Star Wars is forever bringing back elements of the prior Extended Universe and Andor Season 2 is doing its bit by featuring a ship from a 1994 video game.
IGN's Andor: Season 1 review returned a 9/10. We said: "Andor is one of the very best TV shows of the year and as good as Star Wars has been in a long, long time."

Deadpool & Wolverine and Inside Out 2 helped propel Disney to what CEO Bob Iger described as “one of the best quarters in the history of our film studio.”
Disney has endured a number of tough years, with its Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar movies and TV shows struggling to break out. But Deadpool & Wolverine, the only MCU movie of 2024, and Pixar's Inside Out 2 helped change all that during the fourth quarter of its financial year (July to September 2024), contributing $316 million in operating income (profit). All told, Disney saw an incredible $4 billion globally from the box office this year.
Disney also saw solid profit from its streaming business, with Disney+ and Hulu bringing in $253 million for the quarter. Disney’s total streaming operating income, which includes money made from ESPN+, was $321 million. A year ago the streaming business suffered a $387 million loss. During the quarter, Disney+ saw 4.4 million additional Core subscribers. Disney+, now five years old, now has more than 120 million Core subscribers. All told, Disney now has 174 million Disney+ Core and Hulu subscriptions.
In total, Disney sales increased 6% for Q4 to $22.6 billion from $21.2 billion in the prior-year quarter, and 3% for the year to $91.4 billion from $88.9 billion in the prior year. And while income before taxes declined 6% to $0.9 billion in Q4 from $1.0 billion in the prior-year quarter, income for the full year increased 59% to $7.6 billion from $4.8 billion in the prior year.

Despite being the face of a Hollywood film franchise and the star of a three decade old video game franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog is still homeless.
As reported by Automaton, fans grew concerned recently after discovering what appeared to be a major change to an incredibly random piece of Sonic the Hedgehog lore. A comic featured in the 2025 Sonic the Hedgehog Annual claimed the blue blur lived in Green Hill Zone, the iconic opening level to the original Sonic the Hedgehog.
But Sonic lore has otherwise stated he's a drifter, roaming from place to place and never settling down, with even official channels like the TailsTube web series pointing to this fact.
Some fans were therefore relieved to hear Sonic had settled down, while others were in an uproar, forcing the hand of Chris Hernandez, Sega's associate manager of Sonic the Hedgehog lore, who clarified the annual's claim was just a misprint.
"Sorry to burst the bubble so late here," Hernandez said on X/Twitter. "This was something we caught early on but it looks like an older draft got through on accident. Sonic doesn't have a home; he's still a drifter. Will work on making sure this doesn't happen again. Thanks for catching this."
Sonic appears too busy to sit down and apply for a mortgage, with his third film debuting on December 20 and bringing Shadow the Hedgehog to the cinematic universe. An enhanced remake of Sonic Generations folded in the edgier hedgehog in the aptly titled Sonic x Shadow Generations.
In our 9/10 Sonic x Shadow Generations review, IGN said: "Sonic x Shadow Generations takes an already excellent game and spring jumps it to new heights with a creative Shadow campaign and an appreciable graphical upgrade.

Controversial games and entertainment company Embracer has provided a financial update and in it delivered a verdict on its recently released games.
Embracer, which bought the Tolkien IP in 2022 for $395 million, said The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria’s Steam and Xbox launch in August “performed slightly above management expectations,” which sounds like corporate speak for did well. Free Range Games’ survival and crafting game first launched on PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive in October last year, before coming out on PS5 in December.
While we’re on The Lord of the Rings, Embracer said Middle-earth Enterprises had a “slow quarter” year-on-year (the July to September Q2), with no notable new partner releases, but a higher film revenue than expected. Embracer said it’s seen encouraging fan reactions to the marketing it’s doing for the December release of anime The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
Embracer had a brutal Q2 for PC and console games, with tough comparisons from last year’s Remnant 2 and Payday 3. The most notable new release, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, late in the quarter, “was well received by players but initial digital sales were slower than expected.” That’s corporate speak for a flop. In contrast, Satisfactory’s 1.0 launch on PC “performed above management expectations,” which means it did great. Coffee Stain Studios’ first-person open-world factory building game had over 200,000 concurrent players in September.
Embracer has endured a tough time in recent years, laying off thousands of staff (the number of game developers working at the firm has decreased from 10,654 to 6,250) and selling a number of its studios, including Borderlands maker Gearbox and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 developer Saber Interactive. Today, it announced the sale of subsidiary puzzle game mobile developer Easybrain to digital games company Miniclip for $1.2 billion, which should keep the lights on for the foreseeable future.
As for the rest of its financial year, Embracer is pinning its hopes on the hotly anticipated Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which it said was still on track for its February 11, 2025 release date. It still owns Metro developer 4A Games, which is working on a brand new game in the series. Asmodee, Embracer's tabletop games company, is still up for sale.
"Over the past 15 months, we have created a stronger foundation for long-term value creation, lowering our net debt and our capex," Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors said.
"We have many high-performing and efficient companies, several with industry leading margins. However, we acknowledge that parts of our PC/Console and Entertainment & Services segments are still underperforming due to delays and low ROI for primarily small and mid-sized releases. Combined with fixed operating costs this creates unacceptable margins which we are firmly addressing ahead of the spin-offs."
Other Embracer games in the works include Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core, Fellowship, Gothic 1 Remake, Hyper Light Breaker, Killing Floor 3, REANIMAL, Satisfactory (console), Titan Quest II, Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, and Wreckfest 2.

Nintendo masterpiece The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time sees protagonist Link play beautiful melodies on an ocarina to cast magical effects and save the world. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii does the same, sort of, except protagonist Majima instead summons a giant glowing jellyfish that fights pirates.
Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii developer Ryu Ga Gotoko Studio shared the combat abilities Majima can use in the game in a blog post translated by Gematsu. This included details on the Dark Instruments he can deploy and the sharks, apes, and jellyfish they summon to fight baddies.
Alongside the more traditional Mad Dog style Majima has used throughout the entire Yakuza / Like a Dragon series, players can also choose to use his Sea Dog style that's more fitting for Majima's new life as a pirate.
Primarily using cutlasses to take down enemies, the Sea Dog style also lets Majima use sidearms to activate triple finishers. Three sidearms are available throughout the game, including the Cutlass Boomerang, Pistol, and Chain Hook.
Things get particularly wild with the Dark Instruments, however. Majima will build up a Madness Gauge while fighting (separate to Heat Actions) that can be used to activate this new ability, with players able to choose between playing a violin, saxaphone, guitar, and the aforementioned ocarina.
"Blowing into Majima’s cursed ocarina beckons a terrifying jellyfish to emerge from the briny deep," reads the description, which officially dubs the jellyfish the Dark God of the Deep. "This creature will heal Majima and his allies, as well as shock and immobilize nearby enemies."
The violin summons giant sharks which deal heavy damage, the guitar summons a "ferocious" ape that inflicts massive damage with limited range, and the saxaphone summons an "avian ally" that blows enemies away.
Black Ops 6 Season 1 launches today, November 14, and with it comes a mammoth update that has become a Call of Duty trademark.
The Season 1 update, which brings Call of Duty up to version 1.061.000, is available to download now and weighs in at a gargantuan 40.422 GB on PS5 and 38.724 GB on PS4.
This is an enforced update for Call of Duty, the all-encompassing app that houses Black Ops 6, Warzone, and prior Call of Duty games. You need to download the 40 GB update for the base game even if you don’t have Black Ops 6.
Season 1, which goes live at 9am Pacific / 5pm UK time, makes a number of significant changes to Black Ops 6, adding new Multiplayer maps, skins, a battle pass, and big balance changes. Activision published the Season 1 patch notes overnight. New updates are also coming for the Black Ops 6 campaign and Modern Warfare 3, if you have those downloaded.
Call of Duty, with its various evolving modes like Multiplayer and Zombies alongside yearly releases on top of separate games like Warzone, is not only messy but takes up a big slice of your storage. For this year’s game, Activision made a number of changes designed to streamline the Call of Duty interface, offering more direct access to games and more control over downloads.

Mortal Kombat 1 developer NetherRealm fully unveiled Ghostface overnight, showing off the DLC guest character’s signature hunting knife, crawling skills, and ability to phone in a fellow Ghostface partner to help finish off victims.
But what the developers failed to reveal is which Mortal Kombat characters they’re quietly bringing back to the series via the Scream villain’s various versions that are available in-game.
During a Kombat Kast, NetherRealm confirmed there are actually three versions of Ghostface: the main Ghostface is the villain from the Scream films, as you’d expect, but the identities of the other two are secrets NetherRealm challenged players to work out for themselves.
As reported by EventHubs, NetherRealm confirmed that the other two Ghostface versions are Black Dragon characters called, at least for now, The Enforcer and The Assassin. Black Dragon is Mortal Kombat’s mercenary clan headed up at various points (the timeline is pretty complicated!) by fan-favorites Kabal and Kano. The lore justification here is Ghostface has been transported to Lui Kang's timeline without his partners from the movies, so recruits two members of the Black Dragon clan to help him out.
So, Ghostface is actually three characters in one. You can switch to temporarily playing as The Enforcer or The Assassin by holding a button during certain moves. You can tell them apart by their knives, if you look closely. You get 12 seconds to play as an alternative Ghostface before you revert back to the OG, or your opponent lands a hit and triggers the OG to come running back in.
Players have analyzed The Enforcer and The Assassin’s unique movesets for hints at the Black Dragon characters’ true identities. Already, there are two outstanding suggestions.
Warning! Spoilers for the identity of Ghostface in Mortal Kombat 1 follow.
Mortal Kombat fans have identified moves that are directly related to Kobra (Enforcer) and Kira (Assassin), two human Black Dragon members who each made their debut in 2004’s Mortal Kombat: Deception. We also see Assassin do Kano’s famous roll attack, but Kira does this move as well in both Deception and 2006’s Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. As you can see from the movesets, this one looks nailed on.
Reaction to this revelation has been positive, not only because it’s a clever way of bringing back two rather obscure Mortal Kombat characters that perhaps would never have seen the light of day otherwise, but also because it leaves the door open for other, perhaps more wanted characters to appear as Kameos or even fleshed out DLC characters with a potential, but so far unannounced Kombat Pack 3.
As for Ghostface, the OG version is voiced by Roger L. Jackson, who has voiced the character throughout the Scream franchise. Ghostface joins the Mortal Kombat 1 roster on November 19 as part of the early access period for Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Expansion owners, followed by wide availability for purchase on November 26. Up next is Conan the Barbarian and T-1000 Terminator.

