T2 Linux 26.3

T2 Linux SDE is an independently-developed open-source system development environment (or distribution build kit). It enables the creation of custom distributions with bleeding-edge technology. Currently, the Linux kernel is used, but the project plans an expansion to Hurd, OpenDarwin and OpenBSD kernels too. T2 started as a community driven fork from the ROCK Linux Project with the aim to create a decentralised development and a clean framework for spin-off projects and customised distributions.

Linux Mint shows off its new lock screen/screensaver

Linux Mint redesigned Lock Screen.Linux Mint is working on a redesigned screensaver and lock screen for the Cinnamon desktop. Based on our first look, it’s a solid improvement. If the word “screensaver” conjures flying star fields or photo slideshows, that’s fair, but in Cinnamon it also acts as the ‘screen locker’. In 2026, ‘saving’ the screen is less of a concern than ‘locking’ it, but many users enjoy seeing a pretty ‘idle’ display. Cinnamon’s new lock screen will, based on designs shared by Linux Mint, convey more information without you needing to unlock. Battery level, time and date, media player controls and unread notifications […]

ML4W 2.11.1

ML4W OS is an Arch Linux-based distribution featuring a heavily customised Hyprland tiling compositor. The project specialises primarily in creating advanced configuration for Hyprland, so called "dotfiles", which are available for installation on several other Arch-based distributions, as well as Fedora and openSUSE. However, the live ML4W OS ISO image is a standalone, full-featured Linux distribution with all Hyprland configuration files, applications, icons, themes and wallpapers included. It can be installed to a hard disk using a custom text-mode system installer. The project also provides extensive documentation about setting up and configuring Hyprland.

Ubuntu Still Figuring Out A Plan For Dealing With California's Digital Age Assurance Act

The talk this week among open-source projects from Linux distributions to app stores like Flathub is how to deal with California's latest insanity: the Digital Age Assurance Act. California's AB 1043 state law is mandating that operating systems -- Linux included -- collect age information during account setup and exposing that age to eligible apps beginning on 1 January 2027. That leaves much uncertainty for Linux distributions and other repositories/stores and more. Canonical issued a statement today to clarify that they basically don't have a solution to announce yet...
