The Acolyte Fans Might Have Already Figured Out Who Gave Qimir His Scar

Warning: Spoilers follow for Episode 6 of The Acolyte.

The Acolyte's latest episode sparked intrigue among fans as Qimir unveiled a scar that could connect him to an unexpected character.

Episode 6 of The Acolyte raised unsettling questions about identity and destiny while also revealing more about Qimir, aka The Stranger, and his mysterious past. Osha awoke on an "Unknown Planet" with Qimir and took the opportunity to get to know him better, with one exchange seeing her probe about a prominent scar on his back.

"Looks like someone stabbed you in the back," Osha suggests to Qimir, to which he replies: "Someone who threw me away." Osha then asks whether his Jedi Master was responsible for it (after we learned that he was a Jedi a "very long time ago"), but Qimir refrains from answering the question, and a long silence hangs in the air.

Fans have connected the dots and linked the scar to Vernestra Rwoh, especially since she used the lightwhip for the first time this week, and the scar resembled one that would come from such a weapon. Theorists also took it one step further and speculated that Qimir may have been Vernestra's Padawan once upon a time.

there HAS to be a connection. vernestra is being VERY secretive… pic.twitter.com/n9LeG2rSUw

Yeah, Vernestra Rwoh and Qimir had a falling out. Those are definitely light whip scars.

I think when Master Sol said to him "I sense something familiar" it was referring to being at the Jedi temple years before when Qimir was a Padawan. It makes sense now ✨ #TheAcolyte pic.twitter.com/F05s7N4oCc

We don't know what happened to Vernestra between THR books and The Acolyte which is roughly a 100 years so she had plenty of time to take another padawan

— Thomas Storaï (@ThomasStorai) July 3, 2024

Qimir was once a Jedi. Now he’s fallen to the dark side to “tip the scales.”

Vernestra his master that gave him that scar with her lightsaber whip?! 👀 #TheAcolyte pic.twitter.com/BIb2ZwJ83h

Reddit users also agreed that the revelations and events of this week's episode were too coincidental for there not to be a connection. "Oh look Qi'Mir looks like he has some kind of whip scars all over his back," one person mused, adding, "Oh look Venessa casually whipped out a light whip just to show it off this episode."

"Those whip-like scars seared into Qimir's back... it has to be from Vernestra's whipsaber," another person added. "Also, her behavior when they get to Khofar... she knows exactly what happened and who did it. It's why she insisted on personally investigating and keeping the council out of the loop as much as she can."

"Ok, so master Vernestra is definitely Qimir's old Jedi Master right? With her whip saber being what left the scars on his back?" a third person quizzed, to which someone replied: "Would make some sense why Vern might want to cover it up. If HER failed padawan became a sith... that doesn't look good."

With only two episodes of The Acolyte remaining, there are plenty of mysteries to be solved (and perhaps four or five more to explore in a potential Season 2). IGN's review of Episode 6 notes that "next week's penultimate episode looks to finally fill in the blanks about what happened on Brendok," at the very least.

The Acolyte Visits an Unknown Planet, and Star Wars Fans Think They Know Where It Is

Warning: Spoilers follow for Episode 6 of The Acolyte.

The Acolyte's latest episode visited an "unknown planet," but Star Wars fans think they have already identified the location.

Move over, Bazil — Star Wars fans have potentially tracked down the mystery spot where Qimir and Osha are stationed during Episode 6. The title card on the screen referred to it as an "Unknown Planet," but viewers saw glimpses of luscious green land, rocky cliffs, and deep dark caves — one of which seemed riddled with Cortosis.

Cortosis is a metal that is not only resistant to lightsabers but also briefly shorts them out (as witnessed in Episode 5). The rare material is extremely difficult and expensive to mine, so it is typically only used by powerful Sith Lords and others with very deep pockets. Qimir appears to have hit the jackpot with his chamber.

While some people drew comparisons between the mystery locale and Ahch-To from the Star Wars sequel trilogy, others put a pin in the galactic map for Bal'demnic due to its Cortosis connection. Those speculating about the spot on X/Twitter shared descriptions of the planet from Wookiepedia to strengthen their theories.

According to its data entry, Bal'demnic is "an ocean planet adorned with rocky tropical islands in the Bak'rofsen system of the Auril sector, located within the Outer Rim Territories." It also has "rich deposits of Cortosis ore," which, at one point in time, "fell into the hands of Sith Lords Darth Tenebrous and Darth Plagueis."

