Marvin Ducksch scored twice as Birmingham ended their seven-game winless streak with a 3-2 victory over Championship leaders Coventry.

The former Germany international grabbed a goal in each half as fortunes ebbed and flowed in a derby fixture that delivered drama from the first whistle until stoppage time when visiting defender Bobby Thomas was dismissed. Birmingham led three times but were pegged back twice by Frank Lampard’s side, who have now won just twice in their last eight outings.

Anthony Joshua issues first public update after fatal car crash in Nigeria

  • Boxer posts photo with his mother and three women

  • Two of Joshua’s team members died in the accident

Anthony Joshua has issued his first public update after the car crash in Nigeria that injured him and killed two of his close friends and team members.

Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, also known as Latz, died after the vehicle that they and Joshua were travelling in struck a stationary truck on a major road near Lagos last Monday. Joshua was taken to hospital before being discharged on Wednesday and he has flown back to the UK before the funerals of Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, and Ayodele, one of his trainers.

British and French aircraft attack underground Islamic State weapons store in Syria

Guided bombs used to target tunnels at site near to city of Palmyra in raid intended to ‘eliminate dangerous terrorists’

British and French aircraft have carried out a joint strike on an underground facility in Syria that had been occupied by Islamic State, the UK Ministry of Defence has said.

Guided bombs were used to target access tunnels to the site, in the mountainous region near the ancient city of Palmyra in the centre of the country, on Saturday evening.

‘We rolled over’: Parker angry at Burnley as Rutter and Ayari end Brighton’s lean run

Brighton ended a six-match winless run with a comfortable home victory over second-bottom Burnley.

Georginio Rutter gave Brighton a first-half lead before Yasin Ayari doubled the advantage early in the second period. Loum Tchaouna came close to halving the deficit, but Scott Parker’s struggling side remain six points adrift of Nottingham Forest in 17th after their wait for a league victory stretched to 11 games.

Former Labour MP and defence minister Sir Patrick Duffy dies aged 105

Duffy, believed to be UK’s longest-living former MP, survived a plane crash in Scotland during second world war

The former Labour MP and defence minister Sir Patrick Duffy has died aged 105 after a short illness, a family friend has said.

He died on 2 January and is believed to have been the UK’s longest-living former MP.
