MSI reveals new 32-inch QD-OLED 4K monitor with DisplayPort 2.1

MSI is updating its 32-inch QD-OLED gaming monitor lineup with the new MPG 322URX. While it might not be a revolutionary upgrade over this year's MPG 321URX, it brings one crucial improvement: full-fledged DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity.

The MPG 322URX retains the same 32-inch QD-OLED panel with a rapid refresh rate and vibrant colours. However, MSI has finally addressed one of 321URX's main shortcomings by incorporating a DisplayPort 2.1 connection with the full UHBR20 specification (80 Gbps). This is a significant upgrade, as many monitors released this year with the “DisplayPort 2.1” label only supported the lower bandwidth UHBR10 or UHBR13.5 modes.

Another welcome addition is the increased power delivery via the USB Type-C port (DP alt. mode), bumped up to 98W from 90W. Moreover, there are two HDMI 2.1 ports, an earphone-out jack, and two USB-A 3.2 ports. In addition to the new features, you can expect a QD-OLED panel with 4K resolution, 10-bit colour depth, and a 240Hz refresh rate. The monitor is DisplayHDR True Black 400, offering 450 nits of typical brightness in HDR mode (peaking at 1,000 nits) and a contrast ratio rated at 1500000:1.

As with most high-end monitors nowadays, the 322URX comes with a HAS stand with tilt, swivel, and pivot capabilities. The MPG 322URX is listed on MSI's official Chinese store for 8,499 RMB (around £930), 30% more than its predecessor.

KitGuru says: Assuming a similar 30% price increase, the new MPG 322URX may be released at around £1,500. Considering its minor improvements, that seems a bit too steep.

Intel Arc Graphics appears on Steam hardware survey for the first time

Intel's Arc Graphics has finally made its debut on Steam's hardware survey, but it's raising questions about the discrete GPU's adoption rate. Is this a sign of slow progress or simply a reflection of how Steam categorises integrated and discrete graphics?

It's important to clarify that “Arc Graphics” on Steam refers to Intel's integrated graphics solutions found in Meteor Lake CPUs, also known as the Core Ultra 100 series. These have been powering laptops and handhelds for over a year now. The dedicated Alchemist GPUs, like the A770 and A580, are listed separately on Steam and haven't yet gained enough traction to appear prominently in the survey.

This categorisation raises concerns about the visibility of future generations of Arc GPUs. With Intel moving to unique SKU names for integrated graphics in its upcoming generations, these solutions might not be grouped under a single “Arc Graphics” banner, potentially hindering their overall representation in the survey.

Unfortunately, Steam's hardware survey doesn't provide detailed breakdowns of GPU popularity by generation or series. This makes it difficult to gauge the true adoption rate of Arc GPUs among Steam users.

KitGuru says: While the arrival of “Arc Graphics” on Steam is a step in the right direction, it also highlights the challenges Intel faces in gaining market share in the competitive GPU landscape. Whether Intel can overcome these hurdles and establish Arc as a major player remains to be seen.

AMD Radeon RX 8800 XT reportedly targeting RTX 4080 performance

AMD's next-generation RDNA 4 graphics cards are generating a lot of excitement, and fresh leaks from Chiphell forum users and Seasonic have shed more light on the potential performance and power consumption of the Radeon RX 8800 XT.

According to zhangzhonghao (via Wccftech), the Navi 48-based RX 8800 XT could deliver ray tracing and rasterisation performance comparable to Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4080 and 4080 Super. This claim is based on tests conducted in Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, where the RX 8800 XT reportedly achieves a 45% uplift in ray tracing performance compared to the Radeon RX 7900 XTX.

The same leaker also claims that the RX 8800 XT is significantly more power efficient than its predecessor, consuming about 25% less than the Radeon RX 7900 XTX. If that's the case, it would have a power consumption of around 270W. Further fueling the speculation, Seasonic's official power calculator (via VideoCardz) now includes a listing for the Radeon RX 8800 XT with a TDP of 220W. While AMD hasn't officially confirmed this figure, its presence in Seasonic's calculator suggests that it might be based on insider information.

The RX 8800 XT is expected to enter mass production in mid-December, pointing to a potential launch in mid-to-late January. Based on previous leaks, the RX 8800 XT is rumoured to feature 64 CUs (4096 cores) and 16 GB of GDDR6 memory.

