PC is the lead development platform for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3

The director behind Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 has been discussing the game in interviews for quite a few months now. In his latest, he confirms plans to develop the third-game as a multiplatform title from the jump, adding that PC is technically the lead platform this time.

For the first two titles in the series, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, PlayStation consoles were the lead development platform, as each game launched as a timed exclusive for Sony's platform. With Part 3, this will no longer be the case, so Part 3 is already being made with PC, Xbox and the Switch 2 in mind.

In an interview with Automaton, Naoki Hamaguchi said that it is “correct” to view PC as the lead platform for Final Fantasy Remake Part 3, adding that the development team creates assets for the ‘highest possible' spec first, before scaling things down to optimise for platforms like the Switch 2 or Xbox Series S, where memory and GPU resources are a bit more limited.

With that in mind, Hamaguchi states that there will be no impact on the quality of the launch version of the new game, as it focuses on what can be achieved at the high-end first, before scaling down to mid-range systems like the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Then it does additional optimisation work to get the games running on lower-spec systems like the Steam Deck, Switch 2 and Xbox Series S.

Final Fantasy Remake Part 3 doesn't have a release date yet but all signs are currently pointing to a 2027 launch, and perhaps an initial reveal of the game later this year. In the meantime, Square Enix is bringing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to more platforms, including the Switch 2 and Xbox in June.

KitGuru Says: Are you looking forward to the finale for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy?

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight removes 32GB RAM recommendation

TT Games caught some heat a couple of weeks ago when it revealed the PC system requirements for its new Lego Batman game. At the time, the recommended requirements called on users to have as much as 32GB of RAM in their, which sounds pretty ridiculous for a Lego game. Fortunately, the PC system requirements have since been revised.

In a new statement shared on the game's Steam Community page, TT Games confirms that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight now has reduced PC system requirements. The specs are still higher than what was necessary to run 2022's LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, but the insane 32GB RAM recommendation has indeed been fixed.

The revised PC system requirements for the new LEGO Batman game are as follows –

Minimum:
OS: Windows 11
Processor: Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
Memory: 16GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070, 8GB or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, 8GB or INTEL Arc A770, 16GB
Storage: 50GB available space

Recommended:
OS: Windows 11
Processor: Intel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
Memory: 16GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, 10GB or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, 16GB

Given that the memory chip market is currently facing massive shortages and price hikes, impacting both the gaming PC market and console markets alike, software developers are really going to have to hone-in on optimisation, as very few will be able to upgrade their systems over the next couple of years. Part of that will have to include creating games that work well on limited memory budgets.

KitGuru Says: Game developers have worked magic with limited memory resources in the past but ever since the Xbox One era and beyond, all of that seems to have been thrown out of the window. Now with RAM no longer being a plentiful resource, the industry will have to shift back and shake the mindset that consumers have plenty of spare memory to work with.

Report claims PlayStation 6 to be delayed and Switch 2 may see price hike due to chip shortage

In recent weeks, we've heard from one analyst that Sony is pushing back its next-gen PlayStation console plans due to the on-going RAM shortage. We have also heard from Nintendo's CEO about the possibility of a Switch 2 price hike due to rising component costs. Now, a new report claims that both of these scenarios are indeed due to take place.

According to Bloomberg, Sony is indeed considering delaying the launch of the PlayStation 6 from its apparently planned 2027 launch to 2028 or 2029. This is due to a global memory shortage, with AI corporations buying up nearly all available supply, leaving little left over for consumer electronics.

On top of that, the same report also claims that Nintendo is also contemplating a Switch 2 price hike, due to the rising cost of components like memory. Previously during a recent earnings call, Nintendo's CEO said that there were ‘no immediate plans' to raise the Switch 2 price but that it would have to reconsider that should the component market continue to face price increases.

Meanwhile, it appears that Microsoft is apparently still intending to release its next-generation Xbox in 2027, a move that seems ill-advised at this stage. The component market is impacting many hardware launches this year already, with even Valve delaying the Steam Machine by a number of months while it assesses the market.

