Fallout Season 2 Filming Halted Due to LA Fires

Production on some of Hollywood's biggest shows, including the next season of Fallout, have come to a screeching halt after several major fires broke out across Los Angeles county.

Variety reports that filming permits across fire-stricken areas have been withdrawn, which means that the re-start of production for Fallout Season 2 has been potponed, though just until Friday. NBCUnviersal says that production Hacks, Loot, Ted, Suits: LA, and Happy's Place have been suspendended as well.

Elsewhere, CBS has halted production on NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and After Midnight, while Disney has paused Doctor Odyssey, Grey's Anatomy, and Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Lastly, Warner Bros. studio in Burbank was closed, affecting Abbot Elementary among other shows.

Amazon will be looking to get Fallout up and running soon as the first season was a surprise hit for the streamer, and maybe even for fans who were not provided with a lot of details about the show before it premiered.

Produced by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy of Westworld fame, Fallout tells an original story in the post-apocalyptic RPG series following three characters: Vault Dweller Lucy MacLean, Brotherhood of Steel squire Maximus, and Cooper Howard, a ghoul who survived The War that destroys America.

Fallout recorded 65 million viewers in the first 16 days, becoming the second most-watched show on Prime Video behind The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The show kicked off a renewed interest in a new Fallout game, though Bethesda themselves are committed on a new Elder Scrolls game first.

Check out IGN's full review of the first season and we'll hope that production can resume quickly for these shows.

Get a 10,000mAh Power Bank Capable of Fast Charging a Nintendo Switch for Under $13

Here's a great opportunity to score a battery backup for your Nintendo Switch at a super low price. Amazon is offering two INIU branded power banks at just over $10:

INIU power banks generally have very good reviews and are considerably less expensive than equivalent Anker models. These two models have the same battery capacity and power delivery output, but the $11.58 model has two USB Type-C and one USB Type-A ports. The $12.58 model has one USB Type-C and two USB Type-A ports and a battery indicator.

INIU 10,000mAh 22.5W Power Banks

There are two reasons why these power banks serve as great battery backups for your Nintendo Switch console: capacity and charging rate. A 10,000mAh (37Whr) power bank can charge a Nintendo Switch OLED from completely empty to full about 1.9 times while still managing a slim footprint. Provided you fully charge your Switch from the get-go, that nearly triples your total playtime. Both power banks also boast a 22.5W charging output over USB Type-C. The Nintendo Switch console accepts a maximum charging rate of 18W, which is the charging rate of the official Nintendo charger.

With a power bank this small, you don't need to worry about being stopped at airports. The 10,000mAh capacity is well below TSA's 27,000mAh carry-on limit. Both power banks also also low-profile enough that no one will take notice in the first place. If a TSA official actually does take the initiative to test the wattage, you are well in the clear.

Creature Commandos Season 1 Finale Exclusive Clip

IGN can exclusively reveal a sneak peek at the seventh and final episode of the first season of Creature Commandos, which premieres on Max on Thursday, January 9th.

The clip can be watched via the player above or the embed below.

The season finale – titled "A Very Funny Monster” and written and executive produced by DC Studios co-CEO/co-chairman James Gunn and directed by Matt Peters – presents Nina Mazursky’s (voiced by Zoe Chao) origin story while also finding Princess Ilana (Maria Bakalova) attempting to escape death at the hands of the Creature Commandos once and for all.

In addition to Chao’s Nina, our exclusive clip from the season finale also features Alan Tudyk’s Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma’s The Bride, and Sean Gunn’s Weasel.

The series boasts a stellar voice ensemble that includes Steve Agee as Economos, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Creature Commandos was recently renewed for Season 2. In his spoiler-free Creature Commandos Season 1 review, IGN’s Tyler Roberston said the show “gracefully fulfills its duties as the bridge between the old DCEU and the new DCU, while also telling a rock solid story all its own. James Gunn’s classic recipe of lovable weirdos, great music, and lots of jokes and violence is on full display, but in a new, fresh way that’s presented well in animation.”

'I Didn't Expect This Much Media Attention' — We Saw Genki's CES Nintendo Switch 2 Mockup, Here's What They Had to Say

It's been a heck of a start to the week for Nintendo fans. A combination of the start of a new year and the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has resulted in an absolute flood of Nintendo Switch 2 rumors, predictions, and seeming leaks. Most interesting of all of them is a mockup of a supposed Switch 2 from accessories maker Genki that's being shown off at the convention that seems to be based on real knowledge of the real system. We were curious, so IGN met up with Genki to see what we could learn.

For some context, the Switch 2 mockup from Genki is allegedly based on a real Switch 2 system that Genki has seen and used as the basis for its accessories. A report from French publication Numerama offered some potential details shared by Genki, which included verifying rumors of an optical sensor on the Joy-Con and showing off the magnetic clips that attach those Joy-Cons to the system. Genki even posted a video to its own website showing off a render of the system. The accessories company claims it's releasing in April.

