta, Swarm) and Maya Erskine’s (PEN15) spy show back for more following its debut in February. Story details and a release date were not revealed, but Variety reports Glover and Erskine are not expected to return.

“We are excited to announce that a second season of our groundbreaking spy series, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, is in the works for our global Prime Video customers,” Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke said in a statement. “The success of the first season, with its incredibly modern, sexy reinvention of the original film, is a testament to the brilliant creators Donald Glover and Francesa Sloane. We are proud to bring you another season filled with unforgettable journeys and new adventures.”

Amazon says that Mr. and Mrs. Smith Season 1 managed to land as a top five series debut on Prime Video. Its eight-episode run follows John and Jane Smith, two spies leading exciting lives that test their bond as partners and secret agents.

This series reimagining of the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie was co-created by Glover and Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo). Sloane returns as showrunner for Season 2.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith proved popular on Prime Video, and we enjoyed it, too. In IGN's 9/10 review of Season 1, we said: “Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a great spy show and an even better relationship comedy.” For more, you can check out some of the other biggest TV shows coming in 2024.

Spider-Man Noir Show Starring Nicolas Cage Officially Ordered to Series at Prime Video and MGM+

14 mai 2024 à 14:00

It's official: the live-action Spider-Man Noir series is a go at Prime Video and MGM+, and Nicolas Cage is set to star.

MGM+ and Prime Video announced today that they've ordered the show, simply titled Noir, to series, with Cage (who voiced the titular character in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) starring. The first two episodes will be directed and executive produced by Emmy Award winner Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve), with Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher, Shantaram) tapped as co-showrunners and executive producers.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Amy Pascal helped develop the series with Uziel and Lightfoot and are also attached as executive producers.

“Noir tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York,” an official description says, “who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”

A release date for Noir has not been revealed. The show’s domestic premiere will see it first come to MGM+’s linear channel, then globally on Prime Video.

We first learned about Amazon’s plans for a Spider-Man Noir spinoff in early 2023. Cage also went on to tease that he was in talks to potentially join the spinoff earlier this year. We now know that he’s officially set to star in Noir, though further details on his role have yet to be revealed.

“Expanding the Marvel universe with Noir is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honored to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers,” Vernon Sanders Amazon MGM Studios head of television Vernon Sanders said in a statement. “The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way.”

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character,” Sony Pictures Television Studios President Katherine Pope said. “Along with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn't ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.”

It was previously reported that the new show will take place in its own 1930s universe that doesn't follow Peter Parker as the main character. It's part of a multi-series deal between Prime Video and Sony that will eventually begin with a Silk: Spider Society show. In March, it was reported that the project's writers room had been paused.

Doom Heavily Rumored for Xbox June Showcase Amid Bethesda Trademark and Other Hints

Rumors that a new Doom game is on the horizon are heating up thanks in part to a new trademark filing (via Eurogamer).

The pending U.S. trademark filed by Microsoft’s ZeniMax Media is for a project called “IDKFA.” Longtime fans of developer id Software will recognize the string of letters as a famous cheat code for the original Doom that grants players access to all in-game weapons and keys with full ammo and armor.

To be clear, it’s possible the trademark isn’t related to a new Doom game, but there are a few reasons to hold out hope that a fresh installment may soon be announced. Microsoft has already revealed plans to hold its major games showcase on June 9, meaning we’ll learn more about upcoming Xbox games in only a few weeks.

Leaked court documents from last year also mentioned a mysterious title known as Doom: Year Zero, though details on what this project could be have yet to be revealed. The Verge’s Tom Warren has also repeatedly teased that a Doom announcement could arrive during the upcoming June showcase. Eurogamer says it has heard similar information.

The last mainline Doom entry arrived in March 2020 with Doom Eternal, which went on to receive two expansions by March 2021. While Microsoft has recently moved to shut down Bethesda’s Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin, id Software has remained quiet when it comes to how it might continue its classic FPS franchise.

If a new Doom game is going to be revealed soon, there’s no telling what shape it will take or if it will keep the Doom: Year Zero name that leaked in 2023. Until Microsoft has more to reveal, it’s probably best to take all rumors with a grain of salt.