KitGuru says: With its potential to rival the RTX 4080 in performance while consuming significantly less power, the Radeon RX 8800 XT is shaping up to be a compelling option for gamers seeking high-end graphics.

Blizzard has DRM-free Warcraft removed from GOG

In a move that has raised eyebrows among classic gaming enthusiasts, GOG is delisting Warcraft 1 and 2 from its store at Blizzard's request. This comes just weeks after the games were added to GOG's preservation program and, perhaps not coincidentally, shortly after Blizzard released remastered versions of both titles over at Battle.net.

GOG announced that the classic RTS games will be removed from sale on December 13th. While existing owners can still expect the game to work, the delisting has sparked debate about the balance between game preservation and commercial interests.

The timing of the removal is particularly noteworthy, coinciding with the release of Blizzard's remastered versions of Warcraft 1 and 2 on Battle.net. While the original versions are still available on Blizzard's platform, the delisting from GOG limits consumer choice and access to these classic titles.

After sharing the news, GOG offered a small consolation to fans who have yet to purchase the games. It provides a discount code (“MakeWarcraftLiveForever”) for £1.50/$2 off the bundle containing both Warcraft 1 and 2.

Interestingly, Warcraft 1 and 2 were recently included in GOG's newly launched Preservation Program, which aims to ensure the long-term compatibility and accessibility of classic games. As such, even if these titles are soon delisted, those who've bought them will still be able to play them.

KitGuru says: While GOG's dedication to preservation is commendable, the delisting of Warcraft 1 and 2 raises questions about the challenges of preserving classic games. Is this a sign of things to come, where publishers prioritise the remasters and re-releases over the availability of original versions?

Silent Hill 2 Remake team have started work on their next game

Bloober Team has been a part of the video games space for quite some time now, especially in the horror genre. That said, the recent release and success of their Silent Hill 2 Remake has helped put the studio on the map. Not wanting to waste this opportunity, the SH2 team have already begun working on their next big project.

In an interview conducted by MP1st, the game director for Bloober Team’s upcoming ‘Cronos: The New Dawn’ (Wojciech Piejko) revealed that they have a second project in the works, stating:

“Within the Bloober Team, we have two production teams. Both teams operate independently, however the whole team is sharing the experience of working on previous projects like Medium, Observer, Layers of Fear, Silent Hill 2, Blair Witch etc. And all I can say today is that after the completion of work on Silent Hill 2, the team will conduct the pre-production work on a new project.”

Silent Hill Remake

Bloober Team have worked on a variety of titles since their founding in 2008 – though saw their first big hit with 2016’s Layers of Fear. Since then, the team have remained in the horror space, releasing both original IPs as well as licensed titles.

Silent Hill 2 was easily their biggest task yet, and with the team seemingly having successfully remade the game for modern audiences, it will be interesting to see what they choose to do next. The full interview can be found HERE.

Intel launches Arc Battlemage GPUs for desktop with XeSS 2, low-latency mode and more

After months of leaks and rumours, Intel is finally listing the curtain on its second generation graphics cards. The new Intel Arc Battlemage desktop GPUs use the new Xe 2 architecture, promising up to 70 percent more performance per Xe core and up to 50% greater efficiency.

With its first-gen Arc A-series graphics cards, Intel had to spend a lot of time maturing the software side, so while launch day numbers for older DX11 titles weren't where we expected, driver updates brought massive improvements. Now armed with more mature drivers, we are expecting a smoother launch for the 2nd generation Intel graphics cards.

In a presentation (slides above), Intel laid the groundwork for what we should expect from Xe 2. On average in games, the new Arc B580 graphics card is up to 24 percent faster than the Arc A750 graphics card. However, there are more features that can extend that performance lead, including XeSS 2, which includes Frame Generation technology for the first time. Intel is also implementing a driver-level low-latency mode so you can ensure your controls are as responsive as possible while gaming.

On top of that, Intel is claiming some big wins in terms of price to performance ratio. Intel claims best-in-class performance per dollar for the Arc B580, with 25% better ray-tracing performance for its price compared to the RTX 4060. The lead over the similarly priced RX 7600 is even larger. The gains on the rasterization side are also impressive.

