Pokemon TCG: Phantasmal Flames Boosters Are Back in Stock at Amazon Ahead of Black Friday

Phantasmal Flames is officially out in the wild, ready for Pokémon Trainers worldwide to catch it. Luckily, I'm here to make sure they can do it with more Pokécoins left in their backpacks.

Right now, the Phantasmal Flames Booster Box is under market value compared to TCGplayer, and you could save another $60 on top of that deal if you play your cards right.

This isn't just exclusive to the Booster box either; you can even get Phantasmal Flames and Mega Evolution Booster Bundles for free with Amazon's latest promo card offer in the run-up to Black Friday.

All you need to do is apply for an Amazon Visa card, get accepted, and you'll receive an instant $60 credit on your Amazon account.

Got AMEX or Discover? Use it at checkout to pay $1 off your order for a possible discount of up to 50%. It isn't always available, but 100% worth checking before you commit to buying.

The discount should be applied automatically. Just follow the link here to see if you qualify, or see here for the Discover offer instead.

Of course, I wouldn't give any financial advice, so if you'd struggle not getting into debt with a credit card, it might be best just taking the discounted price as is.

There's always a chance you'll pull the Mega Lucario ex Gold Hyper Rare or SIR or perhaps the Mega Gardevoir ex Gold Hyper Rare or SIR, but there's also some gorgeous full arts to catch such as the Bulbasaur IR, Ivysaur IR and Venusaur ex SIR.

Or you could just follow the hyperlinks and buy them outright, with the Illustration Rares costing far less than a booster bundle if you can't snag the free gift card.

Best Phantasmal Flames Chase Cards You Can Buy Right Now

The good news is Phantasmal Flames is moving to more affordable pricing after it's launch weekend, with over $200 off the Gold Hyper Rare Mega Charizard X ex alone.

There's plenty to chase in this set, but if you want to save more money i'd suggest buying single cards over opening endless boosters.

Here's where to buy the top chase cards right now alongside up-to-date market values.

  1. Mega Charizard X ex - 125/094 Near Mint Holofoil: $809.99
    Market price: $783.68
    Most recent sale: $750
  2. Mega Charizard X ex - 130/094 Near Mint Holofoil: $649.95
    Market price: $641.73
    Most recent sale: $625
  3. Mega Charizard X ex - 109/094 Near Mint Holofoil: $84
    Market price: $55.40
    Most recent sale: $54.98
  4. Mega Lopunny ex - 128/094 Near Mint Holofoil: $58.02
    Market price: $44.58
    Most recent sale: $42.19
  5. Mega Sharpedo ex - 127/094 Near Mint Holofoil: $88.99

Nintendo Issues First Official The Legend of Zelda Movie Photos Showing Link and Zelda In Costume

Nintendo has just released the first set photos showing its The Legend of Zelda live-action movie stars in action.

The images, posted to the Nintendo Today app, are our first official glimpse at Bo Bragason (Zelda) and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Link) in costume, and come as Nintendo itself officially marks the start of production.

Nintendo's confirmation comes days after it was first reported that filming had begun in New Zealand, and shortly after fans discovered the project's shooting location. Over the weekend, unofficial videos shared on social media featured an earlier glimpse at Bragason, Ainsworth and a third actor in the midst of a forest scene.

Following that first set leak, fans now believe Succession star Dichen Lachman has been cast as Zelda's trusty aide Impa, though there's no official confirmation of that today.

For now, these photos show the movie's incarnation of Zelda wearing blue robes similar in color to her Breath of the Wild attire. Ainsworth's version of Link, meanwhile, looks very similar to the hero's look in Twilight Princess, where he sports a dark green tunic.

Officially announced in November 2023, Nintendo's live-action The Legend of Zelda project is being produced by the company's legendary creative boss Shigeru Miyamoto, alongside Avi Arad, former CEO of Marvel Studios. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' Wes Ball is directing, from a screenplay by Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly.

The Legend of Zelda is currently set to arrive in theaters on May 7, 2027, a date shared again by Nintendo this month as it teased plans for a "consistent release cadence" of video game movies over the next few years, following the box office success of its Super Mario Movie.

Last week, Nintendo announced further details of its upcoming animated sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Marvel star Brie Larsen will portray Princess Rosalina in the film, while Bowser Jr. will be voiced by Oppenheimer actor Bennie Safdie. That movie is due a little sooner than Zelda, on April 3, 2026.

Nintendo Resurrects Two Classic Characters For Donkey Kong: Bananza DLC

Donkey Kong 64 fans celebrate! Nintendo will pay tribute to a pair of classic N64 characters via an upcoming Donkey Kong Bananza Emerald Rush DLC challenge.

After years left in the wilderness, both Chunky Kong and Lanky Kong will return in the DLC as "exclusive in-game statues", Nintendo has today confirmed, as part of the upcoming So Strong It's Funny in-game challenge.

The event, set to run from November 25 to December 2, will be set on the game's Hilltop Layer. As of yet, there's no word on exactly how may points players will need to rack up to earn these latest cosmetic items used to decorate DK Island.

Regardless, long-term Kong fans are simply celebrating the fact that Nintendo has referenced these long-lost characters at all, after only a handful of glimpses over the past few decades.

Brawny but gentle Chunky Kong (cousin of Dixie Kong) has only made three video game appearances since his 1999 debut in Donkey Kong 64. He cameos in a Donkey Kong Country 3 mini-game on Game Boy Advance, then pops up as a sticker and spirit in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Ultimate.

Eagle-eyed fans also spotted a split-second appearance by Chunky Kong in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, standing alongside an equally-brief appearance for Diddy and Dixie — though you'll need to pause the film to really know it's him.

Fans had hoped that this appearance, and the fact Nintendo had gone to the trouble of slightly tweaking his design, suggested more appearances for Chunky Kong in future. And indeed, Bananza's upcoming statue seems to feature this same slightly-tweaked look. Could we see more of him in the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie, or perhaps even that long-rumored upcoming Donkey Kong movie spin-off? Time will tell.

The long-armed Lanky Kong, meanwhile, is similarly little-seen. He didn't get a Super Mario Bros. Movie cameo, but did appear as an unlockable character in 2007 Wii racer Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast. Could we be seeing more of him in the future too?

If you haven't picked it up already, Bananza's DLC is stuffed full of references to Donkey Kong 64 and other past classics, with appearances from Diddy, Dixie, Cranky, Squawks the parrot from Donkey Kong Country and DK's house from Donkey Kong Country Returns. Other Kongs referenced (but not seen) include a poster for Candy Kong (don't ask) and a pair of Donkey Konga bongo drums to bounce around on top of.

So now, who's next for a return?