While we wait to see what id Software is cooking up, you can read our 9/10 Doom Eternal review, where we said “Whether you're a new Doom fan or a veteran one, Doom Eternal is bound to delight & entertain you. It's gloriously fun.”

Super Mario 64 Player Finally Found a Way to Open That 'Unopenable' Cabin Door Without Cheats

13 mai 2024 à 22:24

Super Mario 64 players have opened a door that was previously believed to be unopenable, and they did it without cheating.

Detailed by Pannenkoek2012 on YouTube, Discord user Alexpalix1 was able to access the cabin door at the base of Cool, Cool Mountain by using a very specific string of moves and an upset mother penguin (via Tom’s Hardware). Players will likely recognize the location as the same spot where many have dropped a young penguin off of the mountain’s cliff in the Nintendo 64 classic.

The cabin set just to the side of the penguin nest is where you can find Super Mario 64’s unopenable door. It usually serves as an exit for Cool, Cool Mountain’s first stage, Slip Slidin’ Away, awarding players with a Star after they complete the slide and walk through the door. However, Mario is unable to walk back through from the outside, as this half of the door is uniquely missing a doorknob and is blocked by an invisible wall. Anyone who’s played Super Mario 64 has probably tried to walk through the door even if they don’t remember doing it, and now, after 28 years, a solution is here.

Pennenkoek2012’s video walks players through the struggles presented by the legendary door and how Alexpalix1 managed to bypass them. While players have been able to use the mother penguin to make Mario clip through the invisible wall and near the door, they’ve never been able to actually use the door itself to enter the cabin.

Alexpalix1’s new method still guides the penguin up against the cabin, while backflipping in between the blue bird and the building just as others have done before. What they change, though, is Mario’s animation just as he comes into contact with the door’s hitbox. There’s no floor on the other side of the invisible wall that blocks the entrance, and unfortunately for our plumber friend, he needs to be walking when opening a door.

Alexpalix1 tricks the game by turning Mario around just before he falls, allowing him to briefly walk in midair long enough to use the door. The player can levitate for one frame when triggering Mario’s turn-around animation, so even though Mario continues to fall through the floor, the door opens and sends Mario back inside the cabin. Voila!

Players have finally solved a mystery they were never intended to solve after nearly 30 years of work. Unfortunately, it looks like there isn’t really a good reason for anyone to try and replicate Alexpalix1’s strategy. Entering the cabin from the outside does not benefit the player in any way other than providing an alternate entrance to the bottom of the ice slide. As Pannenkoek2012 notes, the doesn’t seem to have any use as a speed-running strategy either, as it’s still quite a bit slower than simply taking the slide down from the top.

Elden Ring Fans Already Have Theories About This Newly Revealed Bloodborne-Like Monster

13 mai 2024 à 20:59

Elden Ring developer FromSoftware has unveiled a new Bloodborne-like enemy that is set to appear in next month’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, and fans are already talking about how it will terrorize fellow Tarnished.

The studio pulled back the curtain on its latest nightmare on X/Twitter today. An image of the currently unnamed creature reveals a cloaked, cane-wielding being with a glowing head. The Bloodborne comparisons come from its tentacle-like face, giving the enemy an almost Lovecraftian flair.

The abandoned and tragic who forage beneath the umbra pray for the embrace of a new master.

“The abandoned and tragic who forage beneath the umbra pray for the embrace of a new master,” FromSoftware’s post says.

Fans were quick to compare the creature to Bloodborne enemies like Winter Lanterns and Garden of Eyes, which both feature large, eye-covered heads and cloaked torsos. Even the image’s grim setting calls back to FromSoftware’s PlayStation 4 exclusive game, signaling to Elden Ring players that Shadow of the Erdtree will, of course, provide yet another challenging and gruesome experience.

I’d say they look more like the garden of eyes. pic.twitter.com/ozSQ9OraPd

While it’s nice to see an enemy that calls back to Bloodborne, most fans are hoping this new nameless being isn’t quite as tough to deal with as something like the Winter Lanterns. Those enemies notoriously built up an annoying status effect known as Frenzy just by being near the player. There’s also the location that the new enemy resides in, which looks suspiciously swamp-like and may or may not be poisonous.

