Marathon art director leaves Bungie

Recently, we learned that Sony and Bungie had resolved a plagiarism dispute over Marathon with an artist. Coincidentally, the game's original art director has now left the company.

Joseph Cross, who had a long career at Bungie spanning work across Destiny and Marathon, has left the company. Most recently, Cross had served as the art director on Marathon. As spotted by The Game Post, Cross has updated their LinkedIn profile to confirm that they are no longer working at Bungie.

Marathon Bungie

Kotaku spoke with Cross after the news began spreading and learned that they left Bungie of their own accord, so there was no firing. Cross is leaving Bungie just after the company solidified the release plan for Marathon, which will now be launching in March 2026, with a $40 price tag. As plans for the final game have been locked in, the lack of art director during these final months of development should have no impact on the release.

Marathon was originally supposed to release this year but had to be delayed while the team generated new assets to avoid plagiarism issues. With this extra time, Bungie was also able to address some crucial feedback from the game's closed alpha test, adding more PvE events into the maps and adding features like proximity voice chat for better in-game communication.

KitGuru Says: Are you looking forward to Marathon? I'm still hoping for an open beta early next year so I can give it a try myself.

DLSS arrives in several new titles this week alongside new Nvidia graphics driver

Nvidia has announced the next wave of titles receiving DLSS updates. Games like Ashes of Creation, Splitgate and AION 2 and more are due to support Nvidia's upscaling technology, alongside other RTX features.

ARK: Survival Ascended – Lost Colony, the first major canonical expansion for the remastered survival game, now launches with DLSS 4 and NVIDIA Reflex, giving players smoother performance as they confront the demons of Arat Prime. Ashes of Creation, Intrepid Studios’ ambitious massively multiplayer game, entered Early Access last week with day-one support for DLSS 4 and Reflex.

SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded, a fast-paced arena shooter blending classic mechanics with portal-based combat, also integrates DLSS 4 to maximise frame rates. SEGA’s Yakuza Kiwami 2 has been updated with DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation, enhancing image quality and doubling performance for PC players.

AION2 will add DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation in a December 24th update, building on its existing support for DLSS Super Resolution and Reflex. Dying Light: The Beast, a survival horror set in Castor Woods, now features ray-traced lighting, reflections, and shadows alongside DLSS 4 and Reflex. Finally, Lost Ark has expanded its Korean client with DLSS Super Resolution and DLAA, giving players the choice between higher frame rates or improved image quality.

At The Game Awards, trailers for Phantom Blade Zero, Resident Evil Requiem, and PRAGMATA confirmed that RTX technologies will continue to feature prominently in upcoming releases. NVIDIA has also issued a new Game Ready Driver, so if you have a GeForce graphics card, be sure to update to the latest driver for optimisations for all of the games noted here, as well as bug fixes and other improvements.

G.Skill issues warning on rising RAM prices due to AI demand

In recent weeks, the prices of memory kits have surged to record heights, effectively ruining any plans consumers may have had for upgrading their machines in the near future. One of the most popular memory makers, G.Skill, has now offered a statement, acknowledging recent price hikes.

Here is G.Skill's statement in full:

“DRAM prices are experiencing significant industry-wide volatility, due to severe global supply constraints and shortages, driven by unprecedented high demand from the AI industry. As a result, G.SKILL procurement and sourcing costs have substantially increased. G.SKILL pricing reflect industry-wide component cost increases from IC suppliers and is subject to change without notice based on market conditions. Purchasers should be mindful of the pricing before purchasing.”

The warning confirms reports that AI companies are behind the shortage, as they are buying up the vast majority of supply on the market. Recently, Micron, one of the biggest memory suppliers in the world, killed off its consumer-facing brand, Crucial, in order to focus all of its efforts on serving enterprise customers. Recent reports indicate that SK Hynix, another one of the world's leading memory suppliers, is expecting shortages to last until at least 2028.

This is likely to have a major impact on the PC market in the coming year, impacting desktops, laptops, and other memory-equipped devices like smartphones and yes, graphics cards too.

KitGuru Says: PC enthusiasts have been through this before during the crypto-mining boom, which made sensibly-priced graphics cards impossible to come by for a long time. Now, rather than crypto-farms, we are contending with massive enterprises all looking to build the most powerful AI systems possible.

Tencent delists Light of Motiram as Sony Horizon lawsuit settled

For months, Sony has been pushing ahead with its lawsuit against Tencent, claiming the company's game, Light of Motiram, infringes on its Horizon Zero Dawn IP. Now, the lawsuit has been settled, avoiding the need for a trial, and Light of Motiram has been removed from stores.

As spotted by The Game Post, new court documents reveal that Tencent and Sony have reached a settlement, the terms of which are confidential. However, we can clearly see that the game has disappeared from platforms like the Epic Games Store, indicating that delisting the game was indeed part of the agreement.

