iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro design leaks are too strange to ignore

iPhone 17 season is heating up with two especially interesting design variants: iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro. Yes, there will be a plain iPhone 17, but it doesn’t sound like Apple will be very bold with its design this year.

Advanced Data Protection – how it makes your iCloud data more secure [Video]

By default, iCloud data is secure while in transit. This data is stored in an encrypted format, while the encryption keys are housed in Apple data centers. 15 particularly sensitive data types, like passwords, Health data, and Journal data, use end-to-end encryption as standard. This sensitive data is encrypted with keys derived from your devices and device passcode, which are only accessible by the end user, and thus this data remains secure even in the case of a data breach in the cloud.

Advanced Data Protection, which is opt-in, provides end-to-end encryption for 10 additional iCloud data categories like Photos, Notes, and Reminders, meaning that Apple no longer possesses the keys to decrypt these categories as well.

It’s been couple of years since Advanced Data Protection rolled out. Are you using it? If not, should you consider using it? In this full tutorial and video walkthrough, I discuss what Advanced Data Protection is, how to enable it, and best practices for protecting your precious data. Be sure to subscribe to 9to5Mac on YouTube for more in-depth video walkthroughs.

Apple’s reported plans for a larger iMac are missing something important

The latest report on Apple’s plans for a larger iMac suggest that the company may still be missing something.

Apple did something almost unprecedented back in 2023 when it specifically confirmed there was no new 27-inch iMac on the way, but it did leave the door open for a larger iMac – perhaps something with a 32-inch screen. But a report from Mark Gurman yesterday threw something of a spanner in the works …

Is Apple working on a larger iMac?

With the Mac transition to Apple Silicon, Apple replaced its 21.5-inch and 27-inch models with one singular 24-inch iMac. Many had assumed that there’d eventually be a larger , perhaps a 30 or 32-inch model, maybe even an iMac Pro. However, we’re yet to see that come to fruition.

BenQ MA270U Review: Pairs nicely with the new Mac mini without breaking the bank

For me, one of the biggest issues with making the switch from a MacBook to a was the display aspect of it. MacBooks all have fairly great displays, especially on the MacBook Pro. However, finding a good display that pairs nicely with a Mac desktop always feels like a little bit of a challenge.

You either have to go with Apple’s expensive options, or compromise significantly on the experience with a third party. Some common compromises include poor brightness, a lack of USB-C, or a lack of macOS integration. While the BenQ MA270U certainly isn’t a replacement, it performs excellently in all of the qualities that matter to me.