Asus Set to 'Ramp Up Production' on Xbox ROG Ally X Handheld After Initial Demand 'Exceeds Expectations'

The steep price of the Xbox ROG Ally X hasn't held back the handheld, it seems. In a recent investor presentation, hardware manufactuer Asus revealed that demand for its higher-end model was "exceeding expectations" amid an "extremely positive" response from fans.

The firm originally anticipated income of around $96 million to $160 million for the Ally range this financial quarter, but now expects to generated 130 to $160 million in future quarters, something it said had left stock of the ROG Ally X "in short supply."

"As many of you know, we introduced the first generation ROG Ally 2-3 years ago as a market pioneer, over the past couple of years this new category, especially, the Windows ecosystem has proven itself highly successful," Asus said, responding to a query about the handheld system.

"We believe that we have achieved our original goals of premium positioning, creating a new growth driver in our gaming segment," Asus continued. "That's why we released our third-generation ROG Ally last month. It featured deeper collaboration with Xbox. Since its launch, we see the market response for it has been extremely positive, particularly, there has been an appetite for the premium higher-end models, exceeding our expectations.

"These high-ended variants are currently in short supply. We are working closely with key component suppliers to ramp up production and fill the demand gap that exists. Our goal with the ROG Ally is for it to remain a core pillar within the ASUS gaming portfolio."

We thought the Asus ROG Ally X was 'Amazing,' awarding it 9/10 and writing in our review: "From the easy-to-use Xbox Full Screen Experience to the excellent performance from the AMD Z2 Extreme, the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X is easily the best handheld gaming PC available right now."

"At $999, not only is it more expensive than the $799 ROG Ally X, but it’s twice the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 or the Steam Deck," IGN wrote at the time. "Everything is getting more expensive lately, and while the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X is certainly guilty of this — it’s actually pretty reasonably priced compared to other similar devices that’ve launched in the last year," comparing it favorably to the Lenovo Legion Go 2 and MSI Claw A8.

As for Microsoft's first-party handheld? While Microsoft's gaming boss Phil Spencer has previously confirmed his interest in such a device, subsequent reports have suggested the idea has been sidelined. We recently asked Jason Ronald, Microsoft's vice president of Xbox gaming devices and ecosystem, about Microsoft's internal plans to make a first-party Xbox handheld.

Magic: The Gathering's New Final Fantasy 7 Game Edition Commander Decks Are Finally Back in Stock

Amazon has finally restocked preorders for Magic: The Gathering's Final Fantasy 7 Game Edition Commander Deck. It's just in time, with the deck and several other new Final Fantasy MTG products set to release in just a couple of weeks on December 5.

Costing $99.99, the new version of the "Limit Break" Commander Deck offers the same 100-card deck you can find already, but with a download code for the original Final Fantasy 7 on PC, and a new promo card featuring the iconic shot of Cloud in FF7.

The new lineup has been incredibly hard to come by since it was revealed, and preorders sold out within a day. Amazon stocking up with a whole new allocation is great news for fans, and you no longer need to pay inflated prices to third-party sellers.

It's not just a collectible item either; the commander deck itself is absolutely fantastic, and actually dovetails nicely with Fallout’s Scrappy Survivors precon from last year (as long as you're happy with yet another bold RPG crossover).

Limit Break is all about getting your creatures to 7 power to trigger additional effects from Cloud or Tifa, while minimizing equip costs to allow you to switch gear and keep opponents guessing.

Reprint value is decent, too. Not only do you get Darksteel Plate, Sword of the Animist, and Fire-Lit Thicket, but Clever Concealment has some amazing new art of Cloud’s disguise.

Thanks to its Final Fantasy synergies, Stoneforge Mystic has been shooting up in both popularity and price.

This two-mana staple slots perfectly into the equipment-heavy Limit Break deck, tutoring out gear with ease, and the market has noticed, it’s jumped from under $20 to around $50 in recent listings.

That’s some serious stonks, and it could end up being a smart long-term pickup.

Check out the full MTG release schedule for this year to see what expansions are coming next, including Avatar: The Last Airbender. And for more Final Fantasy, consider picking up the 1-6 Pixel Remaster Collection at its lowest price yet in the early Black Friday sales.

Final Fantasy MTG: Best Chase Cards

The set is the most popular in Magic’s long history, and has led to prices skyrocketing for collector’s items like the Travelling Chocobo range and characters like Sephiroth.

Whether you're opening boosters, sorting through prerelease pulls, or keeping tabs on the market for trade value, it's clear this set is drawing serious attention.

If you're curious which cards are in highest demand right now, either to cash in or just to see what the hype is all about, here's a few handy pointers on what to look out for.

U.S. Congressman Blasts Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's Alleged AI Images: 'We Need Regulations That Prevent Companies from using AI to Eliminate Jobs'

A member of U.S. Congress has now called out Activision Blizzard's use of generative AI in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and demanded tighter regulation to "prevent companies from using AI to eliminate jobs."

It's not been the smoothest start for Activision's blockbuster shooter franchise. When Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launched last week, players promptly took to social media to complain about AI-generated images they had found across the game, primarily focusing on calling card images with a Studio Ghibli-esque styling, following a trend of AI-Ghibli images from earlier this year.

Now, in a post on X/Twitter, Californian congressman has Ro Khanna slammed the developer's move to AI to "extract greater profits," writing: "We need regulations that prevent companies from using AI to eliminate jobs to extract greater profits. Artists at these companies need to have a say in how AI is deployed. They should share in the profits. And there should be a tax on mass displacement."

In a follow-up tweet, Khanna added that there should be tax reforms to discourage excessive automation, guardrails should be put in place to protect worker input before deployment — "not a Luddite complete ban" — adding "support unions and workers to bargain for workers' benefitting from productivity gains."

When a commenter suggested that curbing AI investment could stifle innovation, Khanna said: "Innovation and technological advance is patriotic and good for humanity provided it serves people. So we need to think about how it is adopted and how people can still have meaningful work and independence.

"A tax code that doesn't incentivize excessive automation, working input councils so AI is used for augmentation, rules so workers share in AI productivity gains, a plan to hire young grads who may less entry level jobs or to hire displaced workers, a tax on mass displacement and guardrails against them — all these a provisions to ensure a technology revolution benefits ordinary Americans."

Last week, Activision acknowledged its used of "a variety of digital tools, including AI tools," in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, "to empower and support our teams to create the best gaming experiences possible for our players. Our creative process continues to be led by the talented individuals in our studios."

Of course, this isn't the first time Call of Duty has come under fire for AI usage. This exact scenario played out back in February, when Activision admitted that it had used generative AI in the development of Black Ops 6, including in a zombie Santa loading screen that angry fans referred to as "AI slop."