Amazon is already rolling out some impressive early Black Friday deals after announcing its official sale dates. The standout offer is the Fire TV Stick 4K, now at its lowest-ever price of $21.99 (according to camelcamelcamel) beating its previous best of $25 during Prime Day.
It’s official: You can now play Xbox games on compatible Amazon Fire TV devices. Players with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription and a Fire TV Stick 4K can connect a wireless controller and access the Xbox Cloud Gaming library, which includes games like Palworld and Forza Horizon 5.
Here’s How to Start Playing Xbox Games on Your Fire TV Stick:
Install the Xbox app through the Fire TV app store
Sign in with your Microsoft account
Pair a wireless Bluetooth controller to the TV through the “Controllers and Bluetooth” submenu in the Fire TV’s settings. Compatible controllers include the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, PlayStation DualSense Wireless Controller, or DualShock 4 controller.
Unfortunately, only specific Fire TV devices support Xbox Cloud Gaming. Thankfully both the 4K and 4K Max sticks in the deal above work just fine! It’s also worth checking your TV model, as the Xbox app is also already available on certain Samsung TVs.
Once you’ve got your compatible Amazon Fire TV device, you can start setting up the Xbox app. Before jumping into instructions, it's important to note that you must have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription to play Xbox games on your Fire TV Stick. At the time of writing, Fortnite is the only exception to this rule. It’s also important to note that because you’ll be streaming the game, the caliber of your internet will affect the experience, with a poor connection impacting visual quality and potentially creating input lag.
When Is Black Friday 2024?
The actual date of Black Friday in 2024 falls on November 29 this year, but the deals season will begin a lot sooner than that. Amazon’s Black Friday Week will extend well beyond the day itself, starting on November 21 and running through the end of Black Friday.
Whether you're shopping for tech, toys, or holiday gifts, Amazon’s Black Friday Week sale is promising plenty of opportunities to score discounts. Retailers will not reveal their biggest Black Friday deals until the big day, but most general deals will be available well in advance.

Black Friday is fast approaching, and Amazon is next to officially announce its sale dates. Amazon's "Black Friday Week" sale will kick off on November 21 at 12:01 am PST and runs through November 29 at 11:59 pm PST, with the retailer promising millions of discounts across a wide range of categories. Here's what you need to know about one of the year's biggest shopping events, alongside the best Black Friday deals that are already available at Amazon.
Amazon Black Friday Deals
Amazon is already showcasing some early discounts, and one of the big standout offers is the Fire TV Stick 4K, now at its lowest-ever price of $21.99 (according to camelcamelcamel), and beating its previous best of $25 during Prime Day.
Think about it this way: There's a 100% certainty of more digital games sales over the Black Friday period, and these gift card discounts mean you can save even more. Or you could actually gift them, if you want? There are also discounts on Fortnite V-Bucks, Xbox Game Pass Core, and Roblox Digital Gift Cards if you're so inclined.

Whether you're shopping for tech, toys, or holiday gifts, Amazon’s Black Friday Week sale is promising plenty of opportunities to score discounts. Retailers will not reveal their biggest Black Friday deals until the big day, but most general deals will be available well in advance, such as the Fire TV Stick deal we mentioned.
What Black Friday Deals Can You Expect from Amazon?
The retailer hasn't revealed much, but so far these are what Amazon plans to feature deals across more than 35 categories, including:
Electronics: Deals on popular brands like Sonos and Dyson
Toys: Discounts on favorites like Hot Wheels
Home and Kitchen: Products from brands like KitchenAid and Solo Stove
Beauty and Fashion: Offers from Clinique, New Balance, and more.
Amazon Prime members gain access to exclusive deals, fast free delivery, and other benefits. You can get a 30-day free trial, or membership costs $14.99 per month or $139 annually, with discounted options also available.
You won't need a Prime membership to access the Black Friday deals, like in Amazon Prime Day, but it might still be useful for fast delivery, and access to any surprise deals Amazon does decide to put behind its paywall (such as the 10% off gaming gift card deal that's already live).
With Black Friday getting closer, it's a good time to start planning your shopping in earnest. Here are a few Black Friday tips that you should be considering ahead of the event:
Set a Budget – Keeping track of how much money you can actually spend is important to avoid overspending. When everything is on sale, it can be easy to buy more than you really should just because things are at their lowest price of the year.
Create a Shopping List – Knowing exactly what you're trying to find discounts on is a great way to avoid making unnecessary purchases. It can also make it easier for you to compare prices between retailers or set price drop alerts ahead of time.
Compare Prices – Although Amazon tends to automatically price match most things, it's still good to compare prices to other retailers before you buy. You can also use the website CamelCamelCamel to compare current prices against Amazon's historical pricing.
Find Unbiased Reviews – Amazon reviews have gotten somewhat better in recent years, but you should still do research outside of the site before making a decision. Seek out unbiased reviews on expensive purchases before you buy. IGN's Tech reviews, for example, are a great place to look.
Be Wary of Sponsored Products – Search results in Amazon include sponsored sales that may not be what you're looking for. Look for the little 'sponsored' tag before you click. You may want to scroll past those.
Make Sure to Clip Coupons – One of the easiest ways to save money on Amazon that many folks seem to miss is the clipping of coupons. There are a ton of coupons available for Prime Members, and all you need to do is check a box on the product page for additional savings.

If you highly revere the first three Grand Theft Auto titles, as I did and still do, today's your day to revisit that iffy remaster bundle. Work has been done and they're going for mighty cheap prices now. How much better is the spit shine? Well, I'll let this article/video tell the tale on its own.
Today in Wow You're Aging news, I'm celebrating the 21st of cult hit Beyond Good & Evil. Weirdly, most modern gamers probably only know this title through the talk of its ludicrously delayed prequel, a project 16 bloody years in the making. But the fact that Ubisoft can't seem to let that initiative die is a ringing testament to how gamers like me felt about that very special 2003 original. Buy the 20th Anniversary remaster, and you'll get a unique blend of photojournalism meets Wind Waker-esque action-adventuring, stealthing, and semi-open-water exploration.
Insomniac's Pro Enhancement approach on the Spidey titles is mirrored here—two modes: "Fidelity Pro" and "Performance Pro." The former targets 30 fps and lets you individually tune the ray tracing features to achieve higher frame rates with the VRR and 120 Hz Display options. My recommended is Performance Pro, as it targets a silky 60 fps and uses PSSR to retain (almost) all of the ray tracing stuff. You will get RT Ambient Occlusion, but not the "High" settings of RT Key Light Shadows (better shadowing at mid-to-extreme distances) or RT Reflections (smoother animations within reflections). Again, I'm all about fluid action that still blows minds like a RYNO 8 to the face—so this is my pick.
The developers behind Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket have teased some of the updates players can expect to receive in the coming months, including additional booster packs, trading, and other new features.
The team detailed their strategy in a post published on its official X/Twitter account. It’s a message that thanks fans for trying out Pokémon TCG Pocket since its launch a few weeks ago, and more importantly, it tells players what they can expect if they stick around. Update plans not only include new cards but even new, mysterious features that have yet to be announced.
Hi everyone! Today, I'd like to share a brief statement by the #PokemonTCGPocket Team about more immediate updates coming to the game in the next few months.
I look forward to sharing more details with everyone as they become available! pic.twitter.com/eaN35vRpSw
Pokémon TCG Pocket will receive at least one “major update” in the near future, with the team saying that the plans is to release new booster packs before the end of the year. Those who have picked up the Pokémon mobile game so far have been treated to three packs – Genetic Apex Mewtwo, Charizard, and Pikachu – with three pools of cards to choose from. It’s unclear exactly how many more packs will release in the next few months or which creatures they will feature.
How and when the card roster will grow remains a mystery, but one feature that has been on everyone’s minds is currently slated to arrive early next year: trading. The ability to trade cards with other players is a Social Hub menu option that’s been grayed out since launch, and in January, Pokémon TCG Pocket will finally make it available to use. It’s worth noting that today’s message clarifies that only “certain cards” will be available to trade at release, with the team promising to “expand the selection of cards that are able to be traded” over time.
While the message keeps more than a few details hidden, rest assured that more features will come to Pokémon TCG Pocket down the line. “Also, we have other new features in development outside of the trade feature introduced here,” the message says. “We plan to announce more details about the update as the dates for the addition of these features are finalized, so please look forward to it.”
This mobile version of everyone’s favorite pocket monster trading card game has taken the world by storm since it launched late last month. Developer Creatures Inc. announced Pokémon TCG Pocket managed to surpass 30 million downloads last Friday – just more than one week after launch. Although release dates for expansion sets have not been officially revealed, a datamine from earlier this week suggested that more cards may be due to arrive in December and January.