As the dispute has been settled, the lawsuit will now be dismissed. Crucially, it will be dismissed with prejudice, meaning it can't be re-filed in court again at a later date, putting the issue to rest for good.

Light of Motiram was intended to be a large-scale survival-crafting game with mechanical beasts and cooperative play. However, much of its world, characters and assets looked like they would have belonged right at home in the Horizon Zero Dawn or Forbidden West games. One of the core reasons Sony wanted the game taken down was the fact that it has its own multiplayer titles on the way set in the Horizon universe, including a mobile and PC MMO from NCSoft. It has also been reported that Guerrilla Games' next major release will be a multiplayer spin-off for PlayStation.

KitGuru Says: Do you think Sony was in the right here, or did you think Light of Motiram looked different enough from Horizon to now raise alarm bells?

Terminator Survivors is pivoting to a single-player game after delay

Terminator Survivors was initially announced with a 2025 release window, but here we are in the final weeks of the year and the game is still nowhere to be found. Today, Nacon officially confirmed that the game has in fact been delayed, but beyond that, it is also going through some major changes behind-the-scenes.

Terminator Survivors was initially pitched as a co-op multiplayer shooter. However, after months of internal testing, the team behind it has decided to go back and reimagine the game as a single-player title.

In an update post published this week, the game's creative director, Marco Ponte, said: “After months of internal testing, discussions with players and fans of the license, we came to the conclusion that to give you an authentic Terminator experience with the best possible shooting and exploration gameplay, we would have to put aside the cooperative multiplayer.”

“We know this may come as a disappointment, but we believe it is the right creative direction for an uncompromising vision of the world after Judgment Day. We’ve also had to overhaul our release plans, instead of launching in early access, we want your first steps into the wasteland to be a complete and polished experience.”

As a result of all of this, Terminator Survivors will not be coming out in 2025 like originally planned. There is no new release date yet, but fans can sign-up to be part of future playtests, which will take place closer to the game's new, currently unknown release window.

KitGuru Says: It is rare to see an announced multiplayer game go through a pivot like this. Would you be happier with a single-player Terminator shooter, or would you have preferred the original multiplayer version?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was the best-selling game in the US last month

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was once again the bestselling game in the US during its launch month, despite strong competition from the likes of Battlefield 6 and Arc Raiders,

Mat Piscatella, a videogame industry analyst for Circana, has shared the top 20 best-selling games in the US for November 2025. The list is topped by Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, although EA's new hit shooter was not far behind, taking the number 2 spot.

Here is the full top 10:

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
  2. Battlefield 6
  3. NBA 2K26
  4. Madden NFL 26
  5. EA Sports FC 26
  6. Pokemon Legends Z-A
  7. Ghost of Yotei
  8. EA Sports College Football 26
  9. Minecraft
  10. Kirby Air Riders

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 managed to beat out all of this year's major sports games as well, despite many of them being discounted for Black Friday. New releases from Nintendo, like Kirby Air Riders and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment both battled for the #10 spot, but ultimately, Kirby won out and Hyrule Warriors dropped to #11.

Other notable games found throughout the #11 to #20 slots include The Outer Worlds 2 at #12, Sonic Racing: Cross Worlds at #13, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 at #15, Red Dead Redemption 2 at #16, followed closely by GTA V at #17. Borderlands 4, and Forza Horizon 5 both also managed to remain in the top 20.

KitGuru Says: Black Ops 7 has sold well, but there must have been something in the numbers to spook Activision, or they wouldn't have recently announced plans to stop back-to-back years for Black Ops and Modern Warfare.

Todd Howard also wishes The Elder Scrolls 6 had come out faster

The Elder Scrolls 6 is a bit of a touchy subject for Bethesda. The game was announced far too early, back in 2018 and while fans knew that Starfield was the priority at the time, fans have not stopped asking about it. Todd Howard made a rare comment on the state of the game this week, saying that he too wished that things had moved faster.

Internally, Bethesda had reportedly planned to ship Starfield before 2022, but delays creeped in. Ultimately, after joining Microsoft, the game was announced for late 2022, only for another major delay to take place, pushing the game back to late 2023. Due to the lingering work required on Starfield, production for The Elder Scrolls 6 also had to be pushed back.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is now finally in full production and could release as early as 2027, alongside a planned next-generation Xbox console. Speaking with Game Informer, Todd Howard commented on the drawn-out timeline for the game, saying:

“The majority of the studio’s on VI, but I’ll say this: We always overlap. So, we’re very used to overlapping development. And we have long pre-productions on things so that we feel good about them. And it’s a process. We all wish it went a little bit faster – or a lot faster – but it’s a process that we want to get right.”

