Reserve the New Samsung Galaxy S25 Smartphone Ahead of Galaxy Unpacked 2025

It's that time of year. On January 22, Samsung will host its biannual Galaxy Unpacked Event, where they will announce their new line of 2025 Galaxy S smartphones. This is also when preorders go live. In advance of the event, you can place a reservation online in order to get it on some early bird perks if you end up placing a preorder. These include:

  • A bonus $50 Samsung credit
  • Up to $1,250+ in additional savings (most likely from trade-ins)
  • A chance to even their sweepstakes for $5,000 in Samsung credit

If you're even slightly interested in getting your hands on the new 2025 Galaxy S25 smartphone, there's no reason not to reserve. Since this isn't a pre-order, you don't have to place any kind of deposit, and there's no commitment to buy.

Although Samsung is tight-lipped about the details, we can infer that the new Galaxy S phones will be dubbed "S25" (last year's series was the S24) and will very likely come in its usual three variants: the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra, with a potential fourth model - the Galaxy S25 "Slim" - being unveiled as well.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra was our favorite Android phone of 2024. In our Galaxy S24 Ultra review review, Jacqueline Thomas wrote that "The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is an incredible smartphone. It might look like yet another Galaxy device, but its titanium chassis and powerful processor makes this a durable gaming phone that can outrace the best of them."

The less expensive Galaxy S24 Plus was also a solid winner in our books. In our Galaxy S24 Plus review, Mark Knapp wrote that "The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the best Android phone you can buy right now, but at $1299, it really needs to be. This is not only the fastest gaming phone you can buy today, but with its premium Titanium chassis, it might just be the most durable. Samsung is sweetening the deal a bit by adding a huge variety of AI tools, but many of them will probably be forgotten after you've been using the phone for a while. Still, don't let that get you down: if you want a premium Android phone in 2024, it's hard to imagine getting anything else.

Since the Galaxy S25 will be Samsung's new flagship phone, we expect improvements across the board. Galaxy S phones are well noted for their excellent build quality and premium aesthetic, powerful components, and a best-in-class camera. The incorporation of AI has been at the forefront of CES 2025 and I expect Samsung to follow suit with its own Galaxy AI algorithm. Rumors abound but concrete details are still wanting. We will all find out soon enough, and if the phone beats expectations, you'd be glad that you reserved in advance.

If the Squid Game X code still isn't working, it's more than likely expired and can no longer be redeemed.

George R.R. Martin Adaptation Starring Dave Bautista, In the Lost Lands, Gets Official Trailer

In the Lost Lands, a film adaptation of a George R.R. Martin short story starring Dave Bautista, has received a wild official trailer.

Guardian of the Galaxy actor Bautista stars alongside Milla Jovovich while Resident Evil director Paul W. S. Anderson directs. In the Lost Lands is based on a short story of the same name and the trailer lists a theatrical release "this winter," though Martin himself said March 7 in his latest blog post.

From the mind of George R.R. Martin, #InTheLostLands starring Dave Bautista and Milla Jovovich is only in theaters March 7. Watch the official trailer now. pic.twitter.com/WffigMtM4G

— In the Lost Lands (@lostlandsmovie) January 8, 2025

"A Queen sends the powerful and feared sorceress Gray Alys to the ghostly wilderness of the Lost Lands in search of a magical power, where the sorceress and her guide, the drifter Boyce, must outwit and outfight man and demon," the synopsis reads.

Jovovich plays Gray Alys while Bautista plays Boyce, and the trailer shows plenty of action on both sides as well as a handful of meetings between the two.

The film has been floating around for almost a decade having been announced in 2015, with Jovovich incredibly cast that early too. It grew dormant for several years before finally emerging again in 2021, and four years later is finally ready for release.

The film likely has a lot of pressure behind it given Martin's previous adaptation, Game of Thrones, has become one of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time.

Riot Insists This Stunning New League of Legends Cinematic Isn't Setting Up a Post-Arcane Noxus Show, but Fans Still Have Their Suspicions

Riot Games is ringing in the New Year with a fresh season of League of Legends — the first of three season launches that players will experience in 2025. In typical Riot fashion, there's a cinematic trailer to go along with it, but this year's video is a major step-up from its predecessors. For one thing, it's absolutely stunning — thanks, of course, to a lending hand from Fortiche, the animation studio that brought Arcane to life. But more importantly, the five-minute video is leaving fans of Netflix's Arcane hopeful that this Noxus-themed trailer doubles as an exciting prelude to another League of Legends show.

There's a couple of apparent nods to Arcane that make their way into the end of the new cinematic. One of the biggest moments in the trailer that merges series with game comes when Black Rose members Vladimir and LeBlanc discuss how they need to take "advantage of the opportunity that has washed up our shores," which we're assuming is a reference to Mel. LeBlanc also comments that "Piltover was a lesson," which Arcane viewers will recognize as the Runeterra region in which the original show takes place.

When the final season of Arcane wrapped, fans were eager to find out if other Runeterra regions would get some on-screen exposure. Christian Linke, creative director at Riot and the creator and showrunner of Arcane, confirmed these suspicions in an interview with League content creator Necrit shortly after the show concluded, revealing that Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia will receive their own spin-off series.

Now, upon the cinematic's release, fans can't help but connect the dots that this Noxus-themed season of League of Legends is perhaps a subtle hint towards the Noxus-themed spin-off they've been waiting for.

One Rioter on Reddit, dubbed RiotMiddler, has denied that the cinematic trailer is a set-up for a TV show: "Regarding the intent of the cinematic, our goal was to set up some themes for Noxus for the season and a plot line that'll be continued this year in game/around game materials (not a tv show to be clear)."

But, like, have you looked at it? It very well may be true that the intent of the cinematic is first and foremost to promote the new Noxus-based season of League of Legends — there's no actual show storyline that's teased, nor any official release date for a new show attached. We're just saying, it seems unlikely that Fortiche went through the trouble of creating new designs for characters like Elise, Katarina, Vladimir, Darius, LeBlanc, and Trundle with no intent of introducing them into a future series.