Lenovo didn't wait around until Black Friday to drop the price of the Ghost Cipher Limited Edition Xbox Series X|S wireless controller to the lowest we've seen. Right now you can get it for just $54.99 after a 21% off discount. Although Xbox controllers in standard colors are likely to be discounted further for Black Friday (we expect they'll be $39.99 each), it's less probable that the Ghost Cipher edition will follow the trend, since it was only just released on October 21. This is an official Microsoft controller that's compatible with Xbox Series X and S consoles as well as your PC.
21% Off Xbox Controller Ghost Cipher Edition
The Ghost Cipher Edition is an absolutely gorgeous controller, with a translucent clear top case, rubberized ash gray grips, metallic bronze triggers and D-pad, and a solid white back. The interior components are colored silver to match the overall theme. Aesthetics aside, this Xbox wireless controller is identical to the one that's bundled with the Xbox Series X and S console. Standard features include textured grips, hybrid D-pad, button mapping with the Xbox app, a 3.5mm audio jack that works with any wired headset, and a Share button to upload screenshots and video.
The controller supports both Xbox wireless and Bluetooth connectivity. That means you can use it for your PC or mobile device. In fact, we think this is the the best PC controller you can get. If your PC doesn't have Bluetooth, you can still use it in wired mode with a USB Type-C cable or go out and buy a Bluetooth or Xbox wireless adapter.
Get the Sky Cipher Controller as Part of a Bundle Discount
A similar looking edition is the Sky Cipher controller, which features the same trasparent casing but in blue instead of clear. It's available on Amazon as part of an Xbox Cloud Gaming Bundle, which includes the controller, an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max, and one month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, all for only $79.99. Better yet, this bundle will allow you to play Game Pass games without having to own an Xbox console.
Xbox Gift Cards Are on Sale at Amazon
Amazon Prime members can get 10% off Xbox gift cards and PlayStation Store gift cards. We only see this deal come around a few times a year and it's usually only for smaller denominations. This time around you can get up to a $100 Xbox gift card or $250 PlayStation gift card and still get the discount.
3 Months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $36.49
Woot! (which is owned by Amazon) is offering the best deal on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Right now you can get a 3 month code for only $36.49. Earlier this year, Microsoft raised the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to $19.99 per month, so now you're saving 40% off a 3 month membership. Note that you can purchase multiple codes and apply them to your account, up to a maximum of 36 months. If you're an Xbox gamer, this is a great way to save a lot of money in the long run since you won't have to buy new release games individually to play them.

Need a quick way to transfer files and images from your SD or Micro SD cards to your PC? Right now Amazon is offering the Sabrent USB 3.0 OTG Card Reader for only $6.99 after you apply coupon code "135WAWRG" during checkout. This tiny little stick features both USB 3.0 Type C and USB Type-A ports for maximum compatibility and up to 5Gb/s bandwidth.
Sabrent USB 3.0 OTG Card Reader for $6.99
This Sabrent OTG card reader is no bigger than a standard USB flash drive. One end has a USB 3.0 Type-C port and the other end has a USB 3.0 Type A port. Both sides include caps so they're protected when not being used. The USB 3.0 interface boasts theoretical speeds of up to 5Gb/s or 625MB/s (actual performance is determined by the speed of your card). The card reader has slots for both Micro SD/SDXC and full-sized SD/SDXC cards.
Using the card reader is as simple as inserting it into one of your spare USB ports. It requires no new drivers, so it's literally plug and play. Because it can plug into both USB Type-A and Type-C ports, it will work with pretty much any laptop or PC built in the past decade. I've owned this exact card reader for a few years now and often transfer images and videos from my DSLR to my PC, and I've never experienced any issues with it. With a practically throwaway price, Amazon's 30-day easy return policy, and over 12,000 positive reviews, there's really no risk.

Not everyone is the DIY type. If you're in the market for a prebuilt gaming PC, Dell is one of best brands we'd recommend. Alienware desktops and laptops feature solid build quality, top-of-the-line gaming performance, excellent cooling (further improved on the newer models), aggressive styling, and pricing that is very competitive with other pre-built options. Best of all, there are plenty of sales that happen throughout the year, so it's not difficult to grab one of these computers at considerably less than their retail price. This page includes all of the best deals that are currently available.
The Dell Early Black Friday Sale has commenced and Dell has once again come out in front with some pretty outstanding deals on Alienware Aurora R16 gaming desktops and Alienware m-series and x-series gaming laptops. Check out all of the deals below, and we'll keep adding to the list as we find more.

The 2024 Alienware "R16" desktop chassis is a major improvement.
The R16 is Alienware's current 2024 desktop PC design. It's 40% smaller in volume compared to previous iterations. It features a simple yet proven airflow pattern; air is drawn in through the side intake vents over the GPU area and a 120mm fan at the front of the case, and exhausts by way of a 120mm rear fan and two 120mm top fans. A 240mm radiator for the all-in-one liquid cooling system is mounted to these top fans. Some configurations don't actually include the liquid cooling system, but we rarely include them in this roundup. That's because Alienware's liquid cooling solution is far superior to their stock air cooling and is easily worth the price premium.
Alienware Aurora R16 i9 RTX 4090 Gaming PC
The Alienware Aurora R16 RTX 4090 Super gaming PC drops to $2999.99 after a $700 instant discount. The RTX 4090 is the most powerful GPU on the market. In his RTX 4090 review, Chris Coke writes, "The RTX 4090 may be huge and expensive, but holy smokes if it doesn’t blow the competition out of the water... Until the rest of the pack can catch up, between its impressive hardware specs and its DLSS 3 AI wizardry, even the $1,599 price doesn’t seem unreasonable for the unrivaled frame rates that this card can crank out." The 4090 is also great for AI thanks to its 24GB of VRAM.
Alienware Aurora R16 RTX 4080 Super Gaming PC
The Alienware Aurora R16 RTX 4080 Super gaming PC drops to as low as $1999.99 after an $800 instant discount. The 4080 Super is a second generation card that supersedes the RTX 4080. It's Nvidia's second most powerful card and a superior GPU to AMD's Radeon RX 7900 RTX if you factor in DLSS and ray tracing performance. In our RTX 4080 Super review, Jacqueline Thomas writes, "If you're in the market for a 4K graphics card around $1,000, it's hard to think of any GPU that's a better purchase right now. This is the RTX 4080 that should have launched in 2022."
Alienware Aurora R16 i7 RTX 4070 Gaming PC
Dell has dropped the price on this Alienware Aurora R16 RTX 4070 gaming PC to $1,399.99. This is the best value for gamers who want a PC that can run any game currently available, but don't want to spend to overspend. The RTX 4070 is one of the best graphics cards for most people; it's not exorbitantly priced, and it's powerful enough to run games at up to 4K resolution (although 1440p is its sweet spot).
Alienware Aurora R16 i9 RTX 4070 Ti Super Gaming PC
This Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC boasts a multi-tasking friendly Intel Core i9-14900F CPU and RTX 4070 Ti Super GPU for $1,799.99 after a $600 instant discount. The RTX 4070 Ti Super is a second gen RTX 40 series GPU; it's about 10% more powerful than the RTX 4070 Ti and 15-25% faster than the RTX 4070 Super. This is a great card for both 1440p and 4K gaming. The VRAM count is upped to 16GB compared the the RTX 4070 Ti's 12GB, which means it has the same amount of VRAM as the RTX 4080 Super.
Not all laptop GPUs are the same, even if they share the same name.
There are two important tidbits that deserve mention concerning graphics cards found in laptops. First, mobile GPU variants are not as powerful as their desktop counterparts. For example, a mobile RTX 4060 doesn't perform as well as a desktop RTX 4060. The mobile versions are generally about one to two tiers lower in performance. Using the same example, the mobile RTX 4060 performs more similarly to a desktop RTX 4050.
Second, not all laptops feature the same performance out of the same GPU. For example, the RTX 4060 found in the Alienware m16 will be more powerful than the RTX 4060 found in the Alienware x14. In order to roughly tell how good a GPU will be, you can look at the TGP rating. That's basically the amount of power supplied to the GPU. A higher TGP rating means more power will be delivered, equating to stronger performance, however the wattage consumption and heat generated will be higher. Here are the maximum TGP rates for the RTX 40 series graphics cards:
Mobile RTX 4050: 115W
Mobile RTX 4060: 115W
Mobile RTX 4070: 115W
Mobile RTX 4080: 150W
Mobile RTX 4090: 150W
Alienware m16 R2 16" RTX 4060/4070 Gaming Laptops
Dell is offering an Alienware m16 R2 16" RTX 4060 gaming laptop for $1,199.99 after a $300 instant discount. You'll need a decent amount of GPU power to be able to run games smoothly on the display's bumped-up QHD+ resolution. The RTX 4060 sits between the RTX 3070 and the RTX 3070 Ti, so it's definitely no slouch in terms of gaming performance. Alternatively, you can upgrade to an RTX 4070 for $400 more. The RTX 4070 mobile is on par with the RTX 3080 but with newer features like DLSS 3.0.
Alienware m18 R2 18" i9 RTX 4070 Gaming Laptop
The Alienware m18 is the biggest Alienware laptop you can buy with an imposing 18" 2560x1600 display and top-of-the-line components. There are two models that are on sale today. The higher end model includes an Intel Core i9-14900HX CPU and RTX 4090 GPU for $2899.99. The RTX 4090 is still the most powerful mobile GPU on the market, and by a very substantial margin. It's roughly equivalent to a desktop RTX 3090 GPU. If that's beyond your budget, there's also a model equipped with an Intel Core i7-14700HX CPU and RTX 4070 GPU for $1899.99.
The Alienware x16 gaming laptop is a slimmer and lighter redesign of the traditional m-series laptop. It's the thinnest 16" Alienware laptop ever and compares in build quality and performance to other high-end ultra-thin laptops like the Razer Blade. This Alienware x16 R2 laptop is built with premium materials, like a magnesium alloy chassis and palm rest, anodized aluminum lid, stainless steel keyboard tray, and Micro LED RGB accent lighting. It's only 0.73" thin and weighs in at 6 pounds. That's impressive considering the fact that this laptop can be equipped with the most power NVIDIA GPU.
Dell G15 15" AMD Ryzen 7 RTX 4060 Gaming Laptop
Dell has dropped the prices on both this Dell G15 RTX 4060 gaming laptop to an incredibly low price of $799.99. Dells G-series laptops are great options for budget gamers. They offer excellent gaming performance equal to a comparably equipped Alienware laptop but at a much lower price point. They also have better build quality than Dell's Inspiron lineup, with nicer materials that include anodized aluminum, and an aggressive cooling design borrowed from Alienware laptops.
32" Alienware AW3225QF 4K QD-OLED Gaming Monitor
Dell is offering a $250 Dell promotion egift card when you purchase the 2024 Alienware AW3225QF 32" 4K QD OLED gaming monitor. This is one of the very few 4K OLED gaming monitors under 42"on the market. If you're looking for the best gaming monitor for 2024, this should definitely be on your short list. I personally use this monitor for my gaming rig and absolutely love it. This is one of few OLED gaming monitors that offers a 3 year warranty with burn-in coverage.
Why Pick a Dell or Alienware Gaming PC?
If you're in the market for a prebuilt gaming PC, Dell is one of best gaming brands we'd recommend. The Alienware gaming desktops offer a staggering array of options, all built into a custom chassis. Alienware gaming laptops in recent years have been redesigned to be thinner and lighter while still offering the same immense power under the hood. Consistent build quality, available inventory, frequent sales, and solid customer service are the main reasons why Dell is at the top of our buying list for gaming laptops and PCs.