If Intel can deliver, the Arc B580 could be the new go-to graphics card for an entry-level gaming rig, particularly if you are using a 1080p or 1440p monitor.

In the slide below you can see the spec sheet for the Arc B570 and B580 graphics cards:

The Intel Arc B570 and B580 graphics cards will be available soon. The B580 launches on December 13th for $249, while the B570 will be available in mid January for $219.

KitGuru Says: What do you all think of Intel's second generation graphics cards? We'll have a review later this month so stay tuned for our own testing and performance impressions.

Leaked video claims to show upgraded Switch 2 Joycons

With the successor to the Nintendo Switch said to be announced sometime early next year, we have started to get an increasing number of leaks claiming to offer details on this elusive next-gen console. One of the biggest weak points for the Switch was its Joycons. Fortunately, Nintendo seems to be revamping them for the Switch 2.

As shared to the Chinese site Bilibili, a video claiming to show off the Joycons for the Switch successor has appeared online – noting some pretty significant improvements/refinements.

By far the most notable change comes in the way the controllers will connect to the handheld, now utilising strong magnets instead of the previous sliding mechanism.

Beyond this, it seems like the Joycon successors will add a couple more buttons, including additional triggers for each controller so they can be used more easily on their own.

Switch 2 Joycons

Finally, in another instance of controller parity, it appears as though the new Joycons will both feature IR blasters – as opposed to just one with the original Switch.

Based on these leaks, it's clear that the Switch 2 will most likely be a refined version of the original console, with few additional frills, though hopefully plenty of added horsepower.

We will likely get a further influx of leaks as the system gets closer to being revealed.

More insiders claim a new portable PlayStation is happening

Late last month, a surprising report was released claiming that – following the success of the PlayStation Portal remote play accessory – Sony is once again interested in developing a dedicated portable console. Since the initial report, more insiders claim to have heard similar statements; suggesting that the dream for a new PSP might one day actually become a reality.

Following the initial report from Bloomberg which stated that Sony is “in the early stages of developing a portable console that would play its PlayStation 5 games on the move,” more insiders have now corroborated the claims.

During the most recent episode of DF Direct Weekly, the team at Digital Foundry confirmed that they have heard similar reports of a dedicated PlayStation handheld from multiple sources – suggesting that the device is more than just a pipe dream.

Portable PlayStation

According to Digital Foundry, “we actually heard about this handheld some months ago from a couple sources specifically. So, we're not in the business of leaking things but it's interesting that this finally sort of started to make its rounds because it just sort of confirmed what we had seen and heard off the record about this existing which is cool.”

While the device was said to be in its early stages of development, the fact that Digital Foundry heard of the device from multiple sources seems to suggest that Sony is most likely intending for this handheld to be a real device – and not just some internal prototype which will never see the light of day. We will have to wait and see, but here’s to hoping.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger steps down

Intel is in for another big change behind the scenes. In an unexpected move, Intel CEO, Pat Gelsinger, officially stepped down and left the company today, leaving the company to search for a replacement.

Gelsinger took over the CEO position at Intel around four years ago and kicked off a roadmap to regain chip market leadership, a plan that also involved spending billions on setting up new fabrication facilities to compete with the likes of TSMC and Samsung. Gelsinger officially resigned on the 1st of December, leaving before his original 5-year roadmap can be completed. During that time, Intel has been looking to speed up the pace of innovation, with a new node being utilised for CPUs each year.

Unfortunately, with the tech market shifting over to AI accelerating hardware, Intel has not managed to keep up with giants like Nvidia, which has dominated the AI hardware market and outpaced rivals over the last five years. With that said, Intel did recently get on board with AI, shipping the first Intel CPUs with AI-accelerating cores in 2023.

Following the news of Gelsinger's departure, Intel share prices rose by three percent, according to Reuters. The company's CFO, David Zinser, along with Michelle Jongston Holthaus, will take over as interim co-CEOs. A search committee is also now in place while Intel seeks out a new full-time CEO.

Intel Arc B570 specifications leak via board partner

Intel's Arc Battlemage GPUs are almost here, and a new leak has revealed the full specifications for the B580 and B570 models. Most of what we heard about the B580 seems correct, but the details on the B570 were still scarce, at least until now.