Show teaser or not, we're hyped for this new season of League of Legends, which goes live tomorrow, January 9. It's a pretty historic patch that ushers in a total Noxian makeover for the Rift, a handful of visual changes to the map, and even some novel targeting animations for the all-new Noxian War Turrets. Until Riot decides to release an official announcement about its next TV series, we'll be waiting with bated breath (and probably re-watching Arcane).

Save $200 Off the Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme Handheld Gaming PC, Now Only $499.99

Starting this week, Best Buy is taking $200 off the Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme gaming handheld, now only $499.99. That's the lowest price I've seen for a brand new unit, even during Black Friday. This is an excellent gaming handheld for those of you who want to play your PC games anywhere without being tied to Steam's ecosystem.

Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme Gaming Handheld for $499.99

The Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is a Windows 11 based gaming handheld PC. This is the higher end of the two Asus ROG Ally models with an AMD Zen 4 based Z1 Extreme CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. It boasts a 7" screen size with a sharp 1080p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

Whereas its main competitor, the Steam Deck, runs off a Linux-based Steam OS, the ROG Ally uses the tried-and-true Windows 11. The benefit is that the ROG Ally is compatible with pretty much any Windows-based game launcher, including Steam, Battle.net, Xbox Games Pass, Epic Games Store, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, and more. Obviously that makes it more attractive to gamers who like to play games that aren't available or are harder to install on the Steam Deck.

In our Asus ROG Ally review, Robert Anderson wrote that "the Asus ROG Ally truly feels like the portable Xbox Game Pass machine that many fans have been clamoring for. While a frustrating user experience, poor battery life, and a lack of Steam Deck-style touchpads do hold it back a bit, it’s undeniable how much fun this handheld is to use when it really gets ticking. With a beautiful 1080p screen that’s marvelously bright and perfect for playing on the go in any condition, alongside its powerful set of specs and a fierce price tag, it might actually be the Steam Deck competitor we’ve been anticipating."

Note that CES 2025 is here and there's even more competition in the hot handheld gaming PC market. The more compact and updated Lenovo Legion Go S has been announced and it's already up for preorder now. If you want to get your hands on the Lenovo Legion Go S, the Windows 11 version with an Z2 Go and 32GB of RAM will launch in January 2025, starting at $729. However, a more affordable version is launching in May 2025, with the same Z2 Go chip, but with 16GB of RAM and your choice of Windows 11 or SteamOS for $599. The Asus ROG Ally X was also released in 2024 and it's an all-around better gaming handheld, albeit at a $300 higher price point.

Online Action Game Transformers: Reactivate Cancelled, Dev 'Potentially' Facing Layoffs

Transformers: Reactivate developer Splash Damage has cancelled the online action game two years after it was revealed at The Game Awards.

The studio shared a message on X/Twitter announcing the "very difficult news" and that "a number of roles" are "potentially at risk of redundancy." Transformers: Reactivate was announced on December 8, 2022 with a beta expected in 2023, but this was perpetually delayed and obviously has now been fully cancelled.

"This decision did not come lightly, and it is a difficult time for the studio and our people," Splash Damage said. "We want to take a moment to thank the team who worked on Transformers for their dedication and passion."

While Splash Damage initially used the term "potentially" to describe layoffs, the statement later made it seem certain.

"While not being able to see the game through to release is painful, having to say goodbye to friends and colleagues hurts even more. We're now focused on doing everything we can to support them through this tough period, just as we are committed to caring for those who stay with us as we build a stronger Splash Damage for the future."

Transformers: Reactivate was described as a one to four player online action game coming to consoles and PC. "The gravest threat to humanity has arrived," its synopsis read. "And it’s already won. Earth is no longer ours; it belongs to them. All we have left is our hope for the Autobots, as we salvage them from the rubble left behind."

Best Xbox Game Pass Deals and Bundles Right Now (January 2025)

The holidays and big seasonal sale events may be behind us, but if you're still itching to hop on the Game Pass bandwagon there's still time to save on a membership. Amazon's currently offering a nice 10% discount on three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, dropping its price from $49.99 to $44.88. With this, you can jump into exciting new releases like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (which we gave a 9/10).

You can learn more about that deal, what's coming soon to Game Pass, and the big releases still to come below.

Navigate to:

Best Xbox Game Pass Deals

Amazon's currently offering three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $44.88, 10% off its list price of $49.99. While not a massive discount, this is still a cheaper way to set you up with three months of Game Pass Ultimate compared to what you'd pay for the three months at regular subscription cost. Considering the new price of Game Pass Ultimate is $19.99/month, you're saving $15.09 with this three-month deal, which is well worth taking advantage of to enjoy the massive Game Pass library.

What's Coming Soon to Xbox Game Pass?

Game Pass has a nice rotation of new titles to play every month. If you're curious about what's in store for January, we've got you covered. The Xbox Game Pass January wave 1 lineup is:

  • Road 96 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – January 7 Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, Game Pass Standard
  • Lightyear Frontier (Game Preview) (Xbox Series X|S) – January 8 Now with Game Pass Standard
  • My Time at Sandrock (Console) – January 8 Now with Game Pass Standard
  • Robin Hood – Sherwood Builders (Xbox Series X|S) – January 8 Now with Game Pass Standard
  • Rolling Hills (Console) – January 8 Now with Game Pass Standard
  • EA Sports UFC 5 (Cloud and Xbox Series X|S) EA Play – January 14 Game Pass Ultimate
  • Diablo (PC) – January 14 Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass

Unfortunately, for those subscribing to the new Standard tier (available for $14.99/month), this does not give Game Pass users access to day one releases. This means big new releases on the platform like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will not be available on that tier.

What Games Are Leaving Xbox Game Pass?

Unfortunately with new games joining the catalog it means a few must take their leave. Below, we've listed the games that'll be leaving Xbox Game Pass on January 15.

  • Common’Hood (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Escape Academy (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Exoprimal (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Figment (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Insurgency Sandstorm (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Those Who Remain (Cloud, Console, and PC)

Biggest Games Releasing on Xbox Game Pass

Xbox's Summer Showcase last June was a massive success, showcasing an incredible amount of new titles coming to the platform. Alongside Black Ops 6, the showcase also included Doom: The Dark Ages, Perfect Dark, Fable, Gears of War: E-Day, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and so many more. But which of these titles will appear as day-one releases on Game Pass? Thankfully, quite a few! Including all of the previously mentioned titles.

