Mexican navy ship crashes into Brooklyn Bridge leaving two people dead

Three of the ship’s masts could be seen snapping and partially collapsing after they brushed the bridge in New York City

A Mexican navy sailing ship hit the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday during a promotional tour in New York City, the top of its mast brushing the iconic span as it sailed through the East River.

New York City mayor Eric Adams said two people were killed in the incident – another 19 people were injured, including two critically. There were 277 people aboard the ship – the Cuauhtémoc – when it lost power and struck the bridge, Adams said.

Storms kill at least 25 across US including 18 in ‘mass casualty event’ in Kentucky

Storms also kill seven in Missouri, spawn tornadoes in Wisconsin and bring a heatwave to Texas

Storm systems sweeping across the midwestern US have left more than 25 dead in Missouri and Kentucky.

Kentucky’s governor, Andy Beshear, said at a briefing in London, Kentucky, that “at least 18” of the deaths were in his state. At least nine of those were reported after a tornado sparked what authorities called a mass casualty event in south-eastern Kentucky.

Former West Coast player Adam Selwood dies months after twin brother’s death

The West Coast premiership star Adam Selwood has been remembered as the ultimate teammate with an infectious personality, after his death aged 41.

Selwood’s death in Perth on Saturday came three months after his identical twin and fellow former AFL player Troy Selwood died.

A shooting inside a Las Vegas athletic club has killed two people including the suspect with at least four injured. Officials say that gunfire erupted Friday afternoon inside the gym and three people who were injured were transported to local hospitals, with one in critical condition. A spokesperson with the police department said in a press conference there is no longer a threat to the public.

Latest twist in a contest between iPhone maker and Epic Games over payments for hit game on Apple devices

Epic Games says Fortnite is now unavailable on iPhones and iPads globally because Apple blocked a bid to release the popular video game in the App Store in the US and Europe.

“Apple has blocked our Fortnite submission so we cannot release to the US App Store or to the Epic Games Store for iOS in the European Union,” the X account for Fortnite posted early Friday – claiming that Apple’s move would now prevent the game’s iOS availability around the world.