Lady Gaga's first role since her ill-fated turn in Joker: Folie à Deux is a cameo in Wednesday Season 2, Variety reports. Entertainment Weekly was the first to have the news that she would be joining in an undisclosed role.
Lady Gaga's appearance follows a meme that went viral in the wake of Wednesday Season 1, in which Jenny Ortega's Wednesday Addams dances to a sped up version of 2011's Bloody Mary. The meme was part of Wednesday's massive in debut in 2022, which saw it shatter Netflix records and equal Stranger Things 4 despite middling reviews.
For Season 2, Wednesday's showrunners apparently tied to get Lady Gaga onboard for a larger role, but ultimately had to settle for a cameo. She joins a guest star line-up that includes Haley Joel Osment and Christopher Lloyd, with a main cast that adds Steve Buscemi among others.
Not much is known about Wednesday Season 2's story, though it will apparently ditch romance in favor of more horror, with Ortega saying it will be "bolder, more dark" this time around.
We wrote in our original review of Season 1, "Wednesday introduces a whole new generation to the Addams family with creepy and kooky hijinks and an incredible performance from Jenna Ortega. Some tertiary characters struggle from weak writing while more interesting players are kept on the sidelines, but it’s not enough to bog down the series too much.
Wednesday Season 2 is slated to release sometime in 2025.

For a film with a title that sounds like an entry on Urban Dictionary, Hot Frosty is surprisingly light on sexual content. (This is for the best, for reasons that will be explained.) The naughtiness in this Netflix Christmas movie is confined to self-aware “shirtless moments,” where the audience is encouraged to ogle the male lead as he prances around a snowy town square or fixes a leaky roof or whatever with his pecs hanging out. He’s not bothered by the cold, you see, because he’s a snowman. Like, a literal snowman.
The film, functionally directed by prolific Canadian jobber Jerry Ciccoritti, hand-waves away this miraculous development as “the magic of Christmas,” which is fair. The magic of Christmas can do anything, as long as it’s happening in a picturesque burg where everyone loves Christmas and everything is perfect, except for the love life of a deserving woman whose biggest flaw is that she cares too much about this town and its people.
Star Lacey Chabert specializes in these sorts of characters: Her IMDb page lists 14 films with the word “Christmas” in the title, only one of which is a horror movie. She comes to this particular straight-to-streaming project with tongue planted in cheek – the only facial expression she can manage in this movie – as does the rest of the cast. The self-aware intentions behind Hot Frosty (seriously, ew) are clear in its casting, which includes Eastbound & Down’s Katy Mixon Greer as a doctor with an unwavering faith in Christmas miracles and reliable comedic supporting players Joe Lo Trugilo and Craig Robinson as the town’s unnecessarily punitive lawmen.
Specifically, Robinson’s sheriff character is hell-bent on sending somebody to jail for the crimes of streaking across the public way and breaking into a local thrift store to steal some clothes. Both were, of course, committed by Jack Snowman (Schitt’s Creek’s Dustin Milligan), the aforementioned frozen figure who comes to life after lonely widow/beloved diner owner Kathy (Chabert) places a magic scarf around his neck and wishes for male companionship. The snowman is cut – a conspicuously Michelangelo’s David-esque entry in the snow-sculpture contest Hot Frosty features in its first five minutes – and therefore so is his human form, in that dehydrated, “bulging arm veins and an eight pack” kind of way.
Where Chabert’s face remains placid, Milligan’s is all expression, and he really is trying his hardest to bring a slapstick sensibility to an absurd role as… well, there’s no other way to put it but to quote 30 Rock: The (snow)man is a sex idiot. (He’s also kind of a puppy, in the sense that he might die if he’s left in a hot car too long.) On top of the type of amnesia that only exists in the movies, Jack is childlike – naive, trusting – to the point where it’s arguably unethical for a full-grown adult to become romantically involved with him. And so much of the film’s tension comes from the uncomfortable anticipation of waiting for the point where Kathy says to herself, “I’m gonna screw this snowman.”
It’s not right, frankly – but in a giggly, jaw-dropping kind of way. It’s also kind of funny, if you don’t take it too seriously, and nothing about this film is supposed to be taken seriously. It’s fun to write about, and – for the most part – fun to watch. That being said, the comedy is extremely one-note, and Hot Frosty’s bemused smirk gets more and more strained as the bit wears on to feature length.
Nothing about this film is supposed to be taken seriously.
It’s a cup of whipped cream with no hot chocolate. And so, when the inevitable, cringey earnestness about Christmas and togetherness and never giving up on love arrives, it comes as a relief. Now we can laugh at the movie, instead of laboring to laugh with it. Hot Frosty won’t mind, right?
If you're on a tight budget but still want a stylish gaming desk, we've got you covered. As part of the Walmart Black Friday Sale, you can get a GTRacing 55"x24" Gaming Desk for a mere $59.99 – and that includes free shipping.
Although the retail price of $199.99 is a bit exaggerated (it usually hovers closer to about $100), this is still far and away the lowest price we've seen for a 55" gaming desk. It has plenty of extra features you wouldn't expect at this price point, like carbon fiber styling and integrated LED accent lighting.
GTRacing 55" Gaming Desk for $59.99
GTRacing is a brand you may or may not heard of; it sells gaming chairs and desks at budget-friendly prices on Amazon and Walmart. This particular desk is a very popular model at Walmart. It features a steel frame that supports up to 300lbs and a 55"x24" MDF desktop surface that's wrapped in a water resistant carbon-fiber patterned skin. The desk features two cable grommets, one on either end, to route your cables. There's also an integrated LED accent lighting around the perimeter that can cycle through different colors and patterns. In terms of accessories, you get a large 24"x24" mousepad, as well as an under-desk headphone hook. A one-year warranty is also included. Seriously, for $60, you can't ask for more. You could get one of the best gaming desks of 2024 instead, but then you're paying up to 10x the cost.
Looking for a matching gaming chair?
Walmart has also discounted the GTRacing GT099 Series gaming chair to only $93.99. This is one of the most popular budget gaming chairs at Walmart with over 2,300 reviews giving it a 4.3/5 star rating. This sub-$100 gaming chair features PU leather upholstery, an adjustable headrest and lumbar pillow, up to 160 degrees of recline with a rocker toggle, and a weight limit of 300lbs. Sure, it's not as fancy as a Secretlab gaming chair, but it also costs 1/5 the price.
Looking for more RGB bling for your gaming setup?
Earlier this year, Govee launched a new line of Evangelion-themed RGB LED lights. They're based on existing Govee products that have been meticulously designed to faithfully recreate the futuristic space-mecha vibe of the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime, from the color palette, patterns, shapes, and text to custom lighting presets that you won't find on the standard models. They do cost a premium compared to Govee's non-Evangelion-themed offerings, but right now, ahead of Black Friday, they're significantly discounted. There are several designs to choose from and they all look amazing. They'd make a pretty incredible holiday gift for anime and gamer fans.
When Is Black Friday 2024?
The actual date of Black Friday in 2024 falls on November 29 this year, but the deals season will begin a lot sooner than that. Leading up to the big event, retailers will begin to open deals online. This usually starts in the last week of October, just before Halloween. Each week leading up to the event will slowly roll out more deals, which ultimately leads to massive discounts on Black Friday. Retailers will not reveal their biggest Black Friday deals until the big day, but most general deals will be available well in advance.

Treyarch has published patch notes for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 1 ahead of its launch on PC and consoles tomorrow.
Following a string of smaller updates delivered throughout the last few weeks, today’s patch notes tease an update that is (unsurprisingly) the biggest yet. It’s got everything from weapon balance adjustments to details on Warzone, and while most of the news focuses on changes to Multiplayer and Zombies, the team made sure to iron out some Campaign wrinkles, too. There’s a laundry list of fixes for players of every shape and size, including those worried about players who want to cheat their way to the top.
One specific area Treyarch took aim at with its Black Ops 6 Season 1 update revolves around what it calls “disruptive behavior.” The team has adjusted ping thresholds to tackle VPN abuse and enhanced AFK detection in hopes of extinguishing boosting in lobbies. These are changes that should help ward off the use of popular exploits like bot lobbies, with additional tweaks to the anti-cheat measures sure to come as more updates arrive. Players will also be required to win 50 match-made Multiplayer matches before they’re allowed to dive into Ranked mode.
It's all about making every aspect of the Black Ops 6 experience authentic, so it’s not shocking to see a bevy of weapon tweaks coming to Multiplayer in Season 1, too. While assault rifles like the XM4, GPR 91, and AMES 85 received general damage buffs across the board, their headshot multipliers have also been reduced. Shotguns users were handed some changes, too, including increased damage multipliers and even more general damage improvements for the Marine SP and ASG-89.
Omnimovement comes to Warzone
Black Ops 6 Season 1 alone comes with a long list of additions that will surely only change more as more content rolls out. Warzone, meanwhile, is an entirely different beast, but the team as Raven Software made sure to go over all of the details in its own post on the Call of Duty website. While things like Area 99 and omnimovement are sure to give fans of the long-running battle royale mode an entirely new hill to climb, there are plenty of other smaller changes here to help iron out the mode, too.
Those same Ricochet anti-cheat measures from Multiplayer will be carried into Warzone, for example. Warzone UI is also getting a massive facelift, which includes a legacy tab for previously unlocked Modern Warfare 2 and 3 customization options, an option to change your mini-map type, and a legacy content filtering system. Treyarch says it also brough back some original Warzone elements, such as equipment icons and armor plate shape.
More Multiplayer maps, modes, skins, and much, much more are coming with Season 1 when it arrives tomorrow. For a breakdown of the highlights, you can check out Treyarch’s roadmap here. You can also learn about some of the wacky Operator bundles, which include shark and racoon cosmetics, that will be available to purchase in the coming weeks.
Finally, you can see the full Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 1 patch notes below.