The latest big release on the platform is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which we gave a 9/10 in our review. IGN's Luke Reilly said, "With a host of gorgeous and lavishly detailed levels, satisfying combat hinged on jawbreaking haymakers, and a focus on slow-paced exploration, platforming, and puzzle solving (interspersed with a handful of high-voltage action scenes), The Great Circle is an irresistible and immersive global treasure hunt for Indy fans who’ve felt underserved by the likes of The Dial of Destiny and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

If you're looking for even more savings on all things Xbox, have a look at our roundup of the best Xbox deals. Shadow of the Colossus Movie Still in the Works, Says Director

The long-in-development Shadow of the Colossus movie may still have a shot at life, according to recent comments made by director Andy Muschietti.

Muschietti revived hopes for a film adaptation of the classic Fumito Ueda video game during a chat with Radio TU (via Reconectados). It’s not much, but after about a decade without any solid updates, it at least sounds like a feature-length version of Wander and Agro’s story could still come to be.

“I'm not a big gamer, but Shadow of the Colossus seems to me a masterpiece and I played it several times,” Muschietti explained (translated via DeepL). “The movie has been in development for 10 years and now the possibility of making it opens up.”

He continued, doubling down on his desire to bring a Shadow of the Colossus movie to the big screen by saying that it is not “an abandoned project.” It’s unclear why exactly it’s taken more than a decade to get the film out the door, but Muschietti did at least talk a bit about why it’s taking so long to come to fruition. For example, creating a good, movie version of this story involves working with Sony to determine its budget. He said: “There are different versions of the film and obviously I want them to give me 200 million, but this is another factor to take into account.”

“I love that movie, there's a script that I really like, but there are factors that have to do not with your hobby and desire to make it, but with how popular an intellectual property like this is,” Muschietti said elsewhere during the interview.

A film based on the classic giant-slaying PlayStation 2 title first reared its head in 2009, when The Hollywood Reporter reported that Sony Pictures’ Kevin Misher and now-Shogun writer Justin Marks had been tapped to work on the project. While Chronicle’s Josh Trank had originally been picked to direct, Sony would eventually land on It and The Flash director Muschietti to lead the film. That was in 2014, and updates have been few and far between since.

Still, 10 years later, today’s news suggests there may still be a chance for the movie to emerge. Just don’t expect to see it any time soon while the team at Sony works out all of the details. Perhaps more likely at this stage are movies based on Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn, both of which were announced at CES 2025.

Pokémon Presents Confirmed for Next Month Via Pokémon Go Datamine

A datamine of mobile game Pokémon Go has confirmed The Pokémon Company will host a Pokémon Presents event in February 2025.

Established dataminer @mattyoukhana_ revealed on X/Twitter that the Pokémon Go code now references an event connected with what's being called Pokémon Presents 2025. Further text reveals it will take place on Pokémon Day, as expected, meaning February 27.

While this isn't really a surprise, as such an event has been held on Pokémon Day for the last few years, the seemingly imminent reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, from The Pokémon Company co-owner Nintendo, is a big enough occasion to shake up the regular schedule.

It's currently unclear when the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal will happen but it appears to be very soon given accessory maker Genki is currently showing off a mockup at the Consumer Electronics Show 2025. It's confirmed to be revealed before the end of March 2025 too.

An announcement ahead of Pokémon Day would certainly make sense, however, as it would allow The Pokémon Company to discuss its next big game during the Pokémon Presents. The February 27 event is the biggest on Pokémon fans' calendar and in the last few years has seen the likes of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and Pokémon Legends Z-A announced.

This latter game, the next big release coming sometime in 2025, is therefore practically a shoe in for the upcoming event, and is increasingly likely to appear on Nintendo Switch 2 given how little The Pokémon Company has said about it so far.

Pokémon Presents events typically last around 30 minutes and feature big announcements like these alongside myriad on the rest of the Pokémon world. This includes games such as Pokémon TCG Pocket and, as is already known, Pokémon Go, but reveals for the anime, actual card game, and other products are common too.

Max brings together content from the old HBO Max service and Discovery+ under one roof. From Discovery, this includes programming from brands like HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Magnolia Network, and more. Some of the shows include Property Brothers, House Hunters, Fixer Upper, among others.

The service also maintains much of the content from HBO Max, including its slate of HBO Originals like The Last of Us, Euphoria, Succession, Barry, Curb Your Enthusiasm, White Lotus, House of the Dragon, and more. It also includes DC's slate of movies like Black Adam and The Batman, as well as other popular films like Dune: Part Two and Barbie. Plus, Max continues to house popular streaming series like Friends, Full House, and the Harry Potter movie collection.

In our updated 2024 review of Max, we gave it an 8/10, stating that, "For all its problems and an app that still runs a little too heavy, the extensive selection of well-curated choices make Max a worthwhile investment for cinema and TV lovers."

There are also some big originals, like The Bear, The Old Man, The Handmaid's Tale, and Only Murders In The Building.

As far as animated fare, there are modern adult classics like Rick and Morty and Bob's Burgers, as well as Futurama, Family Guy, and King of the Hill. Anime staples like Cowboy Bebop are also available. And if you want to bring more youth-friendly fun, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Animaniacs, Adventure Time, and Curious George are just a small sample of what Hulu has available.

The future of Hulu

Hulu isn't going anywhere. As a matter of fact, beyond it being awarded the best streaming service in 2023 by us and receiving a 9/10 in our updated Hulu review, it was bought in full by Disney in November 2023 and the House of Mouse has created a one-app experience for those bundling Hulu and Disney+. With an FX partnership, Hulu is also home to those shows, including the latest drama miniseries, Shogun.