A leaked spec sheet for the ASRock Arc B570 Challenger OC shared by Gaw (via VideoCardz) reveals that the card will feature 144 XMX Engines and 18 Xe2-Cores, two fewer than the B580. More importantly, the B570 will pack 10 GB of GDDR6 memory across a 160-bit memory bus, delivering a maximum theoretical bandwidth of 380 GB/s. This is roughly 16.7% less bandwidth than the B580, which is expected to feature 12 GB of GDDR6 on a 192-bit bus.

Interestingly, the spec sheet mentions a PCIe 4.0 interface for the B580 and B570. This confirms the suspicions that the cards would use a PCIe x8 connection. Both cards will support DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1, although the specific DisplayPort 2.1 standard remains unconfirmed. The leaked specifications also reveal factory overclocked speeds of 2.6 GHz for the B570 and 2.8 GHz for the B580, a significant increase compared to the previous generation.

Intel has officially announced that the Arc Battlemage series will be unveiled on December 3rd. While an official release date is still unknown, we expect the cards will be available starting December 12th or 13th. Regarding pricing, the first leaked listings suggest the B580 will cost around $250-260. As such, expect the B570 to cost less than that.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru says: Given the B570's leaked specs, how will it compare to the B580 and other entry-level gaming GPUs from Nvidia and AMD? What pricing would be appropriate for the B570?

Intel Core 7 240H laptop benchmark results emerge

Intel's next generation of mobile processors is on the horizon, and a new leak has given us a sneak peek at what to expect. The Core 7 240H, believed to be part of the rumoured Core 200H family, has surfaced on Geekbench, and based on the entry, it looks like it's a refreshed Raptor Lake processor.

Spotted in an Acer Nitro ANV15-52 gaming laptop equipped with an RTX 4050 Laptop GPU (via Benchleaks), the Core 7 240H packs a 10-core (6 Performance + 4 Efficient) configuration with 16 threads. The Geekbench listing refers to it as “Raptor Lake”, suggesting a refresh of the Raptor Lake mobile architecture. As such, don't expect it to feature an NPU like the Lunar Lake processors.

With a base clock of 2.5 GHz, a boost clock of up to 5.1 GHz, and 24 MB of L3 cache, the Core 7 240H appears to be pretty much a refreshed Core i7-13620H with higher boost clock speeds. The Geekbench entry also shows the Core 7 240H achieved a single-core score of 2,689 and a multi-core score of 13,330. These figures put it on par with the Core i7-13620H in multi-core performance but slightly ahead in single-core capabilities.

Based on Intel's Xe architecture, the integrated graphics of the Core 7 240H also show promising results. With 64 EUs (equivalent to 8 Xe-Cores) and a maximum clock speed of 1.5 GHz, the iGPU achieved OpenCL scores close to 13.5K points, offering solid performance for everyday tasks and general computing. Intel hasn't officially announced the Core 200H series, but that will likely change at CES 2025.

Fortnite “Remix: The Finale” in-game concert sets new all-time concert record with 14m concurrent users

Fortnite's latest live concert, “Remix: The Finale”, has blown past all previous attendance records, drawing, at least for a moment, over 14.3 million players simultaneously to witness an unforgettable musical experience.

Featuring performances from artists like Juice WRLD, Snoop Dogg, Ice Spice, and Eminem, the event captivated audiences with its visuals and high-energy music. While Epic Games hasn't released the exact figures, you can see over at fortnite.gg that on November 30th, the concurrent player count surpassed 14.3 million players, making it the most attended Fortnite event in the past two years. As far as we know, there was only one time where the player count was higher, and that was in the Galactus event with over 15 million players.

The event was a fitting tribute to the late Juice WRLD, whose music and legacy were celebrated throughout the experience. Players were treated to in-game performances by massive animated versions of each artist, each with their unique stage and visual style. Snoop Dogg rocked an amusement park, Eminem battled a mecha version of himself, Ice Spice took over a cityscape, and Juice WRLD delivered a moving performance on the water.

While the focus was primarily on the musical performances, Epic Games also offered a sneak peek at the new Chapter 6 map, teasing the changes and additions that await players in the upcoming season. More details about Chapter 6 will be revealed in the coming days.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth sales soar 268% following GOTY nominations

Last week, we reported on the boost in sales seen by the poker-themed Balatro following its Game of the Year (GOTY) nominations at the TGAs. It seems Balatro wasn’t the only nominee to see a healthy uptick in sales, with the likes of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth growing by over 250%.