IGN visited Genki's booth at CES today and spoke with a Genki representative while examining their Switch mock-up. The representative expressed surprise at all the fervor over their mock-up, saying they felt that all the information about the Switch 2 had already leaked and Genki wasn't saying anything new. "I didn't expect this much media attention, to be honest," they said. While Genki's mock-up does appear to add significant weight to a growing pool of past leaks on what the Switch 2 will be, it's worth noting that Nintendo still has not officially revealed anything about the system, and all these claims are subject to change or total debunking. A formal announcement is expected in the first quarter of this year, per Nintendo.

While the Genki representative did not know the technical specs of the Switch 2 or anything about the motherboard, they did say they could attest to "physically what's there, what's pressable and what's not."

They again confirmed the Joy-Cons attaching to the system via magnets on the system side and metallic SL/SR buttons on the Joy-Cons that can be released via a button on the back of each Joy-Con.

The Genki representative stated that the new console looks like it can physically fit in an old Nintendo Switch dock, but certain indentations seem to prevent it from actually being usable in the dock itself. Additionally, while current Joy-Cons won't physically attach to the sides of the new Switch, the Genki spokesperson said the company is "assuming" they will still work as wireless controllers, stating that other accessories manufacturers are banking on that capability.

Unfortunately, the representative said they didn't have any information on a new "C" button present on their mock-up of the right Joy-Con. They said there had been some rumors among accessories manufacturers about it being camera-related, but could not verify the actual function and did not know if the Switch 2 possessed a camera at all.

Finally, the representative stated there is an extra USB port at the top of the Switch 2, which they claimed could be used for handheld charging "at minimum." They could not verify if the Switch was dockable upside down.

We brought a tape measure to the meeting, so we were able to check out the dimensions of Genki's mockup. Per our measurements, the Switch 2 is 10.5" wide, 4.5" tall, .5" thick and has an 8" screen. Compare that to the current Nintendo Switch OLED model, which is 9.5" wide, 4" tall, .5" thick, and has a 7" screen.

Genki's mock-up seems to jive with most of the recent rumors and allegedly leaks about Nintendo's upcoming new system, all of which seem to be converging on the notion of it being a bigger, more powerful Nintendo Switch system with some slight differences in shape. Along with Genki's information, we've also seen leaked images of a supposed new Joy-Con from Chinese social media that match up with the mock-up we saw, and a leaked image of alleged internal components. Given the rapid pace of increasingly believable leaks and rumors, it's possible an official Switch 2 announcement is imminent - but we won't know until Nintendo emerges from behind the curtain and makes it a reality.

In the meantime, you can catch up with everything we saw at CES 2025 right here.

Marvel Rivals Dev Confirms Nerfs and Buffs Coming With Season 1 Balance Changes

Marvel Rivals Season 1 balance changes are nearly here, and NetEase Games has revealed details that promise tweaks for popular heroes like Captain America, Cloak & Dagger, and Jeff the Land Shark.

The team detailed its reasoning for the buffs and nerfs that will soon be delivered with version 20250110 in a post on its website. Despite having launched only last month, NetEase says it’s happy with the “vibrant diversity of lineups” it has seen this far but still sees some room for improvement.

“Hence, in the first half of Season 1, we are set to make balance adjustments to certain heroes, enabling a broader roster to partake in more intricate gameplay, ensuring a richer, more engaging, and diverse gaming experience for all,” the team explained.

Some of the balance tweaks arriving in the first half of Marvel Rivals Season 1 include slight nerfs to a few of the more dominant heroes in the roster. Hulk’s Indestructible Guard gamma shield is going from 250 to 200 health, while Hela will be hit with a base health reduction that brings her from 275 to 250. Hawkeye is also getting a decrease to his medium-long range damage alongside a slight increase to his close combat resistance. Then there's Luna Snow, whose ultimate ability will now take longer to switch from damage to healing.

The list of heroes set to benefit from buffs, meanwhile, is quite long, with Cloak & Dagger, Storm, Punisher, Moon Knight, and more due improvements in some form. Captain America is getting some of the more substantial balance adjustments, with NetEase aiming to enhance his survivability. Jeff’s Joyful Splash healing is also getting an increase from 140/s to 150/s, while the team has also moved to make his ultimate ability warning marker line up better with its actual radius.

Marvel Rivals Season 1 launches this Friday, January 10. In an X/Twitter post, NetEase announced that a maintenance period will begin tomorrow, January 9, starting from 11pm to 1.10am PST. Servers go offline during this time, with the team warning that server return times may vary based on progress.

Alongside today’s patch notes, NetEase revealed what it is calling the Hero Hot List, a stat page that details pick and win rates for heroes across console and PC quickplay and competitive matches. It’s a list that will almost certainly change with Season 1 not only because of the balance adjustments but the introduction of four new heroes with the Fantastic Four. Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman start things off with the first half of the season, with The Thing and Human Torch set to arrive in the second half.