<b>Winner: Shogun</b>
<br>
<br>
While the race for this year’s winner was close, there is no other choice for the top slot than the impeccable, intricate and intriguing Shōgun. The show — which was originally meant to be a limited series but has since been renewed for Season 2 at FX and Hulu — is immediately gripping in its first episode, demanding the attention of the audience in ways few shows know how to do these days. We are immediately plunged into the political and religious conflict plaguing the honorable Lord Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) and his loyalists. While characters like Toranaga, Blackhorne (Cosmo Jarvis) and Mariko (Anna Sawai) are quick to win our hearts, the secondary performances of Tadanobu Asano as the slippery Yabushige and Moeka Hoshi as the quietly devout Usami Fuji ensure Shōgun’s ensemble sings in every scene.
<br>
<br>
There is no down moment in the series. Even the quietest scenes scream their importance while the actors do their work. There is an authenticity to Shōgun that insists on your undivided attention. In fact, said authenticity was a stipulation of Sanada’s involvement in the series. Acting as a producer as well as actor on the show, Sanada was an integral part of the casting process and had a hand in many aspects of the series.
<br>
<br>
From bombastic explosions to sunken ships, quiet moments between conspirators and lovers, and the best use of the queen’s sacrifice play in recent history, Shōgun is undeniably the best show of 2024.

Yes, The Thing Says 'It's Clobberin' Time' in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Actor Reveals

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is shrouded in mystery, with plot details a closely guarded secret at Marvel Studios. But we now know one new thing — revealed by the actor who plays The Thing himself.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ebon Moss-Bachrach dodged questions about The Fantastic Four, warning the host that he was media trained and wouldn’t spoil anything about the upcoming MCU film after a cheeky question about Dr. Doom actor Robert Downey, Jr potentially appearing on set.

Kimmel kept at it, sparking Moss-Bachrach into talking in vague terms about the process of doing motion capture work for the superhero. Kimmel then asked if he smoked a cigar during filming, trying to get confirmation that The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ version of The Thing smokes a cigar in the movie, as the comic book version is famous for doing.

"Er, no," was the slightly concerned response.

Then: “Do you say the words, ‘it’s clobberin’ time!’ at any point?”

It’s here Moss-Bachrach perhaps revealed something he shouldn’t have: "I slipped it in there a couple of times."

Amid excited applause, Moss-Bachrach quickly added: “We’ll see what happens! I don’t have final cut on this one. So we’ll see.”

Kimmel, satisfied, thanked Moss-Bachrach for giving him a morsel of new information. “You gave me something that you probably shouldn’t have,” he quipped.

“Yeah, and now it’s going to be a long ride home,” Moss-Bachrach sighed.

In November, Marvel Studios issued an update on The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The upcoming MCU movie, due out July 25, 2025, stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.

Also listed in the update were Ralph Ineson as Galactus, Julia Garner as Silver Surfer, Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles. The director is Matt Shakman and the producer is of course Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige.

Here’s the official The Fantastic Four: First Steps synopsis:

Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s First Family — Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet.
Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.

At NYCC in October, attendees were greeted with artwork that featured a number of important faces from the MCU, including a first live-action look at The Fantastic Four’s Humanoid Experimental Robot B-Type Integrated Electronics a.k.a. H.E.R.B.I.E.

Fans are speculating that Robert Downey, Jr. will return to the MCU as iconic Marvel villain Doctor Doom at some point in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, or at least be teased in some way. Feige has confirmed that the Fantastic Four will appear in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Microsoft to Make Windows on Handheld Gaming PCs More Like Xbox This Year

Microsoft is looking to improve its Windows operating system on handheld PCs such as the Asus ROG Ally X and Lenovo Legion Go by making the software more like an Xbox console.

Microsoft vice president of Next Generation Jason Ronald said at a CES 2025 panel this shift is planned for 2025 and told The Verge it looks to bring "the best of Xbox and Windows together." This comes ahead of Xbox releasing its own dedicated handheld in a few years.

Ronald said during the event: "We’ve been really innovating for a long time in the console space and, as we partner across the industry, it’s really about: 'How do we bring those innovations that we’ve incubated and developed in the console space and bring them to PC and bring them to the handheld gaming space?"

We’re focused on really simplifying that and making it much more like a console experience.

He expanded on this to The Verge, saying Microsoft has spent "the last 20 years building a world-class operating system" that's "locked to the console." It's therefore now working out how to bring that experience to Windows.

"We’re focused on really simplifying that and making it much more like a console experience," Ronald said. "Our goal is to put the player and their library at the center of the experience and not all the [Windows] work that you have to do today."

It's unclear when specific details will come, but Ronald insisted it will be in 2025. "I think we’ll have a lot more to share later this year," he said. "I think it’s going to be a journey and I think you’ll see a lot of investments over time that you’re starting to see already, but we’ll have a lot more to share later this year."

The handheld gaming PC market has erupted over the last few years, perhaps inspired by the incredible success of the Nintendo Switch. Valve paved the way for PC developers with the Steam Deck, though others such as Asus and Lenovo soon followed.

The industry is currently waiting with bated breath for Nintendo to announce the Switch successor, which appears to spawn a new leak or rumor every day. A mockup even appeared at CES 2025, though the extent of its legitimacy is still unclear. Check out every other announcement from the tech convention here.

CES 2025: Everything Announced

CES 2025 has been filled with huge announcements celebrating the latest and greatest you can expect from consumer tech in the coming years. At the annual Las Vegas show the industry comes together to give the rest of the world a sneak peek at products that offer a tantalizing glimpse into the future of tech. But, with hundreds of companies demoing their gadgets on the show floor, it can be tough to weed out the biggest announcements you need to know about.

From Nvidia’s brand new graphics cards to the brand-new OLED gaming monitors set to hit the market this year, we’ve rounded up all tech news you need to know — here’s everything announced at CES 2025.

Nvidia RTX 5000 series GPUs: DLSS 4, GDDR 7, and big performance claims

Nvidia boss Jensen Huang took to the stage at the beginning of the week to show off a brand new generation of graphics cards, the RTX 5000 Blackwell series.

February 2025

During the keynote we saw glimpses at the RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070. The former two high-end GPUs will be available before the end of January, but the slightly more wallet-friendly variants have no release date attached to them quite yet, with a release window of 2025. The chips come with brand-new hardware, like rapid GDDR7 memory, and a swanky new dual-slot Founder’s Edition cooler design.

Nvidia claims the $549 RTX 5070 will perform on par with an RTX 4090 in certain titles. In a press briefing held after Huang’s CES keynote, an Nvidia representative said: "This does not mean a 5070 can beat a 4090 in every single way," noting that technology like DLSS 4, which is exclusive to the RTX 5000 series, will bolster those numbers further thanks to its new advanced AI frame generation techniques. As ever, it’s best to wait for independent benchmarks to see if those statements hold up.