Ricochet Anti-Cheat

Enhanced AFK detections to battle against account boosting
Adjusting ping thresholds to require players play matches in their region to cut down on VPN abuse
To unlock Ranked Play in Black Ops 6, players will need to win 50 match-made multiplayer matches:
This ensures that players are experienced with multiplayer before they enter the mode and gives #TeamRICOCHET a historical match history to examine before an account enters Ranked Play
#TeamRICOCHET also utilizes its Replay Investigation Tool to monitor replays of top players as part of the investigation process
Detection systems initially deployed at launch from #TeamRICOCHET to collect data to test for effectiveness will be activated to help flag accounts for action beginning with Season 01.
The security system updates listed above will also be active for Ranked Play in Call of Duty®: Warzone™, which launches at mid-season.

Weapons
Throughout the pre-season we have seen a steady and healthy variety of weapon usage. Most weapons sit quite closely in both performance and pick rate, with no weapons dominating in both areas. As such our first round of Season 01 tuning changes will not be introducing any major shifts to the current state of weapon balance, and instead focus on elevating some of the weapons at the bottom of the pack. We are also addressing feedback regarding Assault Rifle damage in Hardcore and completing our adjustments to the shotgun slug attachment.
Reminder: We're using a new Weapon Damage Adjustments tables to identify post-patch damage changes when possible. Need an explainer? Click here!
All Weapons
Adjusted weapon motion while moving and changing stances to improve aiming feel and centering (especially with optics).
Hold Breath focus state will now be maintained while firing if applicable.
Improved Weapon depth of field settings when performing a Weapon Inspect.
Assault Rifles
We are increasing the damage values for some of our Assault Rifles to ensure that they kill in just one bullet in Hardcore modes. The headshot multiplier changes have either kept the bullets to kill with headshots the same or even improved them at some Min Damage Ranges.
Shotguns
Strelok Laser Attachment Adjustments
Increased the time it takes to reach ADS spread from 20% of Aim Down Sight Speed to 70% of Aim Down Sight Speed
Slug Attachment Adjustments
Slugs allow players to run shotguns as mid-range precision weapons. As a tradeoff, they have limited short range effectiveness if you are not carefully hitting headshots
Marksman Rifles
We are adjusting handling stats on the burst rifles so that they fit more squarely into their intended roles. The Swat 5.56 has a slower fire rate within each burst and more recoil, making it better suited for mid-range engagements. Meanwhile the AEK-973 has better stability and precision, but a longer burst delay makes it a riskier pick when playing aggressively. We are also significantly reducing the power of the AEK-973 Rapid Fire, which was too strong not to take.
Sniper Rifles
We have been monitoring feedback on Sniper Rifles and are making some changes to promote more build diversity and improve the sniping experience before gaining access to a complete attachment set. We are lowering the baseline flinch on all Snipers and reducing the Flinch Resistance given by stock attachments. The resulting received flinch values are much lower up front and just a bit lower overall after equipping the stocks. We are also increasing Aim Walking Movement Speed bonuses on stock attachments to make those choices more valuable.
Lastly, we are improving the ADS Idle Sway delay by default on all Snipers, meaning that on average there will be less deviation from your point of aim when entering ADS. Our goal is to support the various sniping playstyles you all enjoy through several viable weapon builds. We will continue to monitor weapon and attachment data as well as your feedback to ensure that all sniping playstyles are fun and rewarding in Black Ops 6.
Sniper Rifle Class Adjustments
All snipers now have 1 second of 50% Idle Sway scaling at the beginning of Aim Down Sight
All snipers have had base Flinch Resistance improved by 17%

Weapon Adjustments
The recent changes to Assault Rifles in Zombies were an unintended carryover from a global weapon tuning pass. We do not intend to inherit all MP weapon tuning without looking at how it affects Zombies tuning as well.
We have corrected this in this update, while also making a pass on increasing the damage performance of ARs in Zombies. All ARs have had their Pack-a-Punched base damage and overall critical damage increased. While you may see the word "decreased" in a few places, the performance for these weapons is still increased overall!
Additionally, the HE-1 Launcher has gotten a buff to become more useful at stopping hordes of zombies. When Pack-a-Punched, it will now have more stock ammo and a larger explosion with more overall damage.

Treyarch has delivered several updates to combat disruptive behavior, including:

WARZONE
MAPS
New Map
Area 99
Season 01 introduces Area 99, a new Warzone map designed by Treyarch and inspired by Nuketown's high-paced gameplay. This map is set in the Nevada desert at the Echo Ridge Weapons Station — a hidden 1950s government site abandoned after a reactor leak. The map offers intense, tactical combat through desert roadways, open trenches, and pipework around a central Reactor “bullseye,” anticipated as the hottest drop zone. Another key point of interest is a massive crane suspending a Nuketown house in the Loading Bay, adding to the map's unique and dynamic environment.

Rebirth Island
The infamous prison island returns during Season 01's playlist with Resurgence Modes, enhanced by Omnimovement, Black Ops 6 weaponry, and Killstreaks for added tactical intensity.

