Ryu and Yakumo reunite in Ninja Gaiden 4 The Two Masters DLC

Team Ninja has confirmed that the first major expansion for Ninja Gaiden 4, titled The Two Masters, will launch on March 4th. This story-driven DLC picks up immediately after the conclusion of the main campaign, following Ryu Hayabusa and the young prodigy Yakumo as they face a resurgent fiend threat across three entirely new story chapters. Designed to push the limits of even the most seasoned players, the expansion introduces deadlier enemy types and complex boss encounters that require mastery of both characters' unique abilities.

The expansion expands the combat by granting each protagonist a powerful new tool. Yakumo receives the Solitaire scythe, a weapon engineered for massive crowd control and wide-range area attacks. Conversely, Ryu gains the Jakotsumon serpent gauntlets, which prioritise speed and allow him to close the distance between himself and his targets instantly. While the new story missions are intended for post-game play, these weapons will be accessible to players mid-campaign, providing an advantage for those still working through the base story on higher difficulty levels.

For veterans seeking the ultimate challenge, the DLC introduces Abyssal Road, a brutal 100-wave endurance mode set within a shifting Purgatory-like arena. This mode debuts the Special Blood Essence system, which provides dynamic combat buffs, and the Frenzied enemy mechanic, which causes opponents to change their aggression and attack patterns mid-fight.

The Two Masters is included as a free update for those who purchased the Ninja Gaiden 4: Deluxe Edition or the Deluxe Upgrade. Alternatively, it will be offered separately for $14.99. Alongside the paid content, all players will receive a free title update featuring significant quality-of-life improvements, most notably a total overhaul of combat responsiveness and expanded weapon-set customisation options, to ensure a smoother experience across all platforms.

KitGuru says: It's nice to see Team Ninja and PlatinumGames doubling down on the hardcore legacy of this series so soon after its October launch. Have you already played the base game? Are you planning on jumping back for the DLC?

Machine Games appears to be casting for roles in a new Wolfenstein game

For a little while now, Machine Games has been teasing the return of Wolfenstein, as the studio still plans to finish up the B.J. Blazkowicz storyline. Now, it would seem some early details about story plans for the game have leaked.

MP1st viewed alleged casting call details as Machine Games is apparently in the process of recruiting actors for the game. Fake scenarios are often used for auditioning purposes, so it is unclear if anything mentioned in the brief story synopsis for the project will make it into the final game.

Wolfenstein Machine Games

With that said, the casting call points to a new Ukranian orphan character entering the picture in the next Wolfenstein game to join Blazkowicz on his journey.

It is also claimed that shooting for this project will take place over a number of dates later this year and in early 2027. If accurate, that means the next Wolfenstein game could be ready for a proper reveal next year.

KitGuru Says: Are you looking forward to the return of Wolfenstein?

Borderlands 4 Bounty Pack 2 DLC now rolling out

The latest DLC for Borderlands 4 is now rolling out. Bounty Pack 2: Legend of the Stone Demon is the first piece of paid post-launch content for the game, which hit PC and current-gen consoles in October. A Switch 2 version was also planned but appears to be on pause while Gearbox focuses on updates for the current versions of the game.

In this new DLC, players will set out on a mission to end a series of rituals and human sacrifices, culminating in a show down with the Stone Demon.

Alongside Bounty Pack 2, a major update has been released that brings Pearlescent gear to Borderlands 4. This is a new rarity tier, so players now have something to chase beyond the game's trove of legendary items.

Additional content in Bounty Pack 2 includes:

  • 10 new pieces of powerful Legendary and Pearlescent loot
  • Added rewards including a new Vault Hunter Skin, new Digirunner vehicle, and new ECHO-4 Drone Skin
  • A Vault Card featuring 24 cosmetics and 4 rerollable pieces of new mecha- and kaiju-themed gear to unlock through gameplay

Players that own Borderlands 4 Super Deluxe Edition are automatically granted access to Bounty Pack 2 and all content from the Bounty Pack Bundle (Bounty Packs 2, 3, 4, and 5) and Vault Hunter Pack (Story Packs 1 and 2), while Borderlands 4 Deluxe Edition grants the Bounty Pack Bundle.

KitGuru Says: Are you still playing Borderlands 4? Are you looking forward to the DLC or are you waiting for more post-launch content to become available?