AI isn't the only thing bothering Call of Duty fans, either. Last last week, players realized the story campaign has numerous restrictions tied to its always-online nature, with no method of pausing levels. You'll also be booted from your game if you're idle for too long.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is out now. We've given the campaign a try and awarded it an 'Okay' 6/10, with our reviewer saying it's " a wild one thanks to the scope of its ambition, but the big swings it takes don't always land, leaving it an uneven step down from last year."

Marvel Announces Josh Gad is Joining The MCU As... Josh Gad

Beauty and the Beast and Frozen star Josh Gad will officially become part of the MCU in upcoming Disney+ series Wonder Man, where the actor will portray a fictionalized version of himself.

The casting has been revealed in the latest issue of Disney's D23 Magazine (via The Direct), where Gad's role is described as "an extremely famous version of himself" who rubs shoulders with celebrities within the MCU's version of Hollywood.

The report also states that Gad will demonstrate his singing abilities. Will we also get confirmation that Frozen's Olaf exists in the MCU? Perhaps.

Created by Shangi-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Yahya Abudu Mateen II (previously seen as Black Manta in DC's Aquaman films), the upcoming Marvel show is designed as a superhero comedy set in the entertainment industry, amid the shooting of a new movie based on the series' eponymous superhero.

The series will also see the return of Sir Ben Kingsley's fan-favorite failed actor Trevor Slattery, first seen all the way back in Iron Man 3, and Agent P. Cleary, played by Succession actor Arian Moayed, who previously popped up in Spider-Man: No Way Home as an agent of the United States Deparment of Damage Control.

Marvel has kept relatively quiet about the offbeat series since its filming began in early 2023. After delays caused by that year's SAG-AFTRA strike, the show finally wrapped shooting in April 2024 and has since been sat awaiting release.

As of now, Disney is set to drop all eight episodes of Wonder Man simultaneously via Disney+ on January 27, 2026, kicking off a big year for Marvel. The second season of Daredevil: Born Again will launch on March 4, with WandaVision sequel VisionQuest set to debut later in the year. On the big screen, Spider-Man: Brand New Day launches July 31, before Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18.

PlayStation's DualSense Edge Controller Has Dropped to Just $160 Ahead of Black Friday

Sony's premium PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge wireless controller has fallen to its lowest price yet, and it's landed just in time for the early Black Friday deals rush.

Amazon has the standard white model going for $159.99 with free delivery, which is a $40 instant drop and a full $15 cheaper than the previous best-ever price from earlier this month.

DualSense Edge Controller is $40 off in Early Black Friday Sales

If you prefer the Midnight Black version, that one is still holding at $174.99 as well, but the white model is the more obvious pick this week if you're looking for the best price possible.

I predicted we'd see a discount on these professional-grade gamepads for PlayStation's Black Friday sale this year, but I'm also genuinely surprised the deal is so good. $40 off is no joke for such a good controller.

DualSense Edge sits at the top of Sony's controller lineup, and it earns the spot as the best PS5 controller going. This is a full step up compared to the regular DualSense, which is already a wonderful controller, built for players who want tighter control, adjustable inputs, and hardware that can actually grow with them rather than give up the moment a stick starts drifting.

You get modular analog stick units that can be replaced for $19.99 a piece, so you are not junking a $200 controller over a single failing part. You also get swappable stick caps, mappable rear paddles, custom profiles, and a grip texture that feels noticeably more grounded than the stock DualSense.

The triggers are another highlight. Each one has a hardware slider next to it that lets you choose between standard, medium, or short travel. If you are playing shooters, fighting games, or anything where half a second of trigger pull feels like you are moving underwater, these adjustments make a real difference.

If you like the feel of the regular DualSense but want something built for real tuning and long-term performance, the DualSense Edge finally sits at a price that makes sense. At $159.99, it is the strongest controller deal Sony has offered all year, and realistically, you are not likely to see it drop lower any time soon.

Should You Wait for Black Friday?

If you prefer the Midnight Black edition of the DualSense Edge controller, I'd say it could be worth waiting to see if it'll drop any further, or even match the $160 pricing for the standard white version.

Otherwise, I think this is the best price we're getting on the DualSense Edge controller, and absolutely worth picking up in the run up to the 2025 Black Friday sales. At this price, I can see this selling out before then anyway.

The only other reason to wait, in my opinion at least, is if you're happy to wait and see if Amazon drops its legendary Amazon Resale discounts again for Black Friday. If you're cool with an open box "Used - Like New" controller, the DualSense Edge could drop to around $125 instead. That's a big if, though, as there's no gurantee we'll be seeing those kind of discounts again for the rest of year.

Early Black Friday 2025 Deals

Black Friday discounts are already starting to roll in, and we'll see a whole host of sales go officially live in the next few days across retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and more.

Big new deals include $50 off the Meta Quest 3S at Amazon, now $249, or just $329 for the 256GB version with Batman Arkham Shadow included.

Final Fantasy's I-VI Collection is also at its lowest price yet ahead of Black Friday, $39.99 and $35 off its $74.99 list price. That's for both Switch, and PlayStation.

While Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Acknowledges Deliberate AI Use, Ubisoft Pledges to Remove AI Image That 'Slipped Through' To Anno 117's Final Version

Assassin's Creed publisher Ubisoft has said it will act swiftly to remove an image found within Anno 117: Pax Romana that contains AI-generated elements, which it says was not designed to be included in the game's final version.

Fans of the city-building Anno franchise quickly spotted a loading screen featured in the series' latest entry that was not of the same quality seen in others, with some telltale signs of AI generation: missing limbs, low-quality features and oddly composited elements.

As posted on reddit, and first reported by Kotaku, the game's Steam listing also features a warning that "AI tools were used tp help create some in-game assets." In a statement to IGN, Ubisoft noted that the image had been a "placeholder" and provided a final, human-made version of the artwork it had meant to include instead.

"This image was a placeholder asset that unintentionally slipped through our review process," a Ubisoft spokesperson said. "The final image is attached here and will replace the current version of this artwork with the upcoming 1.3 patch.

"With Anno 117: Pax Romana being our most ambitious Anno yet, we've assembled the largest team of artists ever for the franchise and to help meet the project's unique scope, they use AI tools for iterations, prototyping, and exploration. Every element players will experience in the final game reflects the team's craft, artistry, and creative vision."

Still, the final version of the image simply looks to have been retouched to clean up the original image's more wonky elements — suggesting that anything else AI-generated which did look passable will remain.

Regardless, Ubisoft's response differs from that of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 publisher Activision, which hit the headlines last week by simply acknowledging the widespread use of AI-generated imagery in its latest blockbuster shooter — particularly in its Studio Ghilbi-inspired calling cards. In a statement, Activision said its AI use was designed to "empower and support our teams to create the best gaming experiences possible for our players."