MODES
Returning Modes
Battle Royale
This mode offers the classic Warzone experience, centered around high-risk, high-reward gameplay. You and your squad have only but a few attempts to survive - and the match concludes with one ultimate winner.
• Player Count: 120 (Solos, Duos, Trios, Quads)
• Map: Urzikstan
Resurgence
This mode offers a bit more forgiveness and a whole lot more action. As long as one squad member remains alive, others can redeploy after a countdown. However, once the resurgence window expires, free redeployment is no longer possible for the remainder of the game.
• Player Count: 44 (Solos, Duos, Quads), 45 (Trios)
• Map: Area 99, Rebirth Island
Plunder
This mode is a squad-based mode where accumulating Cash is the main objective. The squad that gathers the most Cash by the end of a timed period - extended into overtime once a squad reaches $2 million - claims victory. Cash can be earned by eliminating players and collecting their valuables, searching ground loot and Supply Boxes, and completing Contracts and in-game events. Operators can start with a custom Loadout and redeploy after each elimination throughout the entire match.
• Player Count: 120
• Map: Urzikstan
Bootcamp
This mode is a Quads-only training mode, allowing players to experience Warzone with up to 20 players and 24 bots. XP progression is limited, and the mode does not contribute to Daily/Weekly Challenges or include public events or advanced contracts.
• Player Count: 44
• Map: Urzikstan
Mode Adjustments
Resurgence
Players will receive an additional 25% discount in the Buy Station on "Redeploy Squadmate" while the Resurgence timer is still active.
PLAYLIST
Additional Note: To celebrate the new Area 99 map, it is the exclusive Resurgence map during the first weekend of launch, with Rebirth Island then returning to the playlist.
For information about upcoming Playlists, please check out the dedicated Warzone Trello Board.
RANKED PLAY
An all-new Ranked Play experience will come to Battle Royale on Urzikstan for the first time with Season 01 Reloaded. Keep an eye open for more intel later this year.
GENERAL
Carry-Forward
Weapons, blueprints, operators and skins, and vast majority of the cosmetics from Modern Warfare II and III will be available to players in the Black Ops 6 era of Warzone.
AFK Detection
We have updated the detection logic to determine if a player is AFK during an active match.
Leaderboards
To accommodate and track the new statistics coming with the Black Ops 6 integration, the Warzone Leaderboard stats will be reset at launch.
ARMORY
The Black Ops 6 Armory (BETA) is a repository that provides access to previously missed Loadout content from prior titles including Modern Warfare II and III. Players can look for and activate an item in the Armory to start earning XP toward unlocking it.
The Armory is unlocked at Player Level 24 and is added to the Level Unlock Menu. This menu serves as a platform to browse items that otherwise cannot be earned through normal weapon progression.
Please note that certain legacy attachments will be missing from the armory at the launch of Season 01. New players seeking to unlock these items can do so by playing the respective legacy title until they are implemented in Black Ops 6 in a future update. Players that have already unlocked this content in previous games are not impacted.
PROGRESSION
Season 01 introduces an extensive progression and Prestige system, with 55 levels of unlocks, 10 Prestige levels, and a final Prestige Mastery tier with 1,000 additional levels. Players unlock weapons, equipment, killstreaks, and perks through progression, with exclusive Calling Cards, animated "Dark Ops" cards, and 10 reticle unlocks per optic. Weapon camos include 9 Military Camos per weapon, 2 Special Camos sharable across modes, and 4 Mastery Camos, including animated designs like Gold Tiger and Abyss. Some rewards are exclusive to Black Ops 6 but can be earned retroactively.
For a deep dive on Progression in Call of Duty Black Ops 6, check out the dedicated blog here.
CAMOS
Weapon Mastery CamosNEW
The Weapon Camo grind has been overhauled in Black Ops 6 and is bigger than ever. You’ll be progressing through Camos on the quest to earn the first ever Call of Duty: Warzone Mastery Camo: Abyss (Season 01).
For a more detailed look at Progression in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone, check out the Launch Comms: Progression Systems blog here.
COMBAT
New Combat
Body Shield
Sneak up behind an unsuspecting enemy and double-tap the melee button to pull them close as your personal shield against incoming fire.
Once they’ve served their purpose, gracefully deliver the coup de grâce.
Body Shield is the spiritual successor to the previous Interrogation mechanic.
Dedicated Melee Weapon
All player loadouts will have a dedicated melee weapon by default, in addition to their primary and secondary weapon slots.
Players can swap to their dedicated melee weapon by holding down the melee button.
Players holding a melee weapon will benefit from unlimited tac sprint.
Shootable Doors
Doors can now be shot open allowing for new tactics and strategy.
Combat Adjustments
Primary Weapon
The Loadout inventory is returning to the classic Warzone experience where players can only equip one Primary weapon.
There is a Wildcard detailed further below that allows for two Primary weapons to be equipped.
Self-Revive Auto Pickup
While downed, players will now be able to automatically loot Self-Revive kits that are within close proximity.
Live Ping Duration
The duration of live pings has been reduced from 3 seconds to 2 in order to bring more balance to a combat engagement.
Armor Plate Replacement Speed
The speed at which players can replace broken or missing armor plates has been increased by 8% to match the fluidity of Black Ops 6 Omnimovement.
Abandon Timer
The time players must wait to give up has been reduced from 5 seconds to 4 seconds due to the previous Interrogation mechanic being replaced.
Deaths Door
The health at which players will enter the death’s door state has been reduced from 50% to 35%.
The health at which the death’s door state will end has been reduced from 70% to 55%.
This change is due to us wanting to enable Players to better hear and see their surroundings when under threat by an enemy.
MOVEMENT
New Movement
Omnimovement
The movement and combat innovations from Black Ops 6 are fully integrated into Warzone. This allows players to Sprint, Slide, and Dive in any direction, perform 180-degree Combat Dives, and execute advanced moves like the Combat Supine and Omni-Sprint for dynamic tactical play.
Combat Supine
Drop to a prone position, then rotate your Operator for a complete 360-degree view of your surroundings. Then fire to eliminate the enemy quickly as they appear, all the while staying in the supine position.
Intelligent Movement
Players can now customize elements of how they traverse landscape and navigate combat.
Available in the Keyboard & Mouse or Controller Options under “Movement,” players will find the following features:
Sprint Assist: Choose whether to manually or automatically sprint, tactically sprint, how much of a delay before sprinting begins, and if the assist occurs while sprinting sideways or backwards.
Mantle Assist: Customize how and when to automatically mantle over obstacles.
Crouch Assist: This enables crouching and sliding when the intent is to move through a valid opening.
Corner Slice: Allows the act of inclining weapons (and camera) when adjacent to or moving around a corner. This doesn’t affect aim. Default is “on.”
Unlimited Tac Sprint
Players will have access to unlimited tac sprint via the Sprinter Perk or by holding their dedicated melee weapon.
Mantle Protection
Players will now climb onto thin or high ledges rather than over them to prevent untimely deaths.
Movement Adjustments
Tac Sprint Duration
We heard feedback around default tac sprint duration, so it has been increased from 2 seconds to 4 seconds.
Landing Tuning
The duration of the shock effect when falling from a near-death height has been reduced to 2.1 seconds from 3 seconds.
The minimum fall damage required before the shock effect from landing is now 55%, up from 50% allowing for slightly higher jumps with less punishment.
This change is made to better enable the movement opportunities that the Black Ops 6 integration allows.
Vertical Ascenders & Horizontal Zipline Improvements Quality of Life
Interacting with the Ascenders and Ziplines lines has been improved, making it easier to attach to the line from an angle or while free falling to increase fluidity.
Redeploy Drones
Redeploy Drones are fixed in place for the duration of a match.
Once a Redeploy Drone has been consumed by the gas, it will leave the map rather than relocating to give a more consistent experience.
INVENTORY
Streamlined Inventory
At the start of Season 01, we're streamlining the inventory system by removing the “Backpack” and returning to a classic inventory layout, organized by sections for cash, gas mask, armor plates, killstreaks, field upgrades, weapons, ammo and perks.
PERKS
Perks in Warzone are now streamlined, allowing players to choose three Perks (one from each color-coded slot) in the Loadouts Menu. Most Pick-3 Perks unlock as you level up but re-lock upon Prestiging. Black Ops 6 player levels carry over to Warzone, unlocking corresponding Perks.
General
Lootable Perks
Lootable Perks return! Each season, players will encounter a number of perks via Ground Loot and Supply Boxes. These perk effects stack on top of the original Pick-3 Perks players have selected in their loadout.
When a player is eliminated, their Pick-3 Perks will drop on the ground as a “Custom Perk Pack” to be recovered or stolen by another player, while any looted perks will disappear.
The Lootable Perks players can find include a mix of perks from the 18 possible Pick-3 Perks, in addition to two perks that are unique to ground loot;
Shrouded
Irradiated
Players will recognize their Pick-3 Perks when they are equipped in the bottom right of the HUD, while lootable perks can be viewed in the Inventory.
Specialist Perk Package
Found as a rare loot drop or Care Package reward, Specialist grants every Perk including all 18 Pick-3 Perks, as well as both Ground Loot exclusive Perks - Irradiated and Shrouded.
If you're eliminated, the Specialist Perk package will disappear.

Many of these Killstreaks are lethal, unleashing devastating airstrikes and explosions that can decimate enemy squads from above. Others are tactical, offering valuable intel on enemy positions or on ideal positioning for upcoming fights. With Black Ops 6, a few new Killstreaks have been introduced designed to give players a real advantage in the heat of battle.

WEAPONS
Introduction
We've expanded the Warzone arsenal to include weapons from the launch of Black Ops 6 in October 2024, giving players even more options to customize their loadouts. Dive into Warzone with these powerful additions, now available alongside fan favorites from previous titles.
At launch, Black Ops 6 weapons in Warzone will share similar values to their Multiplayer counterparts such as ADS speed, sprint to fire, and recoil. However, damage profiles for a number of weapons have been modified to establish a baseline for Warzone. We encourage new and returning players to study their favorite weapon’s details in the Gunsmith.
With the integration of Black Ops 6, we also now have new tuning options for weapons that weren’t previously available, allowing us to adjust aspects like handling (ADS speed and sprint to fire), magazine sizes, recoil, and more. For instance, while the AS VAL has a default magazine size of 20 in Multiplayer, we’ve set it to 30 for Warzone.
Our goal is to make weapon adjustments faster to keep the available selection dynamic and engaging, without making any weapons feel obsolete. With these new tuning options, we aim to refine each weapon’s identity and role specific to their use in Warzone, such as emphasizing Assault Rifles as strong long-range options.
Additionally, all bolt-action snipers and pump-action shotguns (while aiming down sights) from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, and Black Ops 6 will have a one-shot headshot potential within their respective max damage ranges. Additionally, in order to incentivize intentional aim, all shotguns will fire 5 pellets while ADSing versus 4 when fired from the hip.
We want players to feel that weapons from Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III continue to remain solid, viable choices in Warzone. Our goal is to create a unified combat system that makes each gun enjoyable to use, regardless of its origin. We’ll continue to improve legacy weapons and attachments throughout the coming year to further support this vision.
Black Ops 6 Weapons
Black Ops 6 weapons have a unique Warzone damage profile, which includes specific base damage, range, and location-based modifiers.
We’ve adjusted several Black Ops 6 attachments to function differently in Warzone:
CHF Barrel
For Assault Rifles, LMGs, DMRs, SMGs, and Pistols: This now grants an increased neck multiplier rather than a head multiplier.
For Sniper Rifles and Shotguns: This now provides increased leg modifiers instead of arm modifiers.
Flip Magazine
The magazine capacity penalty from Multiplayer has been removed. In Warzone, flip mags match the base weapon's ammo capacity.
Rapid Fire
This attachment now applies a base damage penalty in Warzone, along with greater penalties to bullet velocity and range.
Modern Warfare II & III Weapons
A visual recoil reduction pass has been applied to Modern Warfare II weapons, enhancing their feel and control while shooting.
Barrel and stock attachments from Modern Warfare II have also had their penalties reduced. Additionally, a significant balancing pass has been completed for underbarrel and muzzle attachments from both Modern Warfare II and III. All cons have been removed from these attachments, meaning they now only provide stat boosts, with each subcategory of underbarrels and muzzles functioning identically except for cosmetic differences. AMP attachments in these slots, however, retain their unique functionality and balancing.
Muzzle Enhancements
Suppressors: Boost velocity and damage range.
Comps: Improve recoil control.
Flash Hiders: Increase damage range and firing aim stability.
Breacher: Enhance melee damage and recoil control.
Underbarrel Enhancements
Angled Grip: Increases hipfire and tacstance accuracy and aim walking steadiness.
Handstop: Improves sprint-to-fire and ADS speed.
Vert Grip: Enhances recoil control and firing aim stability.
Furthermore, Modern Warfare II and III weapons now have corner-slicing functionality, adding an extra tactical edge.
Global Weapon Builds
Seamlessly access a custom weapon build you've created across Black Ops 6 Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone. This time-saving feature lets you adjust any Build or Blueprint in one game, with changes automatically applied wherever that weapon is equipped. To create a build, select a base weapon or Blueprint, add attachments and cosmetics in the Gunsmith, and return to the Custom Loadout screen to save it. The build, with all selected customizations, will then appear in other modes under the same weapon type.
New Weapons
These weapons are new to Season 01 and were not part of the original launch of Black Ops 6 Multiplayer in October 2024.
Krig C Assault Rifle
Full-auto assault rifle. High damage and average handling. Recoil pattern starts very controllable before ramping up.
Unlockable via Battle Pass Page 3 HVT Tier Reward OR Page 14 Battle Pass Blueprint
SAUG Submachine Gun
Fully automatic submachine gun. Excellent mobility and good handling. Great rate of fire. High recoil.
Unlockable via Battle Pass Page 3 HVT Tier Reward OR Page 11 Battle Pass Blueprint
Sirin 9mm Special Weapon (In-Season)
Fully automatic specialty weapon. Offers SMG characteristics as a secondary weapon. Slow rate of fire.
Unlockable via Event Reward
Power Drill Melee Weapon (In-Season)
Two-hit kill. Very short range. Very fast attack speed.
Unlockable via Event Reward
New Attachments
These attachments are new to Season 01 and were not part of the original launch of Black Ops 6 in October 2024.
12 Gauge Dragon’s Breath
Add some heat to your Shotgun blasts with incendiary rounds comprised of magnesium sparks that stick to and burn enemies over time. Equipping the 12 Gauge Dragon’s Breath Fire Mod prevents using Barrel Attachments, but the tradeoff is well worth it when seeking a fiery finish.
Compatible with Shotguns
Acquired via Battle Pass Page 7 Reward
Buffer Weight Stock (In-Season)
The heavier Buffer Weight Stock provides significantly smoother action through the additional resistance met by the bolt carrier group. The improvement results in more manageable recoil through sustained fire, ideal for staying on target though at the expense of ADS Speed and Aim Walk Movement Speed.
Compatible with XM4 Assault Rifle, XMG LMG, DM-10 Marksman Rifle
Acquired via Event Reward
Burst Fire Conversion (In-Season)
Convert the XM4 Assault Rifle’s primary firing mode into a three-round burst to help conserve ammo and stay on target. There’s an impressive lack of recoil too, so it’s still possible to pump out consistent damage when facing heavy threats.
Compatible with XM4 Assault Rifle
Acquired via Event Reward
Burst Fire Conversion (In-Season)
Convert the Kompakt 92 SMG’s primary firing mode into an exceptionally rapid three-round burst. Equipping the Burst Fire Conversion Fire Mod locks the Underbarrel and Barrel Attachment slots. When you need to fire quickly in close quarters, hold down the trigger to automatically cycle through burst shots.
Compatible with Kompakt 92 SMG
Acquired via Event Reward
Weapon Adjustments
The following weapon adjustments are strictly limited to Modern Warfare II and III weapons. It's a lot.
Future patch notes for Black Ops 6 weapons will follow the table format introduced with the launch of Black Ops 6.