Quantic Dream’s first multiplayer game ‘Spellcasters Chronicles’ launches in Early Access

The most unlikely Quantic Dream game to date has arrived. Spellcasters Chronicles is the studio's first foray into multiplayer PvP gaming. The game is now available through the Steam Early Access programme, with a roadmap of updates planned out for the months ahead.

Early Access marks the start of an open “Workshop” phase, where players are invited to help shape balance, progression and long‑term features. Unlike previous closed betas focused on stability, this stage shifts toward refining mechanics, iterating on systems and testing new ideas based on community feedback. Quantic Dream says player input will directly influence priorities and future content throughout development.

Alongside the launch, the studio has outlined its Early Access roadmap, which will roll out features such as voice chat, expanded customisation, a reworked ranked mode, spell‑unlock progression, daily quests and shop updates. Early glimpses of upcoming content include a new arena, Kamazad, and a new Spellcaster class, the Technomancer, with more details to follow. The roadmap will remain flexible as the team adapts to player feedback.

Early Access adds several new systems and pieces of content, including a final tutorial, co‑op vs CPU mode, voice chat, Discord integration, a spell‑unlock system and an in‑game shop. New spells (Ice Ray, Poison Breath, Metamorphosis, Holy Arrow), two summons (Siren, Rhino Rider) and a new building (Rocket Soldier Factory) expand deck‑building options.

KitGuru Says: Are any of you considering picking this one up?

New Nvidia graphics driver optimises for Marathon and Resident Evil Requiem

NVIDIA has released a new GeForce Game Ready driver optimised for Resident Evil Requiem, which launches tomorrow with support for path tracing, DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, and DLSS Ray Reconstruction. The new driver also adds support for Marathon ahead of its Server Slam open playtest this weekend.

Resident Evil Requiem features first‑person and third‑person modes as players follow Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy through a new investigation tied to the 1998 Raccoon City incident. On GeForce RTX hardware, the game enables full path tracing with improved lighting, shadows, reflections and refractions, enhanced further by DLSS Ray Reconstruction. RTX 50‑series GPUs can also use DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation to boost frame rates at high resolutions and settings. RTX 40 series GPU users can also use standard frame generation.

Aside from optimisations for both Resident Evil Requiem and Marathon, the new driver update also fixes a number of issues. For instance, a bug impacting performance in Quantum Break has been resolved, as has an image corruption issue while playing Modern Warfare (2019).

The GeForce Game Ready 595.59 WHQL driver is available now through the NVIDIA app.

Marvel brings back its arcade-era games in new collection

In a massive announcement for retro enthusiasts, Limited Run Games has officially revealed the Marvel MaXimum Collection during the IGN Fan Fest. Developed in collaboration with Marvel Games and Konami, this compendium is far more than a basic port of 8-bit and 16-bit classics. It's a curated archival project aimed at preserving the “Golden Age” of Marvel gaming for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

The collection stands out by refusing to choose favourites among hardware history, instead including every major console and handheld iteration for its featured titles, resulting in a total of six games.

The headliner of the package is the return of X-Men: The Arcade Game. This definitive mutant beat-'em-up is being reborn with full online multiplayer support for up to six players, bolstered by rollback netcode. Alongside the arcade legend, fans can experience the original and unique NES platforming spin on Captain America and The Avengers, as well as the SNES and Genesis versions of the symbiote classics Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage and Separation Anxiety. The collection also delves deep into handheld history, including the Game Boy and Game Gear ports of Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade's Revenge.

For those who remember the crushing difficulty of the 8-bit era, the inclusion of the challenging Silver Surfer on NES comes with rewind functionality and save states. Beyond the gameplay, the collection serves as a digital museum, featuring a music player with iconic chip-tune scores, including new tracks from legendary composer Chris Huelsbeck, and an archive filled with high-resolution scans of original box art, instruction manuals, and vintage advertisements.

KitGuru says: This is the kind of treatment these licences deserve. By including a collection of retro games such as these, Limited Run and Konami are treating them as historical artefacts rather than just old games.

Micron readying 3GB GDDR7 modules

Micron has officially entered the high-density graphics memory market with the introduction of its 3GB GDDR7 modules, joining Samsung and SK Hynix in providing memory modules of this capacity for the next wave of high-performance GPUs. Confirmed via a technical blog post, Micron's new ICs operate at a blistering 36 Gbps, representing a 12.5% speed increase over the initial 32 Gbps GDDR7 modules that debuted last year.