KitGuru Says: 2026 is not a great time to be a PC hardware enthusiast, but the wider gaming market is also suffering.

Nintendo continues to take down Switch emulator projects

Nintendo is continuing to issue DMCA takedown notices to a growing number of Switch emulator projects. While Nintendo has moved on to its next-generation Switch 2 at this stage, support for the original Switch is still continuing due to its large user-base, with new first-party and third-party titles still coming to the older console in 2026.

Nintendo began its fight against Switch emulators back in 2024, when it took down prolific projects like Yuzu and Ryujinx. However, many still had access to the files for these emulators and as a result, numerous groups began providing forks, and releasing newly-named Switch emulators.

With its latest takedown effort, Nintendo is targeting various Switch emulator projects, including the likes of Citron, Eden, Kenji-NX, MeloNX, Pine, Pomelo, Ryubing, Ryujinx, Skyline, Sudachi, Sumi, Suyu and Yuzu.

Previously, Nintendo had limited its efforts to targeting ROM sites offering illegal downloads of games for its platforms, but that tactic didn't really work either, as every time a piracy site would shut down, several more would appear in their place. For a long time, it was believed that emulators existed in a legal ‘grey area' and could not be targeted, but Nintendo is quickly changing that narrative, despite no actual court cases coming to fruition yet. The developers behind the emulator Eden have already spoken out saying they intend to continue development despite Nintendo's DMCA but it still remains to be seen if the other projects will live on.

KitGuru Says: Once a product has reached end-of-life, then emulators can be very useful, as it keeps a platform alive and its games accessible long after the creators have lost interest. However, when a platform is still alive, thriving and selling millions of units a year, it is hard to justify emulators for reasons outside of piracy.

New leak reveals the six games Ubisoft cancelled last month

Ubisoft made the shocking decision to cancel its Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake several weeks ago, alongside a number of other unannounced projects. Now thanks to a new report, we may know exactly which unannounced games were scrapped during the publisher's restructuring.

According to Insider Gaming's sources, aside from the Prince of Persia remake, the cancelled games at Ubisoft last month included Project Aether, Project Pathfinder (formerly Project U), Project Crest, Assassin's Creed Rebellion and Assassin's Creed Singularity.

We will break down a little more about what we already knew of each project based on prior rumours. For starters, Project Pathfinder was originally discovered more than five years ago when it was being worked on under the Project U name. This game was apparently set to be a co-op PvPvE shooter, with a handful of teams taking on hordes of robot enemies and bosses, while also trying to survive other players in the vicinity.

Assassin's Creed Rebellion was one of a handful of free-to-play mobile game attempts from Ubisoft. The game has actually been available from as far back as 2018 but apparently support is now ending this year. The other cancelled Assassin's Creed game, Singularity, was reportedly set to be a new mobile game, one that would also launch on PC.

Project Crest was a mystery game that had not really leaked previously, but apparently it was going to be a World War 2 extraction shooter. From the sounds of it, Ubisoft had multiple projects in the works targeting similar genres, so it is no wonder that some of these got cancelled.

Finally, Project Aether is another game that hadn't really been reported on in prior leaks until after its cancellation. Nothing is really known about this one, but it had apparently started development in 2019, before being rebooted and handed over to another studio. It was cancelled as part of Ubisoft's recent cost-cutting efforts.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Most of these cancellations aren't too surprising. Clearly, the Prince of Persia remake is still the standout and probably the one that hurts fans the most.

You can play Marathon for free later this month ahead of March launch

Bungie's Marathon seems to be garnering some good impressions following the most recent playtests. Last night as part of the State of Play showcase, we got our latest look at the game, which has now been reworked with new assets following an artist dispute last year.

The latest trailer for Marathon includes a mix of cinematic and gameplay footage entirely captured on PC, which is interesting given that Bungie is now a PlayStation studio. Just like Destiny, Marathon will be a fully multiplatform title, landing on PC, PS5 and Xbox consoles, complete with crossplay and cross-save functionality.

