Tim Cook has constantly been criticized, most recently over Apple Intelligence, but always for just not being Steve Jobs — yet the fact that he isn't Jobs is what has made Apple the technological and financial juggernaut it is today.


There was criticism right back at the start in 2011, when Tim Cook was no longer the temporary stand-in for Steve Jobs, but was getting the CEO job permanently. Today there's criticism of Cook over how Apple Intelligence has seemingly stumbled.

And in between, say around 2018, there was criticism for the now forgotten weak sales of the HomePod. Plus before even then, the Apple Watch was branded a failure, it was called a device without a point.

Give your text and emoji-based messages a bit of life, by sending special effects to others in the iMessage conversation.


Sometimes, sending a message from your iPhone to others can seem a bit pedestrian. A line of text doesn't really elicit emotion unless it's a meaningful message, unless you count the use of emojis and copious use of capitalized letters and punctuation.

If you're eager to show that you're excited or that you love someone tremendously, you can do a lot better than sending plain old text. A FaceTime call certainly allows you to be more expressive, but you may not be in a situation where you can actually place it.

A FOIA request revealed the letters sent to Apple and big tech over the TikTok ban, and they claim the law wouldn't be enforced due to it interfering with the President's management of foreign affairs.


TikTok was banned originally due to the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act that was signed into law under the Biden administration, though it was brought about by President Trump's desire to ban the app. However, he changed his tune when he discovered his supporters used the platform, so he signed an executive order immediately after being sworn in that would delay the ban in the hopes a deal would be made.

Fast forward 75 days, then 75 days again, and the ban has been delayed three times total as no deal has been made. In that time, Apple restored TikTok to the App Store, not because it was legal, but because the Attorney General said the DOJ wouldn't enforce the law.

Apple is set to detail earnings for the third fiscal quarter of 2025 on July 31 in an investor call, though all eyes will be on how unstable tariff policies have impacted the company.


Apple's Q3 tends to be quieter than the rest since holiday sales are long over and spring releases don't always drive the market, but 2025 has something the others didn't — Trump tariffs. Apple shared that it expected to take at least a $900 million hit to its bottom line if nothing changed from March.

Things did change, however, as the Trump administration agreed to back off its seemingly random "reciprocal" tariffs for 90 days as deals were worked out. However, the tariffs left in place were still magnitudes higher than what was in place before Trump took office in January.

Apple reportedly was considering providing cloud services to app developers, as executives considered the creation of a rival offering to services sold by Microsoft, Google, and Amazon.


Developers often rely on cloud servers for various tasks, ranging from data storage to off-device processing. While the major names in the field include the lies of Microsoft, Amazon, and Google, Apple could've been another name on the list.

According to sources of The Information Apple has internally considered providing server-rentals to developers of iPhone and Mac apps. The deliberations, which have happened over the last few years, have not yet resulted in such a service existing, but there's a chance one could eventually turn up.

Apple has long been rumored to be working on the iPhone Fold and a foldable iPad. A new report claims that the iPad project is "paused," and I am convinced that it's the right decision.


The folding device rumors have been plentiful in recent years, and the general belief was that something would be released in 2026 or thereabouts. Whether that would be a phone or some sort of tablet-laptop hybrid was unclear, depending on which analyst you listened to.

It's important to remember that this latest report, courtesy of DigiTimes, doesn't say that the foldable iPad has been canceled. Rather, it says that Apple has "decided to pause progress" on the project.

While China's smartphone sales stall overall, Apple grabbed growth with smart pricing, subsidies, and its broad iPhone 16 lineup.


Apple posted high single-digit growth in China's smartphone market during the second quarter of 2025. Sales rose on the strength of promotions and demand for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone Pro Max models.

A leaker claims to have specifications for the battery in the forthcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max, and they fit with previous reports about the phone being thicker than before.


In March 2025, a generally reliable leaker reported that the body of the iPhone 17 Pro Max was increasing in depth to 8.725 millimeters, compared to 8.25 on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The supposition was that this would allow for a larger battery, and AppleInsider calculated that as small as the difference was, it could potentially mean up to an additional 400 mAh.

Now another often reliable leaker, Instant Digital, has posted that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a 5,000 mAh battery — approximately 324 mAh more than its predecessor.

To combat the common failure at the hinge that existing folding smartphones commonly suffer from, Apple has spent years looking at how to make iPhone or iPad screens that can be rolled out when needed, and rolled back up when not.


Following at least two earlier patents about foldable displays, and also much older ones, Apple is once more also investigating screens that can be stored rolled up.

"A flexible display may be wrapped around one or more rollers," says the newly-revealed patent application called "Electronic Device With Flexible Display Structures." It continues: "optional deployment rollers may be used to help deploy the display as [it] is pulled out of the housing."

Apple is developing many new M5 and M6 Mac configurations, and we now have exclusive details on exactly what the company is developing.