Added Black Ops 6 items including:
Weapons
Field Equipment: War Cry, Scrambler
Killstreaks: Napalm Strike, Sentry Gun, SAM Turret, Care Package
Lethals: Throwing Axe, Blast Trap, Impact Grenade, Spring Mine
The loot distribution system will now create further space for larger items as they are dropped to the ground to avoid overlapping loot.
The loot distribution system will now purposely avoid dropping items near objects in close proximity such as Buy Stations.
Medical CabinetsQuality of Life
Loot that drops out of medical cabinets now drops within closer proximity of its origin.
Buy Stations
Buy Station inventory and prices have had slight adjustments with the Black Ops 6 integration.
Weapon Outlines Quality of Life
Weapons now have rarity outlines to help players better evaluate the options at their disposal throughout a match.
CONTRACTS
Available Contracts
Below is a summary of each contract type to help both new and returning players quickly grasp how each one functions with the integration of Black Ops 6. These summaries cover key objectives, mechanics, and rewards, making it easier for players to jump in and engage with contracts confidently.
Bounty
When you pick up a Bounty contract, a nearby player will be selected as your target. A circle will appear on your tac map, periodically updating to show the target’s location. The target will be somewhere within this circle each time it updates, and the circle gradually shrinks as you move closer. The target can also see an indicator on their HUD showing how close the closest player from your hunting team is; this is displayed as a three-level "threat indicator." Completing the contract by killing the target rewards cash, XP, and a singular ping from the bounty target’s body. If another team kills the target, your contract ends with a "poached" outcome, offering a lesser reward. Allowing the timer to run out or losing your team will fail the contract.
Big Game Bounty
This contract works similarly to the base Bounty but with a few twists. It only spawns after Circle 2 closes and prioritizes teams with the highest cumulative kills, provided they’re not already bounty targets. If you complete this contract by eliminating the target, you’ll earn an immediate advanced UAV ping along with extra cash and XP, offering greater rewards than a standard Bounty.
Scavenger
Upon picking up a Scavenger contract, three scavenger caches will spawn near the pickup spot. You’ll be directed to each cache one at a time, with the next cache revealed only after you open the previous one. Opening a cache adds 45 seconds to the contract timer. These caches contain slightly better loot than usual, and each will drop a lootable perk. Opening the third and final cache completes the contract, rewarding your team with cash, XP, and an armor satchel from the last cache. Failing to open all caches before time runs out, or having your team wiped, will fail the contract.
Intel
When you accept an Intel contract, a nearby upload station will be marked for your team to upload sensitive intel. Reaching the station and interacting with it initiates an "upload" phase where one team member must remain near the station until the upload is complete. If multiple players are in this radius, the upload speed can increase by up to 200%. Completing the upload rewards cash, XP, and a peek at the next circle’s location. Failure occurs if the timer expires or if your team is wiped.
Most Wanted
By picking up the Most Wanted contract, you or the team member who picked it up becomes visible on the map for all players. Opponents who kill the Most Wanted target receive cash and XP, while the Most Wanted team can reduce their contract time by obtaining kills and opening loot caches (10-second reduction per cache, 25-second reduction per kill). If the Most Wanted target survives the full contract duration, the contract is completed, and the team earns cash, XP, and revives any dead squad members. Whether the contract ends in success or failure, a "VIP reward crate" appears near the VIP’s location, containing ammo, plates, a killstreak, a weapon, a Gulag token, and cash.
Signals Intelligence
This contract directs your team to hack nearby contracts for rewards. The nearest contract will be marked for hacking, although you can hack any contract. The number of contracts required depends on team size: solos and duos hack one, while trios and quads hack two. Hacking all required contracts completes the mission, rewarding your team with XP and ten periodic cash payments. Letting time run out or losing your team results in failure.
Spy Drone
This contract spawns multiple drones in a circle formation near your team. The number of drones varies with team size—solos face five, duos six, trios seven, and quads eight. Destroy all drones to complete the contract and earn cash, XP, a UAV, and redeploy drone beacon from the last drone. Failure results if time expires or your team is wiped out.
Elite Contracts
These are tougher versions of existing contracts, offering higher rewards. Elite Contracts reduce the contract time by 45% and reward an additional 1,500 cash on completion. Completing an Elite Contract also drops a reward crate with items, including an ammo pile, armor plate, ultra-rare weapon, and one of several rare items such as a UAV, redeploy drone beacon, deployable kiosk, or, with low probability, a Specialist or Foresight. Note that Most Wanted contracts cannot become Elite, although other contracts might turn Elite as the match progresses.
Contract Adjustments
Bounty
Completing the contract now includes finishing downed targets you didn’t down yourself.
Bounty contracts should no longer start without a valid target.
"Poached" end state now counts as a contract failure for challenge tracking.
Most Wanted
Removed the redeploy token from the Most Wanted reward crate in solos.
Scavenger
The primary reward in Battle Royale and Resurgence is now an armor plate carrier.

As part of the Alienware Early Black Friday Sale, you can save as much as $700 off select Alienware m18 R2 gaming laptop configurations. Pricing starts at $1,899.99 for the RTX 4070 model and $2,899.99 for the RTX 4090 model.
The Alienware m18 is the biggest and most powerful Alienware laptop you can buy. It's clearly designed to be a mobile desktop replacement and, equipped with the right specs (like the RTX 4090 mobile GPU), it has the potential to be more powerful than most dedicated gaming desktop PCs.
Alienware m18 R2 RTX 4090 Gaming Laptop
The Alienware m18 "R2" model is the 2024 update to Alienware's flagship gaming laptop. The only changes from the prior year model are the transition to Intel's 14th gen HX processors and Wi-Fi 7 support. The Alienware m18 boasts exceptional build quality with a premium bead-blasted anodized aluminum chassis, full-sized keyboard with numpad, and an aggressive Cryo-Tech cooling sytem that incorporates a vapor chamber with quad heatpipes and four exhaust fans.
Depending on which configuration you choose, your laptop will be equipped with a 18" 2560x1600 QHD+ or 1920x1200 FHD+ display, Intel Core i9-14900HX CPU, GeForce RTX 4070 or 4090 (mobile) GPU, 32GB-64GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 2TB-4TB NVMe SSD. The 14th generation Intel Core i9-14900HX processor holds 24 cores and 32 threads with a max turbo clock speed of 5.8GHz. Currently, you won't find a better Intel mobile chip. In fact, it's actually more powerful than any of the recently released Intel Core Ultra 9 CPUs.
The RTX 4070 mobile GPU has a maximum TGP wattage of 140W (115W + 25W dynamic boost). Performance-wise, the RTX 4070 is on par with the RTX 3080 but with newer features like DLSS 3.0. This is a very capable GPU that should be able to run any game at playable framerates just fine on the QHD+ display.
The RTX 4090 mobile GPU has a maximum TGP wattage of 165W (150W + 15W dynamic boost). This is still the most powerful mobile GPU on the market, and by a very substantial margin. It's roughly equivalent to a desktop RTX 3090 GPU. It can easily run any game on the 2560x1600 or 1920x1200 display as well as any externally connected higher resolution gaming monitor. In fact, this is the only mobile GPU I'd personally recommend for 4K gaming. A GPU this powerful requires a lot of power, so the laptop includes a hefty 330W power brick. If this is going to be your primary gaming rig and you don't want to be limited by portablity, then there's no better choice than the 4090.