Marathon is Bungie's foray into the extraction shooter genre and a number of improvements have been added to the game since last year's playtests. Crucially, proximity chat is one of the new additions made to the game after the delay – a feature that many players had insisted should be present at launch.

For those who aren't sold on Marathon as a premium title yet, there will be a new open playtest taking place across all platforms from February 26th to March 2nd, giving you ample time to download and try the game for free before its launch. If you end up enjoying it, then the final, full game will be available from March 5th, so you won't have to wait long between the playtest ending and the final launch. However, this does also mean that some issues present in the playtest version may also not be fixed in time for the final release.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: I have yet to try Marathon, so I'll give it a go during the upcoming playtest. Are you thinking about picking this game up next month?

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 2 releases this year

For many months now, Metal Gear Solid fans have been left wondering about the status of the Master Collection Vol 2. Last night, Konami finally made its plans clear, with the second Metal Gear Solid Master Collection officially coming out later this year.

The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1 gave fans an easy way to jump back in and play the classic games in the series, including Metal Gear (1987), Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The second Master Collection is quite a bit smaller by comparison.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 2 will include Metal Gear Solid 4: Funs of the Patriots, marking the very first time that this game has been made playable outside of the PlayStation 3 platform. On top of that, Vol 2 buyers will also get Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker.

Prior to this announcement, fans had expected Vol 2 to also include Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zero and Metal Gear Solid 5, even if those more modern titles didn't have any extra graphical touch-ups. With that said, both games are more than ten years old at this point and are very cheap to pick up on most platforms, including Steam.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 2 will launch on the 27th of August.

The original God of War trilogy is getting a remake

Sony had a pretty big surprise announcement in store for fans during last night's State of Play showcase. The original God of War trilogy is making a comeback, remade from the ground up.

While God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok brought the series to new heights through cinematic storytelling, many fans do miss the original hack and slash games in the series. Soon, fans new and old will be able to experience those original games with revamped graphics:

Fans will also be pleased to see that TC Carson, the original voice actor for Kratos, is returning for the remake project, although it is unclear if other characters will retain their original voice actors as well.

While the more recent God of War titles focused on Norse mythology, the original trilogy was entirely set in Greek mythology, with Kratos taking on a series of gods, from Zeus to Poseidon.

Unfortunately, no footage of the remake was shown in the trailer, but the remakes are now in active development, so we will hopefully get a better look at them in the next couple of years.

KitGuru Says: Are you excited to see the original God of War trilogy brought back? For many PC players, this could be their first time ever experiencing the original Kratos story.

Saber Interactive reveals AAA John Wick game with Keanu Reeves

Saber Interactive had one of the biggest announcements during last night's State of Play showcase. The studio is now working on a AAA John Wick game and yes, Keanu Reeves will be reprising his role for it.

The John Wick films have been some of the best and most successful action movies of the past decade. While there has been one indie game utilising the IP, there has yet to be a full-scale AAA game starring our favourite unretired assassin. Saber's game is currently only known as ‘untitled John Wick game', and the trailer is primarily cinematic, although the text claims there is some gameplay footage sprinkled in:

This game is in development for current-generation consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, as well as PC. That indicates that the developers are targeting a launch within the next few years, as there could be new generation console hardware after 2028.

The game will feature an original gameplay narrative set in the John Wick timeline years before the Impossible Task. It will expand on the franchise’s lore during that time with familiar characters fans already know and love, as well as compelling new ones created specifically for this production.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: There is still a lot to learn about this game, including its final title, but if you are a fan of John Wick, this is something to look forward to in the coming years.

IO Interactive drops new story trailer for 007 First Light

Last night during the State of Play showcase, IO Interactive revealed the latest trailer for its next major game – 007 First Light, giving us a new look at the James Bond origin story.

