Threads reaches 175 million active users; celebrates first anniversary with custom icons

It’s been almost a year since Threads, Meta’s microblogging platform, became available to the public. Over the last 12 months, Threads has achieved some major milestones, such as hitting 100 million registered users in its first five days. A year later, Threads now has 175 million monthly active users, and the app is getting custom icons as part of its first anniversary celebrations.

ChatGPT app for macOS raises privacy concerns for storing conversations in plain text [U: Fixed]

OpenAI recently launched an official ChatGPT app for macOS, which is also the first ChatGPT app for any desktop platform. While having an app makes the process of talking to the chatbot more seamless, some users have raised privacy concerns. That’s because the app stores all conversations in plain text, which can expose sensitive user data.

Now is the time for a new gaming-focused ‘Apple TV Pro’ with the M4 chip

visionOS App Store to allow alternative payment options for users in the EU

The European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) antitrust legislation came into effect earlier this year and has already forced Apple to make some deep changes to the App Store, including allowing developers to offer alternative payment options in their apps. As Apple Vision Pro is coming to Europe, Apple has now confirmed that alternative payment options will also be available on the visionOS App Store.

Report shows that AAA games for iPhone and iPad aren’t exactly a hit with users

Since the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro with A17 Pro, Apple’s first chip with hardware-accelerated ray-tracing, Apple has been trying to convince major game developers to bring their titles to iOS. AAA Games like Resident Evil Village and Assassin’s Creed Mirage are now available on the App Store, but a new report shows that they’re not exactly a hit with iPhone and iPad users.

‘Juno’ YouTube app for Apple Vision Pro gets major update with 360-degree video support

Apple Vision Pro still lacks an official YouTube app, and while Google has already confirmed its plans to build a visionOS app, users still have to rely on Safari to watch online videos on Apple’s $3,500 headset. Luckily, Juno – a third-party app – brings a better YouTube experience to Vision Pro users. Now the app has been updated with many new features, including 360-degree video support.

Evidence of Apple’s Private Cloud Compute for AI first surfaced in iOS 16.4

9to5Mac last year found evidence of a new “ComputeModule” device class hidden in the iOS 16.4 beta SDK. At the time, we speculated that it could be either a Raspberry Pi type device. It turns out that Apple’s recently announced Private Cloud Compute (PCC) for processing Apple Intelligence data in the cloud is the ComputeModule we reported on last year.