You can read the full balance changes planned to arrive in the first half of Marvel Rivals Season 1 below.

Better Man Review

The setup of Better Man is conventional. Like Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, this biopic from The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey wades through the early hardships, romantic discord, and various controversies of a British pop star – in this case, Robbie Williams. Yet it’s also a jukebox musical with so much exuberant punch, pain, and ingenuity that it feels quite unlike any you might have seen before – thanks in large part to rendering its “Angels”-singing subject as a CGI chimpanzee in a world otherwise occupied by live-action homo sapiens. You might think, as I did, "Why the gimmick?" As Williams points out in an affable voiceover, the former teen idol bad boy has long regarded himself as a "less evolved" being. He even penned a song called "Me and My Monkey" to describe his coke-addled stage persona; the film spends a considerable amount of time acquainting us with this side of Williams during his rise to fame, first in the 1990s with boy band Take That and later in the ’00s as a solo artist.

The fact that we're seeing this digital chimp snort his way through live shows and band break-up meetings, rather than a human actor, certainly makes the bleaker elements of Better Man an easier pill to swallow. Yet there's nothing primitive about the emotions Jonno Davies and Asmara Feik are able to convey through the exquisite performance capture technology of the Wētā FX team (of Lord of the Rings fame). With Williams lending his singing vocals too, the result is a flawless characterization of a working-class boy done good, bad, ugly, and good again – complete with immaculate North-of-England accent work and vulgarity-filled humor, to boot.

That god-tier level of seamlessness is reflected everywhere in the film, especially in the evocative musical numbers. Williams' ballad "Feel" is set against the kitchen-sink backdrop of Stoke-on-Trent circa 1982, where young Robert (played by Feik and voiced by Carter J. Murphy) beautifully croons "I just want to feel real love" as he watches his flaky dad Peter (stunningly portrayed by Steve Pemberton) ditch the family for a life of cabaret. The number transitions into a revolving two-shot of a father-son duet Robert heartbreakingly imagines using the comb and velvet jacket Peter leaves behind.

This abandonment serves as the catalyst for Robbie's self-destruction, self-loathing, and desperate need to be famous, a core wound mended and broken through breathtaking musical sequences depicting his volatile split from Take That ("Come Undone") and bittersweet romance with All Saints star Nicole Appleton ("She's The One"). It culminates in a roaring rendition of "Let Me Entertain You" as Williams’ famous three-night stand at the 2003 Knebworth Festival becomes a hauntingly violent skirmish between the singer and thousands of his past selves. The camera zooms maniacally across the red-tinged battlefield as ash rains down and longswords, axes, and daggers clash.

No scene, however, delivers on the film's promise "to give you a right-f**king entertaining" like when London's Regent Street becomes the stage for a mind-blowing, “Rock DJ”-soundtracked tour through the musical history of Take That. The synchronization of so many deep-cut aesthetic choices – from the rain-soaked “Back for Good” video to the matching blue teddy-boy suits they wore to the 1994 Brit Awards – with dynamic choreography and supremely polished editing, ensure this sequence sings in perfect harmony.

These musical numbers push the story forward in rip-roaring fashion, yet the script is as much rooted in Williams’ familial ties and Peter popping in and out of his son's life. As Robert's grandmother, Alison Steadman breathes gorgeous light and pathos into her hometown scenes with Davies. Pemberton might be best known for the dark comedy series The League of Gentleman, but the dramatic verve he imbues Peter with proves poignant and devastating throughout Better Man – especially during a quietly stirring final act at the Royal Albert Hall.

Better Man is a jukebox musical with so much exuberant punch, pain, and ingenuity.

With Better Man, Gracey has transformed Williams' life, music, and demons into a thunderous cinematic spectacle. But its ultimate success is down to its sensitive ability to remain grounded in the emotional reality of a man striving to find love for the little lad who used to watch Frank Sinatra and The Two Ronnies with his nan on the telly. That it does so while that man and lad are both portrayed by an ape made of 1s and 0s is all the more incredible.

Marvel Rivals Hero Stats Reveal Pick and Win Rates in Quickplay and Competitive Modes

NetEase Games has unveiled a Hero Hot List for Marvel Rivals, revealing pick and win rates for everyone from Jeff the Land Shark and Mantis to Storm and Spider-Man.

It’s a straightforward list of every playable character in the massively popular hero shooter that gives players more insight into which Marvel icons are being picked over the others. You probably won’t be too surprised to see Jeff leading the pack as the number-one pick across PC and console quickplay games. He’s sitting at 21.18% pick rate, with Venom in second at 19.09% and Cloak & Dagger in third at 18.81%. At the opposite end of the list, we find Storm, with only 1.66% of players choosing to smite opponents with her weather abilities in quickplay.