That thing will spam status effect, i just know it.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree was announced in February and has a PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S release date of June 21, 2024. In typical FromSoftware fashion, we don’t know much about how the DLC will build upon Elden Rings already great foundation. However, you can read some of what we do know here.

For more on Elden Ring, you can read our 10/10 review. We called the open-world action RPG a “masterpiece” upon its release in 2022, saying, “Elden Ring is a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path.”

Red Dead Redemption PC Port May Finally Be Coming, Datamine Suggests

13 mai 2024 à 19:14

Red Dead Redemption may finally be coming to PC if a recent datamine leak is to be believed.

What could be the biggest Red Dead Redemption news in years comes from Rockstar Games expert @TezFunz2 on X/Twitter. They report that the new information, which mentions a PC port for the studio’s classic Western sandbox game, was found in a recent update to Rockstar’s launcher site. The datamined content includes details about both the base Red Dead Redemption experience as well as its zombie-themed Undead Nightmare expansion.

It looks like Rockstar is gearing up to release #RDR1 on PC. pic.twitter.com/2xMmpFIdCk

— Tez2 (@TezFunz2) May 13, 2024

“Journey across the sprawling expanses of the American West and Mexico in Red Dead Redemption, and its zombie-horror compansion, Undead Nightmare now playable on PC,” a datamined screenshot from TezFunz2 says.

Red Dead Redemption originally launched for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. Although Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 ports arrived last year , PC players were left in the dust. If the datamined information turns out to be accurate and Red Dead Redemption comes to PC before the end of 2024, it would mark the first time the title has been officially available on the platform in 14 years.

Rockstar has notoriously dodged PC ports in the past. Grand Theft Auto 5 originally launched for consoles in 2013 and didn’t make the jump to PC until a year later. Red Dead Redemption 2 saw a similar release strategy, as it launched for consoles in 2018 and PC in 2019. The elusive Grand Theft Auto 6 is also currently listed to release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S at first.

Rockstar leaks have been all the rage among fans recently. Just last week, players began to speculate that Grand Theft Auto 6 news may be on the way after a seemingly premature update for the developer’s website revealed screenshot placeholders. However, as with that alleged leak and today’s datamined information, it’s best to keep expectations low until Rockstar has something official to announce.

For more on Rockstar, you can read our original Red Dead Redemption review. At the time, we awarded the title a 9.7/10, saying, “Red Dead Redemption is a must-play game. Rockstar has taken the Western to new heights and created one of the deepest, most fun, and most gorgeous games around.”

Poppy Playtime Is the Latest Horror Video Game to Get the Movie Treatment

10 mai 2024 à 01:54

Game developer Mob Entertainment is partnering with Legendary Entertainment to create a movie based on its toy factory horror hit, Poppy Playtime.

Legendary is developing the video game-to-movie adaptation with producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford from Angry Films. Details on its plot and cast have yet to be revealed. No release date has been confirmed.

Poppy Playtime centers around Playtime Co., a once-great toy manufacturer that fell from grace after everyone inside its factory disappeared. Players take control of a former employee who finds themselves sucked back to the factory long after the disappearances, and it doesn’t take long for them to discover that the toys seem to be more playful this time around.

Poppy Playtime released its free-to-play first chapter in 2021, with two more chapters adding to the story in 2022 and 2024. Mob says that its horror-puzzle gameplay, lore, and twists have managed to draw in more than 40 million players across PC, mobile, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation devices as well as on Roblox. It’s become so popular that some characters, like Huggy Wuggy and the Smiling Critters, have popped up across retailers in the form of collectible figures, plush toys, and costumes.

“When we first started this journey, we followed our passion and created a series of games and brands with the purpose of inspiring and entertaining. We’ve always dreamed big and are thrilled to have created something that has captured the hearts of tens of millions around the world,” Mob Co-founders Zach Belanger, CEO and Seth Belanger, CCO said in a joint statement. “This movie deal is a great logical next step in the growth of our transmedia entertainment company.”