Ahch-To truthers it might be over. The lingering shot of the cortosis ore vein is probably a hint that the unknown planet is actually Bal'demnic from the Plagueis novel! pic.twitter.com/R0SHyNNIki

Pretty certain that "unknown planet" Qimir is stationed on is Bal'demnic, which was featured on the original clone wars show.

It has rich deposits of Cortosis, and is where Darth Tenebrous and Darth Plagueis sourced the material for their using.

Ocean planet with cortosis veins…pretty sure that’s Bal’demnic from the Darth Plagueis book and not Ahch-To.#TheAcolyte #starwars pic.twitter.com/0CuqzNycdO

It will be a huge win for me, a fan of Genndy Tartakovsky’s STAR WARS: CLONE WARS, if Bal'demnic, a planet that first appeared in a montage in Ch. 22 of that Legends animated series (in which Anakin eats bugs), before showing up in the novel “Darth Plagueis,” is in THE ACOLYTE. pic.twitter.com/0zP5fP4tXS

— a.c. mackenzie (@ACMacKenZ) July 3, 2024

Love the theory that the planet Qimir resides on could be Bal'demnic due to the Cortosis, in the Darth Plagueis novel, Plagueis killed his master Darth Tenebrous whilst they visited a Cortosis mine. #StarWars #TheAcolyte #Qimir pic.twitter.com/bkev1mtyql

— Iain (@starwarsiain) July 3, 2024

As Legends tell us, Plagueis' and Tenebrous' travels would take them to the planet of Bal'demnic, home of a rich deposit of Cortosis ore. However, after a mining droid triggered a gas pocket, nearly killing the pair, Plagueis saw an opportunity to kill his master, burying Tenebrous under tons of rock before snapping his neck.

Some are convinced The Acolyte will eventually reveal a connection to the Sith Lords. Speculation about Plagueis arose before the series even began, and now people are wondering whether he has ties to the Witches of Brendok or had a hand in the creation of Osha and Mae. Others think Qimir is working as his apprentice.

Move Over Barbenheimer, Wicked and Gladiator 2 Are 2024's Unexpected Double Bill

Wicked and Gladiator 2 have become the internet's new Barbenheimer, as the two movies now share the same release date.

Universal's film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked recently had its release date pulled forward to November 22, the same day as director Ridley Scott's Gladiator 2 comes out, and it didn't take long for the internet to see a golden opportunity for the two movies to be watched back-to-back as an unlikely double feature.

The viral sensation that was Barbenheimer celebrated the same-day release of Greta Gerwig's Barbie and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer last year, and it seems cinemagoers are trying to recreate another two-movie marathon with memes, mash-ups, and more surfacing online as people make plans for Wicked and Gladiator 2.

Barbenheimer, of course, is a portmanteau of Barbie and Oppenheimer, but the nickname for the latest cinematic double bill is proving a little trickier for people to agree on. There has been everything from "Gladicked" to "Glicked" suggested, but "Wickiator" seems to be the top choice and the one the majority are going with.

Wicked, the musical fantasy film about the witches of Oz, stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, a young woman misunderstood because of her unusual emerald-green skin who has yet to discover her true power, and Ariana Grande as Glinda, a bubbly blonde gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.

Gladiator 2, on the other hand, returns to Rome several decades after the events of its predecessor, with a story that focuses on Paul Mescal's Lucius, Connie Nielsen's son from the first film who is now an adult and ready to fight as a recent set of first-look images saw him go up against Pedro Pascal's Roman general Marcus Acacius.

Wicked and Gladiator 2 both arrive in theaters on November 22 — the same month as Paddington in Peru, Moana 2, and more.

The Acolyte Showrunner Confirms Kylo Ren Easter Egg Was Included 'On Purpose'

Warning: this article contains spoilers for The Acolyte's fifth episode! If you haven't already, be sure to check out IGN's review of The Acolyte: Episode 5.

The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland has confirmed Episode 5 includes an intentional nod to Kylo Ren but says fans will have to wait and see to find out what it means.

Just in case anyone was in doubt, Headland told Inverse that the Kylo Ren Easter egg spotted by eagle-eyed viewers in the fifth episode of The Acolyte was a deliberate reference. "It is there on purpose, but I can't tell you why, and I can't go into what it is," she said, urging viewers to keep watching as she coyly added: "You shall see."