As reported by Christopher Dring of Gamesindustry.biz, per the GSD, sales for many of the GOTY nominees saw a major week-on-week increase in Europe following the announcement of the TGA contenders.

Beyond Balatro, 4 of the other 5 Game of the Year nominees saw double digit sales growth at the minimum.

GOTY Nominations

Elden Ring sales increased by 38%; Astro Bot units jumped up by 61%; Metaphor ReFantazio saw a huge 172% uptick; and last but certainly not least, sales for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth grew by 268% week-on-week.

With these titles seeing such boosts based solely on their nominations, it will be interesting to track whether the winner will see another spike in game sales following the show.

Humble announces ‘Disney Classics’ Bundle

Humble bundles are a great way to get a bunch of games for a relatively low price. Available now as part of an extended Black Friday deal, the Disney Classics bundle comes packed with decades worth of titles.

Available to purchase for the next two weeks or so, the Disney Classic Black Friday Humble Bundle is offered in just one single form. That said, it’s a good one as paying a mere £7.78 will net you 17 games in total from across the history of Disney and LucasArts, including:

  • STAR WARS Rebellion
  • STAR WARS: The Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition
  • STAR WARS Republic Commando
  • STAR WARS Galactic Battlegrounds Saga
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight – Jedi Academy
  • Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
  • Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
  • Star Wars Empire At War: Gold Pack
  • LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
  • LEGO Star Wars – The Complete Saga

Humble Disney

Despite what it may seem, there are some non-Star Wars games included in the bundle, with the remainder of the titles being as follows:

  • Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb
  • Monkey Island 2: Special Edition
  • The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition
  • The Curse of Monkey Island
  • LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
  • LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues
  • LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean The Video Game

As always, a portion of the money will go to charity, with this bundle supporting Starlight Children’s Foundation – providing gaming and entertainment to hundreds of children's hospitals across the US.

While the bundle misses out on many of Disney’s actual classic games, it still offers a rich library of titles which hail mostly from a bygone era.

Garry’s Mod reaches new milestone of 25 million copies sold

Garry’s Mod is arguably one of the most influential platforms for user-generated-content, with the ‘mod’ inspiring near-infinite creativity to this day – including birthing some of the biggest current memes. 18 years since its release and Garry's Mod continues to thrive, having now surpassed over 25 million copies sold.

Making the announcement on Twitter in celebration of the game’s 18th anniversary, Garry Newman of Garry’s Mod fame revealed the latest sales stat, saying:

“When Valve first floated the idea of selling Garry's Mod on Steam I said no because.. ‘who would pay for that?’. Well 18 years later, it turns out that 25,560,290 people would. Glad to have been wrong on this one.”

Garry’s Mod 25 million

The previous milestone of 20 million copies was reached back in September 2021, and so to see it continue to sell over a million copies year almost two decades on from launch is impressive to say the least.

As mentioned, Garry’s Mod has had a long-lasting impact, especially thanks to its creative/viral potential – with some of 2008’s best memes and 2024’s biggest all being created with its tools. Here’s to 25 million more copies. Garry’s Mod is on sale right now for 40% off (£4.19).

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 surpasses 5 million copies sold

Released over a decade following its first entry, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launched in September to a wave of success; both critically and commercially. Just 3 months on and the game has already hit its first major milestone of 5 million copies sold.

Making the announcement as part of their November community update, the Space Marine 2 team at Saber Interactive celebrated the milestone, saying:

“5 million Space Marines have joined our ranks to purge Xenos & Chaos! Huge thanks to everyone who's joined the fight. It’s been incredible to see the community grow (and to keep seeing it grow)! Here’s to many more battles ahead.”

The full post can be found HERE and includes details on the game’s upcoming patch 5.0 / the Dark Angels Chapter Pack.

Space Marine 2 managed to sell an impressive 2 million copies in its first 24 hours, however given how front-loaded many game sales are, it having pushed a further 3 million since is impressive indeed.

Hopefully the game only continues to improve with time and as more content gets added.