Activision previously acknowledged the use of AI imagery in last year's Black Ops 6, too — though only after fans pointed out a particularly egregious example of a six-fingered zombie Santa.

Outside of its AI use, Ubisoft's Anno 117: Pax Romana has otherwise been warmly received. The game "is a gorgeous antique city-builder that sucked me in for dozens of hours," IGN wrote in our Anno 117: Pax Romana review, awarding the game a 9/10 score.

'Lawyers Are Most Likely Already Watching Everything We Do': Fans Attempting to Revive Doomed PlayStation Live-Service Game Concord Take Stock After 'Worrying Legal Action'

Sony has issued takedown notices for videos showcasing a fan-led project that's bringing doomed PlayStation live-service game Concord back to life.

PlayStation's quickly-binned hero shooter Concord was one of the biggest flops in the compay's history. Amid disastrously low player numbers, Sony pulled the game offline just two weeks after launch, with one estimate suggesting it sold just 25,000 copies. It proved a costly failure for Sony, with hundreds of millions of dollars wasted. Its developer, Firewalk Studios, closed shortly thereafter.

Despite its brief life, or perhaps because of it, Concord remains of interest — with a dedicated group of players dedicating "months" of work to getting the game back online again, reverse-engineering the code and using private servers to host online matches of Clash Point. And now, it seems, Sony has taken notice.

"After a long time of reverse engineering [and] server development, we just managed to play a match of Concord!" the team announced on Discord (thanks, The Game Post). "The project is still WIP, it's playable, but buggy. Once our servers are fully set up, we'll begin doing some private playtesting, if anyone here wants to join those playtests, let me know (include what region/time zone you are in for convenience)."

While the volunteer developers admitted the build could be "buggy," the team managed to get the main menu, character select screen, and matchmaking working again, with one team member saying, "the project is still a [work in progress but] it's playable."

Around this time, volunteers began sharing videos and images of their project in action and posted them to YouTube. But news of the project gained traction, it also appears to have caught the eye of Sony, which has seemingly begun striking down the videos with copyright notices.

Fans behind the rebuilt game appear keen to make clear their attempt only provides server access to players who had legitimately bought the game, rather than anyone using or sharing "copyrighted files." In a message on the fan project's Discord: "I know this sucks for people who got forcefully refunded, but lawyers are most likely already watching everything we do and I want to ensure this project stays as legal as we realistically can do. We will be removing any posts containing links to copyrighted files."

Despite this, however, the group leaders have now paused invitations, stating they had received "worrying legal action."

In February 2022, Jim Ryan, then-PlayStation's boss, announced that the company would launch more than 10 new live-service games by March 2026, and spent big on studio buyouts as part of the drive, bringing in Destiny developer Bungie, Jade Raymond's Haven Studios (Raymond has since left the company), and the now-shuttered Firewalk Studios.

Since then, however, Sony has cancelled a slew of projects, including a live-service God of War title in development at Bluepoint, and another live-service title being made by Days Gone developer Bend. Firesprite also previously ditched a live-service Twisted Metal project, while Insomniac was known to have worked on a live-service co-op Spider-Man game titled The Great Web, and Naughty Dog's live-service The Last of Us multiplayer effort was also ditched after years of work. And then there was Concord.

Now, however, Sony has reflected on its progress in transforming PlayStation into a company that runs a suite of successful live-service games, and the company's chief financial officer, Lin Tao, acknowledged during Sony's latest financial results briefing that the plan was "not entirely going smoothly."

Final Fantasy I-VI Collection Drops to All-Time Low Price in Early Black Friday Sales

Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster Collection just hit its best price ever ahead of the Black Friday sales. It’s sitting at $40 right now, down from the usual $75, which is a clean 47% cut and even beats the recent Prime Day offer by another five bucks.

Break it down, and the value is absurd. Based on HowLongToBeat times, you’re looking at roughly 30 cents per hour of classic Final Fantasy if you work through the whole bundle.

In a market where new releases can run you double this package for a fraction of the content, that’s downright generous. These Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 editions also run perfectly on Switch 2 and PS5, so you’re covered on the hardware front.

Maybe you’ve recently discovered Final Fantasy because of the Magic: The Gathering crossover, and you’re curious where those characters and creatures actually come from.

This is the easiest way to get the full tour. You’re getting the first six games with modern touches like adjustable EXP gain, toggleable encounters, and auto-battle, all of which make these versions the most approachable they’ve ever been.

Not long ago, the physical edition was one of those almost impossible-to-find collector items. Reprints finally fixed that, and now all six games cost about half the price of a single new release.

As I mentioned, it's the best price ever on this collection, so you're getting the best deal possible (backed up by trusted price trackers like CamelCamelCamel).

Should You Wait for Black Friday?

Probably not. When a deal hits an all-time low during the run up to Black Friday, that’s usually the signal that retailers have already fired their biggest shot for deals like this.

This collection doesn’t swing up and down like mainstream blockbusters, and Square Enix hasn’t been in the habit of pushing deeper cuts on it outside the major tentpole events. The last meaningful drop was during Prime Day, and this price already beats that.

Plus, physical stock also isn’t guaranteed to sit around forever. This is still a niche collector-leaning release, and once the early Black Friday rush cleans out retailers, you’re at risk of FOMO.

Could Black Friday proper knock off another dollar or two? In theory. In practice, retailers use early Black Friday offers to test demand, and if something sells well at an all-time low, they don’t bother dropping it further. So if you’ve been waiting for the right moment to grab this set, in my expert opinion, this is the moment.

More Early Black Friday Deals

Black Friday discounts are already starting to roll in, and we'll see a whole host of sales go officially live in the next few days across retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and more.

Big new deals include $50 off the Meta Quest 3S at Amazon, now $249, or just $329 for the 256GB version with Batman Arkham Shadow included.

The DualSense Edge controller is also down to just $159.99 at Amazon today as well.

The Legend of Zelda Movie Set Leak Appears to Show First Live-Action Footage of Link and Zelda

Set videos purportedly featuring Link and Zelda in Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda movie have been shared online — giving fans a first glimpse at the characters in action.

As previously reported, The Legend of Zelda has now begun shooting in New Zealand, and several fans have seemingly discovered exactly where. Videos posted to social media over the weekend appear to show a scene filmed in a woodland location where both Bo Bragason (Zelda) and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Link) can be spotted.

And that's not all — a third character can also be seen, who fans have widely surmised is Impa. Here, Zelda's trusty aide looks to be played by none other than Severance's Dichen Lachman.

so we got our first set leak from the zelda movie

i wonder if that's supposed to be impa handing zelda a sword? 🥺pic.twitter.com/UiqDlTzONp

— bea (@SlLENTPRINCESS) November 15, 2025

Nintendo is yet to officially confirm Lachman's casting, though apart from it looking very much like the actress, fans have noted that she previously worked with the project's director, Wes Ball, on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Zelda is dressed in blue robes, akin to those seen in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Link, meanwhile, wears his classic green garb, as seen in Ocarina of Time. The colorings fit with pre-production photos released alongside Bragason and Ainsworth's initial casting announcement.