With the release of Absolute Batman #1, DC has officially kicked off the Absolute Universe. Similar to Marvel's Ultimate Universe line, the Absolute Universe is devoted to exploring streamlined, modernized versions of iconic heroes, free from the constraints of decades of existing continuity. And if we've learned anything from the first two issues, it's that Absolute Batman is a very, very different hero from the Dark Knight we know and love.
Just what has changed for the Absolute Universe? How does the new series reinvent Batman for 2024? Here's a look at everything that's changed in this twisted new version of the DC Universe.
Warning: beware of full spoilers for Absolute Batman #1 and #2 ahead!
Batman's New Origin Story
One of the hallmarks of the Absolute Universe is that characters like Batman and Superman lack many of the innate advantages they have in the traditional DCU. In the case of Bruce Wayne, he's no longer a billionaire playboy with a mansion, a butler, and a cave full of expensive gadgets. He's a blue-collar civil engineer from a humble background.
Over the course of issue #1, we get the rundown on Batman's revamped origin story as seen through the eyes of Alfred Pennyworth (more on him in a minute). Bruce's father Thomas was a schoolteacher rather than a doctor. Bruce himself tested at near-genius levels as a child, eventually winning a science competition where he invented a portable, retractable bridge to be used in rescue scenarios. As a prize, Bruce and his class were given a field trip to the Gotham City Zoo.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck when a gunman opened fire at the zoo. Thomas ushered his students to safety before being caught in the crossfire. That's the trauma that birthed the Batman, and we have to assume Bruce carries some guilt for his father's death with him even now.
Issue #2 offers more insight into how that trauma birthed the Batman. We see another flashback to zoo shooting, where a stray bullet rips open a hole in the bat exhibit. Bruce is engulfed by bats, and he remains catatonic until Jim Gordon arrives and hears him scream. This Bruce Wayne clearly has a deep-seated fascination with and terror of bats.
Issue #1 offers some insight into the training Bruce underwent to prepare himself to become a vigilante. After earning a college football scholarship (and promptly faking a career-ending injury), Bruce studied chemistry, engineering, criminal psychology, and other subjects relevant to punching crime in the face. While he didn't travel the world studying under the greatest warriors and detectives, he has developed a unique streetfighting style based in mixed martial arts and boxing. And by working as a civil engineer in various locales across Gotham, Bruce has developed an intimate knowledge of the city he hopes to save.
Bruce Wayne's Friend Group
One of the most intriguing changes introduced in Absolute Batman #1 involves Bruce Wayne's friend group. We learn that Bruce's childhood gang included Harvey Dent, Selina Kyle, Waylan Jones, Eddie Nashton, and Oswald Cobblepot. Even now, they remain friends, though Bruce is rapidly drifting away from the group as his nightly activities start to consume his life.
What does it mean that so many of the characters destined to become supervillains start out as Bruce's close friends? Have their destinies changed in the Absolute Universe, or will we see Waylan become Killer Croc, Eddie become the Riddler, etc?
The only one of these characters we meet in issue #1 is Waylan, who currently runs the boxing gym Bruce trains at and shows no sign of the reptilian skin condition the character is so well-known for. Waylan looks to be the best friend Bruce has. Will that change as the series moves along?
Issue #2 showcases more of this friend group, as the increasingly reclusive Bruce makes a rare visit to their regular poker game. Their banter reveals that Eddie is every bit as fascinated with riddles and wordplay as the regular Riddler, while it's hinted that Oswald already has his fingers in some less than savory pies. Harvey, meanwhile, is revealed to be a lowly law clerk with major career ambitions. The only friend MIA from this game is Selina, who is said to be travelling the globe and recently made a stop in Cairo.
Alfred Pennyworth: Secret Agent
Bruce may not have a butler, but that hardly means Alfred has no role to play in the series. Issue #1 is narrated from Alfred's perspective. In the Absolute Universe, Alfred is a secret agent for a mysterious organization (it's unclear if he's working for the British government or an agency like ARGUS). He's pulled off a mission monitoring a mysterious killer overseas in order to gather intel on the growing crisis in Gotham. A gang called The Party Animals has been massacring innocent civilians, and Alfred's handlers want to know what exactly they're dealing with.
Alfred is warned that another party has begun to make itself known in the city, the first sign that Batman is beginning to appear on the public's radar. Alfred later encounters Batman in person when observing an attack by The Party Animals. Alfred's orders are to observe and not to engage the gangmembers, one he strongly disagrees with. Already, the seeds of the eventual Batman/Alfred alliance are beginning to be laid.
Batman is more of an antagonistic figure to Alfred in issue #1, even stealing the secret agent's motorcycle and all of its valuable intel. Alfred, for his part, immediately deduces Batman's secret identity. While he considers assassinating Bruce in broad daylight, he decides "You're just a **** kid."
In issue #2, it becomes clear that Alfred is quickly developing an affection for Bruce/Batman, in part because his war on the Party Animals is making Alfred's intel-gathering mission much easier. Alfred traces Batman's campaign across the city. He notes that while most soldiers in the field follow one of two tactics, AF (advance forward) and RR (retreat and regroup), Batman never seems willing to retreat or give ground. He's simply Batman AF.
The Gordon Family
No new Batman universe would be complete without Jim Gordon playing a part. Issue #1 gives no indication to assume Batman and Gordon are working together yet, but it does cast Gordon as the rare good cop trying to maintain order in a city rapidly descending into chaos. But in this case, Gordon isn't Commissioner of the GCPD, but rather the recently elected mayor of Gotham. His daughter Barbara, meanwhile, is a police officer.
Gordon holds a press conference to ease public concerns over the growing threat of The Party Animals. However, that plan hits a snag when the gang attacks in the middle of the conference and Gordon himself is shot.
Issue #2 reconnects with the Gordon family in the hospital, as Jim recovers and laments the fact that his reelection chances are slipping away.
The Rise of Black Mask
It quickly becomes clear that the first costumed supervillain the Absolute Batman will face off against isn't Joker, Penguin, or Riddler, but Black Mask. Roman Sionis is introduced as the leader of The Party Animals and a man obsessed with collecting death masks of famous celebrities and political figures.
Sionis holds a meeting with Gotham City crime bosses Sal Maroni and Carmine Falcone, both of whom are wary of this upstart upending the traditional order in the city's underworld. Sionis wastes little time before revealing that he's already made death masks of Maroni and Falcone's relatives and adding both men to his collection.
Traditionally, Batman's early months on the job are spent waging war on the Gotham mob, before power slowly shifts in favor of villains like Joker and Penguin. In the Absolute Universe, however, it seems that shift is already happening. A new generation of evil is emerging in the city and consuming the old.
The New Batsuit in Action
The reader and Alfred alike are treated to the first glimpse of the new Batman in action when the Dark Knight arrives to battle the Party Animal members attacking Gordon's press conference. If there's one takeaway from this fight, it's that Absolute Batman has a lot of nifty toys despite not having a billionaire's resources.
Nearly every component of Batman's costume is a weapon in its own right. His cowl's ears and his gloves' spikes are retractable daggers. His bulletproof cape is a modified version of the same portable bridge he designed as a child, allowing him to control the various wings at will.
Even the Bat emblem is a potent weapon. Not only is it a reinforced piece of steel plating protecting Bruce's chest, it can be removed and attached to a handle to form a razor-sharp ax. The Party Animal leader learns that the hard way when he loses his hand in a duel.
The Gigantic Absolute Batmobile
In issue #2 we see the Batmobile in action for the first time. And like everything else about Batman in this universe, it's oversized and amped up to 11.
Batman hits a snag in this chapter when he breaks into the campaign offices of the former Mayor Ford and investigates a clandestine project known only as ArkM. Batman is interrupted by Black Mask, who reveals he's just summoned the entirety of the GCPD to Batman's location. Batman plunges down an elevator shaft and runs into Alfred, who proposes an alliance. Batman agrees to hear him out, but first they have to make their escape. That's when Batman summons a Batmobile so enormous it dwarfs the Tumbler and even the Bat-Tank from The Dark Knight Returns.
This Batmobile appears to be a modified mining vehicle. Though this Bruce Wayne isn't a billionaire, his work as a civil engineer clearly gives him access to the equipment he needs to wage war on crime.
The Fate of Martha Wayne
The flashbacks to Bruce's tragic childhood reveal that Thomas Wayne died protecting his students at the zoo. But what about Martha Wayne? It turns out she's still alive and well. Bruce pays his mother a visit after laying a flower at the site of his father's murder, even as Alfred watches from afar. Later, in issue #2 Martha herself visits Jim Gordon in the hospital, establishing that the Wayne and Gordon families have a warm, long-standing relationship.
This may well be the biggest and most significant change introduced in Absolute Batman. Bruce Wayne has always been portrayed as an orphan dedicated to preventing what happened to him from happening to anyone else. How much does it change the equation for Bruce to have a mother who raised him to adulthood? At the very least, this means Absolute Batman has something to lose should his secret identity ever be revealed.
Teasing Absolute Joker
Absolute Batman #1 ends with an epilogue page teasing the debut of Batman's most iconic foe. Alfred's handlers report that the man he had been tracking overseas vanished in the Phillipines. Known by many names like Jack and Arthur, this man trained under elite killers like Henri Ducard and the League of Assassins before murdering them and moving on. He's one of the richest men in the world. He never laughs, hence why he's come to be known ironically as the Joker.
If Joker is meant to be the twisted antithesis of Batman, then it's clear the Clown Prince of Crime has been reworked to suit this darker, grittier take on the Caped Crusader. Joker is everything this Batman isn't. He's a man of wealth and privelege. He's traveled the globe and honed himself into the perfect warrior. And it's only a matter of time before he comes to Gotham and tests himself against the Batman. Will the Dark Knight be the one to finally make the Joker crack a smile? We'll find out as the series continues to unfold.