While this falls short of Samsung's flagship 42.5 Gbps chips and SK Hynix's upcoming 48 Gbps roadmap, Micron's 36 Gbps (Micron's blog via Wccftech) ceiling is strategically positioned to meet the actual real-world requirements of today's retail hardware.

The timing of this launch is critical, as the industry is currently grappling with a NAND flash and memory shortage. By becoming a third supplier of 3 GB modules, Micron provides much-needed relief to GPU manufacturers' supply chains. Currently, 3 GB GDDR7 chips are primarily used in specialised hardware such as the RTX 5090 Laptop GPU and the RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell workstation cards.

However, the 3 GB density is widely expected to become the new standard for the rumoured RTX 50 Super series, potentially allowing cards like the RTX 5070 Super and 5080 Super to offer expanded VRAM pools (such as 12 GB or 24 GB) without requiring wider memory buses. That is, however, if Nvidia decides to release them.

KitGuru says: Micron's entry into the 3GB space is less about winning the race and more about ensuring it doesn't get left behind during the AI craze. While Samsung and SK Hynix lead in memory speed, Micron is providing exactly what the market needs right now: a stable, high-capacity module that aligns perfectly with GPU manufacturers' plans. For gamers, the most exciting takeaway is that 3 GB modules make “8GB of VRAM” look increasingly like a relic of the past, paving the way for a much more generous mid-range standard later this year.

Balatro gets free Switch 2 update with Mouse Mode support and more

Balatro is yet another hit indie rogue-like to have been released in the past couple years, with the Poker-inspired deck-builder selling millions of copies across its suite of platforms. Released for the OG Nintendo Switch back in early 2024, Balatro has now gotten a free Switch 2 Edition upgrade, adding full mouse mode support, a framerate bump and more.

In a surprise release, a Switch 2 version of Balatro recently landed on the Nintendo eShop. Being offered a free upgrade for those who already own it on Switch 1, the listing itself does not go into any details regarding what enhancements players can expect.

That said, the publication Nintendo Life has confirmed that the Switch 2 release includes full support for the system’s mouse mode – a welcome addition given the game’s card-based nature. Other noted enhancements include supposed support for HD Rumble 2 as well as a more smooth 60fps.

Balatro Switch 2

Oddly enough however, it appears as though the Switch 2 edition does not include any option to transfer over your progress from Switch 1. Hopefully this gets resolved sooner rather than later.

Regardless, Balatro is a highly addictive and replayable game, and worth experiencing on any system, be it the Switch 1; Switch 2; mobile; PC or wherever else. Now we just have to remain patient for the long-awaited update 1.1.

KitGuru says: Are you a big Balatro player? What’s your preferred platform to play on? Is the lack of save data transfer a dealbreaker? Let us know your thoughts down below.

PowerWash Simulator 2 x Adventure Time release date announced

PowerWash Simulator was a success not only thanks to its unique concept and satisfying gameplay loop, but also as a result of multiple unexpected crossovers from throughout media. Continuing this trend with their recently-released sequel, the first crossover DLC coming to PowerWash Simulator 2 has now gotten an official release date, with the Adventure Time Pack arriving in early April.

Publishing a new trailer as part of IGN Fan Fest 2026, the team at FuturLab officially confirmed that the PowerWash Simulator 2 x Adventure Time DLC will arrive on the 9th of April.

Featuring 5 new levels to clean up, this DLC pack goes all-in on the Adventure Time aesthetics, transforming the artstyle into one which more closely matches the cartoon it’s based on.

Some of the levels will have you clean up Finn and Jake’s treehouse, while others require you to undo antics caused by the Ice King. All-in-all, this DLC seems to be quite faithful to the source material in a bunch of different and welcome ways.

Ahead of the DLC’s launch, FuturLab have also confirmed that PowerWash Simulator will be getting its big 1.2 update next month – set to introduce:

  • Custom Key Rebinding
  • Controller Deadzone Sliders
  • Furniture Improvements
  • Multiplayer Improvements
  • New Cosmetics
  • Free Caldera Chronicles Job

Cleaning up Shrek’s swamp; Bikini Bottom; the Croft Manor and more back in the first game presented a unique look at these iconic spaces in a brand new way, and so it is exciting to see the team doubling down on what worked previously. PowerWash Simulator 2 x Adventure Time officially launches on the 9th of April.