It's hard to make out what's happening in the scene itself, as it's filmed at some distance. However, Impa appears to be handing Zelda a sword in a forest clearing as the pair are surrounded by knights and horses. Could one of them be Epona? As for what this moment might be based on, no direct comparison to the games comes to mind.

Officially announced in November 2023, Nintendo's live-action The Legend of Zelda project is being produced by the company's legendary creative boss Shigeru Miyamoto, alongside Avi Arad, former CEO of Marvel Studios. Jurassic World’s Derek Connolly has written the screenplay.

Details of the project remain largely under-wraps, other than a rather generic-sounding basic plot outline which describes the film thus:

"The Legend of Zelda follows Link, a young warrior destined to protect the magical kingdom of Hyrule from the forces of darkness. The land is under threat from Ganon, a ruthless warlord who seeks the Triforce — an ancient relic said to grant limitless power. To stop him, Link must embark on a perilous journey, battling monstrous creatures, exploring treacherous dungeons, and solving intricate puzzles to uncover sacred artifacts that can aid him in his quest."

The Legend of Zelda is currently set to launch on May 7, 2027, a date shared again by Nintendo this month as it teased plans for a "consistent release cadence" of video game movies over the next few years, following the box office success of its Super Mario Movie.

To redeem Brainrot Revolution codes, boot up the game and, once you’re in, follow the steps below:

  1. After booting up the game, look on the left-hand side of the screen and you'll see a shop icon. It's represented by a red shopping basket.
  2. Click this icon to bring up the shop menu.
  3. On the right-hand side of the shop menu, you'll see an icon labelled "codes."
  4. Click it to be taken down to the codes bar.
  5. Type in your chosen code and then hit Verify to redeem your code.

Why Isn't My Brainrot Evolution Code Working?

If your Brainrot Evolution code isn’t working, it’s likely due to one of two scenarios. The first is that the Brainrot Evolution code was input incorrectly. Check the spelling and that the case is correct, then redeem again. You can even copy and paste the codes directly from this article over to Roblox if you want to make sure you’re inputting them correctly.

The other possibility is that the code has expired or you’ve already used it. In this scenario, you should see an error message pop up below the code bar informing you that the code has already been redeemed or is invalid.

How to Get More Brainrot Evolution Codes

If you're on the hunt for more Brainrot Evolution codes, you'll want to search several spots. The most common place to find new codes is the game's Discord server. The team posts new codes alongside every update, and you'll be able to find them in the announcements channel. Unique codes also crop up on the i2Perfect YouTube channel and xFrozen Studios' X account, so it's always worth checking both social media pages in case new codes have dropped there.

What is Brainrot Evolution in Roblox?

Brainrot Evolution is incredibly similar to xFrozen Studios' other popular Roblox evolution sim, Cabybara Evolution. You start out as a lowly Brainrot minion and must fight your way to evolve, growing to inhabit more powerful forms, including Bombardiro Crocodilo, Tralalero Tralala, and Chimpanzini Bananini. All the while, you'll be able to buff your character with purchasable pets, unlock gear with loot chests and take on towering bosses to cement yourself as the ultimate life form at the top of the Brainrot hierarchy.

It: Welcome to Derry - Episode 4 Review

Spoilers follow for It: Welcome to Derry Episodes 1-4.

So far, I’ve found the scariest thing about It: Welcome to Derry by a significant margin to be the downward trend of the episodes’ quality. “The Great Swirling Apparatus of Our Planet's Function” turns things around for the series at the season’s critical midpoint, with some of the best drama and horror we’ve seen from Welcome to Derry yet turning the temperature up to a rolling boil.

Armed with the photos from last week’s odious cemetery setpiece, Welcome to Derry’s core group of kids (assuming no more slate-wipes like the premiere) - Lilly, Ronnie, Will and Rich - march into Chief Bowers’ office to find the dollar store ghoul children they’d captured have disappeared from their pictures. Even though the clown’s still visible, Bowers quickly sends the kids packing, which should come as little surprise given how little this guy seems interested in solving crimes in Derry. Peter Outerbridge has done nice work to this point playing Bowers’ simmering rage in moments like these, far more in control of himself than his grandson (Losers’ Club nemesis Henry Bowers) will go on to be, and the tighter he gets wound by the escalating events in town, the scarier he’s getting.

That tension carries Charlotte’s conversation with him about Hank Grogan’s treatment in custody, which touches on Charlotte’s experiences as a civil rights freedom fighter in the South. Outerbridge and Taylour Paige engage in a polite-but-terse back and forth about the racial dynamics at play here that gives both performers an opportunity to have two conversations at once, and Bowers’ unconvincing insistence that Derry “isn’t the South” and that Hank Grogan’s getting the same fair shake as a white person would only adds to the sinister atmosphere. That’s underlined when Charlotte does get to see Hank, as we learn that he was having an affair with a white woman in town at the time of the murders he’s accused of and terrified he’ll be lynched as a result.

Welcome to Derry has positioned Hank as pure good, so it’s worth us taking that fear to the bank. Stephen Rider turns in his best work of the season so far here, as Hank is overcome with emotion at Charlotte’s suggestion that his refusal to give his alibi is anything but a sacrifice to keep his family and his secret lover safe. With how acutely concerned Hank seems to be about that lover’s identity as it relates to everyone’s safety should the news get out (and it will), the smart money seems to be on that being the spouse of a Derry cop. Seems like the kind of thing that would make Chief Bowers totally snap if that sort of controversy came to his doorstep…

While Charlotte and Leroy are at odds over how much to get involved in Hank’s case, thanks to some smart deductive reasoning on Will’s part, the kids have figured out that It feeds on fear. Here, Welcome to Derry seeds a “Chekov’s gun” bound to backfire on them in later episodes: Lilly gives each of her friends one of “Mommy’s little helpers”, her mom’s anxiety meds which Lilly thinks will keep the kids from feeling fear. Loose pills and Pennywise: a match made in Derry. I’m both excited and full of dread to see how Welcome to Derry’s going to pay this one off. It speaks to the overall narrative efficiency of “Planet’s Function”, both in how it looks back on threads from the first three episodes and provides meaningful updates, and in the dominoes it sets up for itself to knock down in the back half of the season.