Pick rates for competitive, meanwhile, tell a slightly different story. Pop-centric healer and Strategist Luna Snow tops the pick rate list at 20.66%, with Jeff still cracking the top 10 in seventh with 13.86%. The tough-to-handle Storm remains at the bottom in competitive games at just 0.69% on PC, while Black Widow sits in last with 0.79% in competitive console matches. It also seems that the Strategist and Vanguard roles remain equally popular among players regardless of mode or platform.

Concrete numbers for Marvel Rivals show NetEase is willing to be a bit more transparent about how fans are choosing to engage with the roster, but many will likely find little surprise in the pick rate list. Jeff, specifically, has proven to be quite the punching bag for the community since launch arrived last month. This adorable dog shark has terrorized enemy teams with his It’s Jeff! Ultimate ability, which sees him swallowing multiple enemies and, usually, sending them hurtling to their deaths. He’s relatively easy to get a handle on, so it’s never been a surprise to see him show up in a match.

Win rates, on the other hand, reveal that Marvel Rivals has been a mostly even experience regardless of which hero players dive into battle with. While nearly every character hovers around a 50% win rate regardless of game mode, Jeff actually finds himself on the lower end of the spectrum at 45.39% of matches won in quickplay and 44.38% in competitive. It’s actually Mantis who brings home the most consistent victories, with 56% of games won in quickplay and 55.20% won in competitive.

Some of these stats may give players clues as to how NetEase will push forward when it comes to future balance changes. That said, those pick rates will certainly change once Season 1 introduces new maps, modes, and characters, such as the Fantastic Four, starting this Friday, January 10. Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman kick things off starting this week, with The Thing and Human Torch set to arrive halfway through the season.

While we wait for more updates to swoop in, you can read up on why we gave Marvel Rivals and 8/10 in our review. Keep an eye on the latest Marvel Rivals codes for free skins, and vote on the strongest Marvel Rivals characters in our community tier list.

If you're even slightly interested in getting your hands on the new 2025 Galaxy S25 smartphone, there's no reason not to reserve. Since this isn't a pre-order, you don't have to place any kind of deposit, and there's no commitment to buy.

Although Samsung is tight-lipped about the details, we can infer that the new Galaxy S phones will be dubbed "S25" (last year's series was the S24) and will very likely come in its usual three variants: the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra, with a potential fourth model – the Galaxy S25 "Slim" – unveiled as well.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra was our favorite Android phone of 2024. In our Galaxy S24 Ultra review review, Jacqueline Thomas wrote that "the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is an incredible smartphone. It might look like yet another Galaxy device, but its titanium chassis and powerful processor makes this a durable gaming phone that can outrace the best of them."

The less expensive Galaxy S24 Plus was also a solid winner in our books. In our Galaxy S24 Plus review, Mark Knapp wrote that "the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the best Android phone you can buy right now, but at $1,299, it really needs to be. This is not only the fastest gaming phone you can buy today, but with its premium titanium chassis, it might just be the most durable. Samsung is sweetening the deal a bit by adding a huge variety of AI tools, but many of them will probably be forgotten after you've been using the phone for a while. Still, don't let that get you down: If you want a premium Android phone in 2024, it's hard to imagine getting anything else.

Since the Galaxy S25 will be Samsung's new flagship phone, we expect improvements across the board. Galaxy S phones are well-known for excellent build quality and premium aesthetic, powerful components, and a best-in-class camera. The incorporation of AI has been at the forefront of CES 2025 and I expect Samsung to follow suit with its own Galaxy AI algorithm. Rumors abound but concrete details are still thin. We will all find out soon enough, and if the phone beats expectations, you'd be glad that you reserved in advance.

George R.R. Martin Adaptation Starring Dave Bautista, In the Lost Lands, Gets Official Trailer

In the Lost Lands, a film adaptation of a George R.R. Martin short story starring Dave Bautista, has received a wild official trailer.

Guardian of the Galaxy actor Bautista stars alongside Milla Jovovich while Resident Evil director Paul W. S. Anderson directs. In the Lost Lands is based on a short story of the same name and the trailer lists a theatrical release "this winter," though Martin himself said March 7 in his latest blog post.

From the mind of George R.R. Martin, #InTheLostLands starring Dave Bautista and Milla Jovovich is only in theaters March 7. Watch the official trailer now. pic.twitter.com/WffigMtM4G

— In the Lost Lands (@lostlandsmovie) January 8, 2025

"A Queen sends the powerful and feared sorceress Gray Alys to the ghostly wilderness of the Lost Lands in search of a magical power, where the sorceress and her guide, the drifter Boyce, must outwit and outfight man and demon," the synopsis reads.

Jovovich plays Gray Alys while Bautista plays Boyce, and the trailer shows plenty of action on both sides as well as a handful of meetings between the two.

The film has been floating around for almost a decade having been announced in 2015, with Jovovich incredibly cast that early too. It grew dormant for several years before finally emerging again in 2021, and four years later is finally ready for release.

The film likely has a lot of pressure behind it given Martin's previous adaptation, Game of Thrones, has become one of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time.