Poppy Playtime falls in line with other recent adaptations that have brought gaming horror IP to the world of movies. Five Nights at Freddy’s is the obvious example, as Blumhouse’s live-action hit managed to jump scare audiences with tremendous success when it premiered last year and even managed to lock down plans for a sequel. An Until Dawn film is also on the way, as is a Dredge movie. We learned in January that a Martha Is Dead adaptation is on the way, too.

The Fantastic Four Is Bringing John Malkovich Into the MCU

9 mai 2024 à 22:29

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) already star-studded The Fantastic Four movie is adding another big name to its cast: John Malkovich.

That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, which says that the experienced actor has joined the film ahead of its release next year. Details on how he will fit into the superhero movie are being kept under wraps for now.

Malkovich has appeared in prominent movie roles since the ‘80s, and made a name for himself with projects like Of Mice and Men in 1992 and Being John Malkovich in 1999. More recently, the star was featured in Space Force, Bird Box, Burn After Reading, and Deepwater Horizon. The actor almost saw his Marvel debut with Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 before that film was eventually shelved.

Fantastic Four has been one of the most hotly anticipated MCU films since Marvel Studios announced it back in 2020. The supergroup, which has appeared in other live-action incarnations in the past, has never gotten their own standalone MCU entry, so Marvel has assembled a stellar crew to help introduce them.

The main cast of heroes includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm. We also learned that Ozark star Julia Garner will appear as the Silver Surfer with Paul Walter Hauser also attached in a mystery role, and with Malkovich now onboard, too, it’s looking like Fantastic Four is primed to deliver a stacked list of names. This includes the fact that the movie is directed by WandaVision and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia alum Matt Shakman.

Fantastic Four comes to theaters on July 25, 2025. For more, be sure to check out the latest Deadpool and Wolverine news ahead of its premiere in a few months. Then, you can read up on Marvel Studios’ boss Kevin Feige’s thoughts on the state of the MCU, and what Disney is doing to ensure the franchise has a strong future.

Ted Renewed for a Second Season on Peacock

9 mai 2024 à 19:29

Peacock and Seth MacFarlane’s raunchy comedy spinoff series, Ted, is returning for Season 2.

The news was announced on the official Peacock X/Twitter account today, as well as a subsequent press release. Details on how Ted Season 2 will continue the story have yet to be revealed, and no release date has been confirmed.

Apparently @WhatTedSaid already ran out of beer money so he's making more episodes.

Season 2 of #ted is coming to Peacock. pic.twitter.com/vvd6Pc7oRF

— Peacock (@peacock) May 9, 2024

Despite originally being referred to as an "event series," it’s not a total shock to see Ted Season 2 being stitched together. Earlier this year, it was revealed that the TV show spinoff managed to be deliver Peacock’s biggest opening weekend for an original series ever. NBCUniversal confirmed the news with IGN, and although no exact numbers were revealed, it meant that Ted managed to surpass other popular offerings like Poker Face, Twisted Metal, Mrs. Davis, and Bel-Air. In today's announcement, Peacock also calls Season 1 its "most-watched original title to date" period.

The streaming platform also notes that, according to Nielsen, the show was the top original streaming comedy in the U.S. for more than two months upon its release last January.

Ted the series is a ‘90s-set prequel to MacFarlane’s original 2012 movie as well as its 2015 sequel. It follows Ted, a sentient stuffed bear played by MacFarlane, and his high school friend John Bennett, played by Max Burkholder. John, a younger version of the same character played by Mark Wahlberg in the movies, and his potty-mouthed teddy bear star alongside Susan Bennett (Alanna Ubach), Matty Bennett (Scott Grimes), Blaire Bennett (Giorgia Whigham). It’s unclear who will return for Season 2, but we can probably bet that Ted, at least, is back.

We thought Ted Season 1’s seven-episode run was “Okay.” In our 6/10 review, we said, “Ted is a welcome return for everyone’s favorite trash-talking teddy bear, even if he doesn’t have much new to say.” For more, you can read up on what we think the show has to say about how audiences consume R-rated comedies.