Nvidia showed off some other swanky new tech, like Reflex 2, which reduces lag even further in competitive gaming titles, as well as a suite of tools that developers can use, like RTX Neural Shaders, RTX Neural Faces, and RTX Mega Geometry.

AMD RX 9070 series GPUs: Team Red’s midrange competition

AMD, not one to back down from a fight, has announced its latest midrange GPU lineup, named the RX 9070 series. It arrives in two variants: the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070. A new numbering system denotes that the chips are set to go up against Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 respectively. Curiously, though AMD has officially announced the new GPUs (we even benchmarked one of them), no pricing or release date details have been revealed. It also remains unclear if AMD is to offer a higher-end model to compete with the RTX 5080 and 5090. The new chips will also ship with the latest AI-enhanced upscaler, named FSR 4. In somewhat confusing messaging from AMD, FSR 4 is listed as being “exclusive to the RX 9070 series," lending credence to the idea that the feature will be locked behind specific chips in its lineup.

Lenovo Legion Go S: the first official third-party SteamOS handheld

Lenovo has been showing off a pair of its brand-new gaming handhelds, which come sporting AMD’s brand new Ryzen Z2 chips. First to land is the Legion Go S, which ships with the Z2 Go chip inside, and can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM, ships with an 8-inch 1200p display, and crucially, is the first handheld to officially ship with SteamOS, the same operating system the Steam Deck uses. An AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme version of the handheld with Windows 11 is set to arrive later this month at $729, while the Z2 Go variant shipping with Windows 11 will cost $599, and the SteamOS-based variant will run just $499 and begin shipping in May 2025.

Acer Nitro Blaze 11: how big is too big for a gaming handheld?

With heaps of gaming handheld news coming out at CES 2025, another device that caught our attention was the Acer Nitro Blaze 11, a gaming handheld that sports an AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS laptop chip, alongside up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 2TB of storage. The twist here is in the display, as the Nitro Blaze 11 will ship with a staggering 11-inch 2560x1600 120Hz IPS display, which really pushes the definition of the term 'handheld.' With a 55Wh battery in tow and a staggering weight of 1050g, the Nitro Blaze 11 is hilariously large, something that the promotional imagery cannot escape. The Acer Nitro Blaze 11 will ship in Q2 2025, starting at $1199.

Razer Project Arielle: a gaming chair that warms or cools

Razer is no stranger to a marketing stunt every CES, and this year its cooked up a gaming chair that can dynamically heat of cool you by integrating bladeless fans into its design. The chair itself is based on Razer’s Fujin Pro, and claims to deliver up to 30 degrees Celsius of warm air during the cold winter months. The company states that the bladeless fans can also cool the ambient temperature of the room by two to five degrees.

Heating or cooling is configured via a touch panel on the right-hand side of the seat. Naturally, you can also expect a massive RGB lightstrip placed at the front so you can be warmed with an ominous glow. Project Arielle remains a concept for now, with Razer not having the greatest track record of actually putting any of its concept designs out to market.

ASUS ROG Swift PG27UCDM: a next-gen OLED gaming monitor

ASUS makes some of the best gaming monitors on the planet, and at CES 2025 it announced the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM. The PG27UCDM boats a 27-inch, 4th generation QD-OLED display, with a 4K resolution and 240Hz refresh rate, and claims to be the “world’s first” 4K QD-OLED 27-inch monitor. Being an OLED panel, it also offers a rapid 0.03ms G2G response time. Its sharp 160ppi density will make the display look fantastic, with new-gen anti-flicker technology.

With full HDR10 support, the display also offers impressive connectivity, like DisplayPort 2.1a support, HDMI 2.1, a USB hub, and a 90W USB-C power delivery connector. And with a three-year warranty for OLED Burn-in, this new gaming monitor offers just about the peak of the technology out right now, and in a desk-perfect 27-inch form factor.

LG G5 and M5 OLED TVs: wireless tech and brighter displays

LG’s newest lineup of consumer TVs includes the high-end G5 and M5 OLED, which come with “four stack” OLED panel tech, which can allow the displays to get brighter than ever before, claiming an increase in panel brightness of 40% when compared to the last-generation G4. It’ll also begin shipping in a 48-inch model, which, confusingly, won’t come with the brand-new panel tech upgrades. Secondly, the OLED M5 lineup lands with a new generation of its wireless technology, with a Zero Connect Box that will loslessly stream any of your HDMI inputs straight to the TV.

LG says the M5 offers a cable-free experience, with “true wireless” that streams a “visual lossless” image from the set-top box, which no longer needs to be in the line of sight of the display itself. With full support for 144Hz, 4K, and VRR (with G-Sync and Freesync support), the M5 OLED could make for a great option for cable-conscious setups.

Sony’s Future Immersive Entertainment Concept: The Last of Us comes to life

At CES, Sony debuted its Future Immersive Entertainment Concept, which is essentially a room filled with Sony Crystal LED panels that visitors can explore and interact with, fully fitted with haptics, audio, and even smells that can immerse its users into experiences. In the demo, a showcase where users can “enter” the world of The Last of Us was showcased. While you might not be able to bring this one home with you, it’s a fresh take on the “immersive” experience that doesn’t rely on VR headsets. We just hope that its smell-o-vision system is a bit more impressive than last year’s GameScent.

PlayStation video game movies level up

At CES, Sony announced movies based on its hit PlayStation games Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn, as well as an anime series based on Ghost of Tsushima that debuts exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027.

And finally... the Nintendo Switch 2 in plain sight?

A mockup of the Nintendo Switch 2 appeared at CES this week — and the company behind it insists it’s based on the real thing.

Gaming accessories maker Genki is showing off its Switch 2 mockup to press at the Consumer Electronics Show, and based on a report from French publication Numerama, it has plenty to say about Nintendo’s unannounced next-gen console.

Fast and Furious Star Vin Diesel Posts The Rock Photo After 'Hey, Dwayne' Golden Globes Comment Revives Feud

Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel has walked back the dig he made at Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson while presenting an award at the 2025 Golden Globes.

As reported by Variety, Diesel posted an older photo of him and Johnson on Instagram alongside the caption "All love... Always." This comes after Diesel poked fun at the infamous feud between him and Johnson by saying "Hey, Dwayne" during his award presentation and enjoying the audience's laughter.