Riot Insists This Stunning New League of Legends Cinematic Isn't Setting Up a Post-Arcane Noxus Show, but Fans Still Have Their Suspicions

Riot Games is ringing in the New Year with a fresh season of League of Legends — the first of three season launches that players will experience in 2025. In typical Riot fashion, there's a cinematic trailer to go along with it, but this year's video is a major step-up from its predecessors. For one thing, it's absolutely stunning — thanks, of course, to a lending hand from Fortiche, the animation studio that brought Arcane to life. But more importantly, the five-minute video is leaving fans of Netflix's Arcane hopeful that this Noxus-themed trailer doubles as an exciting prelude to another League of Legends show.

There's a couple of apparent nods to Arcane that make their way into the end of the new cinematic. One of the biggest moments in the trailer that merges series with game comes when Black Rose members Vladimir and LeBlanc discuss how they need to take "advantage of the opportunity that has washed up our shores," which we're assuming is a reference to Mel. LeBlanc also comments that "Piltover was a lesson," which Arcane viewers will recognize as the Runeterra region in which the original show takes place.

When the final season of Arcane wrapped, fans were eager to find out if other Runeterra regions would get some on-screen exposure. Christian Linke, creative director at Riot and the creator and showrunner of Arcane, confirmed these suspicions in an interview with League content creator Necrit shortly after the show concluded, revealing that Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia will receive their own spin-off series.

Now, upon the cinematic's release, fans can't help but connect the dots that this Noxus-themed season of League of Legends is perhaps a subtle hint towards the Noxus-themed spin-off they've been waiting for.

Head of League Studio Andrew Van Roon, dubbed RiotMiddler on Reddit, has denied that the cinematic trailer is a set-up for a TV show: "Regarding the intent of the cinematic, our goal was to set up some themes for Noxus for the season and a plot line that'll be continued this year in game/around game materials (not a tv show to be clear)."

But, like, have you looked at it? It very well may be true that the intent of the cinematic is first and foremost to promote the new Noxus-based season of League of Legends — there's no actual show storyline that's teased, nor any official release date for a new show attached. We're just saying, it seems unlikely that Fortiche went through the trouble of creating new designs for characters like Elise, Katarina, Vladimir, Darius, LeBlanc, and Trundle with no intent of introducing them into a future series.

And for what it's worth, Riot has confirmed that Elise and Katarina's designs will be getting some love in the game, with their upcoming Masque of the Black Rose skins based on the cinematic and planned for inclusion as well as an update to LeBlanc.

Show teaser or not, we're hyped for this new season of League of Legends, which goes live tomorrow, January 9. It's a pretty historic patch that ushers in a total Noxian makeover for the Rift, a handful of visual changes to the map, and even some novel targeting animations for the all-new Noxian War Turrets. Until Riot decides to release an official announcement about its next TV series, we'll be waiting with bated breath (and probably re-watching Arcane).

Save $200 Off the Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme Handheld Gaming PC, Now Only $499.99

Starting this week, Best Buy is taking $200 off the Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme gaming handheld, now only $499.99. That's the lowest price I've seen for a brand new unit, even during Black Friday. This is an excellent gaming handheld for those of you who want to play your PC games anywhere without being tied to Steam's ecosystem.

Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme Gaming Handheld for $499.99

The Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is a Windows 11 based gaming handheld PC. This is the higher end of the two Asus ROG Ally models with an AMD Zen 4 based Z1 Extreme CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. It boasts a 7" screen size with a sharp 1080p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

Whereas its main competitor, the Steam Deck, runs off a Linux-based Steam OS, the ROG Ally uses the tried-and-true Windows 11. The benefit is that the ROG Ally is compatible with pretty much any Windows-based game launcher, including Steam, Battle.net, Xbox Games Pass, Epic Games Store, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, and more. Obviously that makes it more attractive to gamers who like to play games that aren't available or are harder to install on the Steam Deck.

In our Asus ROG Ally review, Robert Anderson wrote that "the Asus ROG Ally truly feels like the portable Xbox Game Pass machine that many fans have been clamoring for. While a frustrating user experience, poor battery life, and a lack of Steam Deck-style touchpads do hold it back a bit, it’s undeniable how much fun this handheld is to use when it really gets ticking. With a beautiful 1080p screen that’s marvelously bright and perfect for playing on the go in any condition, alongside its powerful set of specs and a fierce price tag, it might actually be the Steam Deck competitor we’ve been anticipating."

Note that CES 2025 is here and there's even more competition in the hot handheld gaming PC market. The more compact and updated Lenovo Legion Go S has been announced and it's already up for preorder now. If you want to get your hands on the Lenovo Legion Go S, the Windows 11 version with an Z2 Go and 32GB of RAM will launch in January 2025, starting at $729. However, a more affordable version is launching in May 2025, with the same Z2 Go chip, but with 16GB of RAM and your choice of Windows 11 or SteamOS for $599. The Asus ROG Ally X was also released in 2024 and it's an all-around better gaming handheld, albeit at a $300 higher price point.