Monster Hunter, Slime Rancher 2 and more join PlayStation Plus Essential in March

Each month, Sony updates its PlayStation Plus Essential line-up with 3-4 titles which subscribers can claim and keep forever as long as they have an active membership. Arriving in March, all PS Plus users can look forward to claiming a variety of titles, including Monster Hunter Rise, indie hit Slime Rancher 2 and PGA Tour 2K25.

Making the announcement via the PSBlog, March’s PlayStation Plus Essential line-up includes 4 titles in total – all of which will be available to claim from the 3rd:

  • PGA Tour 2K25 [PS5]
  • Monster Hunter Rise [PS4 | PS5]
  • Slime Rancher 2 [PS5]
  • The Elder Scrolls Online Collection: Gold Road [PS4 | PS5]

As expected, March’s PS Plus offerings are rather varied in nature, and so depending on the type of games you prefer, the headliner for the month could be any of these 4 titles.

PGA Tour 2K25 is the latest entry in 2K’s long-running golf series. While certainly not for everyone, those who enjoy the sport have deemed 2K25 to be a strong entry in the franchise.

Monster Hunter Rise on the other hand needs no introduction, with the highly-popular title having sold over 18 million copies; currently sitting as publisher Capcom’s 2nd best-selling game of all time. If you haven’t played a Monster Hunter game before, Rise is a solid place to start thanks to its refined combat and movement mechanics alongside its greater focus on battling monsters.

Slime Rancher 2 meanwhile is a sequel to the hit farming sim, in which you discover, raise and take care of a variety of different slimes – this time on the brand new Rainbow Island. If you enjoyed the first game then you’ll love its sequel.

Last but not least, The Elder Scrolls Online: Golden Road Collection includes pretty much all of the previous content released for the MMO over the past decade…everything except the 2025 content pass that is. Still, if you have yet to try out ESO, the Golden Road Collection nets you access to countless hours worth of gaming.

As mentioned, all 4 titles will be available to claim and download from the 3rd of March. This means that you have a little under a week to add February’s games to your library before they are removed – the details of which can be found HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of next month’s offerings? Which of the 4 titles are you most excited for? Do you prefer more sim-styled or arcadey sports games? Let us know down below.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe Director leaves Ubisoft following latest franchise shake-up

While the Assassin’s Creed franchise is in a bit of an odd spot currently, one of the most interesting upcoming entries in the series is AC: Hexe – a somewhat unique title rumoured to be set in 16th century Europe, featuring elements of witchcraft and possibly a fear system. Unfortunately, in the wake of the recent shake-ups at Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed Hexe’s director ‘Clint Hocking’ has left the promising project.

As reported by the publication VGC, following the recent shake-up at Ubisoft (which included an overhaul to the Assassin’s Creed franchise team), long-time veteran Clint Hocking has been confirmed to have departed Ubisoft.

Announced by the newly-appointed AC franchise leadership team during an internal meeting, Ubisoft confirmed that Hexe has not been cancelled and that development will continue. Jean Guesdon (the director of AC Origins and the beloved Black Flag) is taking over as creative director.

Hexe Ubisoft

Speaking to VGC on this latest change, a spokesperson for the company shared the following:

“We sincerely thank [Clint] for his vision, creative contributions, and dedication over the years, and we wish him the very best in his next chapter. Development on Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe continues with a seasoned team. The game will deliver something distinctive within the Assassin’s Creed franchise. We look forward to sharing more information in the future.”

Assassin’s Creed Hexe was first teased all the way back in 2022. With little-to-nothing seen from the project since – and now this latest spanner being thrown into the works – it will be interesting to see what becomes of the title.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this latest departure? Do you have faith in Assassin’s Creed Hexe? Let us know down below.

Acer introduces new Nitro ultrawide with 240Hz refresh rate

Acer has expanded its Nitro display family with the Nitro ED340CUR W0bmiipx, a 34-inch ultrawide monitor designed to bring high-refresh-rate gaming to the value-conscious segment. This model pairs a 1500R curved VA panel with a 3440 x 1440 (UWQHD) resolution, offering the expansive field of view that has become a staple for simulation fans and multitasking professionals alike.

Featuring a 240 Hz refresh rate, the ED340CUR W0 (via DisplaySpecifications) brings a significant jump over previous iterations of the ED340 series, which typically maxed out at 165/180Hz. This, combined with AMD FreeSync Premium support, ensures fluid motion and reduced screen tearing in fast-paced titles. The panel uses an 8-bit + FRC (Frame Rate Control) method to achieve 10-bit colour depth, covering 99% of the sRGB colour space. As is typical of VA technology, the monitor boasts a high 3000:1 static contrast ratio. However, its peak brightness is rated at a modest 250 nits, making its HDR10 support more of a baseline compatibility feature than a transformative visual experience.