"Hey, Dwayne." – Vin Diesel addresses The Rock from the Golden Globes stage pic.twitter.com/IrhJ7vYkCo

— IGN (@IGN) January 6, 2025

Despite starring alongside each other in Fast 5, Furious 6, and Fast and Furious 7, with Diesel playing Dominic Toretto and Johnson playing Luke Hobbs, a spat arose between the two and was made public when Johnson called Diesel a "chicken s**t" and "candy-ass" co-star.

Diesel told Men's Health this was because of the "tough love" he gave Johnson, "to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be."

Hobbs will seemingly return in the upcoming Fast X: Part 2, a sequel to the 10th mainline film due for release in 2026, after a post-credits tease.

Johnson posted on X/Twitter in 2023 that he and Diesel "put all the past behind us," and will "lead with brotherhood and resolve." They "always take care of the franchise, characters, and fans that we love," he said.

Monster Hunter Wilds Second Open Beta Announced — but Don’t Expect Improvements Set for Launch to Make It In

Capcom has announced a second open beta for Monster Hunter Wilds ahead of its release date.

The beta includes the content from the first beta but adds returning monster Gypceros to hunt. You’ll get to use the character realtor, play the story trial, and complete the Slay Doshaguma Quest. Capcom said those who played the first beta can transfer their character to the second beta, and then onto the full game release. Game progress, however, does not carry forward, but those who take part in the test get special bonuses that can be redeemed in the full game, including a decorative charm for your weapon or Seikret, and an item pack.

Capcom warned fans that improvements it has already announced are set for the full release will not make it into the second open beta. This includes performance improvements, balance changes, weapon mechanics, and other known issues.

Monster Hunter Wilds’ second open beta goes live February 6 at 7pm PT, and runs until February 9 at 6.59pm PT. If you miss out on that, don’t worry: another beta weekend is set for the following weekend (February 13 to 16). Monster Hunter Wilds then launches proper on February 28.

Monster Hunter Wilds is the subject of the latest IGN First, which kicked off with two brand new videos featuring gameplay of Ajarakan and Rompopolo on the Oilwell Basin map. We visited Capcom’s offices in Japan, where we played the first five hours or so of Monster Hunter Wilds, and exclusively faced a few Oilwell Basin local monsters. Look out for more gameplay throughout January, along with in-depth interviews, fun details, and a final preview for Monster Hunter Wilds.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Episode 7 Review

This review contains full spoilers for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Season 1, Episode 7.

After a galaxy-spanning adventure through pirate stations, planet-wide battlefields, and a luxury spa, who would’ve thought the key to getting the crew back home would just be… going back home? Despite all of the secrecy over At Attin’s location and its impenetrable barrier, it turns out that all you need to do is point your spaceship at the planet and fly in (provided you have the right spaceship, which the kids have naturally had this whole time). Not enough happened in this penultimate episode, and what did happen occurred far too easily, making for a rare Skeleton Crew disappointment.

On paper, it seems like this is an eventful episode: The kids and the pirates all make it to At Attin, Jod goes full Bad Guy and executes both Captain Brutus and (apparently) SM-33, and then he finally makes it to At Attin’s legendary treasure hoard. But these events are purely plot points. Previous episodes have given us little emotional explorations of who these kids are, or stories of what it’s like to grow up in a world where adults are either completely absent or checked-out. Sadly, episode 7 just has some things happen and then ends on a frustratingly abrupt and somewhat inexplicable cliffhanger.

Let’s start with that ending, because it drags the whole episode down. Before landing on At Attin, Jod repeatedly snaps at the kids as they try to do their “disarmingly chatty” thing. He ultimately threatens to brutally murder all of their parents (having seen what they look like in the unnecessary message that they sent up through the planetary barrier) if the kids reveal that he’s actually a pirate and not an emissary from the Republic. And yet, having come so close to his dream of infinite money that he seems to be literally on the verge of tears (a great bit of face acting from Jude Law), he decides to risk it all by disrupting the kids’ reunion with their parents, whipping out the lightsaber he nabbed a few episodes ago.

Then the episode ends. The kids don’t blab to their parents. The parents have no reason to believe that Jod isn’t who he claims to be. All Jod needs to do is act cool until he can figure out how to signal the rest of the pirates in orbit. With this cliffhanger, though, we’re left to wonder what happens next: will he attack them or not? If he does, it’s a silly, senseless mistake for him to make. If he doesn’t, then why end the penultimate episode with such a needless question mark?

Nobody in this episode really has to do anything and that saps Skeleton Crew of exciting narrative momentum.

This might not prove to be a problem at all come next week’s finale episode, and Skeleton Crew could certainly resolve this in an interesting way, but the loose logic of the situation drags this episode down. It contributes to making episode 7 a weaker part of what has otherwise been a strong series. And, unfortunately, it’s not the only issue with “We’re Gonna Be In So Much Trouble.”

A few scenes in both this episode and prior chapters have reinforced the idea that it’s impossible to get anything through At Attin’s planet-wide shield – even just a signal. And so the crew’s parents rig up some kind of little transmitter so they can send a message out to space… except the kids are already in orbit. The show solves its own problem before the characters create a solution. Furthermore, the message’s key information is an explanation of how to get through the barrier’s fake lightning storm… which turns out to be irrelevant because the Onyx Cinder was apparently stolen from At Attin and can pass through the storm unharmed anyway.

Before all that, SM-33 reveals that a rule within the Pirate Code dictates that a pirate can only be the captain of one vessel. By killing Brutus and taking over the pirate frigate, Jod therefore cannot be captain of the Onyx Cinder. So, by declaring that the ship is for “kids only” (which, credit where it’s due, is funny), Fern is able to effortlessly retain control of the ship from the pirates—albeit briefly. Nobody in this episode really has to do anything – events just fall into place and all would’ve happened one way or another – and that saps Skeleton Crew of the exciting narrative momentum it had early on.

There is some good stuff here, like an early scene in which the kids toss a ball through the halls of their ship and fondly reminisce about how fun their adventure has been, despite (or because of) how often they’ve come close to dying. It’s a nice moment that lets the kids act like kids, which is when the show is at its best.