As for the back half of this episode, once “Planet’s Function” gets done with its homework laying track for the rest of the season… it’s party time. The second half of “Planet’s Function” goes from strength to strength, starting with Will and Leroy’s encounter on the Kenduskeag River as Leroy puts in some effort to bond with Will as the school year starts to get away from both of them. Jovan Adepo and Blake Cameron James’ easy chemistry shines for what really feels like the first time here, as Leroy needles Will about a crush on Ronnie Grogan and gives him pointers on his fly fishing. As Leroy pops back to the car, Will’s pulled under the water by something wearing Leroy’s burned face, which in his frantic recap to his dad Will likens to how Leroy looked after a plane crash earlier in his career. This was another great example of how Welcome to Derry has been able to use these brushes with Pennywise to shade in details about the characters’ backstories, or fears, in a way that feels natural and satisfying. And Marge’s prank on Lilly gone wrong keeps that ball rolling in an eye-popping, delightfully Raimiesque fashion.

...the math starts to add up and this week, 2+2 = ew, ew, ew, ew.

Welcome to Derry’s 1960s setting and heavy emphasis on Americana leaves simpler archetypes and tropes like an unpopular girl who’s sensitive about her coke bottle glasses feeling quite potent, so when the camera lingers on Marge squirming over a nature film in class about parasites that live in the eyes of snails, the math starts to add up and this week, 2+2 = ew, ew, ew, ew. The “Pattycakes vs. Lilly” thread has felt under-cooked up to this point, and while I still don’t buy Marge’s turn on Lilly in exchange for popularity, it has at least led us to Welcome to Derry’s best gross-out moment yet. As Marge decides to back out of the prank and be honest with Lilly about her behavior, her eyes brutally Judge Doom out of her head, sending Marge stumbling into the wood shop to bring this ocular omnishambles to an unforgettable conclusion.

Sure, Marge’s snail eyes have that terrible CG sheen so much of the scary stuff in Welcome to Derry has been the victim of, but the entire sequence is so nightmarish and arch to begin with that the authenticity of Matilda Lawler’s reactions carry the effects through. It is some Evil Dead shit of the highest order, and I’ve always got space in my heart for that. The episode could’ve ended right at that fever pitch, but instead, we’re treated to an extended flashback sequence that adds some intriguing new detail to the legend of Pennywise with a ton of flair, thanks to Dick Hallorann’s “shine.”

With Will’s attack fresh on his mind, Leroy grills both Hallorann and Shaw about the true nature of Operation Precept.. That gives Leroy a front row seat to Hallorann’s psychic interrogation of Taniel, a member of Derry’s Indigenous community and Rose’s nephew, as Hallorann seeks answers on the “beacons” or “pillars” connected to Pennywise buried under Derry. Hallorann finds himself in a dark void of back-lit doors (cool), doors which his grandmother’s ghostly voice has been urging him to keep closed (a nice nod to some Hallorann family history we learn in Doctor Sleep). Hallorann enters a memory of Taniel’s wherein his aunt Rose asks him to recount their tribe’s legend of The Galloo, their name for It. One level deeper in Taniel’s mind, the legend plays out as we see both It’s arrival on earth and how Rose and Taniel’s ancestors were the first to figure out how to counteract it.

Taniel’s story plays out at exciting pace, almost like a snappy, self-contained It short film to end the episode, and with an extra level of danger added by virtue of the fact that this is all being perceived in real-time by Hallorann. Last week’s episode saw Pennywise speak to him while he was shining, so for Hallorann to be bearing witness to such a sensitive chapter of It’s history while being psychically vulnerable gave the sequence a deep sense of unease, which the sound design reinforces nicely. The low-end warbles evoke Stanley Kubrick’s sound mix for The Shining while Hallorann and Danny were having visions. The information Hallorann gets from Taniel’s story also lends the nature of Operation Precept a touch more nuance and logical connection to Pennywise’s cosmological origins than I’d first anticipated. Welcome to Derry still has work to do to convince me that Operation Precept’s going to be worth our time, but at the very least, some of what Hallorann’s vision reveals gives it a stronger foundation.

  1. Open the Dress to Impress Roblox Experience.
  2. Click on the handbag icon on the left-hand side to open the DTI Codes menu.
  3. Enter your code in the "Type here..." field.

Why Isn't My Dress to Impress Code Working?

If the code you're trying to redeem in DTI isn't working, it's likely because of one of two reasons:

  • The Dress to Impress code is expired
  • There's a spelling mistake in the code

When inputting a DTI code in Roblox, make sure it's spelled correctly (for example, a capital I isn't a lowercase l, 0 and not O, and vice versa) and that there are no spaces before or after the code. We'd recommend copying and pasting codes straight from our article to ensure they're correct as we've tested and verified that the codes on this page are working ourselves.

If your DTI code still isn't working after checking for typos, it's more than likely expired and can no longer be redeemed in Dress to Impress.

Why Isn’t Pennywise in The Running Man?

This article contains spoilers for The Running Man (2025).

There are a number of burning questions lingering at the end of Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Stephen King/Richard Bachman’s The Running Man. How effective is the revolution fomented by Ben Richards (Glen Powell)? What happened to Amelia Williams (Emilia Jones) after she jumped out of a plane? But the one question that burns brighter than a boarding house lit up by accidentally ignited adult magazines is: Why isn’t Pennywise the Dancing Clown in The Running Man?

Okay, this probably requires some explanation, so let’s take a step back. This newest iteration of The Running Man takes place in the near-distant future as we follow Richards on the run as part of the titular game show. He needs to stay alive for 30 days while the world reports on him and elite Hunters, including the masked McCone (Lee Pace), track him down. Over the course of the two-hour-plus movie, Richards stays on the move throughout the East Coast, traveling from what is likely New York City (though not specified) to Boston to – and this is where Pennywise comes into play – Derry, Maine.

That last town is a classic fictional location from multiple King stories and novels, with the first reference appearing in his 1981 short story, “The Bird and the Album.” Following further references in The Running Man – published under the Bachman pen name on May 4, 1982 – and Different Seasons’ “The Body” (later the basis for Stand by Me) that same year, it then turned up in Pet Sematary in 1983, and two other short stories. “Uncle Otto’s Truck” (also 1983) and 1984’s “Mrs. Todd’s Shortcut” were later collected in the 1985 anthology, Skeleton Crew.

While King set more stories in the town of Castle Rock, and only three books were set mostly in Derry proper (including 11/22/63 and Insomnia), there is of course one novel that is most associated with the town: 1986’s It. You’re probably familiar with the bones of that one thanks to the resurgent popularity of the novel tied to the HBO prequel series, It: Welcome to Derry, but the short version is that there’s an evil clown named Pennywise who lives in the sewers and eats children. He’s also a supernatural alien/avatar of chaos who is nearly immortal until a bunch of kids known as the Losers Club yell at him until he dies.