Online Action Game Transformers: Reactivate Cancelled, Dev 'Potentially' Facing Layoffs

Transformers: Reactivate developer Splash Damage has cancelled the online action game two years after it was revealed at The Game Awards.

The studio shared a message on X/Twitter announcing the "very difficult news" and that "a number of roles" are "potentially at risk of redundancy." Transformers: Reactivate was announced on December 8, 2022 with a beta expected in 2023, but this was perpetually delayed and obviously has now been fully cancelled.

"This decision did not come lightly, and it is a difficult time for the studio and our people," Splash Damage said. "We want to take a moment to thank the team who worked on Transformers for their dedication and passion."

While Splash Damage initially used the term "potentially" to describe layoffs, the statement later made it seem certain.

"While not being able to see the game through to release is painful, having to say goodbye to friends and colleagues hurts even more. We're now focused on doing everything we can to support them through this tough period, just as we are committed to caring for those who stay with us as we build a stronger Splash Damage for the future."

Transformers: Reactivate was described as a one to four player online action game coming to consoles and PC. "The gravest threat to humanity has arrived," its synopsis read. "And it’s already won. Earth is no longer ours; it belongs to them. All we have left is our hope for the Autobots, as we salvage them from the rubble left behind."

Best Xbox Game Pass Deals and Bundles Right Now (January 2025)

The holidays and big seasonal sale events may be behind us, but if you're still itching to hop on the Game Pass bandwagon there's still time to save on a membership. Amazon's currently offering a nice 10% discount on three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, dropping its price from $49.99 to $44.88. With this, you can jump into exciting new releases like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (which we gave a 9/10).

You can learn more about that deal, what's coming soon to Game Pass, and the big releases still to come below.

Navigate to:

Best Xbox Game Pass Deals

Amazon's currently offering three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $44.88, 10% off its list price of $49.99. While not a massive discount, this is still a cheaper way to set you up with three months of Game Pass Ultimate compared to what you'd pay for the three months at regular subscription cost. Considering the new price of Game Pass Ultimate is $19.99/month, you're saving $15.09 with this three-month deal, which is well worth taking advantage of to enjoy the massive Game Pass library.

What's Coming Soon to Xbox Game Pass?

Game Pass has a nice rotation of new titles to play every month. If you're curious about what's in store for January, we've got you covered. The Xbox Game Pass January wave 1 lineup is:

  • Road 96 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – January 7 Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, Game Pass Standard
  • Lightyear Frontier (Game Preview) (Xbox Series X|S) – January 8 Now with Game Pass Standard
  • My Time at Sandrock (Console) – January 8 Now with Game Pass Standard
  • Robin Hood – Sherwood Builders (Xbox Series X|S) – January 8 Now with Game Pass Standard
  • Rolling Hills (Console) – January 8 Now with Game Pass Standard
  • EA Sports UFC 5 (Cloud and Xbox Series X|S) EA Play – January 14 Game Pass Ultimate
  • Diablo (PC) – January 14 Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass

Unfortunately, for those subscribing to the new Standard tier (available for $14.99/month), this does not give Game Pass users access to day one releases. This means big new releases on the platform like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will not be available on that tier.

What Games Are Leaving Xbox Game Pass?

Unfortunately with new games joining the catalog it means a few must take their leave. Below, we've listed the games that'll be leaving Xbox Game Pass on January 15.

  • Common’Hood (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Escape Academy (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Exoprimal (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Figment (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Insurgency Sandstorm (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Those Who Remain (Cloud, Console, and PC)

Biggest Games Releasing on Xbox Game Pass

Xbox's Summer Showcase last June was a massive success, showcasing an incredible amount of new titles coming to the platform. Alongside Black Ops 6, the showcase also included Doom: The Dark Ages, Perfect Dark, Fable, Gears of War: E-Day, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and so many more. But which of these titles will appear as day-one releases on Game Pass? Thankfully, quite a few! Including all of the previously mentioned titles.

The latest big release on the platform is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which we gave a 9/10 in our review. IGN's Luke Reilly said, "With a host of gorgeous and lavishly detailed levels, satisfying combat hinged on jawbreaking haymakers, and a focus on slow-paced exploration, platforming, and puzzle solving (interspersed with a handful of high-voltage action scenes), The Great Circle is an irresistible and immersive global treasure hunt for Indy fans who’ve felt underserved by the likes of The Dial of Destiny and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

If you're looking for even more savings on all things Xbox, have a look at our roundup of the best Xbox deals. Shadow of the Colossus Movie Still in the Works, Says Director

The long-in-development Shadow of the Colossus movie may still have a shot at life, according to recent comments made by director Andy Muschietti.

Muschietti revived hopes for a film adaptation of the classic Fumito Ueda video game during a chat with Radio TU (via Reconectados). It’s not much, but after about a decade without any solid updates, it at least sounds like a feature-length version of Wander and Agro’s story could still come to be.