The monitor follows Acer's streamlined “ZeroFrame” aesthetic, maximising screen real estate by minimising bezel width. The included stand is tilt-only, which is a common trade-off in the budget category. However, the unit is fully compatible with 100 x 100 mm VESA mounts for those who require height or swivel adjustment. Connectivity options include dual HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4 input, and integrated 2W speakers for basic audio.

Additionally, Acer has packed the display with its VisionCare suite, including Blue Light Shield Pro, flicker-free technology, and a low-dimming feature. These additions, combined with the “Super Sharpness” processing, position the ED340CUR W0 as a versatile tool for both competitive gaming and general office productivity. The monitor is now available for $349.99.

KitGuru says: It's impressive to see 240Hz in a 34-inch UWQHD monitor at this price point. For gamers coming from older 60Hz panels, the move to 240Hz on a curved 34-inch panel is one of the most cost-effective ways to fundamentally change how your gaming setup feels in 2026, assuming your system can support such a refresh rate.

Resident Evil Requiem is launching to high review scores

We are still a couple of days away from being able to get our hands on Resident Evil Requiem, but if early reviews are any indication, Capcom should have another early-year hit on its hands.

The first 100+ reviews for Resident Evil Requiem all went live this afternoon. The PS5 version of the game has the most reviews, achieving an 89 overall critic score on metacritic, although the Xbox, PC and Switch 2 versions all have overall scores above 90.

The story is similar over on OpenCritic, where the game has a 96% recommendation rating and an 88 overall score based on close to 100 critic reviews.

Resident Evil Requiem is the final game in the ‘Winters Saga', which kicked off with Resident Evil 7 a number of years ago. The game is launching for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2 on the 27th of February, with a 60FPS frame rate target across all of those platforms. A PC version is also launching this week with full access to features like higher-fidelity ray-tracing, as well as upscaling technologies like DLSS or FSR.

Fallout 4 launches with multiple performance and graphics modes for Switch 2

When Bethesda rolled out the Switch 2 patch for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, fans were disappointed by the graphics upgrade and lack of performance mode. This had many wondering if Fallout 4 on Switch 2 would also ship in a fairly barebones state. As it turns out, a lot of effort has clearly gone into this new version of Fallout 4.

Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition is now available on the Switch 2 console. Unlike Skyrim, Fallout 4 has access to multiple performance modes on day-one, including a standard 30FPS mode, a 40FPS mode and a 60FPS performance mode.

Fallout 4 Anniversary

Players on Reddit also seem to be happy with the Switch 2 version of Fallout 4, with the new version receiving tons of praise for its stability and performance mode options.

Skyrim fans on Switch 2 can also now update their games with a new 60FPS patch to get more performance there too. In the coming months, Bethesda will have more high-profile titles joining the Switch 2 library, including Oblivion Remastered and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Nacon reportedly files for insolvency ahead of upcoming showcase

Earlier this week, Nacon announced plans for its next games showcase. Now just days later, it appears that the publisher and accessories maker is filing for insolvency.

As spotted by VGC, Nacon has filed for insolvency due to a failed payment on a bond loan. The situation will allow Nacon to remain in business while renegotiating its debt repayments.

Nacon has had a pretty good couple of years for game releases thanks to the likes of RoboCop: Rogue City, Styx: Blades of Greed and Test Drive Unlimited. At an upcoming showcase, Nacon will also be spotlighting upcoming games like Edge of Memories, The Mound and Cthulu: The Cosmic Abyss.

Nacon is also publishing an upcoming Terminator game, although that game recently underwent a major pivot, turning from a co-op multiplayer game to a single-player adventure.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Nacon has a pretty impressive slate of titles coming up, so hopefully they are able to turn things around here.

Regarding GPU and cooling support, these models accommodate graphics cards up to 345 mm in length, CPU air coolers up to 159 mm, and up to a 240 mm radiator.

In both models, the chassis features a mesh front panel that doubles as a dust filter and a perforated top panel for unrestricted airflow. Moreover, each case comes factory-equipped with three Stratus 120 PWM fans: ARGB versions for the M30 ARGB and standard black for the M30 Air. These fans support a fan-stop mode for silent operation and are pre-wired to a PWM splitter for easy motherboard control.