Midway through the new 2025 film adaptation of The Running Man, Richards is sent to what’s supposed to be a safehouse thanks to Bradley Throckmorton (Daniel Ezra), a rebel against the Games Network that controls every aspect of American life and produces The Running Man game show. Richards flips over a card handed to him by Throckmorton to show the address he’s headed to, and if you’ve seen the movie, you likely heard a laugh of recognition from the audience when it’s revealed that he’s heading to Derry.

Welcome to… Well, You Know

Once Richards gets there, he does not encounter Pennywise at any point, nor does he head into a sewer or visit the house on Neibolt Street that offers access to Pennywise’s domain. There are no red balloons or other noticeable references to It; nobody floats down here in The Running Man, because they’re too busy running. Instead, Richards heads to the house of Elton Parrakis (Michael Cera), an inventor who publishes zines trying to take down the system, and who has a very complicated relationship with hot dogs.

Even though there is no real connection to the events of It in the movie’s Derry sequence, it’s difficult to get It out of your mind. Parrakis lives with his insane mother, Victoria (Sandra Dickinson), who has been damaged by past events in Derry thanks to her husband – Elton’s dad – being beaten up and killed thanks to his rebel hot dog cart (there’s more to it, but that’s the broad strokes). She’s very reminiscent of the also-damaged Pennywise-infected adults from It, in particular the sweaty, creepy Mrs. Kersh (Joan Gregson) from It Chapter Two.

To be clear, Victoria is definitely not Pennywise; she’s just a crazy old lady. But when Richards and Parrakis are attacked by the police, the sequence ends with them sliding down a firepole to an area below Parrakis’s house. It’s hard at that point not to think, “Underground in Derry? That’s where Pennywise lives!” Sure, it’s a secret tunnel and not a sewer, but wouldn’t it have been great if Pennywise popped his terrifying head into the action? And you know who loves secret tunnels? Pennywise the Dancing Clown!

Not Clowning Around

There are several good reasons Pennywise is not in The Running Man. The simplest, most straightforward, and easily the most boring reason is that the two movies, despite both being based on Stephen King novels, are from two different companies; It, its sequel, and the currently running prequel miniseries are all produced by Warner Bros. Discovery, and The Running Man is produced by Paramount. While that wouldn’t necessarily preclude including a reference to It in The Running Man, having actor Bill Skårsgard show up in full clown gear would likely be a no-go. Sure, these kinds of character trades have happened between companies before – see the complicated rights between Sony and Disney re: Spider-Man for more on that – but figuring out contracts so a clown can briefly appear in an otherwise unrelated movie just doesn’t make a lot of business sense.

Okay, that was no fun, so let’s pivot to some less dry explanations. One of them? The Running Man takes place in the future. While the new movie doesn’t specify the time period, the original Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, which strays vastly from the book, is set in 2017. More to the point, the King/Bachman book is set in the unimaginable future year of 2025. Regardless of how the Wright/Powell movie squares with this, The Running Man is set beyond any known timeline for It, either in the movies or the book; that book is set in 1957-1958 and later in 1984-1985, while the recent movies are set in 1988-1989 and 2016.

Why specify this? Well – spoilers for the end of It – the Losers Club (aka the kids who were plagued by Pennywise) destroy the clown for good as adults. Even if for some insane reason the new Running Man is set in 2017 and links up with the timeline of the new movies, Pennywise was still defeated a year earlier. But given the more likely possibility that The Running Man is set sometime in “our” future, it’s been years if not decades since the Losers Club purged Derry of Pennywise’s influence. He can’t show up… because he’s dead.

Another very good reason Pennywise isn’t there is because while many of King’s books contain references to each other, canonically they’re all part of a King multiverse but not the same direct continuity. It’s likely that King was planting some fun easter eggs for fans throughout his writing, but didn’t start to tie them all together until his landmark fantasy series, The Dark Tower. The simple version presented there is that at the center of the multiverse is the titular Tower, and everything grows out of it like spokes of a wheel. So, for example, the events of It may have canonically happened in both Dreamcatcher and The Mist, but the events of Dreamcatcher did not happen in the world of The Mist and vice versa. There’s even a spoke of the King multiverse where King exists as a writer, which raises a whole host of other questions. Then there are King novels and stories that just exist as is, unconnected from anything else.

Different Spokes for Different Folks

Confusing, right? You really don’t need to worry about it unless you’re a hardcore King head, and even then, it’s not really important to the enjoyment of his novels. Given that King wrote The Running Man under his Bachman pen name years before he released It, there’s no reason to think the version of Derry that Richards visits and the version where Pennywise eats a little kid named Georgie are on the same spokes of the wheel anyway. It certainly could be that they are, but King has never specified whether the Bachman books – which also include Rage (1977), The Long Walk (1979), Roadwork (1981), Thinner (1984), The Regulators (1996), and Blaze (2007) – are connected to his other work in any way other than that Derry mention and him existing as a writer in Thinner (remember, he wrote that as Bachman, so it sort of makes sense in that case).

But the real reason Pennywise isn’t in The Running Man? It’s because that would have been too hilarious, too awesome – perhaps the funniest thing ever committed to screen. Edgar Wright didn’t put Pennywise the Dancing Clown in The Running Man because, to not mince words, he’s a coward. A braver man would have had Pennywise pop up in that tunnel below Parrakis’ house and chase Glen Powell for the rest of the movie or at least to the Derry border before he gave up and went looking for some kids to snack on.

...Because that would have been too hilarious, too awesome – perhaps the funniest thing ever committed to screen.

Or how about this? Have Pennywise as one of the contestants on The Running Man! The whole purpose of the game show is ostensibly to punish criminals, and Pennywise is a millennia-old child murderer. He’s a perfect contestant for Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), the show’s producer, to recruit. If you subbed Pennywise in for Ben Richards, though, the former would win The Running Man easily. While the movie tries to tell us that Richards is a master of disguise thanks to (poorly) gluing on a mustache, or pretending to be a blind priest, Pennywise can look like anyone or anything at any time. Unlike Powell, who just can’t hide his chiseled, pleasantly stubbled chin, Pennywise can look like a small child, or one of the Hunters, or even a giant clown-spider; the latter would probably draw too much attention, but he could do that if he wanted to. Heck, he could make himself into a mailbox so he could mail the daily video tapes that cause Richards so many problems throughout the movie.

Even beyond the whole disguise thing, nobody knows the sewers of Derry better than Pennywise. While McCone and his Hunters stumble around in the dark, Pennywise would always be two steps ahead of them, easily evading capture and winning the billion dollar prize at the end of 30 days. What would Pennywise, an ancient entity from a race known as Deadlights, do with that much money? That’s unclear, but it sure would be fun to watch.

You hear us, Paramount? Make that deal with WBD. The people want – nay, they demand – Pennywise to appear in a sequel, and I’ll see you in the theater in a few years when The Running Man 2: The Floating Man, Part 1 – Welcome (Back) To Derry comes out!