The last Elder Scrolls game to release was 2011's Skyrim. We still don't know what part of Tamriel the new game will be set in, or what gameplay changes may come along with it. Based on the 2018 teaser, fans reckon that The Elder Scrolls 6 may be set in Hammerfell, the home of the Redguards, or potentially High Rock, the homeland of the Bretons. Some also speculate that the game could span both regions, as they are more compact compared to Skyrim, while also being neighbouring provinces.

KitGuru Says: If The Elder Scrolls 6 is indeed targeting a 2027 launch date, then we may start getting some real news about the game starting next year.

Cyble says data breaches grew to record heights in 2025, AI could make it much worse

Nearly 15,000 data breaches and leaks were reported worldwide in 2025, according to Cyble’s Global Cybersecurity Report. Corporations and government agencies were frequent targets, with experts warning that 2026 will bring even more attacks as hackers adopt AI-driven tools.

Qantas was among the hardest hit, with data from 5 million customers exposed and later sold on the dark web. Other companies, including Oracle, Volvo, and SK Telecom, faced leaks or disruptions. Researchers also uncovered the largest breach in history: 16 billion passwords linked to Apple, Facebook, Google, and Telegram. Government institutions were not spared, with the US Congressional Budget Office hacked.

Individuals were targeted as well. In South Korea, more than 120,000 cameras were compromised to capture footage of unsuspecting users, which could then be used in blackmail efforts. Konstantin Levinzon, CEO of Planet VPN, said AI amplified many of these incidents. “Even though AI improves our daily lives and strengthens cybersecurity, it is also widely used by hackers,” he noted.

Levinzon outlined three potential threats to watch out for in 2026:

  • Autonomous AI attacks – Agentic AI systems may exploit zero-day flaws without human input.
  • Advanced Deepfakes – Fraudulent video and audio are increasingly used to bypass verification.
  • Wearable device hacks – Smartwatches and other sensors collecting health and location data are becoming prime targets.

“Potential wearable hacks, deepfakes, and autonomous AI systems mean that next year, users will need to take extra steps,” Levinzon said. He recommended two-factor authentication, regular software updates, and VPN use as basic defences.

KitGuru Says: Most major AI-focused corporations have a lot of safety nets in place to avoid their AI systems from ‘going rogue'. It is highly unlikely that criminals seeking to cause harm would have the same level of checks and balances in place.

Deux Ex studio Eidos Montreal is reportedly developing an Alien game

Most Alien fans at this point are looking forward to the long-awaited Alien Isolation 2. However, that isn't the only new Alien game in development. According to reports this week, there is a second mystery survival horror game in the works.

Insider Gaming has learned that a new Alien game is in development. The title was revived recently after initially being planned back in 2020 and will offer a mix of combat, platforming and puzzles. The main character is said to be an engineer named Aubrey, who gets around the ship with a pair of magnetic boots and a grappling hook, essentially making this ‘Shadow of the Tomb Raider' but with Aliens.

The game is also apparently being made by Eidos Montreal, the studio behind Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided. Unfortunately, this likely means we won't be seeing Adam Jensen again anytime soon.

The new Alien game is said to be targeting a 2028 release window, with a budget of over $70 million. The studio will have to hope that the game doesn't end up clashing with Alien isolation 2, which began development in 2024, as that is a more established Alien sub-franchise with a large following.

KitGuru Says: With Alien Isolation 2 already on the way, I'm not sure what to think of this. It sounds like it will be similar in some ways, taking place on a large space station, with a character working their way through different parts of the ship, all the while dodging Xenomorphs.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic director wants the game out before 2030

At The Game Awards on Thursday night, RPG fans received a massive win with the announcement of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. The new game, spearheaded by KOTOR director, Casey Hudson, is a spiritual successor to Knights of the Old Republic. Due to the short cinematic reveal, fans anticipated a lengthy wait for the game, with a release after 2030. Hudson is much more optimistic on the development timeline though.

In a post on social media following the reveal, Hudson tells fans to not worry about the ‘2030' rumours. He says that the game “will be out before then”, although there is no firm release window set for the game yet as it is still in early development.

Hudson has already expressed his excitement for the project, saying that “working on KOTOR was a defining experience” for his career, adding that getting to work on a new Old Republic game is a “dream come true”.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic first came out in 2003, giving players the opportunity to play as their own character, who discovers their connection to the force after meeting Jedi Bastilla Shan, who then serves as one of your companions for the rest of the game. The game was famous for deepening Star Wars lore, particularly where the Jedi and Sith are concerned.

Fate of the Old Republic should follow a similar trend. I'll keep my fingers crossed that we get to revisit Dantooine and Koriban.

KitGuru Says: I would love to be playing this sooner rather than later, but game development is often fraught with unexpected delays and issues. As long as the right kind of scope is maintained, it doesn't necessarily have to take 5+ years to make, but some of that will also depend on Disney and their own ‘requests'.