If there's anything different about the second half of the season, it's darker.

The eyebrow-raising moment came towards the end of the last episode when the newly unmasked Master approached a wounded Osha, and fans heard Kylo Ren's theme music from the Star Wars sequel trilogy playing in the background, prompting fan theories about whether the villainous character is a Sith Lord or a Knight of Ren.

While the status of The Master, now known as The Stranger (or "Darth Teeth" in some circles), is unclear, it sounds like future episodes will reveal more about the Kylo Ren connection. Some believe The Master is himself the apprentice of Darth Plagueis, made famous by Palpatine in Revenge of The Sith. The Acolyte is set at the end of the High Republic era before the events of the Skywalker Saga, and so fans reckon it will lead into and potentially explain the events of Episode 1, 2, and 3.

Headland also warned that the second half of the season will be "darker" than the first, leading up to the show's "emotional" finale on July 16.

"There's more action; there's more lightsabers. It's got a lot of the stuff that we've already had, but if there's anything different about the second half of the season, it's darker. It gets increasingly more emotional," she shared. "[The characters] are going to start making moves that are going to inform an endgame, and I think that always ends up being pretty emotional at the end of the season or the end of any story."

The fifth episode was the most action-packed chapter so far. It featured an epic lightsaber battle between the Jedi and The Stranger, who was able to shut down his opponents' weapons using his armor. Headland confirmed this was due to Cortosis — a metal that is not only resistant to lightsabers but also briefly shorts them out.

"Cortosis was such a great new element, and I had always thought of it as such a cool thing to incorporate... There's also a limited resource of it, which is why he doesn't have a whole suit of armor, and it only works for maybe a minute," she explained, saying there would be "other Legends stuff" to discuss after the finale.

With three episodes of The Acolyte remaining, there are lots of jigsaw pieces still to slot into place, but the story threads are starting to come together. IGN called Episode 5 an "exciting and brutal episode" in which "The Master is unleashedand unmasked, leading to thrilling and shocking results that truly upend the series."

Ridley Scott Says He 'Should Have' Directed Original Alien Sequels, but He Was 'Never Asked'

Director Ridley Scott has revealed he "was never told or asked" about the original sequels to Alien but feels he "should have" returned for them.

The acclaimed filmmaker directed the 1979 horror classic Alien, which spawned three sequels helmed by three different directors. Scott chalks this up to not having the option to make those sequels himself, as he claims nobody ever approached him about expanding the Alien franchise, or for that matter, Blade Runner, at the time.

I was never told or asked. You can imagine I wasn't happy.

"I'm the author of two franchises. Most directors in Hollywood — certainly, let's say, at my level — don't let that stuff go," he told Vanity Fair. "But I did Alien as my second movie, so I didn't have much choice. And Blade Runner was my third movie. So, I had no choice because I had very tough partners. It was kind of 'Welcome to Hollywood.'"

"I was slow out the starting gate," Scott continued. "I should have done the sequels to Alien and to Blade Runner. You change over the years. At that time, I didn't want to go through it again. So Jim Cameron came in — and then David Fincher — on Alien." He added, "I was never told or asked [about sequels]. You can imagine I wasn't happy."

Scott returned to helm 2012's Prometheus and 2017's Alien: Covenant, though he admitted last year that he regretted his decision to take the reins on the second Alien prequel film when he had the option to direct Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to his 1982 sci-fi classic, which ended up being helmed by Denis Villeneuve.

"I shouldn't have had to make that decision," Scott told Empire last year. "But I had to. I should have done Blade Runner 2."

Despite some missed opportunities, Scott is still involved with both franchises. He is executive producing Blade Runner 2099, a live-action series that takes place 50 years after Villeneuve's movie sequel, and he is also one of the producers on Alien: Romulus, a film set between the events of Alien and Aliens, directed by Fede Álvarez.

Scott has also returned to the director's chair for the much-awaited sequel to his Roman epic Gladiator, which hit theaters 24 years ago. Gladiator 2 will arrive on November 22, with Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou, Joseph Quinn, and Denzel Washington featured on its star-studded cast.

Paramount Pictures revealed five minutes of footage of Gladiator 2 behind closed doors at CinemaCon in April. Check out IGN's coverage to find out what was shown.