Dispatch Review

We’ve seen stories built around redemption arcs plenty of times before, and if I’m being honest, I’m a total sucker for them. A sarcastic baddie who, despite their disdain for the law, gains enough empathy to save the day – what’s not to like? After eight episodes full of cliffhangers, surprising plot twists, and patience-testing puzzles, Dispatch has finished its own rumination on the topic, allowing me to take a more active role in determining who amongst its strong cast of charming superheroes deserves a second chance. It’s fitting, then, that developer AdHoc Studio has similarly revived a style of video game I worried was fading into the background, confidently injecting the interactive narrative genre with exciting new life.

Dispatch takes place in a captivating bizarro Los Angeles where superpowered beings, aliens, demons, and all manner of extraordinary humanoids coexist with regular people. As you can imagine, not every gifted being is benevolent, and many choose (or are forced into) a life of villainy. To help manage the onslaught of supers roaming the streets, an organisation called the SDN has stepped in, launching an insurance-type racket that allows citizens to pay for the privilege of a powerful watchdog. One of the aforementioned good guys is our discerning protagonist, Robert Robertson — otherwise known as Mecha Man — whose heroic aspirations are dashed when a rogue explosive renders his suit useless, leaving him to take on the role of a call centre worker at a small branch of the SDN.

That’s not all, though, as due to his lack of tenure, Robert is tasked with managing a group of barely reformed villains, lovingly called the Z-team, whose snarky attitudes and violent tendencies leave a lot to be desired. Across Dispatch’s approximately eight-hour runtime, it’s compelling to watch Robert grow in the wake of this sudden downgrade, experiencing the peaks and valleys of shift work. I found myself invested from start to finish thanks to Dispatch’s grounded, witty writing and the heartfelt performances delivered by its sizable cast.

Your time with Dispatch is split into two distinct parts: most of the time, you’ll be chatting through beautifully animated cutscenes, picking between amusing dialogue options and completing quick-time events like those seen in The Wolf Among Us or the Life is Strange series. Certain decisions trigger a heart-pounding ‘X Person remembered that’ notification at the top of the screen, which feels like a refreshing jolt of nostalgia in 2025. Not every decision is as impactful as you might expect, and more often than not, my choices led to unique jokes or funny animations rather than game-shifting consequences. Crucially, though, when the credits finally rolled — avoiding any spoilers — the ending I received still felt true to my version of Robert. It says something that I’m keen to jump in again, to see how the other narrative branches pan out.

It says something that I’m keen to jump in again after rolling credits.

The rest of your time is spent working at the SDN as a Dispatcher, assigning superheroes to a variety of jobs. Using your mouse and your wits, you’ll monitor a city map where hazard notifications periodically pop up with a timer, alerting you to various jobs the SDN needs to handle efficiently. Each hero under your command has a stat matrix, similar to that seen in Pokémon. You’ll receive a verbal description as a job appears, with your own task being to match your best hero, or in some cases heroes, based on their stats and personalities. You'll be told very soon after whether you’ve passed or failed, with success earning you experience points that lead to a permanent stat boost for each hero. Failure, on the other hand, can lead to your heroes getting hurt or, worse, being taken out of commission for the shift. Managing their individual skill sets as multiple clocks tick down in front of you is a surprisingly stressful task that compelled me to lock in.

On top of stat boosts, the Z-team can also earn special skills that impact how efficiently you operate. The superstar-turned-superhero Prism can use her powers of duplication to extend the timer on jobs, carving out precious moments to find a resolution. Elsewhere, Invisigal can utilize her lone wolf status to increase her speed if sent solo. All these moving parts compound over time and meld together well, creating a satisfying feedback loop that complements the complexity of the surrounding story without overwhelming you.

Aspects like team morale, along with how you impact poignant story beats, shape how effectively the Z-Team will perform, too. During one shift early in the series, the heroes are fighting against one another, hoping to avoid being cut from the team. This argumentative overtone bled into the dispatching minigame, with each member acting on their own accord rather than on my explicit orders. While I was frustrated by this at first, hoping to overcome the challenge with my wits, these moments of disobedience did well to integrate the interactive segments into the overarching story, with AdHoc effectively conveying Robert's irritability by ensuring you feel it firsthand. It’s one thing to write an emotive character for me to play as, it’s another to actually make me want to quit a job I don’t really have in the exact way they do.

A secondary hacking minigame is also part of your day-to-day activities, as Robert flexes the only superpower he has left: his mind. Here, you’ll roll a 3D object through a cybernetic maze as the clock ticks down, using directional inputs to forge a path towards the end goal. On top of the clock, you’ll also need to evade undulating anti-virus orbs and transfer power sources between light blocks to unlock new paths. It can be overwhelming at times as the difficulty scales over the course of Dispatch’s eight episodes, and muscling through these puzzles sticks out as some of the least compelling moments in a game that is otherwise full of them, which is a shame.

A steady mix of dark humor and sincere interactions kept me on my toes.

Still, despite all the roadblocks I faced at the hands of the Z-Team, I found myself defending them at every point, like a parent going to bat for their misbehaving children. The concept of ethically murky superhumans has been explored across film and TV before, but Dispatch often subverts expectations through a steady mix of dark humor and sincere interactions that kept me on my toes.

For example, while celebrating a win at one point, Robert and his team visit a villain bar, but the Thing-like Golem is forced to sit outside due to their humongous size. At this point, I’d taken quite a dislike to them and their attitude, and yet watching them slumped on the gutter with their earbuds in made them appear more human than rock monster. Just like that, a switch had flipped inside my head, and I was putty in the palm of AdHoc’s hands.

What makes Dispatch’s redemption story so effective is how it portrays its villains as emotionally complicated souls who may have lost their way rather than one-dimensional brutes. This empathetic lens makes it enticing to peel back the layers of the group, no matter how horrible they’re being or how petulant they seem. That’s not to say every character is worth forgiving, but instead, if you’re willing to make a risky dialogue choice, you may be rewarded with precious lore that could sway how you react in future situations, or what kind of ending you will receive.

All this drama is delivered through incredible vocal performances that bring Dispatch’s most profound moments to life with finesse, from the main cast of heroes to the background characters as well. Laura Bailey’s Invisigal masterfully dances between bratty and sincere, often encouraging me to break the rules with her flirty, if not threatening, style. Erin Yvette, on the other hand, subtly switches between Blonde Blazers' heroic prose and dorky banter with sharp precision. Notably, Aaron Paul’s Robert is more than just Hollywood stunt casting – he’s a standout here, delivering a nuanced performance as a man struggling to hold onto his optimism while reconciling with who he is outside of his giant mech suit.