The interior has a modern dual-chamber layout to keep the build tidy, offering dedicated cable routing channels behind the motherboard tray and a left-side tempered glass panel to showcase the components. Storage options are plentiful for the size, with room for two 2.5-inch and two 3.5-inch drives. On the front I/O, Endorfy has included a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2×2 port capable of 20 Gb/s speeds, alongside two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports and dedicated audio jacks.

KitGuru says: Endorfy is making a smart move by bringing its “Signum” DNA to the microATX space. For builders tired of massive towers but unwilling to give up 345 mm GPUs, the M30 looks like a very balanced contender.

Closing Thoughts

The Mchose V9 Turbo is a headset that gets the physical hardware incredibly right, but stumbles on the execution of what makes a headphone great. On the positive side, the magnetic charging dock is brilliant – simply dropping the headphones into place via the volume knob cutout is effortless. Comfort is great, especially when using the included fabric pads, and the battery life is pretty solid.

There is definitely a software bug that makes the battery report a solid 100% life remaining even after 75 hours of active use, but with the convenient charging station I see no use-case where battery will be a concern. The 2.4GHz wireless latency is also spot-on for gaming which is always a must for any wireless headsets.

Unfortunately, the audio experience lets it down. The sound profile feels small, thin, and shouty, severely lacking in low-end energy and sporting recessed mid-frequencies. It is a fatiguing listen for both music and gaming. Even with tools like Equalizer APO, you are fighting against the built-in DSP, making it hard to find an enjoyable tuning, let alone if you just stick with the built-in equalizer on the Mchose app.

The microphone is equally only OK, delivering a muffled, highly compressed sound that easily picks up keyboard noise, requiring noise reduction that further makes it muffled and compressed.

I also spotted some software quirks that could be easily addressed, such as stealthy background processes even when closed, a max 45-minute auto-power-off timer that given the convenient dock setup could have offered a off setting, and a blinding green LED on the dongle.

For £100, I would personally prefer moving to a £20-30 set of IEMs and an external USB microphone on a boom arm, but if you need flawless wireless and are ok with compromising on sound quality, these are worth considering.

You can buy the Mchose V9 Turbo for around £100 HERE.

Pros:

  • Brilliant magnetic charging dock makes top-ups effortless.
  • Strong battery life that lasts for weeks.
  • Excellent 2.4GHz wireless performance with consistently low latency.
  • Comfortable fit, especially with the included fabric earpads.

Cons:

  • Audio is thin and a little fatiguing thanks to poor mid/low-end energy.
  • Muffled, highly compressed microphone with unimpressive clarity.
  • Some annoying software quirks (always on bright green dongle LED, background running processes, battery percentage reporting is broken).

KitGuru says: The Mchose V9 Turbo nails the wireless experience, but it is ultimately let down by fatiguing audio and an only OK microphone.

Amazon cancels publishing deal for new driving game from former Forza devs

Back in 2022, former Forza Horizon developers started up a new independent studio with the goal of creating a new open-world driving game. This new game was set to be published by Amazon Games but a recent shake-up of Amazon's game development and publishing business has now led to the deal being scrapped.

Amazon Games has withdrawn from its publishing agreement with Maverick Games. The decision leaves Maverick’s debut project, a narrative‑led open‑world driving game for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, without a publisher.

In its statement on the move, an Amazon spokesperson told The Game Business:

“As part of our strategic evolution to focus on projects that leverage Amazon’s unique strengths and scale, including the recent re-launch of Luna and our Tomb Raider franchise partnership with Crystal Dynamics, we have decided to release Maverick Games from their publishing agreement with Amazon Game Studios. We have tremendous respect for the Maverick Games team and the compelling narrative-led driving experience they’re creating. This decision allows Maverick Games the flexibility to find a publishing partner whose strategic priorities are better aligned with bringing their game to market.”

Maverick Games has already confirmed plans to continue working on the game and it will be searching for a new publishing partner. At this point, the game should be quite far along, so it could feasibly be ready for a 2027 release window.

The move comes during a period of significant contraction for Amazon’s gaming ambitions. Over the past year, the company has cut most of its MMO development staff, including teams behind New World: Aeternum and an untitled Lord of the Rings MMO. Amazon has also shut down the recently released co‑op title King of Meat and sold the unreleased MOBA March of Giants to Ubisoft.