President Donald Trump's new trade deal with Vietnam dramatically hikes import costs for Apple's hardware including AirPods, almost all iPads, and the Mac mini.

North Korean hackers are using sophisticated Mac malware delivered through fake Zoom invites to break into Web3 and crypto firms, stealing sensitive data while evading standard security measures.


Security researchers have identified a sophisticated campaign by North Korean-aligned hackers using novel malware to target Web3 and cryptocurrency companies on macOS systems.

The SentinelOne Labs report describes a multi-stage attack chain. This attack chain combines social engineering, deceptive AppleScripts, and binaries compiled in the Nim programming language.

Following a claim that the iPhone 17 range will see the regular Apple logo moved lower down the chassis, the same leaker says MagSafe charging will get a similar repositioning and for more than just aesthetic reasons.

After seven years of rolling rumors saying that it was for sure coming next year, the iPhone Fold is now in its production prototyping phrase, ahead of an expected launch in 2026.


Unsurprisingly after so many years of designing and manufacturing iPhones, Apple has a very specific process of prototyping that it follows, as exclusively revealed by AppleInsider. Now according to DigiTimes, the iPhone fold prototype is in its first round of testing.

Millions of Qantas customers are at risk after hackers exploited a third-party system to steal personal information. Here's what got stolen.


Qantas Airways confirmed on July 2, 2025, that a cybercriminal accessed customer service records stored in an external system used by one of its contact centers. The company says it has contained the breach but is now working to reassure and inform affected customers.

July 2 is the last day to claim your part of a $95 million settlement, if you owned a device with Siri that could've recorded a private conversation.


Emails are being sent out to consumers about a "Lopez Voice Assistant Class Action Settlement," explaining that the recipient could be owed some money. Following after the agreement by Apple to settle a class-action lawsuit, the time has now come for payments to be made.

The email, seen by AppleInsider, advises that the recipient is identified as potentially being a member of the settlement class, based on Apple's records, and could be entitled to receive the patent.

Apple's expansion in India has hit an unexpected issue as hundreds of Chinese workers have been required to leave its iPhone manufacturer Foxconn's facilities in the country.


In May 2025, it was revealed that Foxconn had made a $1.5 billion investment in India, and separately the Indian government had approved a new semiconductor factory. Yet according to Bloomberg, even as all of this was happening, Foxconn India began sending Chinese workers back to China.

Citing unspecified sources said to be familiar with the matter, the report claims that Foxconn has been telling Chinese workers to return, for about the last two months. So far over 300 Chinese workers have left, and one source claimed that most people remaining are support staff from Taiwan.

The release of iOS 18 brought a number of new features to Apple's Journal app, including the new ability to search and sort entries.


Apple's Journal app was originally introduced in December 2023 alongside iOS 17. In October 2024, it received its first major update, as part of the iOS 18 upgrade.

Apple has failed to convince a jury that it didn't infringe on 3G wireless patents with cellular chips in its iPhone, with it now having to pay TOT Power Control over $110 million.


The jury decision, made on June 30 and made public by a Delaware federal court on Tuesday, didn't go Apple's way. In a long-running patent lawsuit against TOT Power Control, it has been decided that Apple's wireless chips violated the company's patents.

An injured climber stranded above 10,000 feet on Snowmass Mountain in Colorado was rescued after using Apple's satellite texting feature on his iPhone to call for help.


According to the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office, the 53-year-old man reached the summit on Sunday. During his descent, he injured his wrist and was unable to continue alone, according to KDVR.

Without cell service or Wi-Fi in the remote area, he used Apple's satellite texting capability to contact a family member. That relative alerted the sheriff's office and Mountain Rescue Aspen.

New shipment estimates by supply chain analysts suggest that Apple may have gained computing marketshare in the first quarter of 2025, but the report ignores that shipments aren't sales, and Apple stuffed the channel with hardware ahead of tariff impacts.


Apple entered 2025 with faster shipment growth than rivals, with Mac shipments jumping 28.7%. Rivals HP, Dell and Lenovo managed only single-digit growth, according to Canalys data released on July 1.

Apple shipped roughly 2.7 million desktops and notebooks, raising its share of the U.S. PC shipment market to about 16%, up from just over 14% a year earlier in 2024. These figures measure what Apple sent into retail channels, not how many Macs were actually bought by end users.

Apple is researching how to make software for the Apple Vision Pro to help prevent motion sickness from perceived motion, as well as caused by the motion of a vehicle.


Probably all Apple Vision Pro users say that wearing your headset during a flight is more embarrassing — or at least prone to getting knocked in the overhead storage compartment. But some say that depending on what you're watching, they can get motion sickness because of how the headset's sensors are sometimes thrown by the movement of the aircraft.

It's like an exaggerated version of the motion sickness that some users feel when, say, reading their iPhone in a moving bus. Apple addressed that specific issue with its Vehicle Motion Cues in iOS 18.