Could Robert Pattinson Become the DCU's Batman? Director Matt Reeves Responds

Speculation is ramping up about the DCU’s Batman following the character’s introduction in animated form via Creature Commandos. Meanwhile, Matt Reeves' "Batman Epic Crime Saga" rumbles on, with talks ongoing about The Penguin Season 2 and the delayed The Batman 2 now due out in 2027. Could Robert Pattinson, who plays Batman in The Epic Crime Saga, thus be integrated into the DCU?

That’s the question reporter Josh Horowitz put to Reeves himself at the Golden Globes, and while the director kept his cards close to his chest, he did leave the door open to the possibility.

“It really comes down to whether or not it makes sense,” Reeves replied. “What’s been great is there was a story that I wanted to tell with what we’re calling The Epic Crime Saga and all that, which is the thrust of what we want to do. And it’s been important to me to be able to play that out. And [DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn] and Peter [Safran] have been really, really great about that and they’re letting us do that.

“What the future brings? I can’t really tell you. I have no idea right now except that my head is down now about getting The Batman Part 2 shooting and to make it something really, really special which, of course, is the most important thing.”

Reeves was then asked straight up, what if Gunn and Safran decide they really want Pattinson to be the DCU Batman? “I don’t know,” he replied. “We’ll have to see where that goes.”

So, not an outright refusal or an explanation for why Pattinson would be a poor fit for the DCU, but not an indication that he is a good fit, either.

DC is in the awkward position of having two separate universes running in parallel, and, as a result, two separate Batmans: one in James Gunn's DCU and one in Matt Reeves' Epic Crime Saga. It’s a somewhat confusing proposition for audiences, one that will need to be addressed sooner rather than later, especially given Gunn’s recent comments about the character’s introduction via Creature Commandos.

Warning! Spoilers for Episode 6 of Creature Commandos follow.

Episode 6 of DCU kickstarter Creature Commandos shows Batman standing on a rooftop looking down at crime boss Doctor Phosphorus. The image reveals a mega-stacked Caped Crusader in his iconic costume, but there’s little else that can be discerned about Gunn’s take on the superhero.

Based on comments Gunn issued to Rotten Tomatoes TV following the release of Episode 6, it’s easy to see why this brief look at Batman is so generic. Gunn said he asked for "more silhouette" after the original Batman on show was more detailed than he was ready to commit to at this stage.

What this look at Batman did provide fans with, Gunn explained, was a clear indication that Batman not only already exists within the DCU during the events we’re seeing in Creature Commandos and this year’s Superman movie, but that he is well-known within the universe, and that’s why there’s no need to tell his well-trodden origin story.

Gunn then made an interesting comment that suggested the DCU Batman will team up with Superman at some point.

“This is the DCU Batman,” he said of the Creature Commandos cameo. “Listen I gotta tell you, I just love Batman. I love him. I've loved him since I was a little kid. He's one of my favorite characters. I've gone on the record in the past when I was at Marvel saying my favorite character is Batman. I love him and we're going to do great things with him. He's the most popular superhero in the world and I can't wait for people to see more of him, along with Superman, and together.”

The question is, at what point will we see the DCU Batman properly revealed? Will fans have to wait for the Batman: The Brave and the Bold movie, which doesn’t have a release window, or could Batman make a surprise appearance in another project before then?

The Best LEGO Disney Sets in 2025

The Disney/LEGO partnership goes back a long way, and it encompasses a wide variety of sets. Some of these are meant to appeal mostly for kids. Others are bigger and more complex builds meant for display rather than play, and can easily be appreciated by adults. In any case, here are the 10 best LEGO Disney sets that you can buy in 2025. To make this guide specific and helpful, we are classifying "LEGO Disney" as the sets inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios and Disney Parks.

TL;DR Best LEGO Disney Sets in 2025

Moana's Wayfinding Boat

Visually, this set stands out, because it uses a lot of warm, tropical colors – the types of colors that serve as visual flair in a larger build rather than the principal building bricks themselves. Moana's Wayfinding Boat looks wooden and ornate. Its sail is covered with evocative Motunui art, and even the blankets for the two beds have tribal designs on them. It comes with two Minifigures – Moana and her mother Sina – and a dolphin animal buddy to keep them company.

Mini Disney Castle

If you don't have $400 lying around to buy the big, new castle, you might want to buy its little brother, which costs 1/10 as much. Similar to the new Hogwarts Castle, which is a miniature build of a much bigger, more expensive set, the Mini Disney Castle is impressive for its compactness, and for its ability to suggest a lot with a minimal amount of pieces..

Disney Duos

This is a series of small, charming builds – of iconic Disney film duos that serve as comic relief and levity to the main storyline. They are Meeko and Percy (Pocahontas), Pua and Hei Hei (Moana), Squirt and Nemo (Finding Nemo), and Lumiere and Cogsworth (Beauty and the Beast).

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas

We reviewed this set for its launch, and it has the perfect amounts of whimsical and weird. It's three builds in one – Halloween Town Hall, Jack Skellington's House, and Spiral Hill – rendered in Burton's trademark, off-kilter style, with impossible-looking, angled walls. They're perfect display pieces for a delightful Halloween or a morbid Christmas.

Up House

IGN built this set for its launch, and although it's a bit smaller than you might have hoped, it's got the right price point at $60, and it's got some beautiful details in the living room space. Just manage your expectations – this is more a keepsake than a 'definitive edition' – and you'll be happy with what you get.

Walt Disney Tribute Camera

You build a vintage movie camera, and it comes with a film reel which contains LEGO-ized stills from Disney's classic and modern canon. It also includes five Minifigures: classic black-and-white Mickey Mouse, classic black-and-white Minnie Mouse, Dumbo, Bambi, and of course, Uncle Walt himself.

Stitch

Brightly colored and extremely cute, this LEGO Stitch wears a Hawaiian shirt and comes with two accessories: a flower tucked behind its ear and an ice cream cone in its paw. Its ears are articulable, and even though the age range is 9+, an adult would have a great time building and displaying a set like this one.

Villain Icons

This is a collage of iconic Disney artifacts, including a buildable brick VHS tape of The Little Mermaid, VHS cases of Aladdin and Sleeping Beauty, the pocket watch that the crocodile ate in Peter Pan, a bound book from Beauty and the Beast, and a playing card of Alice in Wonderland's Queen of Hearts. But the best part of the build is the apple from Snow White, freshly dipped in green poison by the Wicked Queen.