“I'm not a big gamer, but Shadow of the Colossus seems to me a masterpiece and I played it several times,” Muschietti explained (translated via DeepL). “The movie has been in development for 10 years and now the possibility of making it opens up.”

He continued, doubling down on his desire to bring a Shadow of the Colossus movie to the big screen by saying that it is not “an abandoned project.” It’s unclear why exactly it’s taken more than a decade to get the film out the door, but Muschietti did at least talk a bit about why it’s taking so long to come to fruition. For example, creating a good, movie version of this story involves working with Sony to determine its budget. He said: “There are different versions of the film and obviously I want them to give me 200 million, but this is another factor to take into account.”

“I love that movie, there's a script that I really like, but there are factors that have to do not with your hobby and desire to make it, but with how popular an intellectual property like this is,” Muschietti said elsewhere during the interview.

A film based on the classic giant-slaying PlayStation 2 title first reared its head in 2009, when The Hollywood Reporter reported that Sony Pictures’ Kevin Misher and now-Shogun writer Justin Marks had been tapped to work on the project. While Chronicle’s Josh Trank had originally been picked to direct, Sony would eventually land on It and The Flash director Muschietti to lead the film. That was in 2014, and updates have been few and far between since.

Still, 10 years later, today’s news suggests there may still be a chance for the movie to emerge. Just don’t expect to see it any time soon while the team at Sony works out all of the details. Perhaps more likely at this stage are movies based on Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn, both of which were announced at CES 2025.

Pokémon Presents Confirmed for Next Month Via Pokémon Go Datamine

A datamine of mobile game Pokémon Go has confirmed The Pokémon Company will host a Pokémon Presents event in February 2025.

Established dataminer @mattyoukhana_ revealed on X/Twitter that the Pokémon Go code now references an event connected with what's being called Pokémon Presents 2025. Further text reveals it will take place on Pokémon Day, as expected, meaning February 27.

While this isn't really a surprise, as such an event has been held on Pokémon Day for the last few years, the seemingly imminent reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, from The Pokémon Company co-owner Nintendo, is a big enough occasion to shake up the regular schedule.

It's currently unclear when the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal will happen but it appears to be very soon given accessory maker Genki is currently showing off a mockup at the Consumer Electronics Show 2025. It's confirmed to be revealed before the end of March 2025 too.

An announcement ahead of Pokémon Day would certainly make sense, however, as it would allow The Pokémon Company to discuss its next big game during the Pokémon Presents. The February 27 event is the biggest on Pokémon fans' calendar and in the last few years has seen the likes of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and Pokémon Legends Z-A announced.

This latter game, the next big release coming sometime in 2025, is therefore practically a shoe in for the upcoming event, and is increasingly likely to appear on Nintendo Switch 2 given how little The Pokémon Company has said about it so far.

Pokémon Presents events typically last around 30 minutes and feature big announcements like these alongside myriad on the rest of the Pokémon world. This includes games such as Pokémon TCG Pocket and, as is already known, Pokémon Go, but reveals for the anime, actual card game, and other products are common too.

Max brings together content from the old HBO Max service and Discovery+ under one roof. From Discovery, this includes programming from brands like HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Magnolia Network, and more. Some of the shows include Property Brothers, House Hunters, Fixer Upper, among others.

The service also maintains much of the content from HBO Max, including its slate of HBO Originals like The Last of Us, Euphoria, Succession, Barry, Curb Your Enthusiasm, White Lotus, House of the Dragon, and more. It also includes DC's slate of movies like Black Adam and The Batman, as well as other popular films like Dune: Part Two and Barbie. Plus, Max continues to house popular streaming series like Friends, Full House, and the Harry Potter movie collection.

In our updated 2024 review of Max, we gave it an 8/10, stating that, "For all its problems and an app that still runs a little too heavy, the extensive selection of well-curated choices make Max a worthwhile investment for cinema and TV lovers."

As far as animated fare, there are modern adult classics like Rick and Morty and Bob's Burgers, as well as Futurama, Family Guy, and King of the Hill. Anime staples like Cowboy Bebop are also available. And if you want to bring more youth-friendly fun, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Animaniacs, Adventure Time, and Curious George are just a small sample of what Hulu has available.

The future of Hulu

Hulu isn't going anywhere. As a matter of fact, beyond it being awarded the best streaming service in 2023 by us and receiving a 9/10 in our updated Hulu review, it was bought in full by Disney in November 2023 and the House of Mouse has created a one-app experience for those bundling Hulu and Disney+. With an FX partnership, Hulu is also home to those shows, including the latest drama miniseries, Shogun.