While Amazon has scaled back its gaming operations quite significantly, Amazon does still have some key publishing projects coming up, including two new Tomb Raider games from Crystal Dynamics.

KitGuru Says: With so many gaming companies making cuts in recent years, this does not feel like a good time to be in search of funding.

Slay the Spire 2 finally hits early access next week

It has been quite a while since Slay the Spire 2 was first announced but the wait is finally coming to an end. The game will begin its Early Access development phase soon, with an early version of the game becoming available on Steam next week.

Mega Crit has confirmed that Slay the Spire 2 will launch into Early Access on Steam on March 5th, accompanied by a new animated trailer highlighting the sequel's expanded scope and newly added four‑player online co‑op.

The original Slay the Spire became a widely loved indie hit thanks to its fusion of roguelike progression and deck-building mechanics, with each run through the game offering something fresh. Slay the Spire 2 builds on that foundation with a substantial list of additions, including new cards, characters, relics, potions, events, enemies, and alternate acts designed to keep you coming back for another run.

We do not yet know how long Slay the Spire 2 will remain in Early Access for, but we expect to see a number of feedback-driven content updates in the year ahead.

KitGuru Says: Slay the Spire 2 has been one of my most anticipated indie games for a while now. Are you planning on picking it up during Early Access?

Horizon Hunters Gathering Playtest goes live this weekend

While sentiment surrounding PlayStation right now is far from its peak, thanks in part to the recent closure of BluePoint Games Studio, the console maker is continuing on with its live-service efforts. Alongside the upcoming Marathon playtest, Sony has now confirmed that the recently-announced Horizon Hunters Gathering is getting its first closed playtest this weekend.

Making the announcement via the game’s Steam page, the team at Guerrilla Games confirmed that the first closed playtest for their upcoming live-service project ‘Horizon Hunters Gathering’ is set to go live this weekend.

Available to those who are signed up to PlayStation’s beta program, the playtest will kick off on the 27th of February and will conclude on the 1st of March. Unfortunately, this first session is limited to those in North America and Europe – though both PS5 and Steam users can get in on the action at the very least.

Horizon Playtest

Of course, the playtest will feature just a slice of the full experience, with Guerrilla confirming the following will be present and playable:

  • Three characters to choose from
    • Axle
    • Rem
    • Sun
  • Two game modes
    • Machine Incursion (Normal / Hard)
    • Cauldron Descent (Normal)
  • 1 region to explore (Colorado Springs)
  • Access to the ‘Gathering’ (social hub)

As mentioned, those interested in checking out the game ahead of time will need to sign up to PlayStation’s beta program. While this won’t guarantee you access, make sure to check out your emails over the coming days in case you are selected to join.

Considering the fact that Sony’s track record when it comes to live-service titles has been a bit spotty, it is encouraging to see that the console maker is hosting multiple playtests in order to ensure the final product is one which players actually want to engage with and return to on a regular basis. It will be interesting to see what fans think of Hunters Gathering when it goes live this weekend.

Blizzard announces top-down 4v4 shooter ‘Overwatch Rush’ for mobile

With Blizzard seemingly successfully reviving the Overwatch franchise in the wake of its recent overhaul, the team looks set to expand the IP out into new mediums. While the mainline Overwatch remains a console/PC only experience, a brand new mobile-exclusive spin-off has now been announced in the form of the top-down 4v4 shooter Overwatch Rush.

Taking to their blog to make the announcement, the team at Blizzard officially unveiled their latest project, writing: “Today, we’re introducing Overwatch Rush, a new top-down Hero shooter designed specifically for mobile set in the Overwatch universe.”

Being developed internally at Blizzard (though by a new team separate from the mainline Overwatch devs), Rush is described as “an entirely new game – not a port – built specifically for mobile players”. This is quite evident from the early development footage shared, showing a game which is clearly Overwatch but operates in an entirely new top-down / isometric perspective.

As of now, very few additional details have been shared, with the team confirming that “there remains a lot of work to do”. Those interested in following Overwatch Rush’s progress directly can do so via the game’s Discord server.

Bringing live-service titles to mobile is always an interesting endeavour, with some trying to port the game as is, while others go for a more dedicated mobile-first experience. Both methods have had their successes and failures, and so it will be interesting to see what becomes of Overwatch Rush once it eventually launches on mobile.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this announcement? Should Rush share progress with the main game? Would you have preferred a more direct port of Overwatch instead? Let us know your thoughts down below.