Young Simba the Lion King

Nearly a foot tall, this recreation of a young Simba has a big smile and a rounded, cute appearance, with its haunches coiled like he's ready to pounce. It reminds me a bit of those composite mosaic photos, where when you look closer at one, you realize that it's hundreds of little pictures that combine to form a large image. Similarly, this build is such a good fascimile that it looks seamless from a distance. It's only when you get closer that you see its LEGO.

Snow White Cottage

We built and photographed this set for its launch. It is fun to build, and the final result is detailed, colorful, and well-designed, with Minifigures of all seven dwarfs. Thanks to the high piece count, both the exterior and the interior of the cottage remain faithful to the movie that inspired it, and are perfect for staging classic scenes. It even made our list of the best LEGO sets you can find right now.

Disney Castle

This is a massive model of Walt Disney World's Cinderella's Castle in Orlando, Florida, and it's been updated from its prior iteration. The latest set uses pink hued bricks, instead of gray or white ones, for its upper spires. This happened to the real castle in 2020, when the Disney Imagineers decided to give the castle a facelift ahead of its 50 anniversary. The set comes with eight Minifigures: Cinderella, Prince Charming, Snow White, Prince Florian, Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, Rapunzel, and Flynn Ryder.

How Many LEGO Disney Sets are There?

According to LEGO's official store, 83 LEGO Disney sets available for purchase as of January 2025, across multiple age groups and skill levels. Give the entire catalog a look if none of these sets do it for you.

LEGO and Disney: A Perfect Match

LEGO and Disney are a terrific match, in the sense that both companies cast a wide, welcoming net. Disney is not in the business of making children's entertainment; Disney is in the business of making family entertainment. That distinction is crucial, because the implicit intent is for everyone, regardless of age or maturity, to enjoy Disney at the level they are cognitively able.

A small child might like the bright colors and funny characters. An older kid might like the subversion of expectations. And an adult might enjoy Disney as a piece of nostalgic Americana, through which they can revisit their childhoods. Disney is cross-generational, because it appeals to everyone through common, shared experiences.

And LEGO, meanwhile, has nostalgia built into its very ethos. The "System" – the idea that every new brick fits with the old bricks from 50-60 years ago, ensures that bricks and sets and models can pass down, constituting a hobby that moves from parent to child. And now that LEGO, like Disney, is directly appealing to adults as much as kids, the company is more successful than ever.

Nintendo Switch 2 Mockup Spotted at CES, Accessories Maker Alleges Release Month and More

A mockup of the Nintendo Switch 2 has appeared at CES this week — and the company behind it insists it’s based on the real thing.

Gaming accessories maker Genki is showing off its Switch 2 mockup to press at the Consumer Electronics Show, and based on a report from French publication Numerama, it has plenty to say about Nintendo’s unannounced next-gen console.

L'accessoiriste Genki indique posséder la vraie console et expose une maquette 3D + des accessoires.

Les détails ici : https://t.co/5LDlnR2zC1 pic.twitter.com/IJ6taQggIQ

— Numerama (@Numerama) January 8, 2025

According to Numerama, Genki said the Nintendo Switch 2 launches in April, and that its mockup, which you can see in the images in this article, is based on a real Switch 2. Genki also claimed the rumored optical sensor on the Joy-Con (more on that below) is indeed a new feature for the console, but does not know what the mysterious “C” button on the right side of the Joy-Con is for.

Videos of this Switch 2 mockup show how the Joy-Con clip onto the console via magnets, with a button to press for release. As has been reported, the Switch 2 is bigger than the Switch, with a second USB-C port on the top.

Genki has even gone as far as to publish a video allegedly showing a render of the Switch 2 on its website, designed to promote its Switch 2 accessories.

It’s been a busy week for Switch 2 leaks. Following the appearance of alleged images of the Nintendo Switch 2’s internals, fresh images allegedly showing the next-generation console’s Joy-Con appeared online.

The images, which show a left Joy-Con, were reportedly first posted to a Chinese social media website before they made their way to the Nintendo Switch 2 subreddit and western social media.

They include larger SL and SR buttons than on the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, which you’d expect given the Nintendo Switch 2 is reportedly a bigger console than the original. These new Joy-Con allegedly ditch the railed lock method used by the current Switch in favor of electromagnetic suction controllers.

There are what look like soft rubber glide pads at the top and bottom of the side of the Joy-Con, and what looks like a sensor of some kind, perhaps for connecting to other devices or for 3D gesture-controlled input. Some are speculating the Switch 2 Joy-Con could be used as a mouse if turned on its side and placed on a flat surface.

Last week, an image of what appeared to be the Switch 2’s internal components tallied with information suggested by previous image leaks that have helped give us a decent idea of what to expect from Nintendo’s next-gen console.

In September, unverified images — a mix of Computer-aided design (CAD) images and printed circuit board (PCB) photos — that were said to have originated from a Chinese website before making their way onto Reddit, depicted a device similar to the existing Switch console but with a larger screen and magnetic Joy-Con. There is reportedly a USB-C port on the top and bottom of the console, too.

Accompanying the images was an alleged specifications list that mentioned 12GB of RAM (the original Switch has 4GB), and 256GB of internal storage (the original Switch has 32GB). There’s a new "C" button on the right Joy-Con, allegedly, but no-one seems to know what this is for.

We also have a patent, filed July 2023 but published for the first time last week, that describes AI image upscaling technology that would help keep video game download sizes small enough to fit on a physical game cartridge while offering up to 4K textures.

Here’s what we know for sure: Nintendo has confirmed that the yet-to-be-announced Switch 2 will be backward-compatible with original Switch games and will feature Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo has also said it will announce the Switch 2 by the end of March 2025, which means the reveal is fast approaching. As for a release date, the console is not expected to launch during Nintendo's current financial year, so it will arrive April 2025 at the earliest.

We even have developers outright saying they plan to release their upcoming games on the console, with others teasing a Switch 2 release for their games. When Switch 2 does eventually come out, Nintendo expects to have plenty of stock available, which in turn will hopefully combat scalping.
