Apple wants to cram sensors for everything into Apple Vision Pro

We've already got Face ID sensors and a bunch of health sensors in the Apple Watch, but future Apple devices including the Apple Vision Pro will have many more measuring devices, including one for analyzing breathing through your nose. Here's what else is coming.

It's not that long ago that sensors were just something to reveal a plot point on the USS Enterprise. But now we have devices that know when we touch them, when we speak to them, and even when we glance in their direction.

Just going through 2024's patents and patent applications, though, there can't be a type of sensor that Apple is not at least investigating. A newly-granted patent regarding a microphone on your nose is just the latest, although it appears to be the first time Apple has expressed interest in nasal passages.

Following the Thanksgiving weekend, Apple had a more relaxed beta release than usual on Tuesday, with the first build in this round being visionOS 2.2's fourth iteration.

The third round of this version of visionOS was handed out to developer testers on November 18.

Indonesia says it expects $1 billion from Apple to lift iPhone 16 ban

A minister in Indonesia says the local government expects Apple to shortly offer $1 billion in investment, in order to end the country's ban on iPhone 16 sales.

Apple used to qualify for Indonesia's import regulations because it invested in development opportunities there, but then fell short of its promised commitment. Since the end of October 2024, the Indonesian government has banned all iPhone 16 sales.

According to Reuters, Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani first told Indonesian lawmakers that the country will raise its requirements. The minister then said publicly that he expects to see a $1 billion investment commitment from Apple within a week.

The news was shared on the localized Taiwan Apple Newsroom, first discovered by MacRumors. The headset has proven difficult for Apple to sell given its high price point and limited native app selection.

For developers, Coinbase Onramp is intended as a way to simplify the process of users turning fiat currencies like dollars into cryptocurrencies. The Apple Music Replay function isn't as in-depth as Spotify Wrapped, but it does offer some interesting stats and specialized playlists. Apple talks up privacy, yet spies on its own staff, says lawsuit

An Apple employee is suing the company, claiming that it forces staff to give up personal privacy, and demands that it be allowed to use surveillance even when they are at home.

Earlier in 2024, a former Apple software engineer made increasingly paranoid claims about the company, and ultimately threatened the FBI if they didn't investigate. According to New York-based Semafor, a current Apple employee is making similar claims about Apple surveillance, and doing so in a lawsuit.

Amar Bhakta works in advertising technology at Apple and according to his LinkedIn page, has done so since August 2020. However, that LinkedIn page is part of Bhatka's suit as he alleges that Apple forced him to remove information about his job from it.

iPhone 17 Pro will keep titanium insists leaker

While it's been speculated that Apple will return to using aluminum for the iPhone 17 Pro, a new but unsubstantiated claim says that it will continue to use titanium, if only over marketing concerns.

It's been claimed that the iPhone 17 Pro models will move away from titanium, and specifically that they will return to an aluminum frame. It's also been said that the back of the Pro models will combine glass and aluminum.

Now leaker "Instant Digital" on Weibo is insisting that this is not correct, and that the iPhone 17 Pro models will use titanium.
