J.D. Tuccille: Trump is losing Americans on domestic use of the National Guard

Since taking office, U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly called out the National Guard to enforce law and order in American cities. Generally, he does so under the color of protecting federal facilities and enabling Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to pursue undocumented immigrants in the face of sometimes violent opposition, though he also invokes the supposedly “lawless” nature of Democrat-run jurisdictions (which are, to be clear, not well-run).