<b>Winner: Shogun</b>

While the race for this year’s winner was close, there is no other choice for the top slot than the impeccable, intricate and intriguing Shōgun. The show — which was originally meant to be a limited series but has since been renewed for Season 2 at FX and Hulu — is immediately gripping in its first episode, demanding the attention of the audience in ways few shows know how to do these days. We are immediately plunged into the political and religious conflict plaguing the honorable Lord Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) and his loyalists. While characters like Toranaga, Blackhorne (Cosmo Jarvis) and Mariko (Anna Sawai) are quick to win our hearts, the secondary performances of Tadanobu Asano as the slippery Yabushige and Moeka Hoshi as the quietly devout Usami Fuji ensure Shōgun’s ensemble sings in every scene.
<br>
<br>
There is no down moment in the series. Even the quietest scenes scream their importance while the actors do their work. There is an authenticity to Shōgun that insists on your undivided attention. In fact, said authenticity was a stipulation of Sanada’s involvement in the series. Acting as a producer as well as actor on the show, Sanada was an integral part of the casting process and had a hand in many aspects of the series.

<br>
From bombastic explosions to sunken ships, quiet moments between conspirators and lovers, and the best use of the queen’s sacrifice play in recent history, Shōgun is undeniably the best show of 2024.

Yes, The Thing Says 'It's Clobberin' Time' in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Actor Reveals

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is shrouded in mystery, with plot details a closely guarded secret at Marvel Studios. But we now know one new thing — revealed by the actor who plays The Thing himself.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ebon Moss-Bachrach dodged questions about The Fantastic Four, warning the host that he was media trained and wouldn’t spoil anything about the upcoming MCU film after a cheeky question about Dr. Doom actor Robert Downey, Jr potentially appearing on set.

Kimmel kept at it, sparking Moss-Bachrach into talking in vague terms about the process of doing motion capture work for the superhero. Kimmel then asked if he smoked a cigar during filming, trying to get confirmation that The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ version of The Thing smokes a cigar in the movie, as the comic book version is famous for doing.

"Er, no," was the slightly concerned response.

Then: “Do you say the words, ‘it’s clobberin’ time!’ at any point?”

It’s here Moss-Bachrach perhaps revealed something he shouldn’t have: "I slipped it in there a couple of times."

Amid excited applause, Moss-Bachrach quickly added: “We’ll see what happens! I don’t have final cut on this one. So we’ll see.”

Kimmel, satisfied, thanked Moss-Bachrach for giving him a morsel of new information. “You gave me something that you probably shouldn’t have,” he quipped.

“Yeah, and now it’s going to be a long ride home,” Moss-Bachrach sighed.

In November, Marvel Studios issued an update on The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The upcoming MCU movie, due out July 25, 2025, stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.

Also listed in the update were Ralph Ineson as Galactus, Julia Garner as Silver Surfer, Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles. The director is Matt Shakman and the producer is of course Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige.

Here’s the official The Fantastic Four: First Steps synopsis:

Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s First Family — Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet.
Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.

At NYCC in October, attendees were greeted with artwork that featured a number of important faces from the MCU, including a first live-action look at The Fantastic Four’s Humanoid Experimental Robot B-Type Integrated Electronics a.k.a. H.E.R.B.I.E.

Fans are speculating that Robert Downey, Jr. will return to the MCU as iconic Marvel villain Doctor Doom at some point in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, or at least be teased in some way. Feige has confirmed that the Fantastic Four will appear in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Microsoft to Make Windows on Handheld Gaming PCs More Like Xbox This Year

Microsoft is looking to improve its Windows operating system on handheld PCs such as the Asus ROG Ally X and Lenovo Legion Go by making the software more like an Xbox console.

Microsoft vice president of Next Generation Jason Ronald said at a CES 2025 panel this shift is planned for 2025 and told The Verge it looks to bring "the best of Xbox and Windows together." This comes ahead of Xbox releasing its own dedicated handheld in a few years.

Ronald said during the event: "We’ve been really innovating for a long time in the console space and, as we partner across the industry, it’s really about: 'How do we bring those innovations that we’ve incubated and developed in the console space and bring them to PC and bring them to the handheld gaming space?"

We’re focused on really simplifying that and making it much more like a console experience.

He expanded on this to The Verge, saying Microsoft has spent "the last 20 years building a world-class operating system" that's "locked to the console." It's therefore now working out how to bring that experience to Windows.

"We’re focused on really simplifying that and making it much more like a console experience," Ronald said. "Our goal is to put the player and their library at the center of the experience and not all the [Windows] work that you have to do today."

It's unclear when specific details will come, but Ronald insisted it will be in 2025. "I think we’ll have a lot more to share later this year," he said. "I think it’s going to be a journey and I think you’ll see a lot of investments over time that you’re starting to see already, but we’ll have a lot more to share later this year."

The handheld gaming PC market has erupted over the last few years, perhaps inspired by the incredible success of the Nintendo Switch. Valve paved the way for PC developers with the Steam Deck, though others such as Asus and Lenovo soon followed.

The industry is currently waiting with bated breath for Nintendo to announce the Switch successor, which appears to spawn a new leak or rumor every day. A mockup even appeared at CES 2025, though the extent of its legitimacy is still unclear. Check out every other announcement from the tech convention here.
