Caleb Ewan, at his peak one of Australian cycling’s greatest talents, has stunned the sport by announcing his immediate retirement.

Ewan delivered his bombshell decision on social media, saying events of the last two years – especially around his messy exit from top Australian team Jayco AlUla – have “taken a significant toll on my relationship with the sport”.

Australian surfers are the big winners in a revamped 2026 World Surf League calendar that has axed the divisive finals day to decide the world champions.

The Pipe Pro at Pipeline in Hawaii will return as the men’s finale for the first time since 2019, while it will be the season-ending women’s event for the first time.

India may have fallen for their 14-year-old cricket hero, but young Vaibhav Suryavanshi just looked like any dejected schoolboy might after he crashed straight back down to earth in Jaipur.

In front of the Rajasthan Royals fans and with the nation’s billion eyes upon him on Thursday after his head-turning century just three days earlier, Suryavanshi strode to the crease to lead the chase of Mumbai Indians’ 217-2, dreaming of his next conjuring act.
