Just seven months after hitting a new peak, Valve's PC gaming platform has done it again. Steam has set a new record for concurrent users, with over 41 million players logged in at the same time this past Sunday, October 12th.

According to SteamDB, while some might be quick to attribute the new record to the ongoing Steam Next Fest, that event didn't kick off until the following day (although some demos were available before its official start). Instead, the massive influx of players can be credited mainly to the hugely successful launch of EA's Battlefield 6, which has clearly brought a massive number of gamers to the platform (peaking at around 650K CCU on Sunday).

Of course, Battlefield 6 didn't achieve this milestone on its own. While the new shooter was a major contributor, sitting comfortably in the top four most-played games, it was the combination of this huge new release with Steam's evergreen titans that pushed the platform over the top. As always, Valve's own titles were a dominant force, with Counter-Strike 2 leading the charge with a peak of over 1.5 million players, followed by DOTA 2 and the ever-popular PUBG: Battlegrounds.

Perhaps the biggest surprise in the top charts, however, is the performance of the new Delta Force. Despite a mixed reception from critics and players on Steam, the game has defied expectations, landing in the top five most-played games over the weekend. The rest of the charts were filled with the usual popular titles, including Apex Legends, Rust, and Grand Theft Auto V, as well as the usual non-game mainstays like Wallpaper Engine and the meme-game Banana.

Late last year, a rumour popped up claiming that Sony and Apple were planning to partner up, making its PlayStation VR2 controllers available to purchase separately while adding support for the iPhone maker’s Apple Vision Pro VR headset. Finally, in alignment with the announcement of the latest generation M5 Vision Pro, Sony’s PSVR2 Sense controllers are officially being decoupled from the headset itself.

As part of the official announcement for Apple’s latest Vision Pro headset, the tech giant confirmed last year’s rumours which claimed that Sony’s PSVR2 Sense controllers would be updated to support Apple’s VR efforts.

Set to be available to buy from the 11th of November, both previous and current-gen Vision Pro users will soon be able to purchase and connect Sony’s Sense controllers for easier navigation and improved video game support.

Unfortunately it appears as though Apple’s pricing strategies have impacted Sony’s senses, with the Sense controllers coming in at the costly price of $249.95 for a single pair.

For context, the PSVR2 headset (which includes the Sense controllers and Horizon Call of the Mountain) retails for $399.99, making the value proposition for the controllers alone somewhat jarring.

All that said, PSVR2’s Sense controllers do feature a ton of tech within them, including adaptive triggers; advanced haptics and more – and so they do represent the best VR controllers available right now.

Still, paying nearly 2/3rds the value of PSVR2 for the controllers alone feels like a bit too much.

One of 2024’s most celebrated games was 1000xRESIST – a “thrilling sci-fi adventure” set 1000 years after humanity was almost entirely wiped out. Unfortunately for some, the indie title was exclusive to PC and the Nintendo Switch. Finally however, the game has now been officially announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass.

Making the official announcement, publisher Fellow Traveller confirmed that the highly-praised 1000xRESIST is finally coming to PlayStation and Xbox next month – officially arriving on the 4th of November.

For the uninitiated, 1000xRESIST is viewed by many as one of the best indie games of last year, amassing a MetaCritic score of 86 while seeing Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam.

Set 1000 years after humanity was almost entirely wiped out, the game offers a story-focused adventure which for some compares to the works of auteurs such as Hideo Kojima and Yoko Taro.

Since its release, the game has gone on to be nominated for multiple different awards, including the Golden Joysticks for ‘Best Storytelling’; the DICE awards for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Story’ and ‘Adventure Game of the Year’ – among others.

Given the game’s undeniable success on the PC and Switch platforms, it is exciting to see 1000xRESIST finally coming to the rest of the consoles in just a few weeks’ time.

Just as the open-source drivers for Intel's Xe3 graphics devices are reaching maturity, the company's Linux development team is already gearing up for the next generation. The first batch of patches to enable the Xe3P graphics architecture has been fired off, marking the beginning of the long road to supporting Intel's upcoming GPUs on Linux.

With the current focus on finalising Xe3 support for Panther Lake, Intel's open-source graphics programmers are now shifting their attention to the future. A set of 22 patches (via Phoronix) was sent out to the dri-devel mailing list this week, laying the foundational framework for the Xe3P architecture within the Linux kernel driver.

For now, the enablement is purely in the kernel space, which handles the low-level communication with the hardware. The user-space drivers, which are part of the Mesa 3D graphics stack (specifically the Iris Gallium3D driver for OpenGL and the ANV driver for Vulkan), have not yet received any Xe3P-related code. Given the timing, it's likely that this preliminary code will land in the Linux v6.19 kernel, which is on track to be the first stable kernel release of 2026. However, it will take several more kernel and Mesa release cycles before we have full support for Xe3P and all its features are in place.

We expect to see the Xe3P GPU architecture featured in the consumer segment, powering the likes of Nova Lake-S processors and Arc Celestial discrete graphics. As for data centres, Intel has already confirmed that the recently announced Crescent Island will be based on Xe3P.

Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish studio behind Control and Alan Wake, has issued a profit warning after its multiplayer spin‑off FBC: Firebreak failed to achieve expected sales, despite a major post‑launch update.

The company announced that it will recognize a €14.9 million non‑cash impairment, representing the majority of the game’s development and publishing costs. While this impairment does not affect Remedy’s cash position, it significantly impacts its 2025 financial outlook. The studio now expects its operating profit (EBIT) for the year to be negative and below 2024 levels, reversing earlier guidance that had predicted growth.

As spotted by Push Square, FBC: Firebreak had initially drawn in over a million players thanks to its inclusion on subscription services like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass. However, player numbers quickly dropped off. Remedy attempted to turn things around with a major update, titled Breakpoint, in September. This update introduced new missions and crucially, quality-of-life improvements. This did improve player metrics according to Remedy, but it has not significantly changed the game's sales trajectory.

While Remedy may indeed lose money this year, the studio does have several promising projects on the way. Right now, the studio is deep into development on Control 2, and it continues to work on the Max Payne remakes in collaboration with Rockstar Games.

There was a distinct lack of buzz around FBC Firebreak game prior to launch and the release didn't do anything to change that.

Nintendo has suffered a few major cyberattacks before, leading to various leaks. Now, a hacking group has claimed responsibility for a recent attack on Nintendo, although the company has yet to confirm if a breach took place. 

The group known as Crimson Collective, which gained notoriety after a recent attack on Red Hat, has claimed that it has managed to breach Nintendo systems and obtain sensitive data.

In a proof screenshot shared by Hackmanac, Crimson Collective claims to have a number of folders containing private Nintendo documents, including production assets.

As pointed out by Tom's Hardware, Nintendo has yet to publicly acknowledge the claim, nor have any of the files leaked. If any customer data was impacted, then Nintendo will have to publicly acknowledge the attack and provide users with steps to secure their accounts.

We already knew that Battlefield 6 was doing well, thanks to the game's record high Steam concurrent player numbers. Now, analysts predict that the game sold as much as seven million copies during its first five days on the market. 

As cited by GI.biz, Alinea Analytics estimates that Battlefield 6 sold 7 million units during its first five days on the market, grossing $350 million in revenue. They also estimate that roughly half of the current player base is on PC.

If the figures are accurate, then Battlefield 6 will rank highly as one of the fastest-selling games of the year, beating out the likes of Monster Hunter Wilds and Borderlands 4.

EA will look to continue to grow Battlefield 6 with the launch of a dedicated Battle Royale mode later this month. On top of that, the game will continue to receive seasonal content, including new maps, weapons, game modes and other crucial updates.