The story trailer sets the stage for a global adventure, as Bond is recruited into MI6 and enters the world of espionage, full of hidden agendas and unseen threats. The trailer offers early glimpses of Bond’s exploits in Iceland, prior to joining the 00 ranks.

Over the course of the early game, Bond discovers an unexpected advocate in M, who recognises his potential as an agent able to take control of desperate situations and complete his objectives. John Greenway, a former 00 agent and the programme’s training instructor, stands in contrast to Bond as a disciplined, by-the-book operative.

Despite their differences, Bond and Greenway are forced to work together to take down a rogue operative, 009. This mission will take players from the quiet Carpathian Mountains to the dangerous black market of Aleph, as well as a number of other key locations.

007 First Light launching on May 27th 2026 for PC and consoles.

New PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium games announced for February 2026

As expected, last night shortly before the State of Play showcase went live, Sony revealed this month's new batch of games for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers. Just as leaks predicted, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the headlining game, but there are many others to look forward to as well.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 launched in 2023, five years after the breakout success of Insomniac's original Spider-Man game and three years after the smaller standalone game, Miles Morales. While this sequel was very well received, it wasn't quite as beloved as the original, in part due to a lot of forced character and perspective switching throughout the campaign. Still, it has some incredible highlight moments and fans of the original will want to play the sequel in preparation for Spider-Man 3.

The full list of titles joining PlayStation Plus Extra this month includes:

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PS5
  • Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown PS5
  • Neva PS5, PS4
  • Season: A Letter to the Future PS5, PS4
  • Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin PS4
  • Monster Hunter Stories PS4
  • Venba PS5
  • Echoes of the End: Enhanced Edition PS5
  • Rugby 25 PS5, PS4

And finally, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers will also get access to one new classic game – Disney Pixar's Wall-E.

Dead Cells creators are now making their own Castlevania game

A couple of years back, Motion Twin and Evil Empire teamed up with Konami to bring Castlevania content to their hit rougelike Dead Cells. Now fast forward to 2026 and the two studios are now collaborating with Konami once again, this time for an official Castlevania game.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is the first new Castlevania game since 2014. The game is set in 1499 Paris, where Trevor Belmont's successor wields the Vampire Killer to take down new supernatural forces.

While the game was announced during Sony's State of Play showcase, it is not a PS5 exclusive and will also be coming to PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse does not yet have a full release date but it is due to come out later this year.

KitGuru Says: Considering the success of the Castlevania Dead Cells DLC, I imagine this game will also do quite well.

Thermal Grizzly launches dedicated software for WireView Pro II

Thermal Grizzly has released the first public software suite for the WireView Pro II, alongside the first official firmware update. Both are optional, but together they enable full PC‑based configuration and data logging, expanding the device’s capabilities beyond the standalone hardware interface.

Software version 1.0.5 provides full operating‑system integration, access to all supported WireView Pro II functions, more precise configuration options than the firmware alone, and power‑ and temperature‑logging with export support, including analysis of 12V‑2×6 current distribution. The software is currently available for Windows, with Linux support planned. It remains optional, as all essential measurements continue to be handled directly on the device’s integrated display.

This first public release follows a beta phase in which several issues were resolved. Users can report problems via Discord, the subreddit, or Thermal Grizzly's website support form.

Thermal Grizzly is also releasing the first firmware update for the WireView Pro II. The update is included in the software package and is flashed to the device via USB. Once installed, the software can be closed and removed. The update is optional and does not affect warranty coverage, but it is recommended for full compatibility with the new software.

Firmware version v03 enables full software control of the device, improves averaging calculations for more stable readings, and adjusts the current‑imbalance alarm thresholds from 30% at 5 A to 40% at 6 A per pin. The alarm now triggers only when a pin exceeds 6 A and the relative difference between minimum and maximum pin current is greater than 40%, reducing unnecessary warnings from minor fluctuations. Flashing the firmware resets all device settings.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: With dedicated software, there will be the opportunity for further enhancements to the WireView Pro II for a long time to come.
